In the meantime, AI subverts all preexisting imagination in saddles, grips and accessories to accommodate all riding conditions. Saddles with heating and cooling abilities might become basic functionalities. Saddles equipped with more high-tech apparatus such as gyroscopes to monitor the status of rides and the cyclists are winking and waving to us in the near future. Having achieved countless seemingly impossible missions in the past, Velo is now striding towards a future filled with limitless possibilities.

and demand have propelled Velo's constant innovation, with a strong emphasis on reducing carbon emissions as one of its top priorities. Among these, the Angel Revo which won the Taipei Cycle d&i Award 2023 is the best example. It utilizes the latest eco-friendly materials and production processes to minimize environmental impact.
Overheard at almost every industry function has been “What will be the next innovation? What does the future entail?” “Are heated saddles possible? Will smart saddles have more functionalities?” are just two examples from the ever-growing wish list that customers gave to Ann Chen, Vice President of Velo. With this in mind, Ann brainstormed with the Associate Professor of Communications Engineering, Feng Chia University, Jahao, Chen to delineate the possibility of the future saddle.

Heated seats have been a popular option in luxury cars for decades since installing heating chips under the seat cover is not difficult. AI trainer and/or bike fitter, offering suggestions throughout a ride in real-time! From the perspective of a smart, humanistic, and multifunctional saddle, the future can offer various possibilities promising a whole new cycling experience!
Given this scenario, what can we anticipate for the future of smart cycling?

ChatGPT橫空出世後,AI人工智慧的應用進入一個全新維度,影響所及幾乎遍佈生活
『能不能有發熱的坐墊?坐墊能不能具備更 多智慧功能?』維樂總經理陳安榮笑著說自 己不時會聽到客戶的願望清單,因此特別和 逢甲大學通訊工程系的副教授陳家豪腦力激 盪,勾勒了未來坐墊的可能性。
更人性,更多工,更智能將是未來AI科技運 用的主要方向,逢甲大學通訊工程系的副教 授陳家豪強調,通訊工程是透過互聯網進行 訊息互動和轉換的科學,許多運動科學的應 用就立基於此,同樣的,未來的坐墊經過創 新應用,也可以扮演騎乘自行車時, 即時訊 息互動和轉換的最佳工具。
加熱坐墊已經應用在許多精品汽車的配備 中,運用加熱芯片調節坐墊溫度並不是困難 的技術,但如果能夠和騎乘環境及騎乘者的 身體狀態連結,例如騎乘者隨著時間,不同 坡度的體溫變化來進行溫度調節,就呼應了 更人性,更多工,更智能的需求。
時,可以透過手機APP同步接收到地震在橋 樑上觸發的相關資料,透過這些數據不但可 以即時示警,甚至可以透過一個等比例的橋 樑模型,進行未來橋樑地震的相關研究。』
同樣的,陳家豪副教授說, 如果在自行車 的坐墊上透過電路設計和微控制器的整合, 放置陀螺儀或加速度器,就可以透過藍芽通 訊, 同步監控並接收騎乘者在騎行時候的速 度,方向,前後旋轉及傾斜角度,坐墊壓力 等,這些數據和騎乘者的身高,體重,心律 等相關資訊結合分析,不但可以幫助選手在 賽事中更深刻理解並及時調整自己的騎乘狀 態,甚至進一步應用生成式AI,還可以擁有 個人專屬的AI教練或是專屬自行車調整師 Fitter,給予個人最佳騎乘建議!
陳家豪副教授也以自己最近的一個橋樑地震 同步監視儀的研究案來舉例,『我們在橋樑 上安裝陀螺儀和加速器,當有任何地震發生

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY JOURNEY TO ENGLAND
一趟華麗跨域的英倫之旅
Inthis installment of Ann's Voyage, she embarked on a whirlwind trip to England, collaborating with a designer Ray Chu for London Fashion Week. Her journey also included a visit with the world-renowned bike fitter Phil Burt and a stop at Brompton, a longtime partner of Velo. Ann’s time in England was an eye-opening journey of creativity, company culture and relationship between rider and bicycle.
With a personal interesting in all things fashion, Ann was excited to observe the behind-the-scene preparations for London Fashion Week. She actively participated in a photoshoot of Velo saddles on the high streets of London. The sight of models using Velo saddles as handbags and cross-body bags stole the spotlight as the most distinctive accessory at the London Fashion Week. After the shoot, the photography team approached Ann
and asked if she would be interested in modeling a pose with the Velo Prevail Ride saddle, which made its debut at Fashion Week.
“As the saying ‘Different trades, worlds apart’ goes, it sure was not easy being a model. It seemed easy watching those models effortlessly and elegantly walk around and striking a pose. But when it was my turn to turn around and smile holding Velo saddles while walking, my hands and legs often got out of control,” Ann chuckled and wished to remain a fan and a simple observer. Nonetheless, some fabulous photos of Ann showing off the newest edition of the Velo saddle proved her
to be the perfect leader of the brand.
At our core, Velo is committed to continuous improvement, always seeking new ways to refine our processes and product offerings to stay on top of our competitors. The next visit for Ann was up to Manchester to visit world-renowned bike fitter Phil Burt at his lab to learn more about the science of selecting the best saddle. Although it was a brief visit, it proved to be a masterclass in bike fitting and the knowledge gained was invaluable. It started with exchanging some relevant information from Ann. She brought a selection of Velo saddles as options for Phil to properly adjust her riding pos-ture. She has been considered a talented cyclist for her impressive performance in multiple round-island tours in Taiwan. During Ann’s on-bike assessment,

Phil explained the graphs of saddle pressure mapping on the computer and concluded with a smile that Ann distributed all her light body weight evenly on the saddle when she rode which was a good start. Furthermore, her riding posture on the patented Y-cut Angel saddle was optimal.
Burt explained that the physical structure of females results in enduring more pressure than males while cycling. He explained the four important elements when it comes to choosing the correct saddle was pressure, friction, sweat and heat. Friction and pressure are not only the most common factors causing saddle sores while cycling, but also related to riding posture. Therefore, it is vital to figure out the best position for the saddle and riding posture for each individual.
The most overlooked factor was the sweat on the skin. “Imagine there is sweat or water on your skin but

you still need to wear clothing while cycling, your skin would start to swell, become painful, or even rupture. Now, that is detrimental to cyclists. When we were in the army, the sergeants would always demand us to keep our feet dry. When you have to walk for a long time with wet feet, your feet will get hurt easily!” As a result, Burt suggested that cyclists always bring a change of clothes or keep their skin dry. Ann realized that “We used to think it was perfectly normal to sweat when biking and were totally unaware of the harm that sweat brought to
the skin. We never expected that the discomfort in cycling was actually caused by sweat!” To develop waterproof and sweat-wicking saddles and grips might be the next feature points in the future.
As Ann’s journey to England was coming to an end, she wanted to make one more stop at Brompton headquarters, a longtime partner of Velo. Brompton is renowned for their iconic folding bicycles which are designed and manufactured in London. Having been a partner with Velo for many years, their relationship has evolved into one of mutual value and respect.
Ann had the opportunity to speak with Will Butler-Adams OBE, CEO of Brompton in their spacious and
comfortable cafe about the challenges the bicycle industry has encountered in the last few years. The revelations he got after the challenges were facing the problems honestly, incorporating
more clean energy to ensure a more sustainable production process, appreciating employees’ contributions and honoring their demands.
After experiencing the pandemic, Butler-Adams recognized the fragility of life, leading him to cherish it even more and appreciate the importance of savoring every moment spent with family and friends. As a result, he establishes a work environment that makes employees compassionate about their work. “Perhaps being different from Asian thoughts, employees don’t work for me here. Instead, I work for them because their professional knowledge about bike production is much greater than mine. In other words, I hire people smarter than me to work here while my job is to help them finish their work and to support them to accomplish outstanding work!” Butler-Adams said with a smile. Inspired by Butler-Adams approach, Ann commented “Brompton has been one of Velo’s best partners and will continue to be one on the path of sustainable green energy production!”
Despite her packed schedule, Ann was grateful for her journey to England. Her experi-ences at London Fashion Week, a masterclass in bike fitting, and personal discussions about shared challenges and management strategies made this trip truly eye-opening and memorable.
風塵僕僕從德國慕尼黑匯集全球未來科技的 國際車展(IAA Mobility)來到英國倫敦,地 點變了,不變的是滿滿紮實的行程,維樂總 經理陳安榮 Ann得立刻轉換思維,迎接全球 四大時尚週之一倫敦時裝週的來臨,拜訪英 國最大自行車廠Brompton,她還和全球知 名的Bike Fitter菲爾·伯特有約,一個全新 的華麗旅程正在她面前開展。
Ann得空參與這次維樂Velo時裝周前,在 倫敦街頭的拍攝,維樂坐墊成了時裝周最時 髦的配件,讓模特兒或拿或揹在倫敦街頭展 現萬般風情,讓Ann與有榮焉,趁著拍攝結 束的空檔,攝影團隊邀請Ann客串模特兒, 拿起Velo為本次時裝周特製的坐墊,留下 紀錄。
『真的是隔行如隔山,模特兒舉手投足看似 輕鬆,等我自己要邊走路邊拿著我們家的時 髦坐墊,還得回眸一笑的時候,哇,剎那間 還真有點手忙腳亂哩。』Ann輕嘆口氣,直 說還是在旁觀摩輕鬆自在一些,不過Ann的 確也留下好幾張不輸模特兒的專業照片,不 愧是品牌的主理人。

