Created in 1945 by Marcel Gitton in Sancerre, the Gitton vineyards cover 27 hectares judiciously distributed amongst the best soils of Sancerre and Ménétréol, soils rich in diversity, giving complexity and character to the wines made from individual plots. All wines sold are produced on the Gitton estate which, each year, presents up to ten different Sancerre and several Pouilly Fumé. In addition, there are 4.5 hectares of Pouilly and 2.5 hectares of Côteaux du Giennois. In Sancerre the Pinot Noir of 4 hectares is vinified as red or rosé. ITINÉRAIRES D’UN GOURMAND - N°3

Each plot of vines growing on either fliuty or chalky soil is vinified separately preserving the individual character of the terroir. The wines made in stainless steel vats are fruity taste with notes of citrus and the floral freshness of white flowers. Wines fermented in huge oak barrels are fleshy and rich in the mouth, round with candied fruit aromas and spices. These are wines of flint: the most prestigious: the Galinot 2009 and 2010, Les Belles Dames 2013, Les Herses 2014 and the most emblematic Les Vignes du Larrey 2010 and 2012: a gastronomy white! On the slopes of Ménétréol, from limestone soil with wine making in vats, are the traditional Sancerre, with the fruit of Sauvignon: L’Amiral 2014 and Les Montachins 2014. These vintages are especially suited to pairing with fish either grilled or with a sauce or simply and wonderfully as a before dinner aperitif. We cannot mention the Gitton estate without mentioning the flinty reds: Les Herses 2013, Les Romains 2012, The Sancerre Rosé come from Pinot Noir: Les Pommereaux and Les Romains 2013. If the reds Les Romains and Les Herses also go well with fish and poultry, slightly chilled, as fruity and light, it is not the same for Les Pommereaux where this red, derived from limestone, is more structured and is best with red meats. Gitton Père & Fils, a serious house, discreet with a range of original wines, made iwith respect of the strictest tradition. Wines that will surprise you! Go discover them...
