6 novel ways to celebrate

ow do you celebrate Diwali? By lighting diyas, bursting crackers and eating sweets! But as we do this every year, how about bringing in a positive change this time, which will help people around as well?

Traditional way to save electricity

Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights. So this time let's decorate our houses with traditional lamps and diyas rather bulbs. This was how in earlier times, people touched up their homes with cotton wicks dipped in ghee or oil. This will help you save electricity as well. This will add a traditional stroke with social responsibility in the festival.

Food wise

There are many people who cannot afford even one square meal so, how can they afford Diwali celebrations? In this season cut short your list of crackers and use that money in buying them food. Your joy will be doubled and your

kitty will brim over with blessings and wishes.

Celebrate with a new expression

Our country is a blend of several religions and festivals too. Then why not celebrate this Festival of Lights with our Muslim, Christian and Sikh friends? Use this opportunity to introduce one culture to another. Such an act will encourage unity and teach new morals to your kids.

Make a new family

Diwali is family time. But what about those elders and kids who have no families. Wouldn't it be nice if we all could take out some time this Diwali to meet them. There are several old age

homes and orphanages dotting the city so finding them shouldn't be a problem. This is the time to exchange your happiness with their gloominess. So go ahead and put a smile on at least one such pretty face.

Have a healthy Diwali

Post Diwali pollution is always on an all-time high despite there being a ban on crackers. Say no to crackers if you haven't done so already and gift saplings to friends and relatives along with sweets. This effort will sweeten the celebrations of your loved ones. Plants are great for a pure and positive environment.

Decorate the neighbourhood

Every year we paint and touch up our homes. But no one pays attention to that garbage dump in the corner. It stinks to the high heaven and is a veritable house of all ills. Have it cleaned up and painted afresh. At least for sometime, flies and mosquitoes will be less. Let's join hands to clean the society as well as it will encourage positive atmosphere in neighborhood and double the joy of festivity.

Spice up your Diwali

Give your home a makeover: For food lovers: You don’t have to buy expensive furniture to give your home a new look. To start with, try some innovative ways to make a difference, such that it looks welcoming. Use deep coloured floor rugs as wall rugs; utilize your old zari saris as drapes for the windows. “Decorate your bedroom in bright colours such as plum for bedsheets, rugs and pillows; ensure that the lamp shade is in the same shade of purple or deep red,” advises interior decorator Payal Kapur. You could also use aromatic candles all over the home.

Ditch all your diet plans and indulge. Invite close friends and family over for dinner and lay out a rich spread comprising of a Roganjosh and Raseeli biryani. Do up your table in an innovative manner with your finest cutlery, expensive crystal bowls, dinner sets, that has till now been adorning your dining display. You could also add some creative cocktails served in fine glasses. Your guests will not want to leave for sure!

It’s gifting time:

Instead of the run-of-the-mill gift items such as chocolates, dry fruits or home accessories, create a personalised album for your dear ones. Pull out pictures of cherished moments with brief notes attached on each page. If you can go back to the black and white era, it will be even more dramatic and more thoughtful. It’ll be a gift remembered for a lifetime.

Time to dress up:

Take out your traditional outfits and give them a spin. “Team up a heavily embroidered kurti Compile a festive playlist: with a western skirt or wear a backless choli or a Spend time and record a CD with catchy tunes. Popular hits from the 60s and 70s spaghetti top with a sari,” says fashion designer always work, especially the festive numbers. And towards the end of the evening Ritu Kumar. Know what looks good on you and you can add some romantic numbers for all the couples in the house to cosy up to. highlight areas you would like to flaunt.

A four times bigger Taj in Dubai

evelopers in Dubai are reportedly planning to construct a replica of the famous Taj Mahal, which would be over four times bigger than the original monument. The developers said that Taj Arabia, an imitation of the 360-year-old marble mausoleum that took Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan almost 22 years to build, will be constructed in a span of just two years. The billion-dollar project will be set in the heart of the 41-million sq ft Falcon City of Wonders on the Emirates Road. Taj Arabia will be symbolic of 'love and romance' just like the Taj Mahal and will celebrate the union of couples by serving as the world's grandest wedding destination."Marriage is a celebration. It needs to be announced and glorified. Currently Dubai is not regarded as a wedding destination. People go to Bali and other exoticplaces to marry. Now they will come to Taj Arabia," Gulf News quoted Arun Mehra, chairman of the subdevelopers of the mega project, as saying. According to the report, Taj Arabia will be a five-star hotel property with 300 rooms, and will be flanked by seven mixed-use buildings, two of which will have 200 serviced apartments. "Taj Arabia will not be a 100 per cent replica as it has a different purpose. That said, we definitely want to create the same spirit

