5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Widely known as a “meeting in print,” the AA Reviver communicates the experience, strength, and hope of its contributors and reflects a broad geographic spectrum of current AA experience with recovery, unity, and service.

The AA Reviver is supported through magazine subscription sales and additional income derived from the sale of AA Reviver items.

The awareness that every AA member has an individual way of working the program permeates the pages of the AA Reviver, and throughout its history has been a forum for the varied and often divergent opinions of AA’s everywhere. Articles are not intended to be statements of AA policy; neither does publication of any article imply endorsement by AA or the AA Reviver.

Its editorial team are primarily accountable to the AA Fellowship as a whole. Within the bounds of friendliness and good taste, the AA Reviver enjoys perfect freedom of speech on all matters directly pertaining to AA. Like the AA Fellowship, it mirrors that there is but one central purpose; to try and carry the AA message to alcoholics and practice the AA principles in all its affairs.

Hi Members, The effects of Covid have created a more difficult time than any of us could have imagined. And yet members and groups have continued to step up and do both local and international meetings on zoom, or meetings by phone, to keep AA alive and supporting the members.

Love Zoom II LOVE ZOOM I’ve just been zooming into the Founder’s Day meeting. It’s the 14 June and we were celebrating the foundation of Alcoholics Anonymous on the 10th June 1935; the sobriety date of Dr Bob I believe. Maybe some AA historians out there will correct me Ricky B, was asking for any articles for The News which she said has suffered a downturn in subscriptions in the past few years due in part to the lack of social contributions. The thought occurred to me “why not an article on zoom AA meetings?”

There were speakers at the Founders Day meeting that I have never seen before and also some familiar faces. To hear Scotch John read out his list of deceased members was very poignant. One of those was Brighton Bob with whom I did a Steps series at Richmond Unity Group many years ago which was wonderful.

Today’s speakers told of some of the great difficulties they overcame without having to pick up that first deadly drink. Deaths of loved ones, breakup of relationships, financial difficulties and the general day to day problems that living throws up.

Aussie Stories as to whether I might have a problem with alcohol. I would have been in my late teens / early twenties. It was to be in my early thirties, that I got sober.

I have heard mixed messages about the efficacy of Zoom since being ‘confined to the barracks’.

Some Alkies love them and some can’t wait for F2F to restart. Personally, I love them. I haven’t been to so many meetings in years! I have seen people I had only heard about and I seen people I haven’t seen in years. I loved the Mooroolbark meeting on a Monday night. It was great to see Tom the Pom and Don B, and it’s heartwarming to see newcomers taking their first steps to recovery and experiencing the same joys and difficulties I did.

I would not have been to the Mooroolbark meeting without Zoom as it is so far from home in Melbourne. I have been to Zoom meetings in the USA which in my opinion have a different emphasis to Australia. I think they tend to emphasise the Spiritual side of the program more than we do in Australia. They even open the meeting with the Lord’s Prayer. One meeting I went to had 230 people in attendance. I would have never experienced these meetings without the lockdown and Zoom. I loved attending these meetings.

I think there are only two drawbacks with Zoom meetings. One is the after meeting gathering when phone numbers are exchanged. I think this is particularly beneficial for the newcomer. Secondly, I think that Tradition Seven is more difficult to maintain without the basket being passed around. I believe our Central Service Office has suffered as a result. So members please take not of the banking details next time you attend a Zoom meeting.

I arrived in Port Macquarie NSW yesterday after driving from Melbourne with our dog as company. This is my winter sojourn. So it was great to zoom in today to the Founders meeting. With the advent of Covid-19 it was impossible to fly with Misty (our dog) in her crate as accompanied cargo in the aircraft hold as I have done for the past ten years.

I am blessed that I reached my fortieth sober year on the 25th May 2020. I reflect on all the good things that have come true for me as I read page 83 or our Big Book.

I recommend you read and re-read the Twelve Promises that are achieved when half-way through the ninth step. They are inspiring and achieveable.

