L’année s’écoulent tellement vite ! Pensez-vous comme moi à tout ce qui vous reste à faire dans le peu de temps qui reste ? Très souvent, avoir un but ou une date limite permet de se focaliser. Si vous cherchez un objectif pour votre apprentissage de la langue française, pensez à la possibilité de passer les examens du DELF. Le DELF est un diplôme international qui certifie votre niveau de français. Il y a des examens pour tous les niveaux. Ils ont lieu chaque année en mai et en novembre. Vous pouvez vous renseigner sur notre site-web: http://af-christchurch. co.nz/classes/exams/delf-dalf/) ou contacter l’équipe de l’AF Chch. La fin de l’année signifie aussi que l’Assemblé Générale de l’AF Chch arrive. Elle se déroulera le dimanche 30 novembre après le Petit Matin Croissant – à partir de 10h30. J’encourage autant de membres que possible d’y assister – c’est une opportunité de vous renseigner sur les performances de l’AF Chch pendant l’année et d’avoir votre mot à dire sur la direction de l’AF Chch. Le comité de l’AF Chch sera élu à l’AGM et nous cherchons de nouveaux membres et volontaires. Être membre du comité est très enrichissant – si ça vous intéresse, veuillez me contacter. Nous avons organisé pleins d’activités culturelles pour ce trimestre et il me semble qu’il y a un thème prédominant: le vin ! En plus de l’Apéro du Vendredi le vendredi 19 décembre a l’AF Chch, il y aura aussi une dégustation de vin et fromages chez notre partenaire Decant le mardi 28 octobre. Et comme d’habitude nous allons fêter le Beaujolais Nouveau. Le 23 novembre. Vous trouverez plus de détails sur tous ces événements dans cette Gazette. L’AF Chch engage régulièrement les profs de français langue étrangère qui font un stage avant de finir leurs études. Notre dernière stagiaire fraichement arrivée de Paris est Clélia . Elle restera jusqu’à la fin du trimestre 1 2015. Nous sommes aussi très contents d’avoir de nouveau dans l’équipe Nans Drivière qui était stagiaire à l’AF Chch en 2013. Vous verrez ce trimestre d’autres nouveaux profs. Je sais que vous leur réserverez un accueil chaleureux.
LE MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE Justine Lee, President The year is passing quickly – are you like me and wondering what can you cram into the rest of it? Often a goal or a deadline can really focus you. If you feel like setting a goal for your French language learning, then you should consider sitting a DELF exam. The DELF is an internationally recognised certification, which shows your level of achievement in French – there are exams for beginners through to highly proficient learners. DELF exams are held in May and November each year. (http://af-christchurch. co.nz/classes/exams/delf-dalf/) or by contacting the AF Chch office. The end of the year also brings the AF Chch AGM. This will be held on Sunday 30th November after the Petit Matin Croissant, starting at 10:30am. We aim to make it a short meeting so I encourage as many members as possible to attend – this is your formal opportunity to learn about the performance of AF Chch over the past year and to have a say in its future direction. The AF Chch Committee will be elected at the AGM and we are looking for new committee members. Being a committee member is a rewarding role – if you are interested, please contact me. There is now an official AF Chch President’s email address – President@AFChristchurch.org.nz. Feel free to use it if you wish to contact me directly. Enquiries@AFChristchurch.org.nz is still the address to use for your regular contact with AF Chch. We have plenty of cultural activities planned for this term – and there does seem to a “wine theme” predominating! As well as the Apéro du Vendredi on Friday 19th December at AF Chch, there is also a Wine and Cheese tasting evening at our partner Decant on Tuesday 28th October. And once again we will organise an event to celebrate the release of this season’s Beaujolais Nouveau on November 23rd. Details of all these events can be found later in this Gazette. As many of you know, AF Chch regularly engages French language teachers who are completing an internship as the final part of their studies. Our latest arrival is Clélia who is from Paris and will be with us until the end of Term 1 2015. We are also very pleased to welcome back to the team Nans Drivière who was a stagiaire with us in 2013. There may be some other new faces this term as we work to develop our teaching capability – I know you will make them welcome.

LE TERRORISTE NOIR DE TIERNO MONÉNEMBO Addi Bâ est un jeune Guinéen né vers 1916, adopté en France à l’âge de 13 ans, et qui, devenu soldat pendant la Seconde Guerre, est affecté dans le 12e régiment des tirailleurs sénégalais. Capturé après la bataille de la Meuse, Addi s’évade, erre dans les forêts, avant d’être recueilli par le maire du village de Romaincourt. Élégant et mystérieux, à la fois austère et charmeur, il y fera sensation, mais ce n’est qu’un début : en 1942, il entre en contact avec la Résistance et crée le premier maquis des Vosges. Les Allemands le surnommeront « le terroriste noir ». Qui a trahi Addi Bâ ? Une de ses nombreuses amantes ? Un collabo professionnel ? Ou tout simplement la rivalité opposant les Tergoresse et les Rapenne, deux familles aux haines séculaires ? Parce qu’il était noir, ce combattant de la France libre n’a reçu la médaille de la Résistance qu’en 2003, soit 60 ans après son exécution.
ON NE BOIT PAS LES RATS KANGOUROUS D’ESTELLE NOLLET Un bout du monde désolé que borne une décharge. Ceux qui ont échoué là semblent avoir abdiqué tout espoir de futur. Ivres de vide, ils vivent dans un éternel présent qu’ils dissolvent chaque soir jusque tard dans la nuit au bar de Dan, où les échanges sont réduits à l’indifférence, au mépris, parfois à la violence. Car de ce pays personne ne peut sortir. La plupart y ont renoncé, mais certains ont gravi montagnes et collines, d’autres transforment les objets de la décharge en objets d’art. Un brin d’abondance sort de la corne de l’épicerie de M. Den, l’autre lieu qui rappelle la société du « dehors ». Celle que ne connaissent pas Willie, 25 ans, et son copain Dig Doug qui sont nés là. Celle que Willie va vouloir se faire raconter par chacun à qui il va rendre par là-même un passé. Le miroir de l’innocence qu’il leur tend pourra-t-il sauver leur avenir ?