Australias AustraliasCommunity CommunityMagazine Magazine

of love and passion in today's moderntimes when divorce rates are fast picking up," Mehra said. Dubai's Falcon City of Wonders, an integrated mega city shaped to represent the falcon which is the emblem of UAE's heritage, will include several historical and modern icons of architecture from around the world such as the Pyramids, HangingGardens,Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China, and Leaning Tower of Pisa, the report said. When asked for his reaction, an official in the UP Tourism department commented on condition of anonymity, "This is not the first time a replica of the Taj Mahal is being built, there was one in Dubai built at the cost of some 14 crore rupees. But the idea of a hotel, it is an interesting idea and sure to be popular with those who have destination weddings on their minds." What would have Shah Jahan said to the proposed replica of the monument, we will never know. However, not everyone we spoke to was as excited as the UP Tourism official. There's something not so awe-inspiring about rip-offs, but as one person said, they make good commercial sense.

The billion-dollar Taj Arabia, with 10 large bedrooms, a hall and 200 serviced apartments, is being pegged as the world’s grandest wedding destination. But not everybody is excited about the idea.

This is not justified!

I have forever held the opinion that we should never duplicate a monument. Because by doing that we will only end up diluting the importance. Actually, it's like the concept of a museum - one has to strive to maintain the authenticity of that piece of architecture. And what those people, whose idea this is, don't understand is that the Taj Mahal is actually a mausoleum, so how can any sort of celebration, leave alone a shaadi, happen there? Don't they realize they will be putting up an atrocity! This is not justified, it should not be done. - Asheesh Srivastava, conservation architect, currently involved in the conservation project of the Taj Mahal's buffer zone

This is piracy!

I was fortunate to have shot extensively in Agra and near the Taj Mahal while filming Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and I must say I was fortunate to have experienced the beauty of the Taj first hand. It's a marvelous architecture with such great history. And yes, I too read that piece of news this morning about developers planning a replica of the Taj. This is ridiculous. I mean, it's almost like piracy. And worse, to me it sounds as if by making a replica, that too meant to primarily host events and weddings, it is like mocking the monument. - Ali Abbas Zafar, filmmaker

Australias AustraliasCommunity CommunityMagazine Magazine

Can we stop replicas from coming up?

In these times of commercialization, how do you control something like this from happening? For instance, you have the entire Venice city being replicated at a casino in Macau. But does it take away from the charm of the original? No. Nothing can replace the sanctity of the real Taj Mahal, and a replica can definitely not undermine the greatness with which the original was conceptualised. Also, a heritage site will remain one no matter how many replicas of it come up around the world. - Vipul Varshney, architect and member of INTACH

There’s no fun if the Taj comes to you

The Taj Mahal is a special monument. I mean, I kept a viewing of it as a birthday surprise for my wife. And as for building a hotel as a replica of the Taj Mahal, all I have to say is that there are some people who love to have fresh fruits on their table which they can enjoy the smell and taste of. And then there are others who like to keep the plastic ones to appreciate the beauty... There’s no fun if theTaj comes to you for you to see. The fun is in going to the Taj Mahal to have a look! - Prakash Raj, actor

eepika Padukone bagged the role of the female lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela (working title) after talks with Kareena Kapoor didn’t materialise. And although the film’s male lead is “disappointed” about not getting to work with Bebo, Ranveer Singh feels Deepika is “the closest” the makers have got to finding the perfect Leela.

& She is learning Garba for ‘Ram Leela’ Deepika Padukone is busy as a bee these days. From spending time with co-star Ranveer Singh to getting comfortable with the actor before shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, to rehearsing her Garba steps vigorously for the five to six garba song-and-dances that she would have to perform in ‘Ram Leela’ -- her schedule is quite packed. For the last one week, she has been trying to master the Gujarati dance form, Garba, and it isn’t as easy as it sounds. The perfectionist that he is, Bhansali has brought over traditional Garba dancers from Gujarat to teach the Garba in the traditional way to Deepika and Richa Chadda. Rehearsals are on every evening at Juhu here. “Garba is a frenetic, almost violent form of dancing. Bhansali didn’t want the filmy Garba. He wanted the real thing. So he got a couple of traditional Garba dancers from Gujarat to Mumbai to teach Deepika and Richa the real Garba,” said a source.

