The festival will also see a retrospective of the 70-year-old actor, who is currently shooting for Prakash Jha's Satyagraha in Central Indian state Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal. "There is the Melbourne Film festival, where they do a retrospective of mine and give me honour. Then I travel back to Bhopal in a few to complete Satyagraha, to finish by the end of the month of April and then immediately set off for New York, to be with The Great Gatsby'and its premier on the 1st of May," Bachchan posted on his blog. “At the end of all this I would require a year to recover from symptoms of acute delusion as to what, where and why I am?,” he added.

In perhaps the first instance of a major made-in-India auto product making its way to the dragon land, Yamaha is set to drive in locally-manufactured lowcost motorcycles and scooters to China that would be the company’s lowestpriced vehicles in the country. The Japanese two-wheeler major is planning to make India a hub for development as well as manufacturing of lowcost products and plans to launch a sub- $500 (under Rs 27,000) scooter and motorcycle , which would be its cheapest two-wheeler globally and sold across volume-laden markets such as China, Africa and Latin America.

“We are in the process of developing low-cost products from India and these would be sold across major markets, including China,” Yuh Motoyama , Yamaha’s senior GM (engineering section — motorcycle business operations ), told TOIhere. Motoyama said the products are currently under development and the Indian R&D is playing the lead role in this, with assistance from headquarter Japan.

Our aim is to introduce a scooter model each year to help us achieve overall 10% market share by 2016,” he said, adding that IYM would launch scooters targeted at men and for family usage. At present, the company has a lone scooter model, Ray, which is targeted at women customers. On motorcycles, Suzuki said the company will continue to offer new models both in performance and commuter segments, though refusing to give details.

“The idea is to develop a low-cost scooter and motorcycle , and these would be the lowest-priced globally in the Yamaha stable,” Motoyama said. Currently, the company sells its lowest-priced two-wheeler in China which is priced at $700 (Rs 38,200). The company announced the establishment of a new motorcycle R&D set-up at Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh and this is Yamaha’s fifth overseas research centre on the lines of similar ones in Italy, Taiwan, China and Thailand. Asked why the company had chosen India for developing the low-cost models, Motoyama said the products will have a big potential in this market. “India is very, very important for Yamaha and is a growing market — one of the biggest in the world. The reason for developing the products here is to be near the market to catch customer response better and also to respond faster.” He said apart from international markets, the new lowpriced products would be sold across India that would help Yamaha grab a bigger share of the market. The company’s local subsidiary, India Yamaha Motor (IYM), is looking to sell 7.1 lakh units of motorcycles and scooters this year, including 2.1 lakh of exports. IYM had sold a total of 4.9 lakh units in 2012. “Our long-term target is to sell a total of 28 lakh units by 2018. We are aiming to sell 10 lakh units in 2015 that will include exports ,” IYM CEO and MD Hiroyuki Suzuki said. In the medium term, the company is eyeing a market share of 10% by 2016, when overall industry volumes are pegged to be around 18 million units. “By 2020, we expect scooters to be half

The UK on Tuesday lifted a ban on London Metropolitan University to admit foreign students. This decision follows the removal of the university's sponsor licence in August 2012. The ban had left thousands of students, including around 350 Indians, in limbo and at risk of deportation. The home office said, "A series of inspections carried out by the home office in the last 6 months have demonstrated that the university has made the necessary improvements to its systems and administration. The university now meets the requirements needed to sponsor international students from outside the European Economic Area." Indian students who chose to stay at the university can continue their studies as a legitimate student. If their visa has run out, they can extend it now by obtaining a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies certificate from London Met and making a Tier 4 (student) application.

MP Keith Vaz said, "Today's decision shows that the hasty verdict by the UK Border Agency to revoke the licence was wrong choice. It has irreparably damaged the UK's reputation as the destination of choice for overseas students." Australias Community Magazine

{ { YouTube says more than 1 billion people are now visiting its online video site each month to watch everything from zany clips of cute kittens to sobering scenes of social unrest around the world.

