AE 2023 First Quarter Outlook Our Focus and Commitment to Exceed Expectations

As we kickoff the 2023 calendar year, we feel that it is important to look back on the past year and give thanks for both the challenges and successes we have had! I am personally proud to have met our previous goal of developing our team’s reach geographically, such as Georgia and North Carolina, while maintaining value for our current and new clients. I am also proud of the strong sense of team our firm fosters, such as our ability to raise $2,000 for staff affected by Hurricane Ian in 2022. I hope that each member of our team is aware of their vital role in these accomplishments and are proud of what we have achieved to date. As I stated last year, we are fortunate to be in the transportation infrastructure industry as it moves center stage due to our country’s infrastructure reinvestment plan for much needed upgrades to our aging transportation system. AE is poised to capitalize on these opportunities through our commitment to hiring the best and treating them as such!

With these thoughts in mind as we embark upon this new year, we have two main goals for 2023:

1. Continue our commitment to staff education and training. We understand that what makes AE a great firm is our staff and their dedication to their projects, thus we are committed to providing opportunities for staff development and encouraging professional growth for all personnel. To that end, I challenge each of you to work closely with your managers to develop a training plan that allows you to become the best version of yourself. We will continue to sharpen our skillset with the training, qualifications, and experiences to ensure our firm is at the forefront in all our service lines.

2. Controlled, smart growth across geography and service lines. We look forward to continuing to grow our presence in the Southeastern transportation market, becoming the premier provider for state and local agencies throughout the region. We have made strategic resource investments into the Georgia and North Carolina markets and are excited to see these areas continue to expand. As we expand geographically, we will still maintain our heavy involvement and focus in Florida and growing our staff there as well. We are excited to see the continued diversification of our Florida CEI market and the expansion of our planning capabilities to address the real needs of our clients on a local level.

Cory and I set goals each year for the company and fortunately—due to God’s grace and a steadfast commitment to quality—we have been able to exceed our goals and set new ones to continue to grow our brand. We look forward to what 2023 brings and working together to achieve these new goals as well!

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

NORTH

This $4.8M lump sum project includes the construction of a 200 LF dock and 110 LF landing pier to berth new research vessels. Construction will also include a 110” floating dock and landing, electrical, sewer, water, and lighting services to the dock and drainage improvements to the existing site. All work to construct the dock will be in accordance with FDOT Bridge specifications and Standards.

CENTRAL CENTRAL

The SR 400 (I-4) Florida’s Regional Advanced Mobility Elements (FRAME) project includes the installation of roadside units (RSUs) that include dual-mode Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) and Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) radios. The installation of RSUs will allow for the transmission of Signal Phase and Timing (SPAT) data, CV emergency vehicle preemption (EVP), and CV transit signal priority (TSP) applications in Hillsborough County, Plant City, and the City of Tampa. Construction cost is expected to be $10.1M.

The Lake Wilson Road project includes the reconstruction of Lake Wilson Road and Old Lake Wilson Road from Ronald Reagan Parkway to the north of CR 532 into Osceola County from a 2-lane road to a 4-lane divided roadway with all new bike lanes, storm drainage, retention and flood compensation ponds, signals, and signing and striping. AE provided CEI services for FDOT District 4 Palm Beach Operations as the consultant team for CEI services for this bridge replacement project. The project involved complete bridge demolition and removal of the 30 existing bridge piles, replaced with 36 new 18” piles, including 3 test piles. All piles utilized the SMART pile EDC technology per the latest FDOT specifications. Bridge features included:

» The new bridge superstructure is 50’-8” wide and comprised of 30 precast FSB 15x60 Flat Beams, topped with 6½” CIP toping to allow for grinding and grooving for rideability enhancement.

» Dual 11’ vehicular travel lanes, 2’ shoulders and dual 10’ shared used sidewalk path separated by traffic railing.

» Pedestrian enhancements included the addition of 10 new LED Street Luminaire lighting, and new load center connected to the City of Delray Beach system.

» The approach included new roadway subgrade, base and asphalt due to elevation increases, new drainage swales, independent French drain systems, and new 6’ sidewalks.

Since the project was constructed linearly, key milestones for advancement were the completion of the utility relocation prior to project mobilization, full installation and acceptance of test piles and bridge piles, and placement of the deck pours to allow for ease of crossing access during construction.

Congratulations team on a successful on-time project completion with zero findings on the post audit review!