在英國一個難得的晴天午後,Ann來到專業 騎姿調整師菲爾·伯特在曼徹斯特的實驗室, 不只要和菲爾·伯特交流最新產業資訊,還 要接受他的專業調整建議,Ann也帶來維樂 的全系列坐墊,讓菲爾為Ann進行fitting 調整時參考使用,過去Ann被認為是挺有天 份的騎行者,每每在環島騎乘都有不錯的表 現,透過Ann在調整台上的踩踏騎行分析,
菲爾·伯特一邊跟Ann解釋螢幕上不斷變化 的坐墊壓力分佈圖,一邊建議:『你的身型輕 盈,騎行全身重量在坐墊上平均分佈,的確 有先天騎乘的優勢,也很適合維樂創新專利 有Y Cut的Angel 系列坐墊。』菲爾·伯特笑 著說。
菲爾·伯特強調,自行車騎乘時,女性的生理 構造使她們承受的生物力學壓力比男性多, 選擇坐墊時,有四個因素非常重要,那就是 壓力,摩擦,汗水及熱。摩擦和壓力通常是 造成臀部疼痛的原因,摩擦和壓力不只和坐 墊有關,也和整體騎乘姿勢有關,所以找到 適當的坐墊位置及踩踏騎行的姿勢很重要。
不過最常被忽略的應該是皮膚上的汗水因 素,『想想看如果你的皮膚上有汗水或水, 你還必須穿著車服,車褲進行長時間的騎乘 時,你的皮膚會變得紅腫,疼痛甚至破裂, 這是非常要命的!我們在軍中受訓時,班長 都會要求我們的雙腳一定要保持乾燥,當你 的腳都是汗水,又要長時間行走,雙腳就容 易受傷!』因此菲爾·伯特強調,騎行時最好 要經常更換車服,或保持通風讓皮膚保持乾 燥,這一點也令Ann恍然大悟,『大家平常 都覺得騎自行車流汗很正常,真的都沒注意 到汗水對皮膚帶來的傷害, 原來以前騎車的 不舒服是汗水造成的,今天真的長知識了!』 Ann笑著說,未來也許可以針對防水排汗的 坐墊或手握材質進行更深入的研究及開發。

fashion designers all over the world to herald environmentalism. Velo’s “trendy cycling and green fashion” initiative entices fashion enthusiasts to fall in love with trendy cycling by being in love with astounding cycling accessories. Hours before the opening, people circle the streets waiting to witness the rising Taiwanese fashion designer, Ray Chu’s debut in London Fashion Week has to do with this event’s tradition.
Established in 1983, London Fashion Week is one of four major fashion shows in the world. As the newest international fashion showcase, it embraces avant-garde, unconventional, and experiential budding international fashion designers to demonstrate their fantastic innovations to fellow designers and even royalty. By breaking tradition and becoming the first to showcase online to the general public, the London Fashion Week challenges itself to be even more visionary, going beyond the usual invitees of journalists, distinguished guests, and fashion buyers.
Ann Chen, CEO of Velo, got the idea to showcase Velo in London Fashion Week advocating “trendy cycling and green fashion”. “As a fashion aficionado, attending the London Fashion Week is of course my dream come true. Since producing superb sustainable saddles has always been one of the essential missions of Velo, working with Ray Chu who highlights oceanology was actually effortless!”

“45 years ago, Founder and Chairwoman, Stella Yu, established Velo when she was 30 years of age. Being 45 this year, while 5 years shy of Velo, I will be 10 years behind the Founder. Ann accentuates that Velo is fully committed to sustainability by using more recycled materials and reusing as many waste materials as possible. Velo did carbon inventory voluntarily, purchased PCR/GRS certified materials, reduced petroleumbased materials, and installed solar panels and smart electricity meters to reduce energy consumption. In addition, Velo creates a friendly workplace and maintains an amicable relationship between employees and the management to implement ESG strategies.
While facing challenges, Ann feels lucky because she stands on the giant’s shoulders - the Founder and Chairwoman, Stella Yu. In addition to founding Velo from scratch and guiding Ann along the way, Stella Yu delineates Velo’s future by insisting on excellent quality, sustainable environmental awareness, professional designs and visionary trends as core values. We joined the Bicycle Alliance for Sustainability (BAS) in Taiwan to work with other bicycle enterprises to cut down on carbon emissions. We achieved our goal to cut down 40kg of carbon emissions or at least 25% during the process of producing each bicycle.”

While the cycling industry worldwide strives to tackle issues of excess inventory post-pandemic, the cycling community in Taiwan is coming together and marching forward. Emerging in response to the global warming crisis, the Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability (BAS) was established by the Giant Group with the aim of collectively safeguarding our planet through the implementation of ESGs (Environmental, Social, and Governance practices). “After discussion, all members agreed to take up the somewhat difficult challenge to
complete greenhouse gas inventory within two years and reduce annual single-product carbon footprint by 3% to reach the final goal in 2030 when the carbon emissions of each cycle are reduced by either 25% or 40 kg!” said the Chairman of BAS and CEO of Giant Group, Young Liu.
“ESGs are such eye-openers for me. Searching for cheaper materials was the only way we knew how to cut costs before. But now we realize that retiring energy-burning machinery and/or improving layout design will also cut
down the energy consumption. During the first year after we upgraded our facility, the carbon emissions were reduced by 17.7%! What a stunning result that was!” Young Liu shared the encounter he had years ago when China grappled with the challenges of air and environmental pollution. The lesson he learned was “one has to think ahead of the government policies and take whatever actions properly early while the costs are still low. Once the regulations have been passed, you have to pay a much higher price to meet the requirement!”

Armed with both experience and vision, the Giant Group was not only voted the Chairman of the BAS but also ranked 51st in the global sustainable industry by the World Economic Forum in 2023. The recognition inspired every member of BAS to participate in ESG workshops, leading to more than 90% of them initiating the process of measuring their carbon footprints. With the enforcement of carbon tariffs by the EU, the cycling industry have strengthened their bonds, forming a tighter-knit community than ever before. Apart from the enterprise's future and profit margin, Young Liu said “Even if not for the company, following ESGs would have been totally worthwhile for my own sake! It wouldn’t mean anything if the return of such a huge revenue turns out to be such a polluted earth!” In addition to these company initiatives, the Giant Group also organizes beachcleaning family functions throughout the year.
ESGs are challenges to enterprises in reducing carbon emissions, and yet also serve as the drive that enables the enterprises to break through. Young Liu continuously ponders innovative solutions for the cycling industry within the framework of ESG principles. Do all the current solutions such as smart riding, second-hand cycles, share-bikes, recycled batteries, power and welfare of the employees provide a more environmentally friendly possibility?
Are there more alternatives? Liu embraces the challenges with a smile “With an open mind and open brain, we are prepared to face all challenges and the innovations and opportunities behind these challenges.”

