Happy residents celebrate the repairs on Knob Hall Lane
RESIDENTS on an ‘unadopted’ road peppered with potholes were delighted to win a national repairs competition in the run up to the Platinum Jubilee. Around 20 people living on Knob Hall Lane were so thrilled that they threw an early Platinum Jubilee street party, complete with bunting and celebration cake, to mark the completion of the work. British manufacturer JCB deployed its new ‘pothole fixer’ - the JCB Pothole Pro free of charge to repair the worst of the offending craters, teaming up with Sefton-based civil engineering firm Dowhigh Ltd who provided 10 tonnes of tar-

Street goes potty for Jubilee celebrations! by Danielle Thompson mac free of charge to reinstate the road. Knob Hall Lane residents nominated the street to be repaired in a national competition in the run up to the Platinum Jubilee. Retired head teacher Jane Noble, who has lived on the street with her husband Paul for three years, said: “The potholes were really bad and residents were very
concerned that the state of the road was an accident waiting to happen. “We are all very appreciative of the work JCB has done with the Pothole Pro. Not only has it made a real difference to the safety of the road, it has brought all the residents closer together. “We were all watching the JCB Pothole Pro in action; it created such a lot of interest and really should revolutionise the way potholes are repaired.” Cont. inside

HUGE DRUGS FARM FOUND AT FORMER CARE HOME Report by Danielle Thompson
ONE of the ‘largest and most complex’ cannabis farms found in recent years in Southport was discovered in a drugs bust inside a former care home in the town centre. On Thursday, May 19, officers raided the former Gadsby House assisted living facility on Alexandra Road with a warrant and found 1,277 plants, across 17 rooms. Matt Brown, head of the Merseyside Police Cannabis Dismantling Team said: “Thanks to the vigilance of our officers, an extremely large cannabis farm is no longer putting the community in Southport at risk of fire and flood, as well as violence and criminal exploitation. “We are now carrying out extensive enquiries to find those responsible. “No law-abiding person wants to live next-door to such death traps and we do all we can to make the streets safer. All information helps the work that we do, so make us aware and we’ll be there.” The cannabis and equipment has been destroyed and unused compost left by the growers has been donated to a local charity.