Aussie Stories First and foremost, I would never have been able to drive here. I would talk about it for months and never do anything. I would be too sick to drive, that is either too drunk or too hung-over.

‘Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change’ – this has happened for me.

Today’s reading from my little 24 Hour Book is inspiring for me. ‘I pray that God will help me to become all that He would have me be.’ I’m not there yet. But life is a journey and as is written on page 60 of the Big Book ‘We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection’.

A doctor once told me when I was in my late twenties that if I continued to drink – he had no idea of the quantity – thereby continuing to do the ongoing damage to my liver that I would dead by forty years of age and my immediate reaction was “well, roll on forty”, as I didn’t want to be here anyway. Now I’m in my seventies and life has never been better. I have been through some traumatic times sober without the need to pick up a drink. The obsession has long ago left me and provided I don’t watch the nightly news, I’m generally at peace.

The Twelve Steps are a magnificent program of recovery and for living.

PROGRESSION OF THE DISEASE My name's Jack and I am an alcoholic. I used to drink a lot and now I can't drink at all. When I drank I felt empowered. I was short and weedy at school and drinking and smoking enabled me to run with the fast crowd: - girls, cars, cigarettes, pubs and later hooch, trips and pills. The homely, sensitive kid was, by 15, being noticed about town. I felt I was the master of my destiny, the author of my own by-lines and the director of my own movie with Jack in star role.

But the small country town of my youth started to look a bit daggy as the backdrop to my rising star, and I turned to alternate lifestyles and light drugs to supplement the booze. It was at this time that I shared a needle and contracted a high viral load 8

Aussie Stories of Hep c, which amazingly showed no physical signs until I was 4 years sober in my mid-forties. Flitting from "scene" to "scene" still left me with a sense of something missing. I suspected after many part-time jobs and dropping out of two university degrees, that perhaps I drank too much. Drugs weren't the problem as I could not afford regular supplies. One of the "scenes" I dipped into was young couples with small children who drank and smoked in sessions around open fires, but who otherwise seemed to be creative and productive in their lives.

I bought into this lifestyle, starting a small business, raising the kids, building a house, with only the occasional blast when the old crew got together. As life started to stabilise, my income grew and the ability to dabble in drugs again and drink more regularly became easier. My business had become successful and the drugs had to go because they didn't fit with my newfound business credentials.

The booze stayed on, and by my early thirties, it had become a daily few with a weekly blast. Any excess, I was able to justify by my hard-working success. After all, my family was well taken care of. Where they weren't taken care of, I didn't see was emotionally, because when I drank, I was sucked up into my own ego, and was emotionally remote. Not surprisingly, the family "scene" fell apart. My wife, emotionally abandoned in her own home, took up with the kid's school teacher and left. How dare her! After all I've done! But the strength of my very vocal indignation was undermined by the private glee I felt as all the stops were off. I painted the town red and had the pants and the t-shirt to prove it.

I married again and expanded the business and drank with impunity. But you know there was still something missing. By now I had my big house, cars, a business that was booming, a beautiful wife and my kids every other weekend. I was elected to community boards, was winning awards, a monthly radio spot and a healthy cash flow. But it still wasn't coming together for me. My doctor thought I might be borderline alcoholic, so I tried controlled drinking. That moderated my drinking for about 2 weeks and having considered that a success, I went back to the normal heavy daily load. I purchased personal management training programs for my senior staff, and attended myself to see if I could find the key to my increasing sense of emptiness.

I secretly put "Give up drinking" as one of my primary goals. I tried acupuncture, hypnotherapy, diet, fitness and even stopping drinking altogether for about 2 months in fruitless attempts to find a solution other than alcohol to fill my inner void.

After a series of private but alarming catastrophes, over which I seemed to have no control, I submitted to daily blackout drinking as the only form of measured control I knew. Then one day I found myself fully dressed for the office, having an emotional and mental breakdown in the courtyard at home, not understanding what my wife AA REVIVER

Aussie Stories was saying. My production manager was arriving to take me to his house, and then to rehab after a visit from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. I figured I pretty much had it. I stopped trying to pay the rapacious creditor and threw in the towel.

