THE LATEST FROM AFC In partnership with Pride in Diversity, SKINS launched the inaugural Rainbow Round in Sport (March 30th - April 3rd) to help raise awareness and boot homophobia out of sport for good. Our Senior Women's teams at Annerley joined some of Australia's best athletes across 5 major sporting codes to show their support for the cause. The ladies and coaches all rocked rainbow laces in their respective weekend games. Thanks to City 5 coach Steve Chapman for gathering the laces and encouraging our involvement. Homophobia? KNOT US!

A couple of weekends ago our Women's Premier League squad enjoyed a delicious breakfast at The Monkey Bar Cafe. The team sat up on the upper deck with an amazing view of the Annerley junior fields. Most of the girls indulged in the smooth Genovese coffee hand made by the Monkey Bar baristas. All players and coaches filled their bellies with breakfast delicacies and were ready to face the big game later in the day. A big thank you to owner/manager Danielle Brady (also ex AFC Women's Vice President) for her warm hospitality. We highly recommend all AFC members and friends check out the revamped menu. Check their Facebook page for open hours and more details. Have you got some AFC news to share for the next AFC Vibe? Send through the details with photos to be featured in the next edition! WOMEN’S RESULTS BWPL recap Round 5 saw our BWPL team travel to UQFC field 3, affectionately known as “the paddock”. Prior to kick-off, we were sitting at 2 wins and 2 losses and with a week off looming after this round so we knew a win would be vital. UQ were sitting in last place and we needed to make sure we played a strong game and walked away with a good result. That is exactly what we did. We performed very well in the first half, dominating possession, territory and creating chance after chance. We went into the half time break 7-0 up. At half time we made a few changes, and unfortunately weren’t able to continue our dominant first half performance. UQ came out with strongly in the second half and we were only able to add a single goal to our tally. Full time UQFC 0 def. by Annerley FC 8. Goals: Donna Smith 3, Laura Blue 3, Alice Foster and an own goal.

We knew the match would be difficult with Olympic playing a handful of NPL players as well as their knew signing (a former Matilda’s player). The match was played at a high tempo with Olympic having a majority of the ball, playing a very high pressing game. Luckily we’ve worked hard on how to deal with different styles of football, and played quite well to walk away 3-0 victors. Goals: Donna Smith x2, Laura Blue. -Anthony Costa Premier League 19/03/16 Annerley FC 8

Ressies recap Round 6 saw us play host to local rivals Eastern Suburbs. East’s went into the game sitting mid-table and fielding the strongest team they have had available to date. We knew this game was going to be tough. The first half was very strange, with some interesting refereeing decisions being made; decisions that neither team could comprehend. We went into the break 3-2 down with East’s reduced to 10 players after a second yellow card. At half time we addressed what needed to be done and were confident we would walk away victors. A dominant second half saw us score 3 unanswered goals and win convincingly. Full time Annerley 5 def. East’s 3. Goals: Laura Blue 3, Donna Smith 2. In round 7 we travelled to local rivals, Olympic. The game was a big one for us, as we knew that a win would put us back into the top four. We had prepared well and the players had been working very hard at training.

Round 6 saw Easts come to visit Elder Oval. In a high-scoring and often frantic encounter, fanfavourite Mel Pirlo scored a delightful brace with an absolute pearler into the top corner and a towering header. Danni McGuinness, dark horse candidate for Reserves’ golden boot, added another from 30 yards. In stifling conditions the girls ran their hearts out however Easts were devastating on the counter attack, scoring three goals in each half. Revenge will be on the players’ minds when Annerley travels to Easts in July. The BWPL Reserves returned to winning ways on the 9th of April, recording a crushing victory over Olympic FC on their own turf. Coach Matt ‘The Professor’ Linsley rang in the changes, showing the full depth of the squad at his disposal. In the soaring temperature ol' reliable striker McGuinness scored her first of many hat-tricks for the season, capitalising both on sterling buildup play from the midfield as well as opposition errors. In conjunction with a powerful drive off the post by winger Mel ‘Cogdawg’ Coggins and another Pirlo Pearler™, Annerley went into the break five to the good. Although Olympic scored an impressive goal early in the second half from outside the box, Coggins showed her threat from anywhere by leathering in a second from a tight angle off the left flank.

From there both sides threatened but no more goals were scored in the blistering heat. Annerley will be looking to take this momentum to Capalaba & Souths for an early-season test of our title credentials in the coming weeks. -Sean Jenkins Premier League Reserves

We played our second fixture of the season against Souths United. Although we were the better side for the majority of the game, we went down 4 - 0 at Wakerley Park. Our following fixture was against Logan Lightning. The home team were undone by our ability to keep possession of the ball, and a few exceptional finishes. Round 4 saw us take on Capalaba Bulldogs at Elder Oval. We put in a spirited performance however the game finished 5 - 2 in favour of the Bulldogs who put together some great individual performances. In the most recent fixture, we made the short journey up the road to play against the Tarragindi Tigers. Unfortunately the local derby ended in absolute disappointment, with the Tigers coming away with an 8 - 2 victory. We’re looking forward to our next few games and coming away with some positive results! – Alex Winters

the first 11 minutes, played some highly entertaining football to get a goal back on the stroke of halftime through the predatory instincts of Lani Bigalk. The team conceded two unfortunate goals midway through the second half to eventually lose an otherwise even match 5-1. Round 5 brought the ladies get back to winning ways, with a Chrissa Stilianos special ensuring all three points against Holland Park. The team is playing an entertaining and enjoyable style of football and continue to develop every week. We look to consolidate our spot in the top four over the next few games. -Steve Chapman

After two exciting results to start the season, the City 5's lost their first game of the season in round 3, 4-1 to North Brisbane in extreme heat (credit to Chrissa Stilianos scoring her first goal of the season!). The team then welcomed Easts to Elder Oval for a local derby in round 4, and after conceding three goals in

