Injay Tai
As my term as your Club President draws to a close, I want to reflect on change and refinement we have brought to the American Club Taipei in the past two years.
Firstly, renovations. The newly refurbished California and San Francisco Rooms was a standout achievement, creating versatile, state-of-theart spaces that have quickly become favorites for events and gatherings. Coupled with the airconditioning system upgrade and Swimmimg pool temperature control, these projects have significantly enhanced comfort and functionality throughout the Club. Meanwhile, this summer’s refurbishment of the Rendezvous and Fitness Center will further elevate our facilities to meet Members’ needs. Looking further ahead, plans for the 2026 lobby refurbishment are already underway, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement. These initiatives form part of our rolling CapEx plan, allowing us to address both immediate needs and long-term priorities.
Secondly, staff and organization. While hardware renovation is most visible, staff and organization are key pillars to drive the operations of a Club. Under the leadership of our General Manger, we have intensively enhanced cross departmental dialogues, cross-training of staffs among different venues and a variety of staff activities to bring the nearly 200 staffs together as one group working for the Club. The result of those changes reflects on improvement of operating efficiency in all areas. Particularly, on the culinary front, our benchmarking efforts reaffirmed the exceptional value offered by our restaurants. By comparing menus with leading establishments, we have maintained a balance between quality and competitive pricing, ensuring dining at the Club remains a highlight for
Members and families.
Thirdly, Membership. It is so precious and worth celebrating that ACC has been “Home Away from Home” for three generations of many Member families. The history booklet of “ A Legacy and Timeless Journey Unveiled” was published, first time in the Club’s 57 years of history, as a tribute to our Club’s rich heritage. In the meantime, we started in September 2024 to implement a new interview process of new Members to maintain and uphold the high standards of our Membership. For older Members, we have established the Senior Social Membership program to offer them more options to stay and enjoy th Club. We have also actively invited ambassadors and representative of ROC’s key trading partners to join the Club. As of today, 15 have joined. They are expected to increase our business and elevate the Club’s visibility in the international community.
These achievements would not have been possible without the dedication of our Board, Committees, and Management team. Their hard work and collaboration have driven every project forward. I am equally grateful to our wonderful staff. Their passion and professionalism make our Club a joyful place for our Membership.
Above all, my thanks go to you, our Members. Your engagement –whether attending events, volunteering, or sharing ideas – has been the cornerstone of our success. The vibrant, welcoming community makes the American Club Taipei so special. As we approach the Annual General Meeting on April 26 th, I encourage all of you to take part. Voting and participating in the AGM are vital to ensuring your voice is heard and shaping the Club’s future.
It has been a true honor and privilege for me to serve this amazing community as President. As I prepare to hand over the baton, I do so with pride and confidence. With strong leadership, a clear vision, and Member support, the Club is poised to reach greater heights. Thank you and I look forward to joining you in enjoying all that lies ahead for the Club.
Warmest regards,
Club President
Victor Su TREASURER'S Message
Dear Fellow Members,
As we move into 2025, I am honored to present an overview of our Club’s financial performance for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. The past year has been marked by significant investments and a strong focus on operational improvement, setting the stage for continued growth and success.
Revenue Report
Unit:
Our operational revenue saw steady growth, with F&B revenue increasing by 4.56% in 2024. Despite the challenges of higher food costs, the F&B team managed to introduce refreshed menu options while maintaining a price freeze. This reflects their creativity and efficiency in serving our Members.
Operating Surplus Results
Unit:
In 2024, our operating surplus fell short of budget expectations by NT$8.8 million. This decrease, from the NT$22million surplus in 2023, was driven by higher material and electricity costs, payroll adjustments, and increased depreciation resulting from significant capital investments. While these
factors created challenges, they also underscore the importance of these investments in securing the Club’s sustainability and enhancing the member experience in the long term.
Operational and Project Capital Expenditures (CapEx)
Last year was transformative for the Club, with total investments of NT$5.3 million in Operational CapEx and NT$58.4 million in Project CapEx. These funds were allocated to key projects, including upgrades to the sewage system to meet government requirements and various modernization efforts. Notable updates include the refurbishment of the San Francisco and California Rooms with the advanced LED screen. Additionally, we enhanced the swimming pool with a new heating and cooling system, ensuring precise temperature control for an improved experience. We also installed an energy-efficient air conditioning system, reducing energy consumption while increasing comfort. These investments reflect our commitment to providing Members with top-quality facilities and services.
Cashflow and Bond Coverage Ratio Update
Our significant capital investments resulted in a reduction in cash flow by NT$25.4 million. Consequently, the Bond Coverage Ratio decreased from 100.2% in 2023 to 92% in 2024. However, this ratio remains solid by recent standards, demonstrating our commitment to prudent financial management and long-term stability.
As we look ahead to 2025, the Club will continue to seek opportunities to enhance member experiences, update facilities, and maintain financial health.
The Finance Committee will closely monitor our financial standing and oversee the execution of new initiatives. The Board of Governors will ensure that all projects are effectively managed and meet their intended goals.
I invite you to join us at the upcoming AGM on April 26, where we will discuss our progress and plans for the future. Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling year ahead.
