MESSAGE

2022 AE Midyear Update – Our People, Our Clients, Our Commitment

As we pass the midpoint of 2022, I wanted to share my thoughts on our industry and reiterate to the entire team how fortunate I feel to work with such a qualified and committed group of engineering professionals at AE Engineering, Inc. As a group, we should all feel fortunate to be in such a stable engineering and construction industry that continues to be looked upon to address the real life challenges we face in each of our everyday lives.

We are excited about the possibilities the transportation industry brings to our door: The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) presents great opportunities to improve our aging infrastructure and provide much needed expertise to local agencies to ensure the success of their projects. We remain committed to our core services: CEI, Planning, Construction Materials Testing, Building Inspection, and Asset & Infrastructure Maintenance and look forward to expanding these service offerings geographically.

To this end, we continue to make investments in the development of our internal teams who manage and support each of these services.

Developing a strong internal team of professionals continues to be a pillar of our company’s ability to grow and sustain a high level of service.

Our goal is to continue to develop our teams’ reach geographically while maintaining our commitment to bring value to each of our clients.

This calendar year thus far, we are excited to share that we have gained experience in North Carolina for our CEI/Asset & Infrastructure Maintenance teams and have also secured a major project with the Georgia Department of Transportation through their Major Mobility Improvement Project (MMIP) for the I-285/I-20 Interstate Improvements! This is a $685.6M major interchange improvement project that will transform commuting in metro Atlanta; AE is excited to be a part of this major undertaking to improve traffic flow and safety around the Atlanta metropolitan area.

We feel that the end of 2022 should continue to be a rewarding year and as we move into 2023, we will continue adapting development strategies and forming new talent management and workforce development strategies. We feel that these are critical to resolving our most challenging workforce issues, including staffing, escalating costs, and potential supply chain disruptions.

We remain optimistic that we will meet and exceed the goals established for our firm with your knowledge, skills, and abilities guiding the way!

Working with Sarah and Michael was a pleasure. Because AE provides such a wide variety of services, they were able to get real world experience in material testing, design, and project administration of private, City of Jacksonville, and FDOT construction projects. Although their time was limited, the interns were able to walk away with a clearer understanding of our industry and a better idea of what path suits their strengths and interests.

JACKSONVILLE TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY ST. JOHNS RIVER FERRY PHASE IV IMPROVEMENTS Start Date: January 2021 Completion: January 2022 Cost: $6.6M

AE provided CEI services for this ‘Design-Build’ project which involved landside and waterside infrastructure and facilities improvements at each of the respective ferry landings in Mayport Village and on Ft. George Island. A coordinated effort was needed to complete these landings, as work was ongoing waterside and landside on each side of the river.

The overall scope was focused primarily on pavement rehabilitation and markings; various Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements; new bulkheads and heavy mooring bollards; catwalk access; accessory/ utilities building; public restroom facilities; as well as landscaping and lighting enhancements at each landing.

ESTIMATED COMPLETION September 2023

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is building the First Coast Expressway (FCE), a limited-access toll road connecting I-10 to I-95 to reduce congestion on nearby roadways and provide a storm-related evacuation route. FDOT hired Superior Construction to build a segment of the FCE encompassing nearly 10 miles of roadway with automated toll gantries, 15 bridges, and a stormwater management system. The project includes the construction of a progressive and unique diverging diamond interchange (DDI), which reduces crashes and improves safety on the roadway by eliminating common accident-producing conflict points while reducing queuing time and length. Cost: $179M