“She definitely looks the part better than anyone else. When Bhansali sir and I started working on the film a few months ago, we browsed through lots of books on rural Gujarat. He would often point to pictures of traditional Gujarati girls and say, ‘This is what Leela looks like’. They are slender, dusky and have sharp features,” says Ranveer. The actor, who has already started shooting for the film in Gujarat, adds, “It will be exciting to see her in a new avatar because she has mostly played urban roles. Having worked in half-a-dozen films, she has grown in leaps and bounds as an actor. And finally, she has proved herself with Cocktail. And after speaking to her, I’ve realised that she is eager to do roles that require real performances.” At the same time, Ranveer is also “looking forward to working with Bebo”. “I found out that she wasn’t doing the film right after my birthday, and it was a big bummer. I hope I get an opportunity to work with her in the future,” says the actor, before quashing rumours of his 4 am friendship with his co-star. “I don’t know Deepika very well. But we’ll be shooting an intense love story over the next one year, so it would help the film if we got to know each other better. We’re just trying to do that.”

The only Indian style of dancing that Deepika knows is Kathak, which she learnt during ‘Om Shanti Om’. Gujarati folk is totally alien to her, but she is said to be picking it fast. It is Richa, with her sore knee, who’s finding the going a bit tough. “Deepika is very athletic and very swift on her feet. So is Richa. But Richa suffered a knee injury while doing an action scene for a film called ‘Tamanchey’ and had to undergo knee surgery. So the aggressive Garba steps are not being kind to her knees,” the source added. Richa has now gone into intense physio-therapy to get her steps right. Deepika and Richa play two close friends Leela and Rasila in ‘Ram Leela’, and they have been spending quite a lot of time in each other’s company.

To hear from him on my birthday was not just expected, it was a rare privilege." Adding to her joy was the fact that the Pope'e greeting named her as 'Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar'. "Not many people address me with my father's name. That felt good. I am proud to be known as Master Deenanath Mangeshkar's daughter," said Lataji emotionally. Compounding her joy at this show of benediction from the top-man at the Vatican was the fact that Lataji's sister

Asha Bhosle joined the Nightingale for an evening of birthday celebrations restricted to family members only. The family dinner hosted by Lataji's niece Rachana Shah (daughter of Meena Mangeshkar) was attended by the entire Mangeshkar clan, including of course Asha Bhosle. “There were about 60 of us,” said one of the family members. “Didi and Ashatai spent the whole evening chatting and joking around. That evening we were what we are: a closely-knit family. Didi’s favourite food daal-dhokli and paani-puri were served along with Maharashtrian cuisine and Chinese and Italian food for the youngsters. Actually Didi’s birthday celebrations started a day before her birthday on Thursday and went on

until Saturday when Ganesh Visarjan happened. She hasn’t had much sleep in the last three days. But she doesn’t care. She’s happy that the entire family was with her.”

My family is my wonderful gift:

Amitabh Bachchan

ď ť Fan gets Big B’s name inked, the megastar feels blessed

At 70, Amitabh Bachchan has romanced the silver screen for more than four decades. He has also successfully hosted six seasons of Kaun Banega Crorepati.

"I look forward to spending time with my family. All the gifts and presents that I needed have already come my way - the blessings of my parents, which I consider the largest gift, and their presence in my life through all the upbringing that they gave me," Amitabh told IANS in an interview at his office, Janak. "My family - my wife Jaya and the two wonderful gifts that she gave me - (son) Abhishek and (daughter) Shweta and now the bahu (daughter-in-law) in the house, Aishwarya, and the little (granddaughter) Aaradhya... so these are my wonderful gifts and no one can replace them," added the megastar. No wonder his milestone birthday is the talk of the town. If the celebrations were in his hands, the busy star would have wanted some rare, quiet time with his family. But close ones of Big B want to make it big - reportedly with a huge dinner party Oct 10, an art show, poster exhibition and book launch on the big day. "My family this time round wants to have celebration on my birthday. I have heard that it might be celebrated on Oct 10 at night. I absolutely don't have any idea about it and nobody is ready to disclose anything about it (to me)," he said.

Even though he wants to keep it simple, he doesn't want to spoil the celebratory mood of loved ones. "I just run away from this day. Whenever my birthday comes closer, I inform my family members not to do anything special because I don't like it. A small and peaceful family time is more than enough for me. "But many a time, one also has to think about one's wife; so this time round she (Jaya) has thought that there should be some celebration. So she is only doing everything, I have not been informed about any preparations. All I know is something is cooking," added the 69-year-old, who came to be known as Bollywood's angry young man in the 1970s.