『其實開始執行永續經營 ESG 以後,真的 讓我們腦洞大開,打開全新思維,以前我 們只知道要在材料上不斷壓縮來降低成本, 後來才發現,原來更新老舊耗能的機械設 備,或是改變空間設計的配置,就可以在 生產過程中節能省電,我們更新設備後第 一年就省下了 17.7% 的碳排放量,成效驚 人 ! 』劉湧昌談到過去也曾經面臨一波中國 政府雷厲風行執行降低空氣及環境污染的 要求,從那次經驗中他學到:『你一定要走 在政策前面,該做的事情早點做,成本才 會低,不然當後面被要求的時候,付出的 代價更高更大 ! 』
經驗加上遠見,巨大集團不僅在自行車永 續聯盟 BAS 擔任領頭羊,也在瑞士世界經 濟論壇公布的 2023 年『全球百大永續企業 排行牌」,從 6720 家企業脫穎而出,獲選 全球第 51 名的永續企業,這不但是個榮 耀,也激勵了 BAS 聯盟的成員們齊心邁 進,第一年上完 ESG 課程後,進行碳盤查 的 BAS 成員高達近九成,在歐盟率先開徵 碳關稅後,全球自行車產業鏈中的每一個 環節,每一個公司都成為生命共同體,這 不僅攸關企業生存或商機,巨大集團執行 長劉湧昌感慨的說:『ESG 不為公司,為自 己做都應該啊,賺那麼多錢,把地球環境 污染成這樣,賺這些錢一點意義都沒有啊 ! 』這也是巨大號召員工及家屬進行淨灘活動 的初衷。
因應全球暖化危機的 ESG,是企業致力淨 零減碳的挑戰卻也是打通任督二脈的驅動 力,誠如劉湧昌所說,揮舞著 ESG 大旗下 的自行車產業可以有什麼樣的創新思維? 除了持續發展的智慧騎行,循環再利用的 二手自行車,共享單車甚至回收電池,還 有公司員工的權力與福祉,是不是都能創 造另一個更友善更環保的可能性?劉湧昌 笑著說:『把腦袋打開,把心敞開,我們準 備好迎接所有挑戰,以及挑戰背後所帶來 的創新與轉機 ! 』

WillButler-Adams OBE, the CEO of the biggest bicycle manufacturer in the U.K., Brompton, is an open-minded and sincere leader who is passionate about sustainability. Brompton factory is also deeply rooted in an open, sincere and sustainability-oriented culture.
Founded in 1976, Brompton has been manufacturing their bicycles in England. The folding bikes not only changed how people move about in the city, but also the design itself is the epitome of the bicycle industry. Skilled workers weld frames by hand in the expansive and cozy
assembly line located in Greenford, which serves as both the headquarters and manufacturing hub. The workers’ ID numbers branded on the finished frames are not unlike the “We Take Pride” plaque hanging on the wall that signifies proof of quality and honor.
During the pandemic, Brompton went through an ordeal and rose like a phoenix from the ashes. “The Emperor’s New Clothes is an inspiring parable and it is imperative to speak the truth in Brompton. At the beginning of the pandemic, we didn’t think much of it because we thought 聚焦95%潛在商機

it would not last long. But when all of Europe went into lockdown and the sales plummeted 60-70% within three weeks, we were scared, honestly speaking.”
Facing the problem honestly is how Will Butler-Adams got Brompton through the initial frozen period at the beginning of the pandemic. The pandemic sparked a surge in health consciousness among the general public, leading to a global increase in bike demand. When the supply was much greater than the demand and there was a tsunami of stock, Brompton was already prepared for it. “When we saw less than expected demands from the retailers and e-commerce channels, we realized that we needed to stop selling on those platforms. We sought understanding from the suppliers and made the painful decision to let some people go and apply for loans from the bank. Fortunately, we made it through.” Will Butler-Adams recounted the roller-coaster ride he went through during the pandemic with lingering uneasiness.
Planning our outlook with ESGs in mind, cycling is one of the most sustainable living styles no doubt. Will Butler-Adams asked us a question out of nowhere “Do you know the cycling population in Taipei? I mean those who cycle 2-3 times a week?” “30%?” we replied with hesitation. “Less than 5%. It’s 4.5% in London, which is about the average figure worldwide.”
5% population who cycle regularly yet leave the 95% of potential customers unattended. “Mass transit tools such as trains, MRT, and buses all use up a great deal of energy. However, a bicycle of nearly 10 kg can take us everywhere in the city, and better yet, it is the best choice for us to combat global warming. Our chances lie on those 95% population who already know how to cycle but have not yet decided to cycle.”
Brompton strategically locates its retail stores near residential areas to engage with the community. This approach ensures people are aware of the various cycling options available, including their UK-wide bike hire service.
“We need to put the bike industry into a whole new perspective, which is to become the leader of global climate change so as to solve the biggest predicament on earth now!” Will Butler-Adams says with a smile.

Ona pleasant June evening, eager attendees stood in long queues anxiously awaiting entrance to London Fashion Week. The emerging Taiwanese fashion designer, Ray Chu, exudes a mix of anxiety and excitement, coupled with a subtle sense of relaxation. As the audience settles within the venue adorned with drifting white balloons, Ray Chu basks in the continuous buzz of exclamations, photography, and praise, eventually breaking into a smile.
In his third consecutive year showcasing at London Fashion Week, Ray Chu displays his remarkable talent with unwavering brilliance. Reflecting on a pivotal moment, the memory of his first show at the prestigious event fills him with joy. "I jumped up and down, screaming ecstatically when I received the notice. I made it! I finally made it!" Ray shares with a radiant smile and gleaming eyes.
It's surprising to think that Ray chose English Education as his major during his university years. His path
diverged unexpectedly when he signed up for sewing and illustration classes in the extension section, ushering in a completely new chapter in his life. Since then, he has acquired expertise in fashion design, contributed to research and development for a Taiwanese brand, ventured to Shanghai as an international buyer and eventually established his own label. Throughout his fantastical odyssey in the realm of fashion, despite facing numerous challenges, Ray's vibrant creativity has yielded profound and diverse works emphasizing gender fluidity and sustainable fashion.
To unfold all possibilities is one of Ray’s core values. Establishing a presence in the fashion industry is a challenging feat without the support of a family business. Grateful for the guidance and wisdom provided by mentors, Ray's designs seamlessly merge edgy avantgarde elements with everyday charm.
As the director of his own label, Ray asserts “During the London Fashion Week, everyone is asking about the background of designers. So I would like to build up an attitude with my works to create a fluid energy, fluid social classes, fluid gender, fluid environmentally sustainable fashion, fluid new media and materials…”
His past role as a buyer bestowed upon him a keen and pragmatic understanding of market demands, a quality that resonates effectively in his designs. This year at the London Fashion Week, Ray's remarkable creations draw inspiration from the ocean, showcasing the delicate yet resilient Manta Ray. He unveiled clothing adorned with 3D-printed manta rays, showcasing his signature silhouette suits, vibrant red VELO t-shirts and casually stylish denim embellished with chic accessory accents. “Manta rays in 3D printing is a brand-new design, it takes numerous trials and fine-tuning to show the delicate bone structure clearly. I juxtapose perforated and linear patterns in the suits for the next season, while the VELO shirts entail a brand-new possibility. Other than being goodlooking, I hope the consumers can wear my clothing every day. To me, the real success is when my clothing fits in all occasions in people’s daily lives.”

In2020, the acclaimed fashion buyer Jazzy founded SSSAINT LOUIS, a distinctive brand in its own right. As a Gen Y, Jazzy is always inquisitive about all things new. He reminisced of when he was in middle school during the pre-internet era where he could only study how Japanese and Hong Kong models and celebrities dressed in magazines. Initially, he merely observed, bought and replicated the styles of those celebrities. Over time, he evolved into an experienced buyer and ultimately ascended to the posi-tion of styling director for the renowned Chinese variety show “The Singers”.

Having been a connoisseur of international retro single-item collectibles from an early stage, Jazzy incorporated his own unique retro style to his brand. As a fashion buyer, he would only place orders after he was involved in multiple fashion weeks to