I started the long journey to finding Jack. I had a few slips, the last of which I tried desperately to get drunk, and to my despair it just didn't work anymore. I kept turning up at meetings regularly, got myself a sponsor and slowly got to like myself.

I liked the idea that I could choose my own version of God and that it shouldn't be me. I accepted that, because even though outwardly my life looked pretty good, I was convinced that inwardly my life was a wasteland. I have had several versions of a higher power and each has been familiar enough to afford me conscious contact as the need arises. It's been for me the same power all along; it's just that as my inner life has strengthened so too has my conscious contact, and the type of dialogue this involves.

My journey in recovery has been a spiritual awakening, resulting in a personality change sufficient to bring about release from the disease of alcoholism on a daily basis.

So that my past does not become my future, I stay in touch with other recovering alcoholics, my sponsor, and go to meetings regularly. I enjoy sustained periods of inner calm and outer happiness, the likes of which I never thought possible in this life. I endeavour to accept life's challenges and responsibilities with courage and good humour. I do this thanks to the design for living described in the 12 Steps and the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.

RECOVERY, UNITY & SERVICE Hello friends, I’m an alcoholic. Today I live life, it’s a gift so wonderful gratitude abounds my being. I can remember though, not that long ago either, when I was doing the AA program my way. It was a very messy painful affair. Today that’s not the case and the beauty about it is that there isn’t enough time in the day to pack it all in. Where does the time go?

I was a daily obsessive drinker; being that in the past consumed all my time. What turmoil, yet today I allocate a good chunk of my time to the fellowship that pulled me out from the gates of insanity and certain death.

Alcoholics Anonymous is my fellowship. The time that I give is in unity, recovery and service. They represent the three sides of our triangle. For me the circle that encloses the triangle represents my spiritual well being.

A few years ago I did not want service because of personalities. So I threw my service position in at that group and moved on to another group. I felt no unity at all, then personalities again (no principles), resentful personalities, mine – of course.

The spiritual circle vanished, so did recovery. I chose the spirit (alcohol) again.

Since coming back, I found tea towel, chairs and banners. Time passed and I moved up the ladder. Today I give service a lot, it pays high dividends for me. There is a lot to do in groups: setting them up, setting them down, GSR’s, secretaries, treasurers. There is a convention committee and there are many rosters, such as prisons, CDU, Cyrenian House, Graylands, schools, police academy, Serenity Lodge, Voca, 12 step call list (this one is an excellent gift) and hospitals. I need it all.

Recovery, unity and service. If one is absent for me, then the circle would vanish, and that would mean certain death. I have been in and out too much and hopefully, I’m here to stay a day at a time. When I was drinking, I made many promises of gunna this and gunna that. Today I keep those promises solely because of the teachings of Alcoholics Anonymous.

SEPTEMBER TOPIC; SERVICE WORK And Why We Do It

IT’S ALL ICING I will never forget my first service commitment. A guy at my group always brought a cake when we celebrated birthdays. Well, one time, he missed the celebration, so I gave him a hard time in a playful way. This went on for several weeks.

It just so happens, my sponsor’s birthday was coming up. And you know how they say everything that pops into your head shouldn’t come out of your mouth? Well, I didn’t follow that advice and I blurted out, “I’ll make sure the cake is here!” And from that day forth, I have brought the cake for birthday night.

What a great thing it has been. All I ever wanted in life was to be part of something.

I’ve not been lonely since the day I walked into the rooms. Sweets totally got me through my early sobriety. And still today, I always have a reason to never miss a birthday night.

ROOM IN MY HEART I’ve heard it said that there’s no loneliness like that of alcoholic isolation. I believe in it. The shadow of this disease has been with me as long as I can remember.

