Le mot de la présidente Si vous avez remarqué que la Gazette est arrivée plus tôt que prévue dans votre boite mail, bravo! La version complète et en ligne de la Gazette sera désormais envoyée au début de chaque trimestre – afin de vous donner des informations sur nos événements bien en avance. Et pour que vous ne manquiez aucune information, nous vous enverrons des newsletters chaque mois et chaque semaine. Cette année, notre événement culturel majeur était le spectacle du mime français, Laurent Decol. Cela a été un grand succès avec 110 spectateurs. Pendant 90 minutes, M. Decol nous a captivé avec son talent et nous a fait réfléchir autant que rire. Merci à ceux qui sont venu et aussi à ceux qui ont fait de la promotion pour cet événement. Nous espérons pouvoir faire venir d’autres artistes français à Christchurch pour votre plus grand plaisir. Le Trimestre 3 commence le lundi 21 juillet. Toutes les classes sont très prisées, alors contactez l’équipe (enquiries@afchristchurch.org.nz or 3658370) si vous voulez vous inscrire. Notre mensuel Petit Matin Croissant devient de plus en plus populaire – en fait, nous sommes « plein à craquer »! Pour améliorer la situation nous cherchons une solution pour utiliser la terrasse par tous les temps. En plus, dès le mois de juillet, il sera essentiel de réserver des places en avance. Ça nous permet d’avoir assez de croissants pour tout le monde. Pour faire une réservation, envoyer un email ou téléphoner au bureau de l’AF de Christchurch au plus tard avant 17h00 le vendredi qui précède le PMC. C’est toujours plus agréable de rester bien au chaud pendant les soirées d’hiver, alors notez le vendredi 15 août dans votre calendrier et venez au prochain « Apéro du Vendredi » qui aura pour thème « au coin du feu ». Vous pourrez manger des amuse-gueules et boire du vin de notre sponsor « Clos Henri », tout en parlant français. Et notre cheminée rechauffera l’atmosphère! Plusieurs mois sont déjà passés depuis l’AF French Film Festival. Si, comme moi, vous avez hâte de voir des films français au cinéma, soyez sur d’aller au prochain New Zealand International French Festival – vous trouverez plus de détails dans cette Gazette. Le mot de la présidente If you noticed this issue of the Gazette arrived earlier than expected in your Inbox, well done! The full, online version of the Gazette will now be sent out at the start of every term, to give you plenty of notice of upcoming events. A new monthly reminder email, along with the current weekly email of upcoming events, will ensure that you are always in the loop. This year, our major cultural event was the performance of the French mime, Laurent Decol. This was a resounding success with 110 people attending. For ninety minutes, M. Decol captivated the audience with a talented performance, which made us think as well as laugh. Thank you to both those who attended and those who helped promote this event. We hope to bring other French performers to Christchurch for you to enjoy. Term 3 kicks off on Monday 21st July. Classes are filling fast, so get in touch with the office (enquiries@afchristchurch.org.nz or 3658370) if you want to sign up. Our monthly Petit Matin Croissant continues to grow in popularity – in fact, it is “bursting at the seams”! To help with this we are working on an option for all-weather outdoor seating. Also, from July, it will be essential to book in advance for an upcoming Petit Matin Croissant. This is so that we have enough croissants for everyone. To book, email or phone AF de Christchurch by 5pm on the Friday preceding the PMC. It’s definitely still more pleasant to be inside of an evening, so mark Friday 15th August on your calendar and attend the next “Apéro du Vendredi” which has the theme “au coin du feu”. It’s been a few months since the AF French Film Festival. So if like me you are hankering for French films on the big screen, check out the upcoming New Zealand International Film Festival – you’ll find more details later in this issue. And come along to our next Ciné-Club event – on Friday 1st August we will be showing the comedy/drama “Amitiés sincères”. Finally, I want to take this opportunity to say goodbye and thank-you to AF teacher Marie-Luce Burlot. le terroriste noir de tierno monénembo Addi Bâ est un jeune Guinéen né vers 1916, adopté en France à l’âge de 13 ans, et qui, devenu soldat pendant la Seconde Guerre, est affecté dans le 12e régiment des tirailleurs sénégalais. Capturé après la bataille de la Meuse, Addi s’évade, erre dans les forêts, avant d’être recueilli par le maire du village de Romaincourt. Élégant et mystérieux, à la fois austère et charmeur, il y fera sensation, mais ce n’est qu’un début : en 1942, il entre en contact avec la Résistance et crée le premier maquis des Vosges. Les Allemands le surnommeront « le terroriste noir ». Qui a trahi Addi Bâ ? Une de ses nombreuses amantes ? Un collabo professionnel ? Ou tout simplement la rivalité opposant les Tergoresse et les Rapenne, deux familles aux haines séculaires ? Parce qu’il était noir, ce combattant de la France libre n’a reçu la médaille de la Résistance qu’en 2003, soit 60 ans après son exécution.

