LETTER With approximately seven weeks to go until the big day, we feel it’s quite acceptable to mention that word – Christmas and fill this issue with all that glitters and more.

I especially love this time of year, it’s lovely to reflect on Christmas past and the traditions you had as a child that you have now brought into adulthood and your own family. I for one get terribly nostalgic with my childhood memories - I swear to this day I heard Santa’s bells on Christmas Eve.

The countdown’s well and truly on to when you open day 1 of your advent calendar, gone are the days of just a picture or a bit of chocolate, now calendars are full of beauty products, alcohol and food – You literally are spoilt for choice, turn to page 10 for a roundup of our favourite beauty advents - what one will you choose? I think there’s something just as magical about giving a gift as there is receiving one. The look on the person’s face as they unwrap it is a joy to watch, but I hear you ask “I don’t know what to buy? “Look no further than our Christmas Gift Guide, (page 25) this year it’s back bigger and better than before and has gifts everyone will love.

Take Control of Your Thoughts with

Solution Focused We all have that little voice inside our head, the one that comments on everything we do. Sometimes it cheers us on, and sometimes it whispers words of doubt or fear. Next time you’re approaching a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable or challenged, listen to your self-talk. Notice how much of it is positive. Are the negative thoughts louder? Do you even try to drown them out, or do they take control and influence the outcome before it’s even begun? The truth is, your thoughts have immense power, they shape your emotions, behaviours, and ultimately, your reality. But the good news is, you can retrain your brain with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, a modern, evidence-based approach that combines positive psychology, neuroscience, and clinical hypnotherapy to help people create meaningful, lasting change. Rather than delving deeply into the past, it focuses on the present and the future, what’s working well in your life, and what you’d like to achieve. The process helps calm the mind, allowing you to move from a state of survival (where negative, anxious thoughts dominate) to a state of growth, creativity, and confidence. Through gentle hypnosis and structured conversations, you begin to rewire your brain to think in more balanced, solutionoriented ways.

The Science Behind Your Thoughts Your brain is a powerful pattern-making machine. Every thought you repeat strengthens a neural pathway - like carving a deeper groove in a record. If your inner dialogue is filled with “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” or “This always goes wrong,” your brain learns to accept these as truths.

In contrast, positive and constructive thoughts create entirely different neural patterns. Through neuroplasticity, your brain can form new connections and override unhelpful habits of thinking. SFH helps accelerate this process by guiding you into a relaxed, focused state where your subconscious mind becomes more receptive to positive change. Imagine facing a challenging situation — a difficult meeting, a new opportunity, or a social event that makes you nervous. Your self-talk can either sabotage or support you.

• Negative self-talk: “I’ll mess this up.” “Everyone will judge me.” • Positive self-talk: “I’ve handled things like this before.” “I’m capable of doing well.”

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you shift from self-criticism to self-encouragement. By focusing on small, achievable goals and reinforcing what is going right, you begin to notice real change in how you think, feel, and respond.

During a session, you’re guided into a state of deep relaxation, similar to daydreaming. In this state, your conscious mind quiets down, and your subconscious becomes more open to suggestion. You remain fully aware and in control, but you’re able to access the part of your mind that stores habits, beliefs, and emotional responses. This process helps: • Reduce anxiety and overthinking • Improve confidence and motivation • Encourage better sleep and relaxation • Foster a more optimistic, resilient mindset

Over time, you learn to become the observer of your thoughts, to recognise when your inner critic is taking over and consciously redirect your focus. From Self-Sabotage to Self-Support Think of your brain like a garden. If you keep watering the weeds (negative thoughts), they’ll grow. But if you start nurturing the flowers, gratitude, hope, confidence, the landscape changes entirely.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy doesn’t erase negative thoughts, but it helps you choose which ones to listen to. It gives you the tools to pause, reflect, and respond rather than react. When you realise you can change your thoughts, you unlock the ability to change your life. So, next time that uncomfortable situation arises, tune in to your self-talk. Are you your biggest critic or your strongest ally?