As a child, broken promises and unmet expectations caused distrust to grow inside me in place of trust. I built a dark room in my heart. I filled it with every disappointment. I piled high the resentments and nurtured them. I thought no one knew, understood or even cared. I was wrong.

There’s a group of people who care, a recovery community called Alcoholics Anonymous that knows and understands me.

I just attended a powerful AA meeting and I didn’t share what was in my heart. While walking home I felt the familiar pain of loneliness come over me. It’s been a while since I thought about drinking to take away this type of pain. The program and the Step work have given me new tools to integrate truth into my life. I’m not so alone anymore.

So today I decided to write out my thoughts and share them with someone I have learned to trust. I have heard that intimacy is the sharing of life experiences.

That’s what we do in our AA meetings. That’s how we build bridges of trust and understanding.

Just for today, the pain of loneliness brought me back to pick up a pen and write.

The pain is gone now. Peace has once again returned. Once again, I learned to trust the process.

THEY HAVE OUR BACKS About 16 years ago my wife left in the middle of the night with my oldest daughter who was then a tiny baby. No note, no telephone and no vehicle to get to work 10 miles away. I was so lonely and scared.

Three weeks later, I sobered up, went to AA and got a sponsor. I wasn’t happy with the situation, but I accepted it. One night at work I got a call from my wife saying she wasn’t ready to come back or let me see our daughter. The conversation just got worse from there. I was so full of hurt and anger. The only friend I had in that town was my sponsor.

I am crying right now as I remember him and two AA women sitting in my job’s parking lot waiting for me to get off work. Just seeing them outside sitting took this huge weight off, I knew everything was going to be OK. My sponsor let me use his phone to call my wife back. Then we all hugged and my sponsor drove me home. To this day I can remember that love I was shown. I want to thank all the sponsors out there who quietly save so many of our lives.

Her Perspectives On Recovery Using the AA Program AA TRADITIONS: Our Assets for Connection and Focus AA’s Twelve Traditions can seem daunting to anyone in early sobriety who’s inclined to look at them. Yet AA depends on these Traditions; so, hopefully this article can draw attention to their value and portray them as assets to be cherished. AA Traditions are meant to serve us by setting forth guiding principles for maintaining Alcoholics Anonymous as a vital, viable organisation dedicated to saving and restoring lives shattered by alcoholism – in particular our own! The Traditions define AA purpose and structure, and clarify how groups and AA members should interact with each other, with AA at large and the public in general.

Our Traditions enable groups, AA members and AA as a whole to stay connected, healthy and grounded, and stay focused on our primary purpose, which is alcoholics getting and keeping sobriety. At the most basic level, staying connected and staying focused means keeping our connection to a Higher Power (Tradition 2) through the program of AA, and keeping focus on our singleness of purpose (Tradition 5) through the fellowship of AA. The more we incorporate AA into our lives by being faithful members of AA, the more we recognise the AA Traditions as assets we can ourselves ‘own’ for connection and focus. Tradition 2, Tradition 4 (Autonomous), Tradition 7 (Self-supporting), Tradition 9 (Never be organised) and Tradition 12 (Principles before personalities) are more about us being connected. Tradition 5, Tradition 6 (Lend the AA name), Tradition 8 (Non-professional), Tradition 10 (Outside issues) and Tradition 11 (Attraction not promotion) are more about us being focused. Tradition 1 (AA unity) and Tradition 3 (Desire to stop drinking) are about plenty of both.

The first two of what were to become the AA Twelve Traditions were expressed in the Foreword to the 1939 first edition of the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book. There was a declaration that ‘the only requirement for membership is an honest desire to stop drinking (Tradition Three), and an urging for anonymity (Tradition Eleven)’. AA Traditions in a long form were first published by Bill W in 1946 in the ‘AA Grapevine’ magazine under the title Twelve Points to Assure Our Future. These were formally adopted at AA's First International Convention in 1950. In 1953, Bill W then published the book ‘Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions’.

