WOMEN’S RESULTS Bwpl recap Round 12 saw us host our northern rivals, Pine Hills FC. There have been many close and intense encounters when our two teams have played in the past, and we got exactly what we expected – a close, intense battle. The first half saw us have the majority of the possession and create triple the number of chances Pine Hills did, however, we were only able to take a 10 lead into the break.

The second have was a bit more even, however we still managed to create more chances than our opposition. We were unable to take our chances and Pine Hills scored 2 goals from the 3 chances that they created, which saw us walk away with an extremely disappointing 2-1 loss. Goals: Donna Smith. For round 13 we made the long trip up north to play second placed Peninsula Power. This was a crucial match for us, especially after losing to Pine Hills the previous week. This was a must-win match and we needed to play with our full potential. We started well, and dominated for almost all of the 90 minutes. Yet again we were poor in front of goals, but we manage to score twice. We defended well against a team that has the 5th leading goal scorer in Australia in any competition with 26 goals from 9 matches. However, give her an inch and she will take a mile, and she managed to find the back of the net. Luckily for us, our dominance, especially in the midfield was rewarded with a strong, albeit close, 2-1 win. Goals: Donna Smith, Own Goal. - Anthony Costa

In another dizzying and high-scoring encounter, Annerley welcomed Pine Hills to the cauldron that is Elder Oval for some Round 12 action, on a day when the equally-(more?) prestigious AnnerHills inaugural Beer Pong Championstravaganza was being contested (spoiler alert: we won that too.) The Ressies clearly had scoring on their minds as two early goals by Brit ‘Maddawg’ Madden and Hannah ‘it’s pronounced Murns’ Mearns both had early goals cancelled out by Python strikes. Fatigue started to show and Annerley conceded two early second-half goals before the girls showed true grit to fight back to a 4-4 draw courtesy of Simmo ‘we’ll have to start calling her two-goals’ Bartolsic’s brace. Round 13 saw Annerley journey beyond the wall up to sunny Redcliffe, where they faced a Power side devoid of their top scorer and ripe for the picking. In breezy conditions Power suffered a knee injury relatively early in the game but never looked to threaten an Annerley side hungry for goals. Recently-returned local legend Emily ‘Mittsy’ Simms was a threat all night and rewarded for her efforts with a goal whilst Simmo Bartolsic’s well-taken brace made Power pay with some fine finishing in the first half. Power conjured up a response late in the second half with a lovely effort from the edge of the box, but in truth would be happy to have not conceded more as the North remembered the last meeting of the sides in Round 2. Annerley will need to take this form into what is shaping up to be a crucial few weeks for the season as they face teams above or immediately below them in the Gap, Logan, and UQFC. - Sean Jenkins

CITY 3 recap Annerley’s City 3 Women’s side played their ninth league fixture of the season against a physical Ipswich City team. After looking the better of the two teams for large periods of the game, they were unfortunate to lose 1-0.

The team then welcomed local rivals Holland Park to Elder Oval. Annerley dominated the match and had a host of chances, but the lack of clinical finishing in front of goal meant we eventually drew 1-1. Lani Bigalk scored again to reclaim the outright lead at the top of our goal scorer standings. The team host AC Carina this week at home and are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to reverse the previous round's result. - Steve Chapman

CITY 5 recap The City 5s travelled to Easts to take on the thus-far dominant ladder leaders. The girls took it to Easts and were the better team for large periods of the match. Unfortunately we were unlucky to concede two long range goals to lose 2-0.

BRISBANE WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE Saturday 11th June

Elder Oval, Greenslopes 6:15pm (Reserves at 4:00pm)

As we approach Round 14, we prepare ourselves for our home match against The Gap. Last time the two sides met, we walked away 3-0 victors, and we are hoping to repeat that result on our home turf. Our preparations have been less than ideal, with injuries and sickness taking its toll on training sessions. That said, we will still try and prepare the best we can so we can continue our push a spot in the finals series come September. We are fully aware that The Gap will be making this as tough as possible for us, and we need to be at our best. We’re blue, we’re white, we’re… DYNAMITE! - Anthony Costa June ‘16

City league recap After a yet another defeat in round 7 (gallant as it was) the Annerley City 2 boys faced an uphill battle over the next three rounds. The first test would be UQ at home. Undefeated and only having conceded three goals all season this one was always going to be tough. The Annerley boys showed up with the Monteverde “Set it and fire” attitude and took a stunning one nil lead over UQ. UQ proved why they were top of the table and banged in a quick three, before Annerley showed true heart to come back and finish the game with a four all draw. (Goal scorers: Pavis 2, Adnan, Sam H). Following a brave point to UQ the boys headed with open minds and locked doors to Logan Lightning. Armed with the knowledge that their fitness would be superior to any opposition (thanks to the regime Jimmy) the boys started fast, JT slotting home after only 5 mins. Proving the last two weeks were no fluke, top scorer Adnan “The iron curtain” Muratovic latched onto a pin point cross from the right boot of Pavis to double Annerley’s lead. The game was all wrapped up when Conor Kelly headed home in the dying minutes. Annerley escaping Logan with 3 points, no goals conceded, and most surprisingly no stabbing victims.

Round 10 saw the City 2 lads at home to the renowned “grubs” of City 2, Toowong. Toowong countered Annerley’s superior footballing prowess with cheap shots and tactics obviously honed while watching Vinnie Jones “Soccer’s Hard Men” on repeat. Unfortunately for Toowong, no amount of underhanded thuggery could stop the beautiful symphony that was the Annerley City 2 side. A rare appearance from Lamin saw him grab a left foot screamer, and the game was done and dusted. With fleet of foot JT scampered down the left wing to put the result beyond a doubt. A fantastic three weeks with 7 points from 9. A dream result and more than anybody could have hoped for. Set it and fire boys! - Michael McNamara

A tough run of fixtures has seen the legion slump to bottom of the ladder, losing their most recent 3 matches against the top 3 on the table. While very competitive for most of the matches, small drops in concentration are costing them soft goals and seeing results slip away. This was particularly evident in the 3-2 loss against 2nd placed UQ after leading 20. While there is obviously some work left to do, finals football is not out of the question, with 4th place only 8 points ahead and a catch up match against fellow cellar dwellers Virginia in the next few weeks. A few wins and the return of some key players from injury will hopefully lead to some momentum as we enter the second half of the season. Legionnaires Code of Conduct Rule 3 3. MEN’S CAPITAL LEAGUE 2 Friday 18th March

Elder Oval, Annerley 1 8:30pm (Reserves at 6:30pm)

What a match we have this Saturday! Round 14 sees our Capital 2 side travel to Acacia Ridge in one of the match-ups of the season. Both teams sit in equal second, with only goal difference separating us. We have had a good run of results lately; being undefeated after the last 6 matches. Playing Acacia Ridge away however, is going to be a totally different story. We need to prepare well and be at our absolute best to come away with the win. We are confident, we’re working hard, and the players trust the systems and structures that I have put in place. This is going to be a cracker of game! - Anthony Costa
