LE MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE Ce dernier mois il s’est passé pleins de choses à l’AF Christchurch. Les grands moments en juin étaient l’annuel Concours Cuisine des écoles – 14 équipes d’élèves de français ont cuisiné de délicieux repas du style français; et la Fête de la Musique, où nos participants ont bien apprécié des musiciens et des chanteurs locaux. Le grand événement pour juillet sera la prestation du mime français Laurent Decol qui se passe la semaine prochaine. Christchurch est le point de départ de sa première tournée en Nouvelle-Zélande. L’équipe de l’AF Christchurch a fait beaucoup d’effort pour que ça soit un événement agréable et bien réussi. Mais nous avons besoin de votre soutien, s’il vous plait, venez vous-même et emmenez des amis aussi. Il y aura aussi l’opportunité d’en acheter sur place avant le spectacle – mardi 1er juillet dès 19h00 à Waimairi School. Ma famille a fait tellement de choses pendant ce trimestre. Alors qu’il sera bien de se relaxer pendant ces prochaines vacances scolaires. Mais après quelques jours, il y aura l’habituel « Maman, nous nous ennuyons! ». Si ça vous dit quelque chose, ne vous inquiétez pas! Nous organisons encore une fois notre très populaire “Kids Holiday Programme”, mes enfants l’ont beaucoup aimé la dernière fois et ont hâtent d’y retourner. Proposez-ça à vos enfants, vos petits-enfants, et même aux enfants de vos amis. Ça se déroulera chaque après-midi du 14 au 18 juillet. Évidemment nous n’avons pas oublié les adultes! Pour fêter le 14 juillet, nous avons fait un partenariat avec Rosebank Estate, alors rejoignez-nous le samedi le 12 juillet à partir de 19h00, pour un repas au thème français, avec de la musique française « live ». LE MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE It has been another busy month at AF Christchurch! Highlights in June were the annual schools’ Concours Cuisine – where 14 teams of high school French students served up some delicious French-style meals; and the Fête de la Musique, where a crowd of people gathered to enjoy local musicians play and sing. The big event for July is the performance next week on by French mime artist Laurent Decol. Christchurch is the starting point for his first ever New Zealand tour. The AF Christchurch team has been working hard to make this a successful and enjoyable event. But we need your support –please come yourselves, and bring some friends too. Tickets are only $10 and are available at http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2014/mimedecol-show/christchurch-city . Or there will be door sales on the night - Tuesday July 1st 7pm at Waimairi School. It has been such a busy term for my family. So it will be good to relax during the upcoming school holidays. But after a couple of days, there will be the usual “we’re bored Mum!” If that sounds familiar, never fear! We are once again running our popular kids holiday programme – my kids loved it last holidays, so we’ll be there again this time. Check it out for your own kids or grandkids, or even a friend’s kids. It runs every afternoon from the 14th to 18th July. And of course we have not forgotten the grown-ups! To celebrate Bastille Day this year, we are teaming up with Rosebank Estate – join us on Saturday 12th July from 7pm for a French themed meal, accompanied by live French music. Tickets are limited, so make up a party and book now! L’ECRIVAIN DE LA FAMILLE DE GREGOIRE DELACOURT À sept ans, Edouard écrit son premier poème. Trois rimes pauvres qui vont le porter aux nues et faire de lui l’écrivain de la famille. Mais à neuf, il découvre le sens de « déchéance ». Les mots ne lui viennent plus. Les années passent. Il assiste à la lente décomposition de sa famille et court toujours derrière l’amour que son poème, autrefois, suscita. Il écrit, écrit mais le destin que les autres vous choisissent n’est jamais tout à fait le bon. Edouard n’a pas de talent. Sauf dans la publicité où les mots futiles valent de l’or. Pas pour ce grand roman qu’il s’est juré d’écrire. N’ayant pas su trouver les mots qu’on attendait de lui, Edouard, l’écrivain de la famille, vit dans l’échec et le dégoût de soi. Alors quand la beauté de sa mère se fane, quand son frère-oiseau meurt tragiquement, quand le cœur de sa sœur devient pierre et que son père disparaît dans ses silences, il prend la plume pour écrire l’histoire de ceux qu’il aime. Mais surtout pour en changer la fin. MOT SUR L’AUTEUR Après le succès mondial de La liste de mes envies et de La première chose qu’on regarde, Grégoire Delacourt signe sans doute son roman le plus fort, le plus personnel, sur la violence de nos vies et aussi sur le pardon.

UN OEIL EN FRANCE : UNE NOUVELLE FRANCE A 14 REGIONS C’est la nouvelle qui a fait parler d’elle le mois dernier en France! En effet, le président de la République, François Hollande, souhaite réduire de moitié le nombre de régions en France. Le principe est simple: il existe actuellement 22 régions métropolitaines et le gouvernement veut faire passer ce chiffre à 14. Pour l’heure, le nouveau découpage, dévoilé le 2 juin par François Hollande, n’est pas définitif. Les régions «seront ainsi de taille européenne et capables de bâtir des stratégies territoriales», explique le président de la république. L’objectif déclaré de cette réforme territoriale est de réaliser 10 milliards d’euros d’économies, si l’on en croit le secrétaire d’État à la Réforme territoriale, André Vallini. Le tout devrait être généré sous 5 à 10 ans. Le passage de 22 à 14 régions devrait donc s’effectuer dès 2015 et la fin des départements pour 2020. Mais cette réforme est très loin de faire l’unanimité. Que ce soit au sein de la population ou des parties politiques, on évoque une décision prise sans concertation. Les résistances locales risquent d’être tenaces tant les notions de « région » et d’ «identité » sont forts sur le territoire français. Alors, comment sera la nouvelle France à 14 régions?