Members Articles Tradition 1 emphasises the absolute necessity of unity both at every level and between every element inside the upside down triangle of AA. As well as applying to individual AA members and to all service bodies, it naturally applies to AA groups.

When we consider this, then precisely half of the twelve AA Traditions pertain to and refer to ‘groups’. So, what constitutes an AA group? Is there a formal, definitive description? Yes! If any bunch of alcoholics align themselves in a way consistent with the long form of Tradition 3 and a section of Warranty Six, Concept XII (look it up), then they can identify as an AA group.

Our various Traditions address matters regarding service boards, committees, service centres with employees, and the roles and scope of leaders. Individuals filling leadership positions are advised they don’t hold governing authority, individuals who deal with the press, radio, film and social media are informed they need to maintain anonymity, and individuals in their self-identification as AA members or when acting on behalf of an AA service entity must prevent anything controversial from tarnishing AA’s attractiveness in society’s eyes.

And now some questions!

Tradition 1: What personal desires am I willing to abandon for the good of unity? Am I always aware that whatever unites me with my fellow alcoholic is more important than that which separates us?

Tradition 2: Am I bringing a devotion to Step 3 into my group's Group Conscience? Is a Higher Power granted full expression in the Group Conscience?

Tradition 3: Do I always conduct myself in AA as a committed, caring AA member who doesn’t just ‘talk the talk’? How judgemental am I towards people who identify as alcoholics?

Tradition 4: Is any action by my group going to affect the welfare of neighbouring groups? Who determines what acts committed by an AA group or service body adversely affect AA, at a group level or more broadly?

Tradition 5: Am I carrying the AA message to the newcomer and being an effective sponsor? Is my group reaching out to the still suffering alcoholic?

Tradition 6: Do I know of any group or service entity seemingly contravening this

Tradition 7: Would my group decline all gifts carrying some perceived obligation?

Tradition 8: Can this Tradition deter AA members from emotionally blackmailing other members or a group, or seeking compensations indirectly?

Tradition 9: Should an AA service body have empowerment over another, or have the authority to invalidate another?

Tradition 10: Could my opinions and pronouncements have a negative impact on impressionable, vulnerable newcomers?

Tradition 11: Do I have the good judgement to distinguish between self-promotion - in its most subtle, well-disguised forms - and my yearning to promote AA? Tradition 12: Do I understand the implications of placing myself above the principles of AA, in particular by disrespecting the anonymity of myself and others?

In the Foreword to the Big Book second edition it states: “As we discovered the principles by which the alcoholic could live, so we had to evolve principles by which the AA groups and AA as a whole could survive and function effectively”. Appendix I at the back of the book commences with the sub-heading “AA experience has taught us …”, and asks these two questions: ‘How can AA best function?’ ‘How can AA stay whole and survive?’ The answers are simple enough: through our connection and focus.

The number of words used to write this article would be something like 10% of the total words you’ll hear at one, single AA meeting devoted to AA Traditions (with the hope all speakers remain ‘on topic’). Therefore, the obvious suggestion here is that enthusiastic AA members seek out Traditions meetings to attend, ask questions after the meetings and go get informative AA literature about the Traditions. If we are to carry our message of gaining recovery through the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous to those out there still suffering, then we need some kind of nuts-andbolts understanding of AA the organisation. you need a smart phone, tablet, or computer with a camera preferably.

Y ou need to download the ZOOM app from your app store.

3.

T hen go to the AA meetings list website: aameetings.org.au

Locate the day and time of a meeting you wish to attend.

5.

Find the meeting ID number

6.

Some may require a password

7.

G o to the ZOOM app and enter in the ID ten

minutes before the meeting, and join the m eeting (you may be asked to wait in the virtual waiting room)

WHEN:

3 October 2021 (Sunday of Long W/E); Daylight saving time – 9:30am: Coffee Kick-Off, then 10:00am Start and 4:30pm Close.

TRANSPORT:

Public transport by bus and, if needed, by Rivercat Ferry; Convenient free street parking; light lunches on sale; AA literature for sale.

