The Autoimmune Diet Revolution

In today’s fast-paced world, more people are grappling with the mysterious and often debilitating effects of autoimmune diseases, conditions in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. With over 80 recognised autoimmune disorders, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and multiple sclerosis, a common question arises: Can what we eat truly impact how we heal?

Enter the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) diet, a science-backed, holistic approach that’s gaining traction among nutritionists, functional medicine practitioners, and wellness enthusiasts. Often referred to as the “reset button” for your immune system, the AIP diet focuses on eliminating potential food triggers, healing the gut, and nourishing the body with anti-inflammatory, nutrientdense whole foods.

Autoimmune conditions are complex and influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, stress, environmental toxins, and importantly diet. Many experts believe that a leaky gut (intestinal permeability) allows undigested food particles and toxins to enter the bloodstream, which may trigger an immune response. The AIP diet is designed to help seal the gut lining and calm inflammation, giving the immune system a much-needed break.

The AIP diet begins with an elimination phase, where foods known to irritate the gut or provoke immune reactions are removed. This includes gluten, grains, dairy, legumes, soy, nightshades (like tomatoes, potatoes, peppers), eggs, nuts, seeds, processed foods, and added sugars.

Instead, the focus shifts to deeply nourishing options such as:

• Grass-fed meats and wild-caught fish

• Organ meats (a powerhouse of nutrients)

• Bone broth, rich in collagen and gut-healing compounds

• Fermented vegetables for a healthy microbiome

• Leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, and non-nightshade roots

• Healthy fats like avocado and coconut oil

After a period of strict elimination (typically 30 to 90 days), foods are gradually reintroduced one at a time to observe any reactions. This empowers individuals to identify personal triggers and tailor a long-term lifestyle that supports their body’s unique needs.

While food is a key pillar, the autoimmune diet is also about lifestyle. Managing stress, prioritising sleep, engaging in gentle movement, and cultivating supportive relationships are equally important. This integrated approach recognises that the body and mind are intricately connected.

Many people following the AIP diet report reduced pain, improved digestion, clearer skin, better energy levels, and even remission of symptoms. Though not a cure, it’s a powerful tool for managing chronic illness and reclaiming quality of life.

Ultimately, the autoimmune diet is a return to eating and living in a way that honours the body. It encourages slowing down, tuning in, and making choices rooted in self-care and nourishment.

In a world full of quick fixes, the AIP offers something more meaningful, a path to healing through mindful nourishment and self-discovery. For those living with autoimmune disease, it’s more than a diet. It’s a journey of empowerment, hope, and resilience.

*Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new dietary protocol, especially when managing a chronic condition.

Self-Care Is How You Take Your Power Back

In a fast-paced world that constantly pulls us in a hundred directions, the idea of self-care is often misunderstood. It's been marketed as pampering or seen as a luxury reserved for those with spare time and money. But in truth, self-care is far more than scented candles or an occasional spa day, it’s a radical, powerful act of self-respect and reclamation.

At its heart, self-care is about agency. It’s the conscious decision to prioritise your well-being, to tend to your emotional, mental, and physical needs in a world that often encourages you to ignore them. In doing so, you take your power back, from burnout, from toxic systems, from draining relationships, and from the belief that your value lies solely in your productivity.

Beyond the bubble bath

The commercial version of self-care, bubble baths, vacations, face masks, has its place. These moments can be relaxing and necessary. But real self-care goes much deeper. It's about the sometimes unglamorous choices that prioritise long-term health over short-term comfort. It’s waking up early to ground yourself, saying no when it’s hard, choosing therapy over avoidance, or simply honouring your need for sleep.

These acts may seem small, but they’re deeply significant. They signal to yourself that your needs matter. They require intention, consistency, and courage. True self-care is a form of self-leadership it’s how we show up for ourselves, especially when life is messy.

One of the most transformative expressions of self-care is setting boundaries. It’s not about pushing others away, it’s about protecting your energy, your peace, and your sense of self. Boundaries teach others how to treat you, but more importantly, they teach you how to honour yourself.

Saying no is powerful. So is stepping back from people, commitments, or habits that leave you feeling drained. These choices are not selfish, they’re necessary. When you stop spending energy on what doesn’t serve you, you create space for what does. That’s not just healing, it’s empowerment.

Healing from within

Self-care also invites us to go inward. Many of us carry limiting beliefs: that we must earn rest, that we’re not good enough, that taking up space is wrong. These messages become embedded over time, shaping how we treat ourselves.