Mitchelton After our round 8 clash against powerhouse Capalaba was postponed due to the Roar semi final, we come into round 9 playing host to South’s United. South’s are currently sitting towards the bottom of the ladder. That said, they are a handy team full of young up and coming players. We know that if we underestimate them we will be in for a long afternoon. We’re expecting a tough game, which gets that little bit tougher with the absence of our leading goal scorer, Donna Smith. Donna was injured in the Olympic game and will be out for a few weeks. Despite losing Donna we’ve worked hard on our new structure with a few of players playing out of position, and a handful of players stepping up to play premier league. We need to play well to get all three points, and are confident we can deliver. - Anthony Costa

City 2 are still battling hard for their first win of the season as we continue to improve every week. In round 2 we lost at home to Souths United 0-2. We showed some promising signs in round 3 drawing 2-2 against Centenary Stormers, with our star fullback Parviz Ghayazi scoring a screamer from a free kick 35m away from the goal. Soon after the former 1st team winger James JT Farrah, gave us a 2-0 lead inside first 20 minutes. Unfortunately we conceded two early games at the beginning of the second half and after that we didn't manage to score again. In round 4 we played Mt Gravatt at home and once again after a good start controlling the game, we managed to shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing opposition to score. JT pulled one back after cleverly stealing the ball and easily put one pass the keeper. The goal of the game came from David Joncheff with a clever toe poke chip over the keeper from 20 meters. We lost the game 3-2 but it was our best game to date. -Adnan Muratovic

MEN’S RESULTS City league 3 Although I was away for our first two games of the season, we recorded a draw and a win. Unfortunately my first game back saw us go down to Northstar 3-2 on April 8th. We started the game slowly and gifted Northstar 3 early goals. Eventually we got into our stride and clawed our way back to trail 3-2 at halftime. The second half was very open as chased the game. We had many opportunities to salvage a result, but unfortunately it was not to be. Full credit to the team for not giving up. Special mention to the younger players in the squad - Connor, Nick and Riley, who are growing in confidence weekly. These lads have plenty of potential and it’s great to see them improving every game. We’re lucky to have an experienced side led by team captain Vaughn Hunter which will help the lads in their development. - Eamonn Turner City League 3 20/03/16 Annerley FC 1

in blue were able to claw 1 back and mount some serious pressure for the next 30 minutes. Unfortunately while chasing the goal to level the match, the lads conceded 2 late goals to give the Mitchelton boys a flattering win. A postponed fixture in round 4 meant a long break for the legion, but on return, they faced a currently undefeated Grange team. Despite some beautiful football played by the legionnaires, it was Grange who scored against the run of play with a 100m goal starting with an Annerley corner, a swift counter attack and a failure to clear the ball by the defense. Annerley scored early in the second half to level it 1-1, and both teams had moments where the match could have been clinched, but in the end had to settle for a draw. The legion sit mid table with a game in hand, and will look to secure all 3 points from a tricky away fixture to Peninsula in round 7. Code of Conduct Rule 1 1. Legionnaires (City 4) The Legionnaires have had a solid start to the season. After a draw in their opener against North Brisbane and a win against Toowong in round 2, the legionnaires succumbed to a newly promoted Mitchelton side in round 3. Our games against the Gap and Western Spirit were quite disappointing for the first team given we lost them both. The Gap game in particular was upsetting given the size of the score (5 - 2 to them) and due to the number of errors we made against one of the premiership favorites. Unfortunately we faced Western Spirit without many regular first team players. The game was a tight affair with the home side just about deserving their 1-0 win. -Steve Faulkner

Last week was saw the reign of Anthony Costa start as “Caretaker” coach for the Capital 2 Men’s team and what a start! At a windy Ipswich City the boys defeated their opponents 5–1 in a measured, controlled performance, inspired by the tactically astute Costa. Costa has had an immediate effect on the team, both on game day and at training. The team played well at a difficult venue and always looked in control. We’re looking forward to the visit of Brisbane Force this Friday night for an 8.30pm kick off. WHAT IS YOUR

Sexy chris Christopher MacLennan, Capital 2, Left back

cj Cara Joyce Cabilan, City 5 Gold Why do people call you CJ? I just decided to call myself that. My family did not know who CJ was at one stage. Why do you play for Annerley? You guessed it, I’m blue, I’m white, I’m dynamite! What would you sing at karaoke? I have to reach a high threshold of inebriation to sing Eye of the Tiger. If you could go back in time what year would you travel to and why? I would love to be around in a period when Freddie Mercury was at his prime. If money wasn't any issue - what is your dream job? I would love to do charity work full-time, with a primary focus on permanent solutions. I feel that solutions has to come from the individuals who experience the hardships, which seems axiomatic and fundamental but I am convinced this is not always the case. Would you rather trade intelligence for looks or looks for intelligence? I am confident I have both. I am not saying I have the looks, I am saying I am confident that I am not ugly.

Greatest footballing achievement? Just getting on the field right now is an achievement in itself, with my ageing body and ever-horrible footballing ability. Pre-game song? I like my pre game songs like I like my women – loud and trashy. If you could trade places with a famous footballer for one day who would you choose? Why? Probably Mitchell Bailey. Have you seen the size of his derriere? The way he uses it to shield the ball is football genius. Favourite book? I don’t read so good, but Trainspotting was pretty good. Favourite quote? Jesus, please mate…there’s too many to pick from. Right now its probably this one from Alex Winters: “New banger’s mate?” It haunts me everywhere I go. Favourite Annerley goalkeeper? Dave Anthony Wood, the goalkeeper. Any additional information you would like to share? I’m looking for an Annerley wife. Preferably female.