If you’re ready to quiet the noise, rewrite the script, and train your mind to focus on what truly serves you, get in touch with jane@wavesofchangehypnotherapy.com. www.wavesofchangehypnotherapy.com

How Seasonal Time Changes Influence Our Wellbeing Once the clocks go back, many people notice a subtle change in how they feel, perhaps a dip in energy, a shift in mood, or more difficulty getting up in the morning. While gaining an extra hour of rest sounds positive, this seasonal transition can have a deeper impact on our health and wellbeing than we might expect.

support such as Solution Focused Hypnotherapy or Counselling.

When Time Changes, So Does the Body Our bodies are guided by an internal timekeeper called the circadian rhythm. This 24-hour cycle influences sleep, hormone release, digestion, and even mood. When the clocks change, our external schedule suddenly shifts, while our internal rhythm takes a little longer to catch up.

Luxury Living in Tune with the Seasons In luxury wellness, alignment is everything. True vitality isn’t about resisting seasonal change — it’s about flowing with it. The recent clock change offers a timely invitation to slow down, reset routines, and bring intention to the darker months ahead.

Understanding why this happens and how to adapt can help us move through autumn and winter with greater balance, energy, and emotional resilience.

Even a one-hour adjustment can cause: • Difficulty falling or staying asleep • Grogginess upon waking • Short-term dips in mood or focus • Cravings for sugar or caffeine • Disrupted meal and exercise patterns

In the days following the clock change, darker mornings and earlier sunsets can also affect levels of serotonin and melatonin, key hormones that regulate mood and rest. For some, especially those sensitive to seasonal changes, this can contribute to feelings of fatigue or low motivation. This time of year doesn’t have to mean tiredness or low mood. With some simple adjustments, it’s possible to stay balanced and maintain good energy throughout the darker months.

Light is the strongest signal for resetting your body clock. Try to get at least 15–30 minutes of natural daylight within an hour of waking, even on cloudy days. It helps regulate hormones, improve alertness, and stabilise mood. If that’s not possible, a daylight or SAD lamp can provide similar benefits indoors. Keep a Consistent Sleep Routine The body thrives on routine. Try to go to bed and wake up at similar times each day, including weekends. This consistency helps your circadian system adapt more easily to the new daylight pattern and supports deeper, more restorative sleep.

Create a Calming Evening Routine Shorter days often mean more time indoors, so make evenings restorative rather than overstimulating. Reduce screen time an hour before bed, dim harsh lighting, and wind down with relaxing activities such as reading, stretching, or a warm bath. Small environmental changes. such as blackout curtains and a cool, quiet bedroom can make a big difference to sleep quality Nourish Your Body As daylight decreases, many people experience lower vitamin D levels and changes in appetite. Aim for balanced meals that include oily fish, leafy greens, and slow-release carbohydrates. Staying hydrated, moderating caffeine intake, and eating at regular times can also help stabilise energy and mood. Take Care of Mental Health The reduction in daylight can influence how we feel emotionally. If you notice a drop in motivation, energy, or mood, small lifestyle habits can make a big difference: regular exercise, social connection, mindfulness, and spending time outdoors.

For those who find the transition particularly challenging, it can be helpful to talk to a healthcare professional or explore therapeutic

By paying attention to light exposure, sleep, nutrition, and self-care, we can adapt more smoothly to seasonal time changes and maintain steady energy and mood through the months ahead.

Rather than viewing the darker season as something to endure, it can become an opportunity to rest, recharge, and establish healthier rhythms that support your wellbeing all year round.

Here’s how to transition with elegance, protecting both body and mind:

1. Prioritise Light Exposure Morning light is nature’s way of resetting your body clock. Step outside within an hour of waking — even on cloudy days — to anchor your circadian rhythm and boost serotonin. Luxury tip: Invest in a designer daylight lamp or smart lighting system that mimics dawn to help regulate mood and energy naturally. 2. Reclaim Your Evenings As darkness falls earlier, resist the urge to overwork or scroll. Instead, transform evenings into a sanctuary of calm — think candlelight, herbal teas, or gentle yoga. Luxury tip: Create a sensory evening ritual with aromatic oils, weighted blankets, or a curated playlist to signal the body it’s time to rest.

3. Maintain a Consistent Sleep Routine The key to resilience is rhythm. Keep bedtimes and wake times consistent — even on weekends — to reduce fatigue and improve restorative sleep quality. Luxury tip: Upgrade your sleep environment — high-thread-count linens, temperature-regulating fabrics, and blackout curtains can elevate rest to an art form.