Through practices like journaling, mindfulness, therapy, or spiritual reflection, we begin to unlearn those stories. We replace criticism with compassion. We stop abandoning ourselves and start showing up with care. The process isn’t quick or easy, but it is liberating. Healing becomes a reclaiming of all the parts of us that were silenced, neglected, or forgotten. Taking your power back isn’t a single act, it’s a way of life. It’s returning to yourself again and again, even when you’ve drifted away. There will be moments when you forget, when you overextend, when old habits resurface. That’s okay. Self-care is not about perfection, it’s about presence. It’s about the willingness to listen inward and act with intention.

It’s important to remember: self-care is not one-sizefits-all. What soothes or empowers you may not work for someone else. The key is awareness, knowing what truly restores your energy and what depletes it.

In a society that equates busyness with success, self-care is a quiet rebellion. It reminds us that we are more than what we produce. We are worthy of care simply because we exist.

Self-care is how we come home to ourselves. It’s how we reconnect with our inner wisdom, our boundaries, and our joy. It’s how we move from surviving to thriving. And in doing so, we don’t just change our own lives, we create a ripple effect that empowers others to do the same.

Because when you care for yourself, you’re not just finding comfort. You’re finding your power. And from that place of grounded strength, anything becomes possible.

How Does Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Work for Anxiety?

In today’s fast-paced world, anxiety has become one of the most common mental health challenges that affects millions of people globally. While medication and traditional therapy have long been go-to solutions, many individuals are now turning to alternative approaches that are practical, forward-thinking, and empowering. One such approach is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH), a modern, evidence-based method that blends neuroscience with positive psychology to create lasting change.

But how exactly does it work, especially when dealing with anxiety?

Unlike traditional talk therapies that often delve deeply into past trauma or childhood experiences, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy keeps its attention firmly on the present and the future. The core belief is simple yet powerful: you don’t need to relive your past to create a better future. SFH helps clients identify their strengths, resources, and positive actions they can take to move forward. This is particularly effective for anxiety, which thrives on uncertainty and negative forecasting.

By focusing on solutions rather than problems, SFH interrupts the cycle of worry and overthinking, gently redirecting the mind toward progress and calm.

The Science Behind the Practice

SFH is grounded in neuroscience and an understanding of how the brain responds to stress. When we experience anxiety, our primitive brain (often referred to as the ‘fight or flight’ part) perceives threats everywhere, even when they’re not real. This can lead to a constant state of high alert, causing symptoms such as racing thoughts, rapid heartbeat, insomnia, panic and irritability.

Through a combination of structured talking therapy and hypnosis, SFH helps shift the client from this reactive state to the more logical and rational part of the brain, the prefrontal cortex. This part of the brain is solution-focused by nature, enabling clearer thinking, better decision-making, and emotional regulation.

The Role of Hypnosis

Hypnosis is often misunderstood, but in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, it’s simply a state of focused attention and deep relaxation. It’s similar

to that dreamy state you might feel just before falling asleep, calm, peaceful, and receptive.

In this relaxed state, the subconscious mind is more open to positive suggestions. The therapist guides the client using carefully crafted language and imagery to reinforce solutions discussed during the talking part of the session. This helps “embed” new ways of thinking and reduces the brain’s stress response.

Crucially, clients remain in control throughout the process. They don’t go to sleep, and they can’t be made to do anything against their will. Instead, hypnosis is a collaborative, empowering tool that facilitates change from the inside out.

One of the reasons SFH is so effective for anxiety is its emphasis on what’s going right rather than what’s wrong. Each session typically begins by asking the client to reflect on positive things that have happened since their last appointment. This seemingly simple question shifts the brain’s focus from threat-based thinking to resourceful thinking.

Over time, this repetition helps rewire neural pathways, a concept known as neuroplasticity. Clients often report feeling more confident, more in control, and better able to cope with life’s challenges, even after just a few sessions.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is not a one-sizefits-all cure, but for many people living with anxiety, it provides a powerful, compassionate, and practical path forward. By combining the latest insights from brain science with tried-and-tested therapeutic techniques, SFH offers more than symptom relief , it promotes real transformation.

In a world that’s always looking backward or rushing ahead, SFH invites us to pause, breathe, and take constructive steps toward a calmer, more fulfilling future.

Are you ready to take control of your anxiety and move forward with confidence? Book your individual Solution Focused Hypnotherapy session today - your calmer future starts here.

Picota Cherry Basque Cheesecake

"Meet your new dessert obsession, it’s sweet, sultry, and impossible to resist."

This twist on a Spanish classic combines the traditional Basque cheesecake with a buttery biscuit base, while celebrating the natural sweetness of Picota cherries.