YouTube hits a billion monthly viewers The milestone was announced on Wednesday at a splashy event in Santa Monica that was aimed at advertisers and featured performances from some of the website's biggest stars, such as the bands CDZA and Monsters Calling Home. It marks another step in YouTube's evolution from a quirky startup launched in 2005 to one of the most influential forces in today's media landscape. YouTube crossed the 1 billion threshold five months after Facebook Inc. said its online social network had reached that figure for the first time. YouTube first hit 800 million monthly visitors in October 2011. The vast audience has given YouTube's owner, Google Inc., another lucrative channel for selling online ads beyond its dominant Internet search engine. Google bought YouTube for $1.76 billion in 2006 when the video site had an estimated 50 million users worldwide. Since late 2011, YouTube has refocused its site to prioritize watching along distinct channels of its creators. Such channels were seen as better allowing advertisers to focus on certain genres of content like beauty or music. In 2012, it seeded 96 channels with

around $100 million in funding to help them accelerate that growth, often partnering with big-name Hollywood producers and directors that had made it big in movies or TV but not on the Internet, including "CSI" creator Anthony Zuiker. Later, YouTube vowed to spend another $200 million marketing the channels to boost viewers. But Wednesday's event focused largely on those who had succeeded on YouTube before the channel-funding strategy was in place, such as Michelle Phan, a YouTuber who has been giving viewers makeup tips since 2006. Robert Kyncl, vice president and global head of content partnerships, acknowledged to reporters after the event that the channel funding strategy had not worked as well as hoped. When asked if the channel funding investment had paid off, Kyncl said, "Every year we reserve the right to get smarter." He said that while YouTube was committed to continuing to invest in content, he said more of such investment in the future would go to those channels that had already proven they can be successful at building an audience on their own.

"What we're looking for is the acceleration of those who are figuring out how to retail their content," he said.

Celebrity news Bollywood star Akshay Kumar says although his upcoming gangster film Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again is inspired by some real-life incidents, the story remains fictional. "I am not playing a real-life character. There are some areas where we have taken some real incidents from different places and put them together and the rest of the story is fictional," Akshay told reporters here. He said their film is a continuation from Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, the first part of the sequel to the superhit 2010 film which had starred Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi. "Only faces have changed. The story begins from where it had ended," said the 'Khiladi' of Bollywood. Imran Khan, who also plays a gangster in the film, said some past events were modified and included in the story. "But it is not a historical film," he said. The film, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha as the love interest of two gangsters, will showcase the gang wars of the era of 80s. It is scheduled for release in August.

After recording songs for more than 1,000 films in 36 languages in a career span of seven decades, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar says she now feels out of place in the Indian movie industry. "Cinema has changed a lot from the times when we used to work. I will not say that it's not good, but I don't fit into it. If I would sing in any film today, then I don't think I will be able to sing it beautifully," said the 83-year-old singer here Monday at an event organised to announce the recipients of Dinanath Mangeshkar Awards. However, she believes that "change is inevitable in this world," and said that she is not "blaming anyone for this". From classical to romantic numbers to ghazals to bhajans, Lata has made her mark in a variety of genres. Lata started her singing career in 1943 at the age of 13 with the song "Mata ek sapoot ki duniya badal de tu" for Marathi film "Gajaabhaau", and she even did bit roles in films for her family's living. The singer admits she hated acting in films, but had no choice at that time. "I have worked in some seven to eight films and I didn't enjoy it. I used to be very sad when I worked in those films. But at that time I was helpless. I had no choice," she said. Her last song in a Bollywood film was "Tere hasne se" for 2011 film "Satrangee Parachute". She also launched her music label LM Music with a bhajan album last year.

Quick pedicure tips at home

Never mind if you have a flawless complexion, what also significantly matters are the feet. Feet tend to get overlooked and generally don’t figure in our beauty regime. Feet need extra care during summer as this is the season of flip flops where the skin is exposed to dirt.

Beautiful feet signify personal hygiene too. Not all of us can afford a spa pedicure or get a foot reflexology massage done. But hey all’s not lost; you can still have a perfect pair of beautiful looking feet with a little work on them that can be done right in the comfort of your home. They don’t cost you much too.