4. Nourish for Energy and Balance Darker days can lead to lower vitamin D and energy dips. Prioritise balanced meals rich in omega-3s, leafy greens, and slow-release carbohydrates. Luxury tip: Consider professional wellness testing or bespoke supplements to tailor your nutrition to your body’s seasonal needs. 5. Protect Mental Wellbeing The clock change can subtly influence mood — especially for those sensitive to reduced daylight. Incorporate mindfulness, gratitude journaling, or meditation into your routine. Luxury tip: Book a weekend wellness retreat or hypnotherapy session to realign mindset and maintain emotional clarity through the season.

A Moment to Realign The annual clock change is more than an adjustment of time — it’s an invitation to re-evaluate pace, priorities, and presence. For those who live consciously and value refined wellbeing, embracing seasonal rhythm is a form of self-care in its most elegant expression. By adjusting sleep, light, and lifestyle with intention, we transform a simple shift in time into a sophisticated act of balance — proof that true luxury lies not in resisting change, but in mastering it.

Miso-roasted Salmon with Bean Mash This dish makes a fab, festive dinner party main or stunning party platter. Served with soya bean mash and a cucumber watercress salad, it's fresh, vibrant and healthy too. Ingredients 3 tbsp miso paste 2 tsp clear honey 2 tbsp reduced-salt soy sauce 5cm thumb-sized piece fresh ginger, finely grated 800g boneless salmon side 600g frozen soya beans, cooked to pack instructions 2 spring onions, thinly sliced 1 lemon, zested and juiced 2 tsp toasted sesame oil 1 whole cucumber, cut into 2mm slices 1 tsp black sesame seeds ½ tsp caster sugar 80g pack watercress Cooked basmati, to serve (optional)

Method Preheat oven to gas 7, 220°C, fan 200°C. Whisk together the miso, honey, 1 tbsp soy sauce and two-thirds of the ginger. Lay the fish, skin-side down, on a roasting tray and pat dry with kitchen paper. Smooth half the miso dressing down the length of the fish. Roast for 25-30 mins until opaque and flaking easily. Cool for 10 mins, then flake into chunks. Meanwhile, blend the soya beans in a food processor for 1-2 mins to give a rough textured purée. Scrape into a bowl and stir through the spring onions, lemon zest and juice, remaining ginger and 1 tsp sesame oil. Put the cucumber in a bowl with the remaining 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp sesame oil, the sesame seeds and caster sugar; toss well to coat. Spoon the bean mash onto a platter and top with the flaked fish, cucumber and watercress. Finish with the remaining miso dressing and serve with cooked basmati rice if serving as a main course. Method Put the chicken mince in a bowl with the onion, garlic, egg, half the basil and half the courgette. Season, mix well, then roll into 12 equal-sized meatballs. It can help to chill the meatballs in the fridge for 15 mins, so that they firm up and hold their shape better when frying. Heat the oil in a lidded frying pan over a medium heat and fry the meatballs for 8-10 mins, turning carefully, until golden all over. Transfer to a plate. Add the remaining courgette to the pan and cook for 1-2 mins, stirring, then pour in the chopped tomatoes. Bring to a gentle simmer, return the meatballs to the pan, then partially cover and simmer over a low heat for 15-20 mins until cooked through. Meanwhile, tip both packs of couscous into a bowl and cover with 340ml boiling water. Cover and set aside for 5 mins, then fluff up with a fork. Serve with the meatballs, with the remaining basil scattered over. Recipe by: www.tesco.com

Steamed Gingerbread and Orange Upside-Down Pudding A warm steamed pudding is just what your dessert table needs. Packed with orange and gingerbread spices and drizzled with custard, you'll love this surprising flavour twist.