Street liberal and elegant retro charm is Jazzy's interpretation of his fashionable vintage designs. Every hand-crafted single item is susceptible to ink fade, wear and tear, and deterioration. As Sid Garner says in the movie Hangover, "Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” Jazzy portrays the potential scenarios unfolding late night in bars and dance floors on the canvas of VANS shoes. In this collaboration with VANS, he adds vibrant splashes of color to the shoes, sym-bolizing the chaotic hangover sentiment and deliberately rips the surface to accentuate the feeling of sudden loss experienced late at night in Sin City. COCO,the creator of XIAO'S JEWELRY has constantly shown passion and proficien-cy in all kinds of handicrafts. Her background in advertising has offered her limitless inspiration, making the transition to a jewelry designer feel remarkably natural. Howev-er, she recognized the importance of establishing a strong foundation in materials and the production process.
COCO dedicated four years to mastering a range of metalwork techniques, including inlay, grinding, polishing, wax carving and plating. She even traveled to Guizhou specifically to acquire knowledge of the thousand-year-old traditional filigree technique.
COCO's first metal work was exceptionally meaningful since it was inspired by the wall graffiti done by her then 3-year-old daughter. “It was so naive and yet so imagina-tive at the same time. As a mother, I would like to keep this moment forever!” The in-spiration for the "Scratching Monsters" jewelry series was born from this experience.
Unbeknownst to her, this marked the beginning of a new series in the
jewelry line, co-designed through the collaboration of parents and children’s graffiti. After she shared her Scratching Monsters online, many mothers brought their children's graffiti to her and the rest was history. These Scratching Monsters not only established herself as a designer but also brought her future customers and built her reputation. Since then, she found her special niche: the most unique and personal impressions into jewelry.
COCO summarized her approach to meeting customer demands in a single character—Xiao, her first name, which signifies “aware of.” “The advantage of custom-made jew-elry is that customers can make any demand as they please. When the customers were not aware of what they wanted, I would figure out what they wanted when we chatted or even think further than the customers.”
A customer from Hong Kong insisted on a in-person conversation with COCO. He ex-plained that despite meeting with several designers previously, he was never given a design that met his satisfaction. After a long, detailed discussion, COCO designed an elegant ring featuring two hands held together. This ring contributed to the success of his carefully planned wedding proposal at the foothill of Mt. Fuji. The customer was thrilled COCO was able to capture his thoughts and motivation from their conversation.
Another customer from Taiwan wanted to turn his heirloom amber into a jewelry piece. During their conversation, COCO realized how affectionate he was toward
the tea mountain at the back of his ancestor's home. With that detail, COCO made the amber into the tea mountain with decorations of a gold bridge and a courtyard. By positioning the gold bridge in a hole in the amber, COCO covered the blemish with a tiny amount of gold to recreate the customer's favorite tea mountain of his childhood home. When the customer received the pendant, he was highly impressed by how well it captured the essence of the tea mountain from his memories.
COCO says, “In essence, to customize jewelry is to search for the idiosyncrasy that on-ly belongs to none other than self.” Behind each piece of jewelry are life stories and beautiful memories of the customer. Combining personal elements into the design is the key to creating the most unique jewelry. “I believe in the plasticity of life. Similar to gold, regardless of the final state it turns out to be, it will always shine through brightly.”
「曉飾記」首飾品牌創辦人COCO胡曉向來熱 衷手做,心靈手巧的她總能輕鬆掌握各種手 工藝,加上資深廣告人的經歷,讓她創意泉 湧。因此,成為珠寶設計師對她來說似乎是 一件水到渠成的事。她唯一欠缺的是珠寶材 質和製作工藝的了解。因此她花了四年時間 學習鑲嵌、打磨、拋光、蠟雕、電鍍等各種 金工工藝。甚至為了學習上千年歷史的傳統 技藝「花絲」,還專程到貴州尋找工藝傳承人 拜師 。
COCO的第一件正式作品意義非凡,靈感來 自她三歲女兒在牆上的塗鴉。 「很有童趣, 又充滿想像力。身為一位母親,我很想留住 這個瞬間!」於是這套名為「搔癢怪獸」的首飾 誕生了。
沒想到這次即興創作,意外開創「親子塗鴉」 這一全新的首飾類別!2016年時,當她在 網路上分享這套首飾後,吸引許多媽媽帶著 自己孩子的塗鴉找上了她,這套《搔癢怪獸》 成為了她珠寶設計師生涯的敲門磚,也為她 積累了客戶資源和口碑。從此,COCO找到 了自己的方向:將有個人印記的、與眾不同 的東西化成飾品。
如何滿足客戶需求,COCO歸結為一個「曉」 字。她的品牌就叫「曉飾記」,「曉」是她的名字, 有知曉、知道的意思。「訂制的好處就是客人 可以隨意提要求。有時候客戶可能不曉得他
要什麼,我就會在聊天時挖掘他的內心想法, 甚至幫他多想一步」。
之前有一位香港客戶強烈要求與COCO見面 談,原來是這位客人曾找過其他設計師,卻 始終設計不出他想要的款式。在深談了解客 人想法後,COCO為他設計了一枚雙手環抱 形狀的戒指,幫助他在富士山下求婚成功。 客人高興地說感覺自己隔著螢幕就被COCO 看穿了。

WEEKLY
SPORTS is one of the hottest communities in Shanghai. Established within just two years, this community has expanded to include over ten thousand members and has organized a wide array of activities, including outdoor cycling, urban camping, extreme frisbee, flag football, baseball, hockey, pickleball, and more.
Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises. Initially, a few friends shared images of their weekly sports gatherings on Xiaohongshu (a popular social media platform in China) and named their group WEEKLY SPORTS. The captivating moments of happiness shared on social media drew the attention of many people, leading them to express their desire to join the group. The newly formed group experienced exponential growth, expanding its size hundreds of times within a span of two years!
Fueled by their passion for exercise, Katrina and Gary, the main leaders of this community, gathered like-minded friends in their free time and the results were unbelievable. Together, they effectively manage this diverse community and encourage trying new sports. “A wide variety of sports available is one of the reasons people like WEEKLY SPORTS,” Katrina says. “There are many sporting communities out there, and most of them focus on one single sport such as jogging or basketball. It is not easy to find such an inclusive sports community that offers so many different kinds of sports activities. Skiing is the new addition this year and rock climbing will be added next year!”
Gary thinks that another reason why WEEKLY SPORTS has become so popular in such a short time was because 95% of the members were born after 1995. It is easier for people of similar ages to find common interests and become friends. In addition, there are compelling incentives for individuals to join the community, as Katrina and Gary successfully secured prominent brands like Adidas and New Balance to contribute products for participants. The professional frisbee team even got a company to sponsor their equipment. Katrina says “My goal is that this community will keep expanding so that more people enjoy exercising, and fall in love with it!”

If custom-tailored apparel represents the pinnacle of fashion, then handmade bicycles emerge as the coveted treasures in the cycling world. Sihow-Yah gained widespread acclaim when he personally built a custom bicycle for NBA player Kevin Durant. In addition to crafting unique tailor-made bicycles for customers, he spearheads the Light House Frame Building school, where he imparts knowledge on constructing bicycles from scratch. His aspiration is to empower a broader audience to engage in the art of handcrafting bicycles.
Having struggled for decades to find a bicycle that accommodated his 180 cm body type, Yah identified a niche in the area of custom handmade bicycles. Yah, a graduate of an art academy, seamlessly blends aesthetics with functionality in every one of his custom projects. Each meticulously handcrafted bicycle is priced between 60 to 150 thousand NTD ($2,000-$5,000 USD), resembling a tailored suit in its personalized appearance, colors and engraved initials. Taking into account factors such as the rider's height, arm length and riding preferences, the possibilities for variations are limitless, ensuring each bicycle becomes a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

The ambient light from the expansive window creates captivating shadows on the wall, transforming the frames, tires and tools suspended like art pieces. Yah teaches his students by guiding them through the intricate process of designing, selecting materials, cutting, soldering, adjusting, polishing, surfacing and spray painting the bicycle frame from scratch. Despite being crafted from only two triangular steel tubes, the frame stands as the essential core and soul of the bicycle. Yah instructs his students to discover their most comfortable riding posture through bike fitting. Once the student inputs this data into Yah's program, the computer calculates and determines the ideal geometry that suits them best.
Yah made a name for himself for his elegant taste that has been well-received and venerated by his friends. When one of his close friends requested a custom dinner table, Yah embraced the challenge, applying his skills honed in hand crafting bicycles. Transforming the familiar steel tubes used in bicycle construction into gracefully curved legs for the table, he produced a piece that garnered great admiration. Perhaps Yah has conjured yet another peak in craftsmanship.