UN OEIL EN FRANCE : A NEW FRANCE WITH 14 REGIONS It’s the news that everyone was talking about last month in France! Indeed, the President of the Republic, Francois Hollande, wishes to reduce by half the number of regions in France. The idea is simple : there are currently 22 metropolitan regions and the government wants to reduce that number to 14. For the moment, the new divisions, announced on the 2nd of June, are not yet definitive. Regions «will be european sized and able to establish territorial strategies», explained the President. The objective of this territorial reform is to save 10 billion Euros, according to the State secretary, André Vallini. It should be effective in about 5 to 10 years. The shift from 22 to 14 regions should begin in 2015, and the current counties (départments) would cease to exist by 2020. But this reform does not please everyone. From the general population to the political parties, the talk is of a decision made without any consultation. Local resistance could be tough as the notions of «region» and «identity» are strong in France. So, how will the new France be with 14 regions?

PORTRAIT : UN FRENCHIE A CHRISTCHURCH Ce mois-ci nous vous présentons Antoine Chiaverini, grenoblois d’origine qui est arrivé en Nouvelle Zélande en 2013. Quel est votre métier ici en Nouvelle Zélande? Je travaille à NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric research) en tant que scientifique hydrodynamique. Au sein de mon équipe nous étudions les risques naturels principalement liés à l’eau (inondation, tsunami…) afin de mieux les comprendre et de mieux s’en protéger. C’est un travail vraiment très intéressant. Pourquoi aviez-vous choisi de venir en Nouvelle-Zélande? J’ai réalisé un Master science de la Terre et de l’environnement spécialité gestion des risques hydrologiques et météorologiques à l’université Joseph Fourier de Grenoble, et à la fin de ce master, tous les élèves de la promotion devaient faire un stage de 6 mois dans un institut de recherche. J’ai choisi de venir en Nouvelle Zélande d’abord par rapport à mes études, la Nouvelle Zélande est un terrain parfait pour la recherche en gestion de risque naturel (vous avez pu constater quelques tremblements de terre ou autres inondations assez récemment). Je suis également fan de rugby et comme vous le savez les All Blacks ne sont pas mauvais. Enfin j’ai toujours apprécié les différents paysages de ce pays que l’on peut voir à la télé, sur internet ou dans les magazines. Donc quand j’ai eu l’opportunité de venir faire mon stage ici, j’ai sauté sur l’occasion. Après mon stage j’ai signé un CDD. Votre endroit préféré en Nouvelle Zélande? J’ai adoré plein d’endroits mais je pense que mon préféré reste le Mont Cook. Votre endroit préféré en France? Les calanques de Cassis Un chanteur ou groupe français à faire découvrir aux kiwis? PORTRAIT : A FRENCHIE IN CHRISTCHURCH This month we introduce you to Antoine Chiaverini from Grenoble, who has been in New Zealand since 2013. What is your job here in New Zealand? I am working for NIWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric research) as a hydrodynamics scientist. My team and I are working to better understand waterrelated hazards (such as floods or tsunamis) in order to prevent them. It is a very fascinating job. Why did you choose to come to New Zealand? I studied for a Master’s degree specialising in the management of meteorological and hydrological risks at the University Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, and at the end of my last year of study we all had to do a 6 month internship in a research institute. I chose to come in New Zealand firstly for my studies, indeed the country is an ideal place for the research of natural hazards. (I am sure you noticed some earthquakes or flooding recently). I am also a huge fan of rugby and as you know the All Blacks are not so bad. Finally, I always liked the landscapes that you can see on TV, on the internet or in magazines. So when I got the opportunity to come and do an internship here, I jumped at the chance. After my internship, I got hired at NIWA. What is your favourite place in New Zealand? I love loads of places but I think my favourite is has to be Mount Cook. What is your favourite place in France? The Calanques de Cassis, near Marseille. A French singer or a French band Kiwis should discover? Patrick Sébastien A French movie that you would recommend? I would say ‘La cité de la Peur’ or ‘The Intouchables’. A place where you are dreaming to go? Easter Island Your favourite word or expression in English? «Turn your face to the sun, and the shadows fall behind you».

This 15 hour course is designed for those of you who do not know French and will be travelling in the future in a French speaking country.If you love travelling, you know what a difference some knowledge of the local language can make. A few words or a few phrases here and there can do wonders. It can break the ice in an instant and most people appreciate even the most awkward of attempts. French for travellers classes run Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 12:30 am on 5 consecutive weeks. Fees: $190 (including booklet and membership for 1 term). 2014 French For Travelers Classes Term 2 – Saturday, 31st to Saturday, June 28th. Term 3 – Saturday, July 26th to Saturday, August 23rd.