Australias Australias Community Community Magazine Magazine

Amitabh Bachchan was speechless when one of his fans from Gujrat got his autograph tattooed on his hand. He says that it is humbling to see such an expression from his followers.

"When you are a kid, you enjoy birthdays not because of anything else but because you are going to get presents and gifts. You look forward to the time what your parents are going to give you. "But as you grow older the whole concept of maturity keeps in. When I entered films, other people were more interested in celebrating my birthday than I was. I still feel it's another year gone by. "I don't see why there should be so much fuss, but sometimes you have to go with what friends, well wishers and family wish to do for you and you comply with that." That's just what the megastar would do for his special day this time. Anil and Tina Ambani to co-host grand birthday gala for Big B Good friends Anil and Tina Ambani will co-host Bollywood's gala of the year along with Jaya Bachchan on October 11 when Amitabh Bachchan turns 70. Sources have revealed the party will be hosted at a leading Mumbai 5-star, and names doing the rounds right now suggest it will be either Grand Hyatt or JW Marriott. Abu-Sandeep designing surprise for Big B's 70th b'day Mega-celebrations are being planned for megastar Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday Oct 11. Designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are assisting the veteran actor's wife Jaya in creating a "big surprise", and they are even designing a special outfit for Big B. "It is a big surprise. I can't reveal everything right now. We are designing something special for Mr. Bachchan. You will get to know about everything as you get closer to the big day. Things will get clearer as we will get closer to the event," Khosla told IANS.

The funky side of

"

Diwali fashion It's that dress-up time of year. When jewellery is brought out, sarees and ethnic wear matched and accessorised, and desi fashionistas go on a massive shopping spree to look glam for the nonstop partying. This year is no different. But along with the Swarovski-studded designer chiffons and silks and traditional kurta pajamas, the city's A-listers are taking a funkier route when it comes to party wear. "People aren't so hellbent on wearing traditional Indian clothes anymore, they're doing their own style thing," agrees design pro Manoviraj Khosla, "Women still wear Indian stuff, and men kurtapajamas, but on the whole people are dressing like it's for regular trendy parties." The mood and outfits change from party to party. "A traditional Diwali card party with diyas everywhere might have people preferring more ethnic wear. But for parties with deejays and dancing, it's a more casual look." The golden rule this Diwali seems to be that there are no rules, he adds. "It's a mix of anything and everything modified sherwanis with trousers or jeans give men a traditional yet funky look. Colours vary — d a r k lime o r

"

shocking pink pintucked-kurtas or a black kurta with an orange churidar — that hint of colour giving it a quirky touch," he says. For women, kurtis are still paramount, says Ravina Belani. "This year, it's not just sarees. It's also longer kurtis — tunics with high slits — worn with tights, churidars, jeans or crushed skirts," she says, "Whatever the style, people want outfits with lots of work — shadow work, brocade and sequins. As for sarees, funky animal prints teamed with sexy blouses, give a western slant to an Indian look." For Seema Malhotra, there's nothing quite like the saree. "For the Indian woman, the saree is a classic — most exotic and sensual. If draped differently and worn with interesting blouses, it can make you feel like Amrapali." Recently back from Dubai, Seema found women there are also into jewel-worked kurtis with jeans. "These are still very Indian but have a modern feel to it — a smarter fusion silhouette that does away with bulky salwars and dupattas." Finally, style is all about what you're comfortable wearing, says design expert Manav Gangwani, "You must evaluate the event you're dressing for — is it casual or formal? A woman can wear a saree with Swarovski crystals, while her partner

can wear a jacket with jeans. A Diwali dinner party can be both glamorous and comfortable." People are still going the ethnic route, but the funky touch is added by teaming bandhgalas and sherwanis with jeans. "That looks formal yet trendy. And I love my women in sarees, whether they're 19 or 50." His favourite celebrities — Raveena, Amisha, Sophie and Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan wear 'understated' styles, he says. But doesn't Diwali fashion tend to be more flash and a teeny bit overboard? "Celebs can afford to look understated. Their faces are so recognisable — that tends to be the 'overboard' factor!"

Accessories on this seasone for men and women Embroidered belts, big ceramic beads in solid colours studded over a belt or waist bands go well with a kurta. Wear a solid coloured, crush chunari around the neck.

Jhootis or mojris look great with traditional ensembles. Depending on your outfit, you could also opt for Western closed shoes or sandals

Accessories are essential, but the key is not to overdo it. Chandelier earrings are in. But if you think they have been overplayed, go for long, slim earrings with a drop or two at the end, made of crystal. “Jewellery has a lot of colour this season. Crystal is great,” says Archana Kochchar. Try diamonds or stones with a sheen of colour like topaz, aqua marine, amethyst, crystals, etc. You can accessories with embroidered handbags and embroidered belts or waistbands. Footwear like mojris add to the traditional getup. You can also opt for wedge heels or metallic coloured heels like bronze and grey or stilettos.