身高180公分的葉士豪,早年因騎到不合體型的自行車痛苦萬分, 卻也讓葉士豪看到機會,率先投入單車工藝。學美術出身的葉士豪 認為,單車不應只看機能,也要注重品味。一部價值6~15萬元 的手工訂製單車,不只是客製外型、刻上名字或漆上喜好顏色而已, 更重要的是按個人需求,從材料裁切開始量身製造,「更像是訂製 西裝」!因應騎士身長、手長及喜好騎行方式,量身打造的手工單 車,可謂變化萬千,獨一無二。
穿著淺丹寧襯衫、牛仔褲搭配復古草編紳士帽,葉士豪即使在燒焊 中,仍然舉止優雅。工作坊的大開窗引進大片光線照射,使牆上懸 掛的車架、車輪和工具看起來像收藏品。葉士豪在這裏引導學生從 設計、選擇材料、裁切、燒焊、調校、磨平拋光、表面處理到塗裝, 獨立完成手工單車的靈魂-「車架」 !雖然車架只是管材組成的幾何 型,卻是單車最重要的成敗關鍵。學員透過Bike Fitting,找到最 舒適的騎乘姿勢後,將數據輸入電腦精密計算後,就能製作出適合 自已的手工單車。

Asthe night falls, a gentle, warm orange lamp quietly illuminates Shatian Road in Dadu District, Taichung City. Passersby are frequently drawn to the delectable artisan desserts displayed in a small glass cabinet, often choos-ing to take a bit of sweetness home with them. Peko welcomes her favorite time of the day, observing customers entering her bike shop to bring home meticulously crafted, gracefully balanced desserts— just sweet enough to help them unwind from their hectic routines.
As an entrepreneur, Peko was exhausted during the pandemic. In her efforts to rejuvenate, she delved into various pursuits and rediscovered her passion for baking. Noticing that many store bought cakes were overly sweet, Peko chose to adjust the recipes and resumed her baking endeavors. Rekindling her love for desserts and receiving appreciation from friends emboldened her to daringly venture back into entrepreneurship.
Constrained by a tight budget, Peko opted to operate her business using a bicycle. While placing significant importance on the brand image, she was actively engaged in every aspect of customizing her bike, including its ap-pearance, color, functionality and storage space. In 2022, she embarked on her new entrepreneurial journey, "THEONE," pedaling a black retro bicycle filled with delightful desserts.
W ith a firm commitment to ingredient quality, Peko not only selected the finest ingredients but also conducted numerous trials before finalizing her reci-pes. As a result, her rose lemon tarts and Basque cheesecakes became highly sought after.

In addition to making irresistible desserts, Peko aimed to bring more positive energy to people's lives. As the French writer Marcel Proust, once said, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in hav-ing new eyes.” Peko considered finding a space where she could flourish, sharing a dessert corner as impactful as a bookshelf.
Peko always manages to have a set of rainbow cards available to offer her customers some words of wisdom. She invites her customers to close their eyes, ponder an issue and pick a card with their non-dominant hands. Peko hopes the uplifting power of positive words brings joy to people much like her artisan desserts do.

改造單車上的泰式漫遊滋味
Many individuals encounter obstacles in pursuing their entrepreneurial aspirations due to the exorbitant expenses associated with renting and renovating spaces. As a result, the economical option of utilizing customized bicycles effortlessly navigating the city has emerged as an alternative for entrepreneurs to showcase and market their products. Having worked in sales, Lin Junyan decided to plunge into his dream of being an entrepreneur five years ago when he encountered a bottleneck in his career. After some careful planning, Junyan embarked on a new adventure cruising through the streets of Taichung using his modified e-bike offering Thai cuisine.
Taking a bold step beyond his comfort zone, Lin courageously pursued the dream of a lifetime. Passionate about Thai culture and cuisine, he decided to bring authentic Thai food to Taiwan. Visiting Thailand two more times before launching his business, he studied the core essence of Thai cuisine and decided to embark on his new chapter of life on his customized e-bike.
Lin says his rear hub motor electric bike is easier to maneuver than the traditional front-loading cargo tricycle. Not only the turning radius is smaller, but his view is wide open without any obstruction. Furthermore, the best feature is that the electric bike and the creamy orange colored cart, Dongshiyi are detachable. So, whenever he encounters a small vending space, he can operate with only the cart while parking his bike somewhere nearby.
This detachable design makes his e-bike double as a business apparatus and for daily transportation. The round LED headlight and motorcycle saddle make this e-bike more like a petite motorcycle rather than a bicycle. Even though the maximum speed of this bike is only 26km per hour, its high torque makes it really powerful in riding uphill along with an adequate 60km battery capacity.

Description: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart. Flip the left palm facing the earth and move the left elbow to the back of the torso. In the meantime, the right hand facing up and extend the right arm to the left side while the torso remains facing the front. Exert force from the waist to retract the right arm all the way to one’s back while extending the left arm to the right side.
male came to Yipin Tang Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in Fengyuan because he felt prickly and numbness in his hands. He described how three hours into the cycling race around Sun Moon Lake (~30 kilometers in), he began experiencing numbness and sharp tingling sensations in his ring and pinky fingers. Afterwards, he found it difficult to grasp heavy objects with his hands. Dr. Chang Yung-Ming diagnosed his symptoms as Cyclist’s Palsy or Ulnar Neuropathy. The prolonged pressure exerted on the sides of his hands from gripping the handlebars during the race was what led to the numbness and pins-and-needles sensations he experienced.
Director Chang explained that the continuous vibrations experienced during cycling affect cyclists' palms and wrists, leading to increased pressure on the Ulnar Nerves. In addition, maintaining extended wrist positions for prolonged periods while cycling can induce inflammation in the Ulnar Nerves, potentially requiring several months to heal if the condition worsens.
The affected area in question was part of the Arm Yang Small Intestine and Triple Warmer Meridians. The inflammation of that area caused the qi to be blocked and blood flow circulation were compromised. Following treatment with a topical heating pad, acupuncture, and cupping, efforts were made to relieve the discomfort stemming from tight muscle groups and connected tendons extending from the fingers and wrists to the arms, shoulders, and neck. Having been practicing the traditional Chinese wellbeing-promoting exercise Yijing jing for over two decades, Director Chang recommended the young athlete the following two exercises as part of his physical therapy to accelerate healing and prevent a recurrence of the issue.

Function: With fingers loosened and relaxed in the shape of a dragon’s claw with the arm positioned at the back of the torso, this posture will relax the tightened and compressed ulnar nerve. In addition, the lateral sides of the neck muscle groups and shoulder trapezius muscle are extended and relaxed while looking to the sides.
The 5th Yijin Jing exercise, Pulling 9 Oxen’s Tails
Description: Extend both arms straight to shoulder height in a 45º direction and hold your fingers together in a fist. At the same time, the right leg takes a step in a 45º direction forward with the knee bent while the left leg is kept straight. Return to the center standing straight with both arms by the thighs and feet close to each other. Repeat the posture on the other side.
Function: Holding fists tight as if pulling oxen’s tails will relax the tightened muscles from the fingers, wrists, and arms gradually, and then the muscles will get back to their neutral position. The centrally fixed head relaxes neck and shoulder muscle groups gently, softens the stiff neck, and releases the muscle groups into their original states.

張永明院長表示,騎士長時間騎行,由地面傳導到自行車的連續震 動,反覆撞擊騎士的手掌到手腕而加重尺神經壓迫。加上手部緊抓 手握把時,手腕角度過度伸展上揚,牽扯到尺神經,造成神經發炎。 嚴重的尺神經病變,需要數週到數個月才能恢復。
騎士手麻痺患部屬於手太陽小腸經和手少陽三焦經的循行部位經氣 阻滯,氣血運行不暢,先在相關部位熱敷,針灸和拔罐,緩解頸部、 肩胛部和手腕部位肌肉群與韌帶緊繃卡壓。最後勤練中國古傳養生 功法「易筋經」廿餘年的張永明院長,還教導患者練習易筋經中的「青 龍探爪」與「倒拽九牛尾勢」兩式,避免再度復發。

功效:藉由手掌撐開如龍爪,向後屈伸展,緩解尺神經壓迫,頭頸 部則左右擺動拉伸肩胛肌肉,緩解頸部肌肉僵硬。
《易筋經》第五式:倒拽九牛尾勢
心法:右手從腰眼離開,微向下屈,順勢變成陽掌向右前方抄去, 與肩相平,五指撮攏,右腿呈前弓步,左手同時放下向左後方抄去。 接著動作於前面相同,左右互換。
功效:藉由雙手緊握,如抓住牛尾巴之狀,使手臂肌肉歸位放鬆。

to each client's unique physical situation and adapt to the mass-produced bicycles makes Phil the leading expert in his field. He emphasizes that as one gets old, even the lifestyle is different. Some are macro-absorbers who are malleable to different kinds of bicycles and even those that are actually not suitable to them. On the other hand, there are micro-adjusters who are highly sensitive to any change in their bicycles. Macro-absorbers and microadjusters are two extremes of the spectrum while most of the majority of people fall somewhere in between.
Take saddles for example. Phil Burt founded the first saddle health clinic in the world and made extraordinary contributions to the sport. His innovative research in saddles pushed the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) to change their rule on saddle tilt. Furthermore, during the Rio 2016 Olympics, Team Great Britain’s female cyclists reduced their saddle injuries by 100%.
Now, when Phil receives cyclists in his clinic, he asks the following questions: What are your goals for finetuning your riding positions? Are you aiming to become a competitive cyclist within a short term or long term? Or do you simply want to enjoy cycling outdoors with your family on weekends? When you ride, do your knees hurt or experience any saddle sores? A proficient bike fitter can achieve optimal adjustments when they have a thorough understanding of the cyclist's preferences, utilizing their professional expertise and scientific knowledge. In the meantime, Phil offers a more effective way for cyclists wanting to find the most suitable riding positions for themselves. Before engaging on the journey, they should write down all the parameters that could affect their cycling experiences, such as saddles, shoes, pedals, and riding positions. By tweaking a single parameter at a time, cyclists can easily discern which factor has the most significant impact on their performance, allowing them to continue enjoying their cycling experience.