Ways to clean feet

Things you’ll need - A tub to soak your feet - Crystal salt - Nail cutter - A cuticle stick - Nail file - Liquid soap - Moisturising lotion - Epsom salt - Scrub - Clean towel - Nail polish - Soothing music/book for light reading

Remove nail polish Add a spoon of crystal salt and liquid shampoo to a tub of warm water. Soak your feet in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes. While doing this you could relax with a book or enjoy some good music. Pat dry your feet with a clean towel and cut the nails and shape your nails the way you want. The one-stop beauty elixir Are you in the habit of slapping on foundation on your face every time you notice a zit or blemish? Well, seeking refuge in heavy makeup to make your complexion look flawless only adds to your skin woes. Concealers and foundations are known to block pores, cause zits, spots and premature wrinkles if used regularly. So, how about a skin product that camouflages imperfections, and acts as a healing balm? The BB Cream (blemish balm/beauty balm), a product that has taken the international and Indian markets by storm claims to meet all makeup needs, and also repair, replenish your skin. “You can use BB creams as makeup base, sunscreens, foundation or even as moisturisers,” explains Nandita Suri of Levo Spalon.

Charoo Chawla from Blliis Spa adds to the benefit list. “Some of these also possess anti-ageing agents and skin smoothening properties.” While the BB can work for some, like every makeup product, it has to be tested before one can find what suits one’s skin. “Since it’s not as thick as foundation, BB provide less coverage than a liquid foundation. It’s better for the don’t-feel-likewearing make-up days. But, they have a limited colour range — usually one or two, while liquid foundations tend to have five to 10. Also, be careful of BB cream undertones which tend to be pink instead of yellow and can make you look ashy,” says Nikita Sharma, makeup trainer at The Body Shop.

The rise of the BB cream

Having its inventive roots in Germany, the beauty cream rose to popularity in Korea where it was believed to be a luxe product and a favourite of film stars. When it made its way to the European market, the primary hiccup was believed to be the lack of availability of varied shades. While the lighter options were there, for darker skin tones, the product did not work. Now, with the quick rise of the cream in the past couple of years, there are more hues and colours available. In the Indian market, the BB has become popular, but it still does not have the high-definition resilience to replace the multitude of foundations and makeup base. Although, the simple application process still makes it a makeup saviour. “BB Creams are best applied with your fingers. Simply dot a little bit of the product all over the face, and pat it into the skin only with your fingers,” explains Nikita.

Nutritional food to keep your eyes healthy Everybody knows that eating right is the way to keep your heart healthy. The good news is that the same diet that helps your heart is probably also good for your eyes. A diet low in fat and rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains can pay benefits not only to your heart but to your eyes. The connection isn't surprising: your eyes rely on tiny arteries for oxygen and nutrients, just as the heart relies on much larger arteries. Keeping those arteries healthy will help your eyes.

It is possible to aid eye health through nutrition and supplements, experts at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Research by the National Eye Institute (NEI) has shown that high levels of antioxidants and zinc, in the form of a nutritional supplement tablet, reduced the risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD). "AMD is the leading cause of blindness in older adults," said Cynthia Owsley, Ph.D., professor and vice chair for clinical research in the Department of Ophthalmology. "These dietary supplements are not a cure for AMD, but they do reduce one's risk of progressing to the most serious form of the disease," she stated. UAB School of Optometry Professor Leo Semes, O.D., talked about the importance of diet to eye health. "You are what you eat; it's trite but it's true. It's been shown that certain habits like eating a high-fat diet are associated with, but not causative, in AMD," Semes said. One food that has long been connected with improving vision is carrots, but Semes said carrots alone would not accomplish significant gains in eye health. "The basis for this belief is that carrots are high in beta-carotene. But beta-carotene alone is not going to be protective enough. There's also a tangential relationship that a lack of vitamin-A, a cousin of beta-carotene, is implicated in poor darkness adaptation," Semes said. Seeing well when moving from light to dark declines with age. Semes serves on the American Optometric Association Health and Nutrition Committee, which developed a list of specific foods