Ingredients

150g digestive biscuits, crushed

80g unsalted butter, melted

For the filling:

600g cream cheese, room temperature

250g caster sugar

6 large eggs

500ml double cream

1 tsp vanilla essence

25g plain flour

400g Picota cherries, pitted

Method

In a saucepan, combine 150g sugar and the pitted Picota cherries. Heat gently, stirring occasionally, until the Picota cherries release their juices and begin to soften (about 6 minutes). Remove half of the cherries and half of the syrup that has formed and keep refrigerated for serving later.

Line a 23cm springform pan with two overlapping sheets of greaseproof paper, ensuring they extend at least 5cm above the pan. Crush the digestive biscuits finely and mix with the melted butter until well combined. Press the mixture firmly into the base of the mould. Pick the remaining Picotas from the syrup and place over the biscuit base. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.

Preheat your oven to 200°C fan. Beat the cream cheese, double cream, the remaining sugar, eggs, vanilla essence, flour and the remaining syrup until smooth and creamy. Pour the batter over the chilled biscuit and cherries base. Bake for 45 minutes until the top is deeply browned but the centre still has a significant wobble. It needs to look as if it is completely undercooked inside. Remove it from the oven and let it cool at room temperature for at least 5 hours before serving.

Cut a slice and serve with a spoonful of cherries and their syrup.

Tip: reduce the remaining syrup in a pan on a low heat for a few minutes to thicken it for serving.

The Whip Crackin’ Calamity Jane is Rolling In

Gosh almighty! Grab a posse because the whip crackin' musical comedy classic Calamity Jane is a rollin' on over the plains to Milton Keynes. Based on the much-loved Doris Day movie, this fancy new production stars the multi-award-winning West End actress and singer Carrie Hope Fletcher (Cinderella, Les Misérables).

When Carrie was first approached about starring in the new UK tour of Calamity Jane, there was one person who wanted her to take on the role more than anyone else: her mum.

For there was something about the gun-slinging, whip-cracking frontierswoman first immortalised on screen in 1953 by Doris Day that Fletcher's mum knew her daughter was born to play.

So when the offer came through, the 32-year-old performer found she just couldn't say no.

"My mum had always said I would be a good Calamity Jane and through the entirety of my adult career she has always said she would love to see my playing the part, it's her dream role for me. So I looked into it and listened to the songs and watched the movie starring Doris Day and fell in love with it. Doris is such an icon. Though I did have to prepare my mum not to get her hopes up as things do fall through and you never know what might happen."

Fortunately for both Fletcher and her mum, things did go according to plan, and she is now touring the country in the iconic role,

"I am relatively new to the whole world of Calamity Jane, but it’s a dream role in terms of her as a character," Fletcher tells us. "She is romantic lead, gets a great love story, has an amazing female friendship with Katie Brown and gets all the cracking, belty numbers. She ticks all of those boxes and it’s so wonderful she’s

not just an ingenue or the soppy romantic or just a comedy character, she is all of it. Parts like that are really rare and she has been great fun to get to know."

Fletcher says that the Calamity Jane is a "gun-slinging, whipcracking woman prone to making a few blunders and mistakes".

The show is also about femininity, she adds, particularly around her relationship with Wild Bill Hickok, portrayed on stage in this production by Vinny Coyle, but made famous on screen by Howard Keel.

"There are conversations between her and Wild Bill where he says 'Why can’t you be more feminine?" Fletcher explains. "She goes through a Cinderella story finding it, but ultimately ends up going back to who she is comfortable as and being loved and accepted for it. And it's all hidden within this funny, farcical story."

With the sure-fire classic songs The Deadwood Stage (Whip-CrackAway), The Black Hills of Dakota, Just Blew in from the Windy City, and the Oscar-winning Secret Love, Calamity Jane bursts onto the stage with high-spirited energy, toe-tapping tunes, and heartfelt charm. This beloved musical captures the wild frontier with humour, romance, and unforgettable melodies that will have audiences singing along and cheering for the fearless, sharpshooting heroine of the Wild West.

What are you waiting for, you wild coyotes? Whip-crack-away and book now!

Calamity Jane comes to Milton Keynes Theatre from Tuesday 29 July - Sat 2 August 2025.

A Private Haven of Excellence in Tuscany

Tuscany’s private haven of excellence unveils a new era of authentic luxury with bespoke interiors, curated art and enhanced outdoor living.