OnJune 12, 2023, Canadian cyclist Robert Murray set a new Guinness World Record by completing the longest hand-free bike ride, covering a distance of 130.29 km (80.95 miles) in 5 hours and 37 minutes. Murray said that he finds hand-free biking considerably more comfortable than the conventional method of hunching down to grip the handlebars. He can send texts, change songs, or reach for stuff in his backpack while cycling hand-free. "It's like second nature to me," he says. During the final hour, Murray experienced numbness in his lower body, but he managed to alleviate the discomfort by massaging his legs, thanks to the freedom of his hands. Murray used this record attempt as an opportunity to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary.

Afun and charming Tweed Run was organized in central London on a cold February day. As the title suggests, participants were required to wear retro cycling attire such as wool plus fours, tweed jackets, cravats, sporty bowler hats for the gents, cycling skirts and cycling capes for the ladies. Of course, velocipedes were highly welcomed but not required. In addition to raising awareness for environmental protection, the organizers hope that these events will revive a sense of classy, elegant living in our modern, busy lives. Back in 2009, about 300 tweedclad cyclists rode along Savile Row, the street famous for bespoke tailoring for men and imposing landmarks such as the headquarters of the Royal Geographical Society for nearly three centuries. Today, participation in this event has become one of the most sought-after annual sporting events in London. Similar events are now held in other cities globally from Japan to Amsterdam. It is such an incredible experience cycling in vintage attire with hundreds of bikes through well-preserved streets and alleys to enjoy the fantastic way of living.
According to a research article published by the University of Southern Denmark on the Communications Earth & Environment, if everyone on earth just rode a bicycle 2.6 km like the Dutch, carbon emissions would be cut down by 700 million tons annually. This is nearly equivalent to carbon emissions of the entire country of Canada. Cycling friendly countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark offer well-planned comprehensive infrastructures for cyclists to make it much easier for people to transition from driving private cars to cycling. Ibeganmy cycling journey in Cuba when I was thirteen, attending a sports initiation cycling class. Before that, at the age of twelve, my sister taught me how to ride a bicycle. I would spend my days studying academics, and as soon as classes were over, we would rush to the training sessions. Due to limited resources, there weren’t enough bikes for everyone, so we had to focus on improving our skills and dexterity. Each training was followed by a three-kilometer walk home. Despite the scarcity of bikes and equipment, learning to ride a bike was an incredibly enjoyable experience for me.
Having limited resources at home, I didn't fully understand the potential financial benefits that cycling could bring to my family. I simply did it for fun. My mother would work tirelessly to buy used bicycles for my sister and me. However, she eventually sold them due to concerns about the dangers we faced riding at such high speeds around town. Once again, I found myself without a bike.
I continued with my cycling lessons after school, and eventually, we started participating in municipal and provincial events. From there, I managed to qualify for my firstever national school games. It was a challenge to assemble a complete bicycle to compete on, but we made it happen with used parts we collected. Despite the challenges, I persisted and made it happen.
Afterward, I competed in another national championship, winning all the events, which led to my selection for the Cuban National Team. Being a part of the team meant living, studying, and training at a school dedicated to our sport. The school housed various sports disciplines, such as tennis and baseball, and we drew inspiration from one another. I rarely returned home, only making the trip once a month, sometimes not even then. I needed to excel and become one of the top four athletes in Cuba, as this would enable me to travel and provide financial support for my family.
With determination, focus, and persistence, I was on my way to achieving my goals. By the age of 17, I had already competed in several events at the Junior Pan American Games and the Junior World Championships. From then on, I dedicated myself to doing my best to travel to international competitions.
I pursued a degree in “physical culture,” equivalent to an athletic trainer. I studied and trained with the sole purpose of being able to support my family. I dedicated myself to intense training and competitive racing, but it never felt enough. There was always at least one plate of food missing on the table.
I continued to push and eventually won several Pan American Championships. I was honored to represent Cuba in the Olympics, finishing in 7th and 8th place in London and Rio, respectively. In 2018, I joined the U.S-based UCI team Twenty20, and together, we traveled to Australia to compete in the Santos Tour Down Under, Cadel Road Race, and Jayco Sun Tour.

In 2019, I gave birth to my daughter, Marieth. At that time, I decided to take a break from cycling, thinking it would mark the end of my career. Five months later, I found myself back on the bike training. I began applying to different teams, but they didn’t want a new mother on their teams. Fortunately, Nicola Cranmer, who had stayed in touch with me throughout my pregnancy, suggested that I join her team. Taking her advice, I traveled to America to meet Nicola and won my first road event, El Tour de Tucson. I returned the following year and moved to my new home in Virginia.
Living in Roanoke, Virginia, has been an incredible experience. Situated between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains, Roanoke has introduced me to remarkable people. I am especially grateful for my friend and team founder, Nicola, who has supported me throughout my journey. I have found a second family here! The community here has been incredibly supportive, and I am grateful for their encouragement. Roanoke boasts the most breathtaking and safe cycling
routes I have ever ridden. Training here is a cyclist's paradise, with its stunning scenery, rolling hills, and challenging climbs that are ideal for training. There are also plenty of mountain biking trails and incredible gravel riding. Being here has also allowed me to provide a better future for my daughter. She loves going to her school here, and while her first language is Spanish, living in Roanoke has also allowed her to speak English.
Even though I am far from my home in Cuba, thanks to the amazing people here, I have found that second family—that second home. Roanoke and Virginia's Blue Ridge region offer fantastic places to enjoy with the family, such as a beautiful Zoo and a lovely bike path along the

Marlies went on to win sixteen races in North America in 2023, including criteriums and road races. She is the team sprinter. Her daughter often comes on the road with the team. She is coached by 3x Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong and is improving as a cyclist year after year.

Roanoke is a city that strikes the perfect balance between rural and urban vibes. Many community events are hosted throughout the year, as well as rich city history. This quirky city has its own charms and has become the perfect place to settle down as I continue my journey towards representing Cuba in yet another Olympics, this time with my sights set on a medal.

Quokkas are often considered the happiest animals on Earth due to their perpetual cheerful appearance, always sporting a smile. These adorable creatures are affectionately known as the perfect companions for capturing selfies. Actor Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor and tennis player Roger Federer all got millions of “likes” on their Instagram posts for their selfies with quokkas.
There are slightly more than 10,000 quokkas globally, and they enjoy protected status in Australia. The majority of these adorable creatures inhabit Western Australia's Rottnest Island, drawing considerable attention from tourists worldwide. The island, spanning only 19 square kilometers, serves as a renowned nature reserve celebrated for its stunning beaches and rich biodiversity. Due to restrictions on private automobiles within this protected area, bicycles have become the preferred mode of transportation for visitors.
Situated at 19 kilometers west of the biggest city in western Australia, Perth, Rottnest Island is accessible via ferries, helicopters and light planes. Ferries are the choice of transport for most visitors and depending on the locations of the docks, it takes approximately thirty to ninety minutes to get to the island. In addition to renting bicycles on the island, visitors have the option to bring their own or prebook bicycle rentals along with their ferry tickets.

自行車環島的好處是可以自由調整步調及路 線,一邊享受大自然,一邊尋覓短尾矮袋鼠, 十分愜意自在,既可運動又很環保。然而小 島地勢有高低起伏,有些路段也非柏油路, 建議量力而為,並隨時補充水份、確實防曬。 小島的多數道路是人車共用,除了自行車外 還有巴士及公務車輛行駛,故騎車及步行時 要注意安全,平安完成旅程,並帶著美好回 憶及和短尾矮袋鼠的可愛自拍照踏上歸途。
*Rotto Mini loop: 4 kilometers in length, estimated riding time is 30 minutes. It starts at the visitor center on the east side and goes through a lush wooded area and a sandy beach that is good for snorkeling and fishing. This is also a popular area where quokkas like to hang out.
*Beaches, Lighthouses, and Lake trail: 10 kilometers in length, estimated riding time is 1.53 hours. Starting from the visitor center, the trail heads inland towards the lake area. Upon reaching the island's highest point, marked by the lighthouse, it proceeds along the south coast to the seashore. Passing by several renowned beaches and bays, the trail eventually loops back to the visitor center.
*Island Ride: 22 kilometers in length, estimated riding time is 3-5 hours. This path follows the coastline heading south towards the west side. It then veers inland to reach the westernmost point of the island before turning north. Cyclists can choose to take a break at the lighthouse while traveling along the coastline before making their way back to the starting point.

