COVID-19 SYMPTOMS If any of the following symptoms are present or if you think that your child is sick, keep the student at home, inform the school of symptoms, and reach out to a health care provider about COVID-19 testing and treatment. MAJOR SYMPTOMS Loss of taste or smell Feeling feverish, having chills, temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher New or worsening cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing MINOR SYMPTOMS Sore throat Runny nose or congestion Muscle or body aches Headache Fatigue Nausea or vomiting Diarrhea

WHEN SHOULD MY STUDENT GET TESTED FOR COVID-19? Testing plays a key role by identifying infected individuals to help prevent person-to-person transmission of the virus. If your student is sick or has one or more of the symptoms listed above, and the symptoms are not due to a known, chronic condition (e.g., allergies, asthma). If your student has been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of the infected person for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.

FREE COVID-19 SERIAL TESTING COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT Adams 14 is proud to participate in a program from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to offer free COVID-19 serial testing for Adams 14 students (K–12) during the 2021–2022 school year. Parents/guardians of a student under the age of 18 who would like to participate need to sign a school-specific consent form online or submit a printed copy. Students over the age of 18 do not need parental consent, but are still required to register to be tested. Students who participate in this preventative program are eligible for a cash reward through a prepaid gift card. A participating student will receive $25 for the first COVID-19 test that is administered to them through this program. A student can then receive $10 for every subsequent test that is administered each week (at a maximum of one incentive allowed per week). Serial testing helps detect asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic individuals and thereby, helps reduce the spread of the virus. This rapid antigen test is conducted at the school at which the student attends and provides test results within 15 minutes after taking the test.

For more information about the program, visit the CDPHE website at covid19.colorado.gov/freetesting-schools. For the each school’s testing schedule and consent forms, visit bit.ly/A14-Covid-Test-Schedule.

FREE AT-HOME COVID-19 TESTS U.S. GOVERNMENT The U.S. government is providing every household in the country an order of four free at-home COVID-19 tests. Orders will usually ship in 7-12 days.

To order your tests, visit www.covidtests.gov (English) or www.covidtests.gov/es (Spanish).

WHAT IF MY STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE? Families of a student who has tested positive, is waiting on the results of a test due to exposure, or is in quarantine due to exposure should call the health clerk, the attendance liaison, or the front office. If possible, send proof of the positive test to the health clerk. Provide the date of symptom onset, brief description of the symptoms (for example: cough, headache, and congestion), and vaccination status. Please include whether or not the student has received a booster shot. If the student is asymptomatic, please provide the date the test was administered. The COVID-19 response team will provide notification of return date. A negative test is not required to return to school.

WHAT IF A SCHOOL STAFF MEMBER TESTS POSITIVE? Any staff member who has tested positive, is waiting on the results of a test due to exposure, or is in quarantine due to exposure should notify their department or building leader. The leader will share the information with the COVID-19 Response team. Be prepared to share verification of the positive test. Please provide date of symptom onset, brief description of the symptoms (for example: cough, headache, and congestion), and vaccination status. Please include whether or not the individual is boosted. If the staff member is asymptomatic, please provide the date the positive result was received. The COVID-19 response team will provide notification of return date. A negative test is not required to return to work.

17

TOOLS FOR PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 ISOLATION If you test positive for COVID-19, are waiting for COVID-19 test results, or have symptoms, stay in a contained area of your home to avoid infecting people inside your home. Isolation is more strict than quarantine. Do not go to work/school or participate in activities outside of your home until you are likely no longer contagious. QUARANTINE If you are not vaccinated and have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, stay home and away from people for a set amount of time to prevent potentially infecting others. Even if you do not feel any symptoms, you might be contagious after exposure to COVID-19. If symptoms develop, start the isolation period. EXPOSED If you have been in close contact to someone who has COVID-19, stay home. If symptoms develop, start the isolation period. Close contact means that you have been within six feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. In a K–12 indoor classroom setting or a structured outdoor setting where mask use can be supervised, the close contact definition excludes students who were between three to six feet of an infected student if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time.