Ingredients 175g baking spread, plus extra for greasing 3½ oranges, 1½ cut into slices, 2 zested 65g golden syrup 100g soft light brown sugar 3 eggs 175g self-raising flour 1 tbsp ground ginger ½ tsp ground nutmeg ¼ tsp ground cinnamon 4 balls stem ginger (about 90g), finely chopped, 2 tbsp syrup 50ml milk 10g crystallised ginger 1-2 tbsp golden rum (optional)

Method Grease a 1.2ltr pudding bowl. Peel one of the zested oranges and slice into 5mm rounds. Pour the golden syrup into the bowl and top with the orange slices to cover the bottom of the basin. Whisk together the baking spread and sugar until pale and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, adding 1 tbsp flour with each and mixing well. Beat in most of the orange zest and the spices, then fold in the remaining flour and stir in the stem ginger and milk. Spoon the mixture over the orange slices, then grease a sheet of non-stick baking paper and place greased-side down over the pudding. Cover with foil, then secure by tying string under the rim of the bowl. Make a string handle to make it easier to remove the cooked pudding later, then trim off any excess paper and foil. Put the bowl on a trivet or upturned saucer in a lidded pan. Pour boiling water around the pudding until it comes ⅔ of the way up the sides. Cover, then steam over a gentle simmer for 2½ hrs, topping up the water to avoid it boiling dry. Leave the pudding to cool for 5 mins, then run a knife around the edge. Carefully turn out the sponge onto a serving plate. Peel and segment the remaining orange, then use to top the pudding and drizzle with 2 tbsp stem ginger syrup. Top with the crystalised ginger and remaining orange zest. Recipe from: www.tesco.com

Embrace the Season at

Heckfield Place As the air turns crisp and the UK countryside glows in shades of amber and gold, there’s no better time to book a staycation immersed in the quiet beauty of Hampshire. Tucked within 438 acres of secluded woodland and rolling parkland, Heckfield Place offers an idyllic escape that captures the very essence of autumn. From the moment you arrive, nature’s transformation is on full display — golden oaks, rustling beeches and fiery maples frame serene lakes and walled gardens. At the heart of Heckfield’s philosophy lies a deep respect for the land. The on-site Home Farm and Market Garden come alive at this time of year, yielding a vibrant harvest of autumn produce — earthy root vegetables, rich squashes, and crisp cavolo nero. Chef Skye Gyngell weaves this abundance into the menus at the hotel’s acclaimed restaurants, Hearth and Marle, where comforting, nourishing dishes honour the season’s bounty. Autumn at Heckfield Place isn’t just a feast for the senses — it’s an invitation to reconnect with the rhythms of nature. Guests can take part in a thoughtfully curated programme of activities, from nature photography and fishing on the lake to peaceful woodland walks under canopies of colour.

For those seeking renewal, Movement in Nature at The Bothy by Wildsmith offers grounding outdoor experiences designed to re-energise the body and calm the mind. As temperatures dip, brave souls can experience the invigorating benefits of cold water immersion, guided by expert practitioners. Curated by the talented team at Rors Kitchen, the menu offers a creative take on the traditional Burns Night supper, blending interactive elements with elevated Scottish flavours, all cooked over flame for an unforgettable and theatrical evening of food, whisky, and warm Highland hospitality.

Lagen Island’s New Wellness Sanctuary Set against the dramatic limestone cliffs and turquoise waters of Bacuit Bay, Lagen Island, part of the El Nido Resorts portfolio, is a secluded resort in the heart of the Philippines. Located amidst the limestone cliffs and still waters of Palawan, the island is a sanctuary for travellers seeking connection with nature and quiet luxury. The island’s thoughtful transformation, set to debut in January 2026, will redefine barefoot luxury, with wellness taking centre stage with the unveiling of the Lagen Wellness Center: Palawan’s largest and most holistic wellness destination.

The centre’s design reflects the island’s new vision: culturally grounded and deeply immersive. Soothing interiors inspired by the warmth of a nest - or “nido” in Spanish - open onto a Spa Garden and Reflection Pond. Guests can move between healing pools, hot and cold plunge pools, steam rooms, and saunas, or retreat to one of three private treatment rooms. Bespoke programmes allow for combinations of wellness, fitness, island activities, and mindful dining tailored to each guest’s needs. In partnership with ESPA, a global authority in natural, resultsdriven skincare and spa experiences the sanctuary incorporates the wisdom of Filipino traditions with modern innovation. Treatments range from Babaylan-inspired healing rituals and buoyant water therapies to facials designed to restore radiance and vitality. Each experience is carefully curated to reconnect guests with their natural rhythms and to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

ESPA rituals such as the Jade Serenity Experience or Renewal and Balance Treatment combine natural ingredients, jade crystals, therapeutic massage, and holistic techniques for a transformative effect.