Nestled in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, Villa Ardore has reintroduces itself with a renewed vision of understated elegance. Seamlessly blending its 16thcentury roots with elevated modern features, the villa has emerged from a meticulous restoration. Led in collaboration with the owners by renowned architect Massimo Pierattelli and his team, the villa has honoured the soul of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse while reimagining its spaces for contemporary living.

With care and creativity at heart, classic proportions and old-world charm remain intact, enriched by five-star features such as floor heating, integrated air conditioning, high-speed meshed Wi-Fi, discreetly installed smart TVS hidden behind elegant-mirrored surfaces, and ambient LED systems and soft accent lights enhancing every mood.

The rooms at Villa Ardore are masterpieces of design, where elegance and comfort come together to create an unforgettable sanctuary. Each of the eight luxurious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms has been curated to offer a perfect blend of classic Tuscan charm and modern sophistication, designed to meet comforts in each season of the year. With meticulous attention to detail, the bespoke amenities provide the highest level of luxury in a family home, such as floor heating, hidden ACs in each room, and mirrored TVs in common areas.

Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and rolling hills, allowing the natural beauty of the Chianti region to become an integral part of their stay. Every suite features tasteful furnishings, exquisite linens, and thoughtfully designed spaces with outstanding pieces of modern art - all sourced from artists based within 10 miles of the villa, overall inspiring a feeling of “home”.

At the core of the villa’s transformation are owners Stephen Lewis and Christian Scali, whose personal passion and hands-on approach have shaped the property into a true home-away-from-home. Every space is a reflection of their vision - from custom-designed furniture

and handpicked textiles to original artworks curated in collaboration with La Bottega Gallery, featuring both Tuscan and international artists, adding soul and depth to every space. Each room tells a story through carefully sourced antiques, bespoke fabrics, and one-of-a-kind details gathered from artisan workshops, antique markets, and local studios.

A key highlight of the villa’s evolution is its exclusive art and design collection. Textiles, including bedcovers, headboards, and table linens are entirely bespoke and thoughtfully tailored to reflect the individuality of each room.

Villa Ardore has further expanded its outdoor spaces, embracing the Italian art of al fresco living. New features include expansive daybeds, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, and a shaded pergola in front of the Roman spa, ideal for open-air massages, yoga sessions, and private spa rituals with views over the villa’s private vineyard.

An additional professional kitchen, located in the restored barn serves as a hub for private events, cooking classes, and chef-led dinners, with direct access to a covered loggia designed for outdoor entertaining. Meanwhile, the main kitchen is a chef’s dream, boasting premium appliances, warming drawers, and a refrigerated wine cellar with world-class wines just next to the bar in the living room.

Every element of Villa Ardore’s redesign reflects a commitment to authenticity, comfort, and craftsmanship. From handcarved pietra serena sinks to artisan-crafted Dorelan beds, the villa invites guests into a world where history is honoured, beauty is intentional, and every detail is deeply personal.

Though Villa Ardore welcomes guests yearround, the start of the summer season marks a fresh chapter for 2025, inviting travellers not just to stay, but to experience Tuscany through the lens of art, design, and heartfelt hospitality.

A Sweeping Transformation at

Fairmont Monte Carlo

As it celebrates 50 years on the Riviera, the Fairmont Monte Carlo has unveiled a sweeping transformation that touches every corner of the landmark waterfront property, from guest rooms and suites to dining destinations and event spaces. The full-property redesign brings a fresh aesthetic whilst remaining rooted in Monegasque charm. Combining this with the hotel’s timeless hospitality and a strengthened commitment to sustainability, Fairmont Monte Carlo is embarking on its next chapter.

The full-hotel renovation coincides with the hotel’s golden anniversary this year and introduces a new identity that blends Monaco’s coastal allure with contemporary design. Guest rooms and suites have been completely redesigned in soft creams and ocean blue tones, with refined furnishings, elegant textiles and private terraces overlooking the sea, garden, or the famous Grand Prix Hairpin bend. New Resort Suites tailored for families will debut this year, offering kitchens, expansive living areas and panoramic terraces for even more immersive stays.

The transformation extends to the hotel’s dining scene. At the heart of this is Amù Monte Carlo, named after the Monégasque word for “love”, the restaurant concept celebrates the romance and rhythm of Riviera life. Set against a backdrop of the deep blue sea, Amù delivers a Mediterranean-inspired menu on the rooftop

of the hotel. Just above, Amù by the Pool offers casual dining and cocktails poolside with views across both Monaco and the Mediterranean.