For more information, visit covid19.colorado.gov/isolation-and-quarantine.

18

Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth

ADAMS 14 | COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidance

ISOLATION TIPS WHEN SPACE IS LIMITED It is best to have a separate room and bathroom for someone sick with COVID-19, but sometimes that is not possible. FOLLOW PRECAUTIONS

Keep at least six feet between the sick person and everyone else. Be especially careful to keep people at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 (older people and people with medical conditions) away from anyone who is sick. Wear a mask or cloth face-covering around others. Anyone under age two, anyone who has trouble breathing, and anyone who cannot remove the mask without help should not wear a mask. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow. Wash hands often. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth. Don’t allow visitors unless they absolutely must be in the home. Don’t share personal items like phones, dishes, bedding, or toys. Have the sick person eat in a different area than the rest of the household, or eat at a different time.

ASSIGN A COVID CAREGIVER

Assign one person to help the person who has COVID-19. The assigned caregiver should not be someone who is at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. Assign a different person for other household members who need help with cleaning, bathing, or other tasks. When a person with COVID-19 is not able to care for themselves, the caregiver should bring food to the sick person and wash their dishes; clean and disinfect in areas where the sick person has been; and wash the sick person’s bedding and laundry.

MAKE BEDROOM ACCOMMODATIONS

If possible, open a window to bring in and circulate fresh air. Place beds at least 6 feet apart, if possible. Sleep head to toe. Use a curtain, bedspread, large sheet of cardboard, or similar item to separate the sick person’s bed from other beds.

MAKE BATHROOM ACCOMMODATIONS

If possible, open a window to bring in and circulate fresh air. Have the sick person clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces after using the bathroom, if they are able. Wait as long as possible after the sick person uses the bathroom before entering it.

This information is from the Colorado Department of Health and Environment (covid19.colorado.gov/isolation-and-quarantine).

STUDENT REMOTE LEARNING EXPECTATIONS 22

ADAMS 14 | COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidance

Remote learning is learning that occurs temporarily, outside of a school building, in response to emergency situations and offers continuous educational opportunities that build upon previously taught content. Should any grade level or school need to engage in remote learning, Adams 14 will follow the practices outlined in this section.

IN THIS SECTION About remote learning............................................................24 Remote learning systems and platforms...........................24 Technology devices...................................................................25 Student remote learning expectations..............................25 Remote learning attendance.................................................26 English Language Development (ELD)..............................27 Special education......................................................................27

23

ABOUT REMOTE LEARNING In Adams 14, remote learning happens through online instruction and includes two types of learning experiences: Synchronous (at the same time): Learning that takes place in real-time with a teacher. The delivery of instruction is live and virtual as a whole-class, small group, or individual meeting. Asynchronous (at different times): Learning that occurs without a teacher’s live instruction on the student’s own time or self-paced without direct interaction of participants. Learning can be accessed through online assignments, videos of direct instruction, or offline activities.

REMOTE LEARNING SYSTEMS AND PLATFORMS During remote learning, teachers will deliver instruction through Google Meet, Google Classroom, and/or Seesaw (preschool through fifth grade). Google Meet: A video communication tool that teachers use for live meetings with students. Real-time video instruction is a valuable asset for synchronous learning and allows students to get instant feedback and answers to their questions. Google Classroom: A learning management system for teachers and students. Teachers can post assignments, materials, questions, and activities while students view and complete work according to due dates. Seesaw: A learning management system for teachers and students. Teachers can post activities and assignments while students can respond and interact. Clever: A digital learning platform where the district or a student’s teacher can add online programs. Clever supports single sign-on, meaning once students enter their username and password for an app, they will be able to access it with one click.

TECHNOLOGY DEVICES The district issues Chromebooks for Adams 14 students in second grade and above and iPads for Adams 14 students in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. If your student needs a Chromebook, please schedule an appointment at bit.ly/A14-TechDevice-Appt. Appointments are available Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. If you are unavailable during these hours, please call 303-853-3333. If you are in need of an iPad for your student (preschool through first grade), please contact your student’s school for an appointment.