In 1914, World War I, the bloodiest war ever at that time in human history, was well under way. However on Christmas Eve, numerous sections of the Western Front called an informal, and unauthorized, truce where the various front-line soldiers of the conflict peacefully met each other in No Man’s Land to share a precious pause in the carnage with a fleeting brotherhood. This film dramatizes one such section as the French, Scottish and German sides partake in the unique event, even though they are aware that their superiors will not tolerate its occurrence.

mime decol show Le 1er Juillet dernier, le mime français Laurent Decol nous a fait le plaisir de jouer sa pièce «Les mots du silence» à Waimairi School. 110 personnes ont assisté à l’événement et ont pu profiter d’une très agrèable soirée! L’Alliance Française de Christchurch voudrait remercier tout le public présent ce soir-là, Waimairi School pour le prêt de la salle, toutes les personnes impliquées dans l’organisation de l’événement et bien sûr Laurent Decol pour sa gentillesse et son incroyable performance!

un oeil en france: pourquoi les intermittents du spectacle sont en colÈre? Voilà déjà plusieurs mois que la colère gronde chez les intermittents du spectacle, et les grèves à répétition menacent les festivals de l’été. En effet, les intermittents font pression sur le gouvernement. Ils tentent de dissuader le ministre du Travail, François Rebsamen, de signer l’agrément de la réforme de l’assurance chômage qui touche à leur régime. Voici quelques clés pour mieux comprendre la crise des intermittents du spectacle. Qui sont les intermittents ? Le terme « intermittent » ne désigne ni un métier ni un statut. C’est un régime spécifique qui permet une embauche en contrat à durée déterminée qui, contrairement au CDD (Contrat à Durée Déterminé) ordinaire, peut être de très courte durée et se renouveler sans limite durant plusieurs années. Entre deux contrats, un intermittent est indemnisé par l’assurance-chômage. Le régime des intermittents s’applique aujourd’hui au secteur du spectacle : audiovisuel, cinéma, musique, spectacle vivant… et concerne les techniciens et ouvriers ainsi que les artistes. Comment fonctionne le système ? Pour avoir droit à des indemnités chômage, les techniciens et les artistes doivent effectuer 507 heures de travail en dix mois environ contre 610 heures sur vingt-huit mois pour le régime général. Ils sont ensuite indemnisés pendant 243 jours, contre 122 jours pour un chômeur «classique». Que prévoit la réforme en cours ? Les intermittents vont cotiser davantage : jusqu’ici, employeurs et salariés versaient en tout 10,4% du salaire brut à la caisse d’assurance chômage. Avec la nouvelle convention, ce sera désormais 13,3%. Contre 6,7% pour le régime général. Autre changement : l’allongement de la période entre la fin de l’activité et l’indemnisation. Pour une personne ayant gagné entre 10.000 et 15.000 euros sur dix mois, elle passe de 0 à 14 jours. De 30.000 à 35.000 euros, elle passe de 14 à 65 jours. Ce différé affectait 9% des allocataires, il en touchera désormais 48%. C’est cette précarité de l’emploi que les intermittents dénoncent. Les nombreuses grèves ont déjà semées la pagaille au Festival de théâtre d’Avignon où plusieurs spectacles ont dû être annulés. Cependant la mobilisation devra être forte pour faire plier le gouvernement. L’été s’annonce chaud pour le monde du spectacle !