and nutrients that have been found to be beneficial to eye health. Fruits and vegetables Vitamin C can help minimize cataracts and AMD Fleshy fish (tuna or salmon) and lean meats - Fatty acids protect against AMD Red meats and whole grains - Zinc deficiency can lead to cataracts Vegetable oil - Vitamin E can slow progression of AMD As we said certain vitamins and nutrients added to your diet maintains eye health. Vitamin A is needed by the body to maintain the proper functioning of the retina and helps the eye to adapt between bright light and darkness; the eye’s ability to adapt helps to reduce night blindness. Consuming Vitamin A also helps reduce macular degeneration as well as the formation of cataracts. Vitamin C is another antioxidant but it can be found easily in citrus fruits; consuming foods rich in Vitamin C reduces age related macular degeneraiton and catacracts. Vitamin E also helps prevent cataracts and also delays the growth of cataracts. Zinc helps the body to absorb antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C and E and aids the body from developing eye diseases. Lutein can be found in the macula, it is another antioxidant and its presence helps to neutralize the effects of free radicals that result from pollution, the sun’s UV rays as well as your own body’s metabolism.

Sonam Kapoor looks unbelievably young in ‘Raanjhnaa’! The pretty schoolgirl with pigtails and in flowery frock you see above is indeed Sonam Kapoor. The actress seems to have turned back the hand of clock to look unbelievably young in the film Raanjhnaa with south star Dhanush.

Sonam Kapoor wants to do father`s film `Tezaab` Even as filmmakers are revisiting old blockbusters of the 80s and 90s, actress Sonam Kapoor says that she is not particularly fond of movies made in that period but would love to do Anil KapoorMadhuri Dixit starrer `Tezaab`. “I am not a huge fan of 80s and 90s as they were hero centric. If I had to play a role now it has to be of a hero. So if anything had to be remade I would love to be Ms India if not Mr India. I would love to play male characters,” Sonam said. “I would love to do `Tezaab` again,” she said. Her father Anil Kapoor ruled Bollywood at that time with films like `Tezaab`, `Beta`, `Lamhe`, and `Mr India` among others. The 27-year-old actress is currently shooting for Yash Raj Films untitled project with Ayushmann Khurrana. “We have already finished the first schedule of the film. I am very happy the way things are going on,” she said. She will also be sporting a bikini in an untitled film which is being helmed by director Nupur Asthana. When asked about her reservations earlier, she said, “My body was not ready to wear swim suit and I was honest and direct about it. Whether I wear it or not is nobody`s business. Is it a big deal like me wearing a bikini?”

How to organize your wardrobe It is essential that proper care is taken while storing your clothes and accessories so that they last longer. The following steps will ensure that you always have a well-organized cupboard. Get started by categorizing all your stuff.

To

prevent slipping of clothes, fasten the top few buttons of all shirts and zipup pants.

Lingerie and Socks

the direction of the jeans. This will prevent the stack from falling or getting bunched up in a drawer.

Basics  Before starting, remember to make space

in your closet and calculate how much space you will require for each category.  Sort your clothes by type of garment or colour. If necessary, break sections down further into sleeve and hem lengths.  For items like tees, sweaters and blouses, open-air shelves are more convenient than a dresser.

{ { If you are a woman worth your salt, you are bound to possess an overloaded closet with too many clothes piled into small spaces, shelves bursting with bags or accessories and shoes littering the floor.

Hangables

These could include your office shirts,

fancy tops or party dresses. Make sure all your hangers are the same size. If you’ve got a mix of wire and wooden hangers, your clothes will hang at different angles and you won’t be able to properly see what you have. While you’re hanging your clothes, remove dry-cleaning bags immediately. Not only do they trap a lot of air, but they keep your garments imprisoned with harmful chemicals.