Nobu Monte Carlo, a flagship for the global brand, has also been redesigned. The updated interiors blend Japanese craftsmanship with local inspiration - oak wood, soft lighting, and flowing lines set the stage for a tranquil dining experience with uninterrupted sea views.

The serene ambiance of the renovated Lobby Lounge Restaurant & Bar, located in the heart of the Fairmont Monte Carlo, is available to guests 24/7. Serving spectacular views of the Mediterranean and classic international dishes with a contemporary twist alongside an intriguing cocktail menu.

Originally opened in 1975 by Princess Grace of Monaco, the Fairmont Monte Carlo has long been an emblem of luxury hospitality in Monaco. With its complete transformation timed to the 50th anniversary, the hotel is embracing the future while staying true to its Riviera roots.

Latin Quarter Literary Escapes in the

If literary escapes and mindful moments are on your mind Hôtel Dame Des Arts in Paris has just introduced a unique wellness initiative that blends literature with lifestyle in the heart of the Latin Quarter, perfect for bookworms and book lovers!

Inspired by the literary heritage of Paris’ Latin Quarter, the Hôtel Dame Des Arts ‘Reading Hour’ is a new wellness initiative that reflects the growing momentum behind reading as a wellness activity.

The Reading Hour, takes place between 4–6pm, inviting guests to unwind with a book in hand, either their own or one borrowed from the hotel’s beautifully curated Biblio. Inspired by the creative pulse of the Left Bank and the rising trend of reading as wellness, this initiative is the first chapter of a broader literary programme that honours Paris' storied intellectual heritage while responding to modern guests’ desire for stillness, introspection, and inspiration.

The many benefits of reading range from making people feel happy, relaxed and connected to others, assisting with the development of empathy and strengthening brain function. A study by Mindlab International at the University of Sussex found that reading for only six minutes reduces stress levels by 68%, making it more effective than listening to music or taking a walk. Reading has even been connected to longevity in a study by Yale University. As people proactively look to find pockets of quietude and prioritise ‘me time’, reading provides a form of concentrated escapism, however, 30% of us find it hard to actually finish a book. More and more people are seeking space to read on mini-breaks and solo trips, as shown by the burgeoning popularity of dedicated reading retreats.

Housed in a former school on the Left Bank’s Rue Danton, the Hôtel Dame Des Arts provides an ideal refuge right in the heart of Paris that lives and breathes Rive Gauche spirit. A design hotel with a playful twist, the rooftop terrace, lobby armchairs, cosy rooms and even the sauna lend themselves to relaxing with a book (the latter being one for a paperback rather than an ereader!). It’s the courtyard garden and restaurant Pimpan, however, that are the venue for The Reading Hour. A new take on happy hour, The Reading Hour is a daily literary gathering between 4pm and 6pm that welcomes readers to come with a book or borrow or exchange one from the hotel’s own Biblio.

Producing a book unlocks a special drinks menu of signature beverages curated especially for the The Reading Hour including:

• The Fitzgerald Spritz - elderflower liqueur, prosecco, sparkling water

• Thé Le Jardin de Proust - rooibos, apple, spices

• Thé Green Ginsberg - green tea, lemongrass, ginger

• Café Le Camus - Espresso macchiato / Noisette

• Hot Chocolate by Hugo

The hotel’s Biblio is an evolving library featuring cult works born in Saint-Germain-des-Prés alongside novels, contemporary fiction, art magazines and forgotten plays, with books in both English and French.

This in-house activity will be soon be complemented by a Literary Map of the neighbourhood that highlights locations depicted in literature, from classics like Victor Hugo’s Hunchback of Notre Dame and stories about local legends such as Serge Gainsbourg, all the way to the Emily in Paris books inspired by the Netflix series which was filmed just a few minute’s walk away. The map also flags cafes where the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway would have spent time soaking up the atmosphere, as well as independent bookshops like Shakespeare & Company.

General Manager, Matthieu Bernard tells us, “Our neighbourhood is alive with creativity and the free-spirited space that we’ve created at Hôtel Dame Des Arts celebrates this in all its forms - from our art collection and bespoke furnishings to the menu at Pimpan. Our reading-based programme combines many elements that we’re seeing guests really valuewhether it’s solo travellers coming to a safe, walkable neighbourhood, those celebrating Il Dolce Farniente and finding time to actually switch off and let their minds wander, or people just seeking some downtime after a busy day exploring Paris. The Reading Hour provides a space to do this without feeling you have to move on; our library sets the context for those who are curious and invites them to participate in a poetic exchange by passing on a book that has moved them; and our map will help them discover their own story in the Latin Quarter’s warren of passageways and courtyards.’