un oeil en france: why the entertainment workers upset? The anger of entertainment workers has been growing for several months, and the repeated strikes threaten the summer festivals. Indeed, the entertainment workers are putting pressure on the government. They are trying to dissuade the Minister of Employment, François Rebsamen, from signing the unemployment insurance reform that will interfere with their social-security scheme. Here are some key points to better understand the crisis that is affecting the entertainment workers. Who are the entertainment workers? The term «entertainment workers» refers neither to a job nor a status. It is a specific social-security scheme which allows hiring on a fixed-term contract, which contrary to a usual fixed-term contract, can be very short and renewed without any limit over several years. Between two contracts, an entertainment worker receives unemployment insurance payouts. Today, this scheme applies to the entertainment field: radio and television, cinema, music, live performance... and relates to technicians and workers as well as artists. How does the system works To be allowed to get unemployment insurance payouts, technicians and artists have to work for 507 hours in ten months, compared to 610 hours in twenty eight months for the general scheme. Then, they get payouts for 243 days, compared to 122 days for a «classic» unemployed person. What does the actual reform plan to do? The entertainment workers will pay more contributions: until now, employers and employees have paid 10.4% of their gross salary to the unemployment insurance fund. With the new accord, it will be now raised to 13.3%, This compares with 6.7% for the general scheme. Another change: an extension of the period between the end of their activity and them receiving their payout. For a person who earned between 10,000 and 15,000 Euros in ten months, it will extend from 0 to 14 days. For those who earned from 30,000 to 35,000 Euros, it will extend from 14 to 65 days. This deferred payment affected 9% of the beneficiaries, now it will affect 48% of them. It is this job insecurity that the entertainment workers denounce. The numerous strikes have already interfered with the drama festival of Avignon where several shows had to be cancelled. However, the protests will have to be strong to make the government give way. Summer will be tense in the performing arts world!
portrait: un frenchie a christchurch Rencontre avec Charlotte Bueb, professeur de français à l’Alliance Française de Christchurch, arrivée en Nouvelle Zélande il y a déjà quatre ans. Quel est votre métier ici en Nouvelle Zélande? J’ai eu plusieurs casquettes depuis mon arrivée en NZ à commencer par du WWOOFING dans des fermes de l’Ile du Sud, pendant mon Working Holiday il y a 4 ans. Ces jours-ci je travaille dans une école et un lycée à Christchurch, pour une compagnie de croisières/ nage avec les dauphins à Akaroa et bien sûr comme professeur de français à l’Alliance de Christchurch! Qu’est-ce-qui vous plait le plus dans votre vie ici? Le train de vie, vraiment relax comparé au rythme absolument dingue de Paris. Ici on peut sortir du boulot, filer direct à la plage et finir la journée dans les vagues. A l’opposé du métro-boulot-dodo! La proximité avec la nature et l’espace, avec à peine 1 million d’habitant dans l’Ile du Sud, on peut vraiment échapper complètement à tout civilisation si on le désire. Et la chance de tous les jours pouvoir profiter de paysages absolument magnifiques dont je ne me lasserai jamais. Pourquoi avoir choisi la Nouvelle Zélande plutôt qu’un autre pays? J’ai eu la chance de venir en voyage en NZ quand j’avais 17 ans. Ce fut le coup de foudre, à peine rentrée en France je savais que c’est dans le pays du long nuage blanc que je viendrais m’installer. Mes études terminées, j’ai sauté dans le premier avion pour Auckland et ne suis jamais repartie... Votre endroit préféré en Nouvelle Zélande? Dur de choisir, il y en a tellement des endroits merveilleux dans ce pays... Top 3: 1. les Catlins, la région la plus isolée et sauvage du pays, un vrai paradis avec une faune incroyable (dauphins, éléphants de mer, pingouins, etc...) un littoral à couper le souffle et de superbes cascades, et les meilleures vagues de NZ (ca c’est mon côté surfie qui parle). 2. Akaroa et la péninsule de Banks. Akaroa est un village adorable avec une vue magnifique sur la baie même si le côté ‘français’ me fait gentiment sourire. Il y a tellement à faire dans les parages, mais j’ai un faible pour les virées en kayak au lever du soleil pour aller voir les dauphins d’Hectors. 3. Wellington, qui mérite vraiment bien son surnom de ‘Coolest Little Capital in the World’. La ville la plus sympa de NZ, sur tous les plans. Taille, emplacement, et ce buzz permanent qui fait vibrer la capitale. Votre endroit préféré en France? La baie du Mont-Saint-Michel, un site absolument incroyable aussi bien historiquement que géographiquement, la côte Basque pour le surf et bien sûr, Paris, la plus belle ville du monde! Un chanteur ou groupe français à faire découvrir aux kiwis? Grand Corps Malade pour l’intelligence de ses textes et Shaka Ponk pour le fun. Un film français que vous recommanderiez? The Artist (même si vous ne risquez pas d’améliorer votre vocabulaire), sans doute le plus beau film français de ces dernières années. L’Auberge Espagnole, pour se mettre de bonne humeur et avoir envie de partir à l’aventure. Et le Père Noel est une ordure pour enfin comprendre toutes ces blagues et pourquoi les français se poilent autant avant Noel, et parce que c’est un vrai classique!