Named after the Filipino word for “care,” the Malasakit Massage is more than just a traditional treatment - it’s an opportunity to give back. This deeply relaxing massage can be tailored to focus on the areas your body needs most, offering a restorative escape while supporting healthcare initiatives in the local community. Proceeds from this treatment directly benefit our foundation, allowing each session to extend healing beyond the spa.

Beyond treatments, wellness at Lagen Island extends to movement and fitness. The state-of-the-art fitness centre offers Technogym machines, free weights, and personal training. The wellness sanctuary is framed by a careful consideration of the environment: fewer rooms allow for an expanded beach and uninterrupted sightlines to the surrounding cliffs, while native landscaping and a reflection pond harmonise with the natural surroundings. The spa itself is designed to work around existing trees, preserving the island’s ecological beauty. At Lagen Island, wellness is not just a service - it is a philosophy. Guests are invited to slow down, recalibrate, and reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world. It is a sanctuary where Filipino tradition, modern science, and the rhythms of nature converge to offer a deeply restorative experience.

Lagen Island isn’t just a destination; it’s an experience, an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and rediscover the joy of travel with purpose. For more information or to book, visit www.elnidoresorts.com/lagen-island

Saudi Arabia Set along the white sand shores of Shura Island on Saudi Arabia’s western coastline, EDITION reveals its second gem in the country with the opening of The Red Sea EDITION, following its category-defining debut in Jeddah last year. Synonymous with redefining the codes of traditional luxury, the newest EDITION unlocks the wonders of The Red Sea as the premiere hotel to launch on the pristine island and embodies the country’s visionary roadmap.

The Red Sea EDITION is nestled along a kilometer of private beachfront with sweeping, uninterpreted views across The Red Sea’s turquoise waters and the lush greenery of Shura Links, Saudi Arabia’s first 18-hole island golf course designed by world-renowned golf architect Brian Curley. Once complete, Shura Island will be home to a collection of world-class resorts, marinas, entertainment, dining and leisure facilities, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 to position the country as a global hub for luxury tourism and regenerative development. This extraordinary location is part of an archipelago of 90 untouched islands, fringed by the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef and home to flourishing coral gardens, crystalline lagoons, and thriving marine life.

Representing an exceptional collaboration between Marriott International, EDITION Hotels and Red Sea Global (RSG), the pioneering developer committed to shaping the future of travel through a regenerative approach balancing ecological protection and enhancement with world-class guest experiences.

Upon arrival at the Red Sea International Airport, guests are whisked away on a scenic desert drive leading to Saudi Arabia’s longest internal bridge that links the mainland to Shura Island. At the end of a palm-lined driveway, the hotel unfolds as a series of low stone and wooden pavilions perched on white sand beachfront. The property is deeply rooted in the EDITION brand’s strong sense of refined simplicity and style, showcasing 240 elegantly designed guest rooms, including 53 one and two bedroom suites, outdoor pools, a spa and gym, as well as lounges, sea- and pool-front dining, and signature restaurants. The arrival pavilion is sculpted from warm rammed earth and natural oak designed to reflect the rugged majesty of canyon walls found in Saudi’s deserts. The edges are softened by delicate textiles, lush greenery, and a striking ceramic chandelier that hangs like a fragment of stone, suspended effortlessly in mid-air. From the public areas to the private retreats, the design philosophy is unified by the fluidity between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. Designed with an intimate scale, the rooms and suites embrace a quiet sophistication reflecting the softness and simplicity of the shoreline. Weekend Starts Here.... Exit Strategy by Jack Reacher 'Jack Reacher will make three stops today. Not all of them were planned for.' First stop – a Baltimore coffee shop. A seat in the corner, facing the door. Black coffee, two refills, no messing about. A minor interruption from two of the customers, but nothing he can’t deal with swiftly. As he leaves, a young guy brushes against him in the doorway. Instinctively Reacher checks the pocket holding his cash and passport. There's no problem. Nothing is missing. Second stop – a store to buy a coat. Nothing fancy. Something he can ditch when he heads to warmer climes. Large enough to fit a man the size of a bank vault. As he pulls out his cash, he finds something new in his pocket. A handwritten note. A desperate plea for help. Third stop – wherever this bend in the road takes him. Impressed by the guy's technique and intrigued by the message, Reacher makes it his mission to find out more.
