Alliance Franรงaise de Christchurch 913 Colombo Street 03 365 8370 enquiries@afchristchurch.org.nz

LE MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE Chers amis, This is November so get ready to enjoy a wide selection of cultural and educational activities at the Alliance. You could start the month at our Ciné-club with the movie « The name of love ». You are sure to have a good time and a good laugh. On the 6th of November you could join us at the Permanence and hear part 2 of Your President’s trip to France earlier this year and of my future projects. If you enjoy French music, you will be pleased to hear that the musician, singer, song writer Franck Monnet will be back in Christchurch as a guest of the Alliance Française for a concert at the” Pallet Pavilion”. If you are French or Francophile you must be waiting with excitement for the new wine of the season “The Beaujolais Nouveau”! This year for a change we will organise a BYO picnic in Sumner at the end of the month. Finally but not least, do come and make your voice heard at the AGM on the 24th of November after le Petit Matin Croissants. On the first two Saturdays of the month, two DELF sessions (adults and Juniors) will take place at the Alliance. The DELF Diploma is recognised worldwide and is organised by the Alliance Française network. After the success of the DELF scolaire with St Margaret’s College and Burnside High school we are hoping that next year more students from the Canterbury region and the South Island will enrol for this diploma. Congratulations to the students who all successfully completed the DELF scolaire 2013. Mid November is also a festive month for the Canterbury region with the races and Show Day. You may also be interested in visiting French Navy frigate the “Prairial” in Lyttelton harbour. The frigate will be in port from the 13th to the 15th of November. They have kindly offered to do a working bee at the Alliance and help the committee paint and tidy up the garage. This is my last “Mot de la Présidente” since I will be stepping down as President of the Alliance Française de Christchurch after the AGM at the end of the month. I wish you all a very successful end of term at the Alliance, a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. I also would like to thank very sincerely the committee and the various AF teachers and members who have supported me over the last few years. I have enjoyed it all so much. AU REVOIR. Martine Marshall Durieux Présidente

CINÉ - CLUB

«THE NAMES OF LOVE» De Michel Leclerc Avec Jacques Gamblin et Sara Forestier.

Bahia Benmahmoud, a free-spirited young woman, has a particular way of seeing political engagement, as she doesn’t hesitate to sleep with those who don’t agree with her to convert them to her cause - which is a lot of people, as all right-leaning people are concerned. Generally, it works pretty well. Until the day she meets Arthur Martin, a discreet forty-something who doesn’t like taking risks. She imagines that with a name like that, he’s got to be slightly fascist. But names are deceitful and appearances deceiving...

French Day at AF for Prebbleton School On Friday, October 25th, l’Alliance Française de Christchurch welcomed students from Prebbleton school for a special French day. The AF team (Morgane, Justine, Mélusine and Nans) organised all kinds of French activities for the 38 kids, including Crêpes making workshop, French games and French songs... The kids have been learning French with their teacher for a year, and surprised the AF team with their good knowledge of the French language.

« No Square » was founded in July 1994 with Matthieu Durmarque on Saxophone, Matthieu Roffé on Piano, André Hahne on Bass and Alexandre Ambroziak on Drums. The musicians have created individually and collectively the original pieces found in their eight albums : « The Fly »(1996), « Green Apples (1997), « Empreintes » (1999), « Live à la Case à Chocs » (2000), « Cest où Doregon » (2002) , « Double Album Studio & Live » (2005), « le Pendu » (2008) and « Les Lois de l’éphèmère» (2012). « Les Lois de l’Ephémère » (The rules of the ephemeral) is No Square’s 8th release and, as in the past, it’s explosive, original and vibrant. The ephemeral is present mainly in contemporary art: contrary to the general rule of eternity, this art form is transient. The rules of the ephemeral to which all man is bound implies constant vigilance, the ability to adapt, intelligence, great imagination and spontaneity in order to live in a world of constant change where nothing is ever really acquired. This is, in fact, the definition of improvisation. The new compositions on this album were influenced by the recent live tours of the quartet in South America, in Africa and in Europe. The random encounters motivated the creativity of the moment and served as the foundations for the new compositions. Find out more about No Square: http://www.no-square.com/