It’s

best to store undergarments and socks in the top drawers, where they are easily accessible. Get drawer dividers and keep all your paired up socks in single rows on one side and your undergarments on the other, to make it easier to see what you need. Store your fancy lingerie well apart from the rest of your wardrobe, preferably in paper silk or fabric, else it might get entangled. Keep slips, singlets and camisoles in another drawer so you can grab one quickly whenever you need to wear anything under a dress or shirt, without rummaging through all your other clothes.

 Remember, out of sight is out of mind, so

keep your regular wear clothes in front, and seasonal ones behind them. Foldables  Neatly fold your casual clothes into a pile and keep on a shelf. Make sure the stacks are a maximum of 8 to 10 inches in height.  Put the bulkiest pieces at the bottom of the pile to avoid an unstable, top-heavy formation.  You can make separate stacks for your party wear, office and home clothes.  If you have too many items of one type of clothing, say, different kinds of jeans, fold each pair in half lengthwise and roll upwards from the hem. Place the folded pairs on top of one another, alternating

 Since saris are heavy pieces of clothing,

you can store them separately in a soft white cloth or in special sari cover bags available in the market.  Expensive silk saris become brittle with storage, and break apart along fold lines, especially the sharp ones that have never been unfolded since leaving the shop. Drape them on hangers so that they do not suffer the weight of the pile on top of them.

Saris

Bags  Hang your day handbags on hangers and then

place them in your wardrobe. This will keep them scuff-free, neat and organized.  If you want to save space, place the smaller handbags inside larger ones.  Expensive clutches and purses can be stored out of sight in a drawer because they are not used frequently.  Try storing all your bags on the topmost shelf. This will give you a clear display of all your bags.

Jewellery

 You can invest in a good jewellery

box or a protective zip case to store expensive jewellery, instead of just letting it lie around in the drawer.  Alternatively, wrap your jewels in muslin and tuck them in plastic zip-lock cases.  Hang long beads and funky necklaces on the peg attached to the wardrobe door. This keeps them knot-free and ensures they’re easily at hand.

Shoes

 If you have a pair of stilettos that’s new or

dear to you, and you have the space, store it in your cupboard inside a clear plastic shoebox. This will keep the shoes dustfree.  Always store footwear at the bottom of your wardrobe, on slanted shelves or racks. You’ll fit more pairs in if you alternate the shoes toe-in and toe-out.

1 packet Hakka Noodles (200gms, 7 Oz ) 4 spring onions, sliced crosswise, greens and whites separated about 1 cup purple cabbage, shredded 1/4 cup frozen beans about 1 cup thinly sliced multi colored capsicum 1 medium carrot, julienned

1 medium celery, thinly sliced 1/2-1 cup bean sprouts 1-2 garlic, finely minced 1-2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce 1 tsp vinegar(optional) 1-2 tbsp chilli sauce, as per taste salt and pepper to taste

Boil the noodles as per the package instruction. Add salt, oil to the water. When it is about 85-90% cooked, drain the noodles and toss it lightly with cold water. Drain it completely and set aside until ready to use. Meanwhile heat a wide skillet. If you own a Wok, then it is best to use it for this. Heat about 1 tsp of oil until it smokes. Make sure you have all the vegetables ready by the side since its all about quick cooking. Add the garlic followed by spring onion greens, bell peppers, cabbage, celery, carrots and beans. Toss on high flame for 2 minutes. Don’t leave the vegetables on their own since at this stage they can easily burn. You would want to keep tossing them. When you find the vegetables softening slightly , add the noodles, soy sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, chilli sauce (and ketchup if using) , bean sprouts along with spring onion greens. Give it a good toss and saute for another minute or so.

Darjeeling Nestled among the rolling mountains with the glistening Mt Kanchenjunga towering over the azure sky, Darjeeling fondly called "Queen of the Hills", provides a perfect gateway for those seeking to be in harmony with nature. This is the land of the muscatel flavoured Darjeeling tea revered by connoisseurs across the globe. This is the land of the world heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway where the century old miniature steam engine still chugs uphill vying for space with the fast disappearing Land Rovers. "Flowers are everywhere. The days are cold and the sun almost seems to play hide and seek with us". - Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. It is certainly that Darjeeling in the post modern era comprises of six T’s -Tea, Teak, Tourism, Toy Train, Tiger Hill and Trekkers’ paradise.

