50th Anniversary of Women's Football EVENT PROGRAM

th August

WHO ARE WE? AFC! Welcome to Annerley Football Club Women's Football - the Very Beginning In 1965 the Brisbane Junior Soccer Association (BJAS) granted permission for a women's soccer competition to be established. Annerley was one of the four inaugural teams entered into the competition, playing their first ever game at Wynnum at 2.30pm on the 16th of April, 1965

Mrs Vi Winnett took charge of the team as manager and Bob Geoghegan was named coach shortly after. Bob held the coaching role until 1976; during his tenure Annerley won the 1966 grand final and the following nine premierships (including seven more grand finals). In 1974 the first Australia Women’s Soccer Championships were held in Sydney and Annerley’s very own Elaine Watson (O.A.M) was asked to select, coach and manage the QLD team. Annerley had four representatives in the first state team and were well represented in both the State and National team from then onwards.

WOMEN'S City League 5

Annerley F.C. VS Grange Thistle 12:00PM Coach: Faye Naylor Coach's Corner! with Faye Naylor

Current Ladder

The last game of the season sees us play the new ladder leaders, Grange Thistle. If we win we have a chance at finals but it will be a tough ask. Despite a rather patchy game against Moggill last weekend we still have the potential to play our game, keep possession and play out from the back. It's been another good season with a great bunch of ladies who respect each other, play to win and enjoy each game. Thanks ladies.

Team List Alanna Metcalf, Anh Huynh, Cara Cabilan, Chelsea Smith, Chrissa Stillanos, Clare Silcock, Courtney Bailey, Jodie Ingram, Julie Bundz, Kylie Mumberson, Letitia York, Lucy Adams, Megan English, Melanie Glover, Paula Muentes Bernal, Samantha Watts, Stacey Ladas & Theresa Harrison.

WOMEN'S City League 4

Annerley F.C. VS North Star 2:00PM Coach: Rodo Barahona Coach's Corner! with Rodo Barahona

Current Ladder

Well the season is almost gone. We have just two more games before finals playoffs. At the moment, we are sitting in seventh place, just three points behind Grange and Mitchelton, so anything can happen....Overall it has been a good season, the players seem to enjoy themselves at every game while playing better as a team each week. Our focus now is to share in this great celebration of Annerley Football Club's milestone - it will be a big day and we wish all the best to each of our teams. We also want to extend those wishes to all of our Annerley Women's teams entering into their own finals; GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!

Team List Rebecca Medway, Tameka Adams-McKenzie, Danielle Brady, Maria Rosier, Ashleigh Shiel, Leah Farrell, Crystal Farrell, Christine Tran, Jessica Manning, Ciaron McDonald, Jo Rogers, Jessica Pool, Michelle Barahona, Elicia Abbott, Kaylene White, Allira Spencer, Charleene Reynolds, Lucy Buzzacott & Kim Morgan.

WOMEN'S City League 1

Annerley F.C. VS Taringa Rovers 4:00PM Coach: Michael Fahey Coach's Corner! with Michael Fahey

Current Ladder

Here it is - the business end of the season and our last home game. Looking back, it has been a fairly successful year thus far. We picked up the Pine Hills Invitational BWPL Reserves trophy pre-season, we're finishing the season in the top four and will be heading into finals. We currently sit in second spot to the Ipswich Knights, and two good results will secure that for us. We will face a determined Taringa side today as they still have a slim chance of making top four but must beat us to do so. Last game we went down in a tight tussle on the back of a lacklustre performance, but our previous game here saw us 7-2 winners. We are well prepared for a very physical encounter and are ready to send a message. Go Annerley!

Team List Amanda McKay, Kalla Linsley, Emily Purton, Hannah Mearns, Jenna Hutchinson, Kailee Solomon, Katie Evans, Natalie Apolony, Romina Richardson, Cienne Morton, Tamara Ambrose, Tamara Birleson, Josie Samphier & Tammy Weckert.