Nestled amidst fjords and the Northern Lights, Norway is celebrated as a global leader in climate action. Its capital, Oslo, offers not only stunning natural beauty but also an ambitious vision for the future. With the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, the city's government is taking action akin to that of superheroes. They have unveiled a forward-thinking plan known as the Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ), making it harder for cars to enter the city than traversing through time and space, traffic is prohibited within a core area of 1.3 square kilometers. In just three years, over thousand roadside parking lots have been replaced by green spaces, thereby improving air quality and promoting a healthier and trendier lifestyle for its residents.
In consideration of the convenience of its citizens, the city government has even established bicycle hotels at major train stations, relieving people of the burdens of parking and theft concerns. Oslo is gradually transforming into a haven for cyclists and pedestrians alike.
What's even more enviable is the substantial budget allocation by the city council to support sustainability initiatives. An astonishing 10 million Norwegian kroner have been earmarked to subsidize the purchase of electric bicycles by individuals and businesses. With each bike eligible for a subsidy of up to 15,000 Norwegian kroner, this is a remarkable initiative aimed at making life less worrisome due to traffic congestion. Electric bicycles are not only eco-friendly but also practical, capable of transporting goods and effortlessly shuttling children to and from school. The rise of electric bicycles has injected fresh vitality into the quest for sustainable urban living.
In the wave of green transportation, a cutting-edge startup in Oslo, Whee!, has introduced a shared service for electric cargo bikes. This offers citizens even more choices. Through a subscription plan, individuals can access different bike models for only 1/50th of the original price, adapting to their needs. Whee! also provides four doorstep maintenance visits per year, seasonal tire replacements and comprehensive insurance coverage. Today, the company boasts a market value of 25 million Norwegian kroner. Electric cargo bikes have significantly reduced the need for households to rely on cars,
alleviating financial and time pressures and enhancing the quality of everyday life in a sustainable manner.
Norway has a saying, "There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing." (Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær) This adage reflects the wisdom of those who live in extreme climates, especially in Northern Europe. This spirit is embodied in the design of every cargo bike, particularly those designed for transporting children. They are like fashionable tanks, equipped with versatile covers. When the sun shines brightly, you can easily remove the cover, converting the bike into an open-air style. When faced with a blizzard, simply zip up the cover to brave the elements, granting you a sense of invincibility. In the chilly October with an average temperature of two degrees, as I walked the streets feeling the biting wind, I couldn't help but imagine the comfort of riding in one of these cargo bikes adorned with reindeer fur.

THE NEW BLUE SEA OF CYCLING TOURISM AND ENTERING THE LOW-CARBON ERA
自行車觀光新藍海,與時俱進低碳時代!
South Korea boldly embraces the challenge of achieving zero carbon emissions by blending its charming traditions with modernity.
With the pandemic behind us, an increasing number of individuals recognize the significance of global health and environmental preservation. The imperative for humanity to sustainably coexist with the Earth has evolved into a collective consciousness. As countries diligently strive to revive their economic conditions, the challenge of returning to pre-pandemic economic levels and achieving the goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050, as outlined in the Glasgow Climate Pact, tests the wisdom and determination of their respective governments.
Following the introduction of the 'green growth' policy by former President Lee Myung-bak in 2008, the parliament approved the extensive 'National Strategy for Green Growth 2009-2050.' A substantial investment of over 1 trillion KRW (approximately 763 million USD) was allocated in 2009 to establish dedicated cycling routes throughout Korea. Currently, there are twelve prominent certification cycling routes, which includes iconic paths such as Han River, Jeju Fantasy and East Coast bike trails. These dedicated cycling routes are not limited to just mountains and seashores but also bridge the major metropolis to the rural countryside. These routes champion physical activity for the enhancement of people's well-being, foster the growth of the green industry, and establish a mutually beneficial relationship between environmental
protection and economic development. The projected total length of the cycling routes is set to extend to 2,237 km (3,600 miles), covering expansive areas throughout the entire country. Recently, the South Korean government has redefined these bike trails as a significant tourism promotion, constituting a new blue sea in South Korea's tourism sector.
In addition to building the physical cycling routes, the government offers a comprehensive and systematic tourist guide for cyclists. The Bike Passports, issued by the government (or available through a smartphone app), encourage riders to experience all the routes and collect stamps that represent local characteristics along the way. Upon completing any given route, individuals can request verification stamps at designated booths to obtain certification. The official website provides maps of bike routes along with interesting regional information about
the surroundings, scenery, campsites, accommodations and history. Moreover, the inclusion of picturesque cycling routes in popular K-dramas like My Love from the Stars, Doctors, and 25,21 not only captivates international audiences but also underscores the dedication of the South Korean government to its Green Growth policy.
Prioritizing low carbon emissions puts the spotlight on the cycling industry. The South Korean government seizes the opportunity and establishes a perfect niche by promoting cycling to safeguard the environment, reduce carbon emissions and foster healthier lifestyles among its citizens. By creating a green wave that resonates throughout the government and the general public, South Korea has successfully undergone a paradigm shift towards sustainability.

早從2008年,前南韓總統李明博提出「綠色增長」

程」的長遠計畫,投入一兆韓元(折合台幣約260億)預算,建置 全國統一的自行車道。如今南韓已有十二條主要自行車道路線,如 漢江自行車道、濟州環線自行車道及東海岸自行車道等。全國統一 的自行車道不但打破都市與鄉村的隔閡、穿越山脈與海岸的限制, 還串連起全民健康運動福祉與促進綠色產業發展,實現環保與經濟 雙贏。預計2024年更擴建至2237公里,讓自行車道分佈更密集。 近期,南韓政府將目光鎖定觀光人潮,自行車旅遊勢必成為觀光新 藍海。
除建置自行車道外,南韓政府更是系統性的全面規劃統一發行的「自 行車護照」,吸引國內外旅客參與自行車旅遊,沿途搜集當地專屬 特色印章,增添旅遊樂趣。完成自行車路線後也能獲得南韓政府頒 發的證明書,為挑戰自我的綠色足跡,留下燦爛見證。透過南韓政 府設置的官網:www.riverguide.go.kr,即可以獲取自行車路線、 人文風景、露營住宿等豐富資訊。此外,在韓劇推波助瀾下,如:《來 自星星的你》、《Doctors》、《二十五、二十一》等騎乘自行車畫面, 更深刻畫觀眾腦海,看得出南韓政府不遺餘力實踐「綠色增長」的決 心。

In this edition, VELO Club visited professional bike fitters in Taiwan and the US to demonstrate how bike fitting can make the cycling experience much more enjoyable. As the devil is in the details, Sherlock Holmes-like bike fitters will analyze and adjust from shoes, saddles, handlebars, bar tapes, grips, tire sizes so that the cyclists can simply be themselves comfortably when they ride.

