Photo: Ashia’s Centre The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre is proud to announce that after successfully undergoing Ashia’s phased wilding process, two female cheetahs were recently released onto Bangweulu Wetlands in Zambia, as part of Ashia’s Release & Reintroduction Program in collaboration with African Parks and the EWT. (Endangered Wild life Trust) The cats, originally from The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre - De Wildt, came to Ashia’s Center in July 2020 to begin their journey. Once ready to leave, they spent time on a pre-release section of our partner Purple Rain in Limpopo to practice their hunting skills, with which they had no problems. Towards the end of last year they took their final journey by plane to Zambia and acclimatized in a boma. A mere 40 minutes after final release onto Bangweulu, they swiftly took down a lechwe! A very promising start. Thanks to Wildlife Vet Dr Willem Burger (AWCF) for ensuring the smooth veterinary work during capture and transport to Zambia, and thank you to Pambele Aviation for a safe flight.