COST:

Donations of $20 or more most appreciated. Small charge for lunch.

WORKSHOP:

We will be exploring the 12 AA slogans we commonly use, and looking at a broad sample of AA sayings from

a choice of hundreds. Hand-out sheets will be available.

AA Steps & Tradtions

Lunch & Service Several years before I stopped drinking for good, I wanted to learn about the program I heard could fix alcoholics. After looking up the address of the local AA office in the phone book, I decided to pay them a visit. Their office was located in a downtown building I was familiar with, so I got in my car, took a few swigs from my bottle and was on my way.

The office door simply said “AA”. Inside there was a tiny lady sitting at a corner desk typing. I asked her for information about AA. She got up and showed me the literature displays and explained how to use the directory to find an AA meeting. I shuffled around for a while, glanced at a few pamphlets and then asked her why anyone would ever go to AA. “Wait a minute,” she said. She immediately stopped what she was doing at her desk, put her work away, cleared off an area, brought out a sandwich and started eating. Pointing to a chair, she said, “I’m taking my lunch break now. Why don’t you have a seat.” I thought she was a little off her rocker. Then she started telling me her story and how AA had saved her life.

I had no idea at the time, but that’s Tradition Eight. This kind, wonderful, nonprofessional alcoholic service worker was experienced enough to separate her professional work from her Twelfth Step work.

She never knew it until much later, but the short time I spent with this lady was the reason I developed the courage to come into AA years later. I don’t remember the details of her story, but I remember the feeling of hope and recovery she gave me that day.

So whenever I think about this Tradition, I’ll always remember the gift of grace I was given by a lady I’d never met, sitting in a place I’d never been, who was practicing not only the Traditions but the principles of AA to the fullest.

VALE FOR FRED (No Shoes) It causes me great sadness it is to announce the passing of Fred (no shoes) or Freddy (no shoes). In his early days, a member of Riverstone, Mt Druitt and Hawkesbury areas. Fred jumped right into the fellowship and gave a lot back.

Both Fred and his wife Pat (an Alanon member sadly passed), would give up their property at Shane Park to hold combined AA and Alanon Picnic days, with lots of singing and laughing and fellowship. That transitioned into combined AA/Alanon meetings at their home on a Friday night, which lasted for a year.

I was lucky enough to spend time at his place chatting about all sorts of topics. He was a devout “Johnny Cash” fan and we spent many an hour singing and playing guitar to Johnny Cash songs. His favourite was ”Folsom Prison Blues”.

He also took in members (for 30 years or more) who were down on their luck and put them up in a caravan on his property. We all heard how Fred was going to declutter and he tried untold times. It wasn’t from lack of trying that he never managed it.

This was a source of great mirth to all who knew him.

One of Fred’s passions in life was “Camp Quality” and he would hold fetes and boot sales to that end. Fred also loved his wife and family deeply. To myself and may others Fred was a humble, kind hearted man who was a giver, not a taker and very generous of heart and soul. I don’t think any words that I can write would do him justice. A friend, a mentor, an example of living sober. I shall, along with many others, miss him. After Fred’s share from the floor he would always end with…”this is the time, this is the place and we are the people”.

In our area over the past year we have lost Peter (Glenorie), Brian (Richmond) and now Fred. Not just good members of our fellowship, but good members of society.

We all thank you for what you have given….

AA Declaration I am responsible, when anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA to be there.

And for that: I am responsible.

Th e Twe l ve Tr a d i t i o n s of Alcoholics Anonymous 1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon AA unity.

2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority – a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern.

3. The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking.

4. Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or AA as a whole.

5. Each group has but one primary purpose – to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

6. An AA group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the AA name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.

7. Every AA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.

8. Alcoholics Anonymous should remain forever non-professional, but our service centers may employ special workers 9. AA as such, ought never be organised; but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve.

10. Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy.

11. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films.

12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.

PREAMBLE Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are selfsupporting through our own contributions.

AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes.

Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