{

“The one land that all men desire to see, and having seen once-by even a glimpse would not give that glimpse for the shows of the rest of the world combined”

{

Originally just a cluster of villages that was administered intermittently by Nepal and Sikkim, Darjeeling grew in prominence during the mid 19th century when, because of its climate, the British first established a hill station there after leasing it from the Chogyal of Sikkim and later discovered that the area was particularly well suited for tea plantations.

Tiger Hill Situated at an altitude of 2590 meters (8482 ft.) and 13 kilometers from the town, this spot has earned international fame for the magnificent view of the sunrise over the "Kanchanjunga" and the great eastern Himalayan Mountains. Even Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, is visible from here. The hesitant rays of the early morning sun paint these peaks in pale gold.

On a clear day, Kurseong is visible to the south and in the distance, along with Teesta River, Mahanadi River, Balason River and Mechi River meandering down to the south.Chumal Rhi mountain of Tibet, 84 miles away as the crow flies, looks like a great rounded mass over the snowy Chola Range. One comes face to face with this peak of superb beauty from Phari Jong which is 129 miles away from Darjeeling.

The first rays of the sun shoot ahead and shed light upon the twin peaks of Kangchenjunga painting it pink and then bathing it in a beautiful orange colour. From Tiger Hill, Mount Everest (29,002’) is just visible, peeping out through two other peaks standing by its side. Makalu (27,799’) looks higher than Mt. Everest, owing to the curve in the horizon, as it is several miles closer than Everest. The distance in straight line from Tiger Hill to Everest is 107 miles.

Story Time A Squirrel in a Winter Night The squirrel became active and found the holes in the roof of the hut. The old man slept again. As the day breaks out, the old man woke up and found searched for the squirrel in vain. He thought that it had gone back to the forest. He became busy with his daily chores. Yo u a r e aware that during winter the trees shed leaves and make the birds and other small animals that live on them to face cold nights. One cold night a squirrel found it difficult to bear the cold. It was on a search for a place that can protect it from the cold. It ran into the parasol of a hut that belongs to an old man who lives on the outskirts of the forest. As soon as the squirrel started moving in the parasol of his hut the old man heard the sound of it, came out and found the squirrel shivering with cold. He extended his hand and waved his fingers to come on to it. The squirrel for a moment kept quite and it recalled what all it had seen this old man doing earlier. It appeared from this recalling that this old man is a good one. It slowly crawled onto the hand of the old man who caressed it with his another hand and took it in side. It was very warmth inside the hurt and it made the squirrel stop shivering soon and fall asleep. It slept for more than three hours and woke up with the sound of the cupboard door opened by the old man. The old man noticed this and came near the squirrel with a hot cup of tomato soup. He fed the squirrel with the spoon and emptied the cup.

As he was about to rest for a nap after the lunch, he heard a noise on the top of the roof. He looked up and found that the holes on the roof are being filled with a lump of fiber. He went out to find out who was at work and saw the squirrel seriously filling the holes one after the other first with the fiber and topping it with a big leaf meticulously. The old man came inside and started doing some thing. The squirrel on the top of the roof completed its job and entered the hut to find out if it missed any hole. The old man thanked the squirrel and offered a cup of hot milk. The squirrel drank it merrily. The old man asked, ‘how did get the fiber and the leaves to fill all the holes at once?’ I came out in the morning when you were still sleeping, started collecting the fiber and leaves from the nearby creeper in small quantities and brought them to the rooftop. Once I felt I had enough material to fill the holes I started doing the job that I know well. Though you are a small animal you have a big mind to think and great strength to do the job. I thank you for your kind help. You can live with me, if you want – said the old man. The squirrel agreed to it by waving its tail and the head in joy. Indeed the holes were well filled and the rainfall that occurred a couple of days later made it further firm and there was no leakage in the hut.

They lived together for a long time in the same hut.
