his gourmet dinner restaurant is within the listed ‘palace’ of Ca’n Epifanio which is better known as Christophorus Heufken’s Hotel Sant Salvador. It takes its name from local hearsay that the renowned architect designed the emblematic courtyard façade. The décor is unconventional, colourful, and fun, with a glass-walled dining room affording good views of the enchanting garden and, in fine weather, of the tables on the terrace. The affable Madrid-born chef Victor Comin Mayordomo is at the helm in the kitchen. He served his apprenticeship in France, had a restaurant in Madrid, and worked at Mallorca’s Cap Rocat for two seasons. His cuisine is a modern interpretation of traditional Spanish dishes which are created with obvious passion. Victor told us that he and his team always enjoy themselves while working in the kitchen, because they do what they most love. Gaudi offers an à-la-carte menu and since 2015 a tasting menu with 8 courses. Dinner is normally preceded by an appetizer from the kitchen (at our visit we had an oyster ‘bonbon’ with algae and cava foam). We were highly impressed by both service and the dinner – which ended with a spectacular chocolate ‘volcano’ filled with red fruits and drizzled with warm chocolate at the table (which unfortunately is not on the menu any longer). We drank the excellent Mallorcan white wine Soma Viognier from Bodegas Ribas.