BIKE FITTING THAT MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
Aftersweeping three championships in 2023 from Taiwan KOM Challenge, the National Games Individual Female Road Bicycle Race to UCI Asian Circuits in Okinawa, Japan, Hsiao-chia Tseng was so thrilled and she commented that Eddie Huang was “the best bike fitter ever!” Eddie, Taiwan's most renowned bike fitter, assisted Tseng in discovering her optimal fit, leading to significant improvements in her cycling performance.
As a former professional cyclist, Eddie suffered a serious injury in 2007. After recovery and back on the bike, he was shocked to find that “I felt like a rusty machine that my legs couldn’t function smoothly anymore, and I couldn’t make any adjustment to make it work.”
Three years later, a professional bike fitter discovered that despite feeling fine after physical therapy, Eddie had nearly a 1 centimeter difference in the lengths of his legs. This revelation deeply impressed Eddie, leading him to recognize the critical role of bike fitting. From then on, he fully immersed himself in the captivating world of bike fitting.
In the beginning, Eddie couldn’t help himself but fit himself whenever
he was cycling. Later, he decided to study bike fitting in-depth and he got certified as a bike fitter in the USA, Germany and Spain. Since then, Eddie has consulted numerous renowned cyclists in surpassing his own cycling records, establishing himself as a respected bike fitter in Taiwan. Many triathletes and cyclists regularly schedule appointments with Eddie for periodic adjustments.
Specializing in STT 3DMA real-time dynamic analysis system, Eddie records how cyclists pedal and the variabilities of angles to fine-tune the saddles, handlebars, and grips in order to ensure cyclists maintain the postures best appropriate for them. Eddie emphasizes that bike fitting extends beyond enhancing riding performance. Its primary objective is to cultivate cyclists' awareness of their own bodies, enabling them to make adjustments to better accommodate their individual physical conditions. This heightened awareness leads to improved long-term performance and helps prevent injuries.
SADDLE, THE BIGGEST CONTACTING POINT IN A BIKE
Inbike fitting, selecting and adjusting the saddle appropriately is crucial. Eddie emphasizes that determining the correct height and angle of the saddle, along with finding the optimal sitting position on the saddle, are key factors for ensuring a comfortable cycling experience. The right saddles and adjustments provide cyclists with the necessary support, allowing them to pedal steadily. The Gebiomized Saddle Pressure Mapping system from Germany in CPS allows cyclists to see how their body weight is distributed on the saddle.
A complete fitting session takes two to three hours. A survey completed by the cyclist provides essential information about the client, including their basic details, cycling experience, and specific requirements. Next, the rider is asked to perform some exercises to evaluate the client’s physical condition, including their activity level, flexibility, and muscle tone. Eddie also evaluates the cyclist’s gear to evaluate the details such as the size, shoe style, and the position of the pedal cleats before actual on-bike pedaling analysis.
Bike Fitting打通騎行任督二脈
2023年一舉拿下「臺灣KOM登山王之路冠軍」、「全運會自由車女子組 個人計時公路賽冠軍」及「UCI 亞洲巡迴賽 日本沖繩站冠軍」的曾可妡興 奮地在臉書上點名黃彥霖大讚:「The best bike fitter ever!」。黃彥霖是 台灣知名騎乘姿勢調整師Bike Fitter,也是協助曾可妡打通騎行任督二 脈的幕後關鍵推手。
自行車國手出身的黃彥霖於2007年嚴重摔車,康復後重新跨上自行車, 卻「發現身體好像生鏽的機器,雙腳運作起來卡卡的,怎麼調整都不舒 適」。3年後遇到專業Bike Fitter,才測量出黃彥霖受傷後左右腳長度差 了快1公分!這次際遇讓黃彥霖感受到Bike Fitting的重要性,也讓他 一頭栽進Bike Fitting的迷人世界!
一開始他在騎車時會忍不住隨時替自已Fitting,後來乾脆專心鑽研並且 取得美國、德國和西班牙各國Bike Fitter認證。黃彥霖如今已是備受讚 譽,幫助許多知名車手成功超越自已的知名Bike Fitter!許多三鐵、自 由車選手,每隔一段時間就會來找黃彥霖重新檢視調整,以提升騎行表 現。
黃彥霖專精於STT 3DMA即時動態分析系統,利用高速攝影機捕捉騎士 的踩踏動態,偵測關節的角度變化來調整坐墊、龍頭及手把等,確保騎 士維持最合適的姿勢。黃彥霖強調Fitting不只是提升騎乘效率,主要是 協助騎士了解自已的身體,讓車子符合身體現況,才能騎得更好更久, 避免運動傷害。
Fitting自行車最大接觸點-坐墊
黃彥霖表示,「坐墊款式的選擇與設定」是Fitting的一大關鍵,坐墊太高、 傾角太翹及坐點位置,都可能造成會陰部壓迫,合適的坐墊與設定能夠 為騎士帶來適當支撐,同時穩定踩踏。CPS店內採用德國Gebiomized Saddle Pressure Mapping坐墊壓力分析系統,可感測騎士坐在上面的 壓力分佈情形。
完整Fitting約2到3小時,先利用問卷確認騎士的騎乘背景,基本狀 態與需求後,再進行身體活動度、柔軟度和肌力等身體評估。接著了解 騎乘者的現有配備是否符合需求,例如:車鞋尺寸、楦型與鞋底扣片位 置等資訊,再開始實際踩踏分析。

The Gebiomized Saddle Pressure Mapping system reveals that Xiaohua’s pressure on the two lateral halves of the saddle is about 50%-50%, and the distribution of pressure on the front and back parts is also nearly even. The COP (Center of pressure) also shows that the cyclist sits on the saddle firmly. It is concluded that the Angel TT saddle is the perfect fit for Xiaohua.

Tips for experienced cyclists
Most experienced cyclists are aware of their own riding preferences. After confirming their sit bone width, cyclists can select different saddles in accordance with their style of riding whether its road, MTB or triathlon. One can proceed to fine-tune the height and angle of the saddle and observe the distribution of pressure on the saddles to optimize comfort during cycling.

Fitting procedure
As a newbie, Catherine picked the most appealing saddle from Velo, the Angel Rise+. However, when she took the pedaling test, it showed that her body weight tended to lean to the right side which made it difficult for her to ride. After some analysis, Eddie discovered her weight distribution was much more even on Sky OW saddle. As a result, pedaling became easier for her and she felt significantly more comfortable with Sky OW.

Since Angle Rise+ is more slender, it is more suitable for cyclists who do not put all their weight on the saddle. In other words, it is not ideal for beginner cyclists who tend to sit upright in the middle and rear sections of the saddle. As the Sky OW is wider and thicker, it is more suitable for beginners.

Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a novice hitting the road for the first time, understanding the importance of bike fit is paramount for maximizing performance, preventing injuries and enhancing overall cycling experience.
Aproper bike fit is the foundation of a comfortable and efficient cycling experience. A poorly fitted bike can lead to a myriad of issues, ranging from discomfort and pain to decreased performance and an increased risk of injury. Achieving the right bike fit involves adjusting various components of the bike to match the rider's unique biomechanics and preferences. Bike fitters use advanced tools and techniques, including video analysis and pressure mapping, to fine-tune your bike position. Professional bike fitting takes into account individual
factors such as flexibility, riding style, and personal goals. A well-fitted bike ensures that your body is positioned optimally, preventing unnecessary strain on muscles and joints. Comfort is not just about avoiding pain; it directly impacts your ability to sustain a consistent and efficient pedal stroke. Misaligned joints and poor posture can lead to overuse injuries, particularly in the knees, back, and neck. A wellfitted bike reduces the risk of these injuries by distributing stress evenly across the body.
Recently, Velo had the opportunity to visit one of the premier bike fit studios in California. Bosco Bike Fits ran by Andrew Bosco has been the go-to fitter in the area for new cycling enthusiasts, seasoned riders and professionals. We sat in on two fit sessions with two different riders – a 15 year old elite junior racer and a 41 year old multi-discipline cycling enthusiast.
Casey, a 15 year old elite racer scheduled a visit to fine-tune his positioning for an upcoming stage race which required him to use his road bike for the opening time trial. Goal was to optimize his positioning for best power output without sacrificing comfort in an aggressive aero position. His current saddle also had him swaying a bit more than he liked not providing adequate support. He tried a few different saddles and opted on Angel TT (143mm width). As part of their standard procedure, a 360 degree detailed video analysis was done to evaluate the comparison on the previous and new positioning. Andrew emphasized the importance of
more frequent adjustment for younger riders with their rapid physiological changes during adolescence. These adjustments maybe incremental but crucial to avoiding injuries and optimizing performance.
Lucas, a 41 year old active cycling enthusiast scheduled a visit for with his new trail bike. A repeat client at Bosco Bike Fit, he has previously undergone fitting consultations for both his road and XC mountain bikes. This was his first dual-suspension
mountain bike and was looking to get properly fit on his new setup. He stated the stock saddle was a bit narrow and lacking in support. Since it’s been a few years since his last bike fit, Andrew suggested to visit the intake room to review his current flexibility and evaluate his current measurements. Andrew guided Lucas through some flexibility analysis and took comparison notes from his last visit. A 360 degree video analysis was done to evaluate his pedaling along with his hand and saddle positioning.
Andrew suggested two saddles to see what worked best for Lucas – Angel Revo (148mm width) and Angel Glide+ (143mm width). Changes were made to his saddle height, saddle angle, brake lever positioning and even the dropper post lever. After testing and evaluating the two models, Lucas felt that the Angel Revo worked best with his new bike. Deciding factors were the foam properties and shell flexibility which suited better for his style of riding.
Overtime, it’s important to consider that the saddle that has worked for a rider for the last decade may no longer
be the best due to change in flexibility and weight variances. Scheduling regular fit consultation is important to avoid any discomfort and injuries. In the world of cycling, achieving peak performance isn't just about the bike you ride; it's about how well that bike fits you. Investing into professional bike fitting can make a world of difference.