To learn how to use your Chromebook, visit bit.ly/A14-Chromebook-Tutorial.

STUDENT REMOTE LEARNING EXPECTATIONS During synchronous learning, students receive instruction from their classroom teachers via Google Meet. During asynchronous learning, students engage in activities throughout the school day as indicated in Google Classroom or Seesaw. During remote learning, students will: Ensure that their devices are charged and ready (Chromebook or iPad); Prepare their headphones and all learning materials, this includes usernames and passwords; Follow their school daily schedule as indicated in Google Classroom or Seesaw; Engage in learning activities, this includes using the digital tools and platform features; Complete assignments by the due dates provided in Google Classroom or Seesaw; and Contact classroom teacher with questions and/or support needed.

Meal services are provided at each school from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. for all schools.

REMOTE LEARNING ATTENDANCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Teachers record student attendance for morning and afternoon sessions, even if they are asynchronous. Asynchronous sessions Teachers determine and record if a student is present based on homework/assignments completed. Students need to complete at least one assignment per asynchronous session to be considered present for that session. This applies for hybrid days (morning synchronous/ afternoon asynchronous). Asynchronous whole days When teachers are not available, students are required to turn in at least one assignment per session (morning/afternoon) to be considered present. Teachers record and report student attendance to the school attendance liaison daily. Teachers are not able to change/edit student attendance for previous days; only school attendance liaisons have Infinite Campus permissions to do so.

SECONDARY SCHOOL Teachers record student attendance for every scheduled session, even if they are asynchronous. 26

ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT During in-person and remote learning, Adams 14 will continue to identify students who speak a language other than English at home. These students, identified as English language learners (ELL), will receive support to continue to learn academic English and progress in content classes. Students will attend an English Language Development (ELD) class focused on developing English reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This class is designed to give students language skills at their specific language level. In their other classes (English, math, science, social studies), students will use strategies so they can develop their English and to understand the content. For more information, visit adams14.net/about/departments/culturally-and-linguistically-diverseeducation.

SPECIAL EDUCATION The Special Education Department is committed to providing free and appropriate educational opportunities for students with disabilities in alignment with public health guidelines. To address the unique needs of students with disabilities, special education providers will continue the work with families to collaboratively identify services for each student that can be provided both directly and indirectly in remote and in-person learning environments. Service plans may be adjusted as needed for the circumstances of the learning environment. MY SCHOOL DAY | ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MORNING • In the morning, my parent/guardian will check my temperature at home and make sure that I don’t have any COVID-19 symptoms before sending me to school. • I will pack my backpack, making sure I have my mask, my district-issued iPad or Chromebook, power cord, and a water bottle.

GETTING TO SCHOOL • If I ride the bus, I will wear my mask and maintain physical distance from others while waiting, and I will continue to wear my mask while on the bus. • If I walk to school or if my parent/guardian drops me off, I can greet my friends from a safe distance while I line up to enter the school. • My parent/guardian can walk me to the door, but they need to wear a mask. (Each grade level will have an assigned entrance to enter the school building, which will be clearly marked with bilingual signs.) • I will eat breakfast in the cafeteria. 30

IN MY CLASSROOM • I will use hand sanitizer outside my classroom before entering. • I will hang my coat and backpack on the back of my chair or in the hallway. • My supplies will not be shared this year and will be labeled and kept separately from my classmates’ supplies. • I will sit in my assigned seat inside my classroom that is set up with physical distancing to the best extent possible. SPECIALS (ART, MUSIC, PHYSICAL EDUCATION) • My Specials teachers will move from class to class, and physical education (P.E.) will be held outside as much as possible.

RECESS AND LUNCH • With additional COVID-19 protocols, salad bars will return. Individually wrapped fresh fruit and vegetables will be available.

THROUGHOUT THE DAY • Throughout the day, my school classrooms, cafeteria, bathrooms, playground, and high-touch areas will be cleaned and disinfected. • Parents, guardians, and school volunteers are allowed in the buildings with symptom screening and masks. • Assemblies and field trips may resume with additional COVID-19 precautions.