I have worn several hats since I arrived in NZ. Four years ago, I started by doing WWOOFING on several South Island farms during my Working Holiday Visa. I am now working at a school and a high school in Christchurch, but also for a cruise/dolphin-encounter company in Akaroa and of course I’m a French teacher at the Alliance Française de
Christchurch! What do you like the most about your life here? The really relaxed way of life compared to the crazy pace of Paris. Here we can leave work, go straight to the beach and end the day in the waves. It is the opposite of the daily grind! The proximity to nature and wide open spaces, with barely 1 million inhabitants in the South Island, it is easy to escape from any civilisation if you really want to. And also the opportunity to make the most of these stunning landscapes, which I will never get bored of! Why did you choose to come to New Zealand? I got the opportunity to travel in NZ when I was 17 years old. It was love at first sight, and when I came back in France I knew that I would come to settle down in the land of the long white cloud. As soon as I finished my studies I jumped on the first airplane to Auckland and I have never left since then... What is your favourite place in New Zealand? It is hard to choose, there are so many amazing places in this country... Top 3: 1. the Caitlins, the most isolated and wildest region of the country, a real paradise with incredible wildlife (dolphins, sea elephant, penguins, etc...), breathtaking coastline and wonderful waterfalls, and the best waves in NZ (that’s my surfie part speaking). 2. Akaroa and Banks Peninsula. Akaroa is a lovely village with a beautiful view on the bay, even if its «french» part makes me smile. There is so much to do around the area, but I have a thing for kayak tours at the sunrise to see the Hectors dolphins. 3. Wellington, which really deserves its nickname ‘Coolest Little Capital in the World’. The nicest city in NZ on every front: size, location, and the continuous buzz that stirs up the capital. What is your favourite place in France? The Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, an amazing place historically as much as geographically, the Basque Coast for the surf and of course, Paris, the most beautiful city in the world! A French singer or a French band Kiwis should discover? Grand Corps Malade for the intelligence of his texts and the Shaka Ponks for fun. A French movie that you would recommend? The Artist (even if you won’t improve your vocabulary), without a doubt the most beautiful French movie of the last few years. L’Auberge Espagnole, to get you in a good mood and give you the desire to go in search of adventure. And le Pere Noel est une ordure to finally get all those jokes and understand why the French laugh so much before Christmas, and because it’s a real classic!
French For Travellers Planning a trip to France or to a French speaking country? Join us for our French For Travellers classes. This “French for Travellers” class focuses on situations that you will most likely encounter when travelling: meeting people, catching a train or ordering in a restaurant.
If you don’t want to feel just one of these “regular” tourists, this is the right class for you! French for travellers (for total beginners or beginners)
This 15 hour course is designed for those of you who do not know French and will be travelling in the future in a French speaking country.If you love travelling, you know what a difference some knowledge of the local language can make. A few words or a few phrases here and there can do wonders. It can break the ice in an instant and most people appreciate even the most awkward of attempts. French for travellers classes run Saturday morning from 9:30 am to 12:30 am on 5 consecutive weeks.