Brisbane Women's

Coach: Anthony Costa Coach's Corner! with Anthony Costa What a fantastic day for Annerley FC Women’s Football! Today celebrates 50 years since Annerley fielded its first ever women’s team. I can think of no better way to celebrate than with a BWPL match that is shaping up to be an absolute cracker. Last time our two sides met we were disappointed to see Pine Hills walk away as 1-0 victors, in what many would describe as the match of the year. This time we are out to even the ledger. Today is the last match of the season and a win would secure us a top three finish come finals next weekend. My girls have worked extremely hard as a squad, have played some fantastic football, and have shown great improvement throughout the year. I’m extremely proud of how far the team has come, as well as the manner in which they apply themselves, both on and off the pitch - these girls are a credit to this club. Hopefully we can finish the season with another good performance.

Team List Gemma Layfield, Donna Smith, Maddison Rejtano, Stephanie Pantelas, Chiara Marconato, Emily Simms, Mariko Kirkcaldie, Jaymee Birleson, Rebecca Sweeney, Kate Deegan, Mollie O'Connor, Chloe Thompson, Laura Blue & Zoe Argeros.

Premier League

PINE HILLS Coach: Ben Fuhrman Coach's Corner! with Ben Fuhrman

We're really looking forward to this game. Unfortunately, for the past two months or so, we have struggled to put our strongest line-up on the park. As such, both our consistency and our results have suffered. Thankfully we are now starting to see all of our players trickle back, and with finals just around the corner it's not a moment too soon. What better way to warm-up for finals than by travelling to Elder Oval to take on one of the competition heavyweights, on what will be a fantastic day for women's footy at Annerley FC.. We're expecting a tough match, which is no different to every time our teams have faced one another this season. We know Annerley have strengths all over the park and we have to make sure we are on our game for the entire 90 minutes, otherwise it could be a very long night for us. Should be a cracker!

Team List Kath Page, Tegan Dawney, Jillian Tanson, Mel Rodwell, Sarah Nisbett, Ellie Carpathios, Caitlin McCarthy, Caitlin O'Halloran, Cassie Vial, Erin Nichols, Sarah Fuller, Laura Bryant, Fern Doyle & Emma Cantrell.

Wherever you go, there you are. - Mike Brady

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right.” ― Henry Ford Full name: Danielle J. M. Brady. Nickname(s): Oh how long have you got? Most soccer people know me as Danoz. Current Annerley team: City League 4, although I'm currently more of a part-time player due to work commitments (I make guest appearances). Preferred position: Somewhere in defence (I'm not a glory chaser and I get dizzy in midfield!). Occupation? Cafe owner/operator - head monkey. Which footballer inspires you most? Jayme Birleson! The kindest person and the toughest footballer. Current Annerley position? Joint Women's Vice President. Best ever goal celebration? Just standing there and bracing for the team "stacks on". If you could trade places with a famous footballer for a day who would you choose? Nadine Angerer. She gets to travel heaps with her football and wins shiny awards! Pregame rituals/superstitions? ALWAYS being the last to get ready and leaving my watch on until just before kick off. Years with Annerley F.C? 11! Since 2005.

Full name: Kevin Hannan Nickname(s): Kevvy. Current Annerley position: Secretary, treasurer and part time groundsman. Years with Annerley F.C? Since 1999. Greatest footballing achievement? A goalsaving tackle against Andy Miller (Dungarubba’s redheaded tough as boots striker in the 80s) is definitely up there with the greatest moments. Most embarrassing footballing moment? My mum always seemed to remind me about my first game of football. I socred one goal in each net. I'm told the own goal was sadly the better of the two, but as I was six I don't remember that much. Best ever goal celebration? I did get a yellow card once when I ran straight off the field after scoring at Mooroondu. If you were down to your last $20 what would you spend it on? Probably petrol to run the pump to water the fields. Worst habit? Spending too much time at the club!