« On se fait la bise ? »
Si, pour les Français, se faire la bise c’est simple comme bonjour, cette habitude est moins évidente pour les Kiwis. Malheureusement pour nos amis néozélandais, il n’existe pas de règle imparable qui régisse le quand et le comment de ce rituel. Bon, on vous partage quand même une Carte de France des Bises. Savoir combien de bises on fait dans la région que vous visiterez l’été prochain, ça peut être utile. Mais attention, on vous le répète, il y a toujours des exceptions à la règle ! When and how to do “la bise”? Easy as pie for us Frenchies! But Kiwis can quite never find the sense in this weird habit of ours. Unfortunately, there is no tip we can share to help you manage your way through French greetings. Still, here is a map of France where you can find the number of bises you have to perform, depending on where you are staying. However, always keep in mind that there are only exceptions to the rule…

PORTRAIT: UN FRENCHIE A CHRISTCHURCH
Rencontre avec Flore-Anne, fraîchement débarquée de Paris pour venir donner des cours de français à l’Alliance Française de Christchurch. Est-ce que tu peux nous parler de ton parcours et de ce qui t’a amenée ici ? J’ai toujours éprouvé un intérêt particulier pour la langue anglaise et j’adore voyager dans les pays anglo-saxons. J’ai donc étudié l’anglais à la fac et ai passé un an en Irlande. A la fin de mes trois années de licence, j’ai réalisé que ce qui m’intéressais le plus dans mes voyages, c’était de découvrir la culture de l’autre. C’est pour cette même raison que j’ai décidé de devenir professeur de français : pour faire découvrir ma propre culture. Maintenant, pourquoi la Nouvelle-Zélande ? Parce que depuis que j’ai vu le premier volet de la trilogie Le Seigneur des Anneaux à l’âge de 11 ans, je me suis fait la promesse de venir visiter la Comté un jour. Tu n’es pas ici depuis longtemps, qu’est-ce que tu attends de ton voyage en Nouvelle-Zélande ? J’attends simplement que tous les clichés que j’ai entendus sur le pays et ses habitants se vérifient. J’attends de découvrir des paysages sauvages à couper le souffle. J’attends de croiser des Hobbits. J’attends de faire l’expérience de la gentillesse et la chaleur néo-zélandaise (et pour l’instant je ne suis pas déçue !). Qu’est-ce qui te manque le plus de ta vie en France ? Ce qui me manque le plus, ce sont les petites choses que je ne peux pas trouver ici : un verre dans mon bar préféré, le canapé de ma meilleure amie ou un coucher de soleil sur les jardins du Luxembourg. Mais je suis sûre de pouvoir trouver de nouveaux petits plaisir ici Pour finir, tu aurais un film à recommander aux kiwis qui vont lire cette gazette ? Le premier qui me vient à l’esprit c’est Neuf mois ferme, que j’ai vu récemment. C’est un film un peu loufoque dans lequel jouent deux pointures du cinéma français : Sandrine Kiberlain et Albert Dupontel. C’est l’histoire d’une juge très sérieuse et un peu coincée qui se rend compte, 6 mois après une soirée de Nouvel An arrosée, qu’elle est enceinte. Elle va découvrir que le père est en fait un criminel anthropophage ! Et je vous promets que c’est drôle !
PORTRAIT: A FRENCHIE IN CHRISTCHURCH
Meet Flore-Anne. She has just arrived from Paris to teach French at the Alliance Française de Christchurch. Can you tell us more about yourself and what brought you here? I have always had a particular interest in the English language and I love travelling to English-speaking countries : I majored in English at University and I spent a year in Ireland. At the end of my 3 year degree, I understood that what I like the most about travelling is to learn about someone’s culture and habits. The same thought made me follow the path to being a French teacher, so I could tell people about my own culture.Now, why did I pick New-Zealand ? Because, at the age of 11, when I saw the first movie of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I made myself the promise I would visit the Shire someday. You have been here for just a few days, what do you expect from your stay in New-Zealand? I just hope that every cliché I heard about this country will turn out true. I hope I will get to see wild and breathtaking landscapes. I hope I will meet Hobbits. I hope I will experience the kindness and warmth of the Kiwis (and I have not been disappointed so far!) What do you miss the most about your life in France? What I miss the most are the little things that I cannot find here : a drink in my favourite bar, my best friend’s couch or the view of the sun setting down on the Jardins du Luxembourg. But I am convinced I can find new small pleasures here! One last thing : is there a movie you would recommend to the Kiwis who will read this? The first one I can think of is Neuf mois ferme, that I have watched very recently. This movie is a little crazy and very fun, and it stars two big names in French cinema : Sandrine Kiberlain and Albert Dupontel. Sandrine Kiberlain plays the role of a very serious and hung-up judge who finds out she is pregnant with the baby of a cannibal criminal she met 6 months earlier, on a drunken New Year’s Eve night. And I guarantee you will laugh!

French for travellers classes run Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 12:30 am on 5 consecutive weeks.