Warm regards,
Victor Su Treasurer Finance Committee Chair
GENERAL MANAGER’S
Peter Wood Message
Dear Members,
As we step into March, I am delighted to share some of the exciting activities and events that will be taking place at the Club. March promises something for everyone, from enriching experiences to magical family moments.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, join us on Friday, March 7, for Crafting with Story Wear, hosted by Ms. Kuan Chen, founder of the trailblazing organization Story Wear. Discover how upcycled materials are transformed into stunning fashion pieces while empowering women and championing sustainability. This inspiring event will be held in the California Room from 10 a.m. to noon and promises to be a meaningful way to celebrate this important day.
The following evening, on Saturday, March 8, we welcome fathers and daughters to an enchanting night at the Father and Daughter Dance Storybook Characters. Held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the California Room, this cherished annual tradition invites you to dress as your favorite storybook characters and create magical memories together. From a delightful dinner buffet to DIY Craft and plenty of dancing, this event is all about celebrating the special bond between fathers and daughters. Costumes are encouraged, so let your creativity shine!
Another standout event this month is A Private Gallery Affair: Dai-Chien Artwork Revealed, taking place on Thursday, March 27. This exclusive members-only gallery evening will feature
over 25 original masterpieces by the legendary Chang Dai-Chien, one of the most revered figures in art history. Held in the California Room from 6 to 8:30 p.m., this is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the brilliance of his work, generously shared by a private collector for one night only. Don’t miss this extraordinary celebration of one of the great masters of the 20th century.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Saturday, April 26 , followed by the much-anticipated ACC Festival. This highlight of our calendar brings together over 400 Members, families, and children for a day of exceptional food, entertainment, and camaraderie. The AGM is not only an important opportunity to shape the Club’s future but also a celebration of the vibrant community we share.
As we approach the warmer months, we are thrilled to bring back the ever-popular ACC Pool Parties. Known for their lively atmosphere, great music, and fantastic food, these events are a staple of our outdoor season. Whether you’re relaxing poolside or enjoying time with friends and family, our pool parties are sure to make your summer unforgettable.
Finally, I want to thank each of you for your continued engagement and support. Your participation, ideas, and enthusiasm are what make the American Club Taipei such a special place. I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events and enjoying another exciting chapter of our shared Club journey.
Kind regards,

Charity Outing to Happy Mount Colony A December to Remember
Written by Bridget Liao Photo by ACC
At the ACC, we believe in the importance of connecting with our communities—whether through staff-led initiatives, member-driven efforts, or collaborative events that bring us together in service. As part of this commitment, we encourage opportunities for both our Staff and Members to give back, fostering a culture of empathy and engagement beyond our club’s walls.
One such opportunity came in December when the ACC staff organized a heartwarming visit to the Happy Mount Colony, a facility that provides 24-hour care for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Originally planned as a staff event, the outing was later opened to ACC Members who wished to take part in spreading holiday cheer. Together, our group of 12 set out with two large birthday cakes, over 100 bags of cookies and an eagerness to bring joy to the residents—only to find that they would, in turn, give us something even more meaningful.
Hidden in the mountains of Bali, New Taipei City, Happy Mount Colony has a long and remarkable history. It was founded in 1934 by Canadian missionary and doctor George Gushue-Taylor, who arrived in Taiwan in 1911 and dedicated his life to improving healthcare. At the time, leprosy patients faced severe stigma and lacked access to proper treatment. Dr. Gushue-Taylor fought tirelessly to establish a safe haven where they could receive care with dignity.
for ten residents born in December. While we set up the stage, the staff gathered everyone in the auditorium. In addition to cakes and cookies prepared by the ACC culinary team, a generous member contributed an ACC Holiday Turkey Set, making the occasion even more special.
Dr. Gushue-Taylor's mission was met with significant challenges. The colonial Japanese government withdrew its initial land grant, forcing him to find a new location. Even then, local protests erupted due to widespread fear of the disease. After years of advocacy and mediation, Happy Mount Colony finally opened in 1934. Over time, as leprosy was eradicated in Taiwan, the colony evolved into a nonprofit care facility for individuals with disabilities, autism, and ADHD.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the dedicated staff, who guided us through the facility and shared its inspiring history. Walking through its well-preserved buildings, we gained a profound appreciation for Dr. Gushue-Taylor’s vision and the unwavering dedication of those who have continued his legacy.
The day’s activities began with a Gingerbread House Workshop, bringing creativity, laughter, and a bit of a sticky mess. The residents, familiar with various therapy and recreational activities, embraced the experience with enthusiasm. But the true highlight was the birthday celebration
The birthday honorees were the stars of the day, but the joyful atmosphere extended to everyone. The celebration was filled with music, laughter, and heartfelt moments, creating a perfect ending to our visit.
While one can read about Happy Mount Colony online, visiting in person was a completely different experience. The warmth and curiosity of the residents reminded us of the joy found in simple moments, and we were deeply moved by the compassion and dedication of the staff. Despite limited resources, they have created a home filled with care, love, and a true sense of belonging.
As we left, we carried more than just memories —we left with a renewed appreciation for the power of community. Acts of generosity are not only about what we give but also about what we gain: perspective, gratitude, and a deeper understanding of those around us. Every act of kindness helps make a difference. We encourage our Members to join us in future outreach opportunities, where even the smallest gestures can leave a lasting impact.