Formal wear for men and women For men “Men are experimenting with fashion and colours,” says designer Krishna Mehta. The colour palate has shifted from conventional to contemporary. Earlier, choices of colours for men were limited to white, maroon and black. Now, orange, red, sky blue, navy blue and rust are in. The long, embroidered kurta with traditional bottoms is still perfect for Diwali. As is the flowing Pathani suit or the sherwani. A more contemporary choice is the short kurti, a cross between a kurta and shirt. The kurti has the band collar (similar to a Chinese collar) and is the length of a normal shirt. Kurtas/ short kurtis can with worn with Aligarh pants or a churidar. Or you could pair them with jeans for a semi-formal look. The festive male ensemble is made with flowing fabrics like silk or blended silk and cotton. Kurtas are embroidered with coloured threads and other embellishments like metallic coins, etc. The ensembles are made with block prints and surface textured fabric (which have a selfdesign). The male outfit’s silhouette has also got a makeover. Earlier, kurtas were a straight fit. Now, a wider range of silhouettes is available -- open V-necks or Engrakha (slit sides with strings to hold it together), overlapping fronts, scooped up neck, etc.

Australias Community Magazine

For women The traditional, heavily embroidered sari is still popular for the Diwali puja and evening dinner. Another choice is the contemporary take on the sari -- cocktail saris made of very thin fabric like chiffon, georgette or even synthetic flowing material that cling to and accentuate your figure. Salwar kameezes and churidar kurtas are other great options. The Patiala fit continues to remain popular. The kurta should be about knee-length or longer and well fitted on the waist. The short kurti or kaftans are also good options. Club these with harem pants, with added narrowed bands at the bottom. Pairing the short kurti or kaftan with asymmetrical skirts, layered skirts, bias cut skirt, etc, is a great fusion look. The long kurta or tunic can be paired with denim jeans or linen trousers. Bejewelled t-shirts or backless tops with skirts is another cool match. Pair bias cut skirts with spaghetti shrugs (short jacket that reach just below the bust line). The butterfly skirt is a many layered skirt made with thin material like chiffon or georgette. Wear it with a fitting embroidered top or kurti.

Rich in taste, texture and satisfying, Indian food, or at least that part of Indian food that is prepared with minimal oil and healthy cooking methods, is often considered one of the healthiest cuisines in the world. But, what exactly do we mean by 'healthy' within the Indian food context? Today, Dr. Simran Saini, Weight Loss Management Consultant at Fortis Hospital, tells us about the top 7 staple foods in the Indian diet and how healthy they truly are.

Health facts about

Indian foods

Roti or Chappati:

Usually a roti is made from wheat flour. However, ideally it should contain a combination of soyabean, black gram, and a small portion of bran as well. These can be grounded together in equal ratios to make flour. A source of energy in the body, roti is basically a source of carbohydrate and an ideal 25 grams based medium chapatti would be 60 Calories.

White Rice:

White Rice is a cereal grain and polished form of brown rice which has the cover intact. Ideally, brown rice is better for health as it contains fiber apart from carbohydrates. A good source of energy and fiber, 200 grams of white rice would approx contain 420 calories.

Curries:

The Indian curry’s base is crucial. The oil isn’t. Most curry recipes call for plenty of oil, which immediately puts off those of us who are trying to control our daily fats intake. Ideally, blend or roast whole spices for better flavour without using unhealthy ingredients. Replace the cream with yogurt, or natural coconut milk and use a healthy cooking method for it and you are good to go.

Curd:

Curd is basically a milk product made by fermentation of milk with certain bacteria. Ideally, one should go for curd made from toned or less fat quality of milk. Yogurt is good for the digestive system as the bacteria present in yogurt improve digestion. 250 grams of curd made from toned milk would approx serve 150 Calories. It is a good source of calcium apart from the fact that it provides carbohydrates and proteins to the body.

Lentils:

The lentil is an edible pulse. It is a bushy annual plant of the legume family grown for the lens shaped seeds. Lentils provide about 30% of their calories(240 Calories in 230 grams) from protein. Proteins include the essential amino acids isoleucine and lysine. They also contain dietary fiber, folate, vitamin B1, and minerals such as iron. Thus, lentils help in many major functions of the body including regulating our blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

plant from the capscain family. They have amazing health benefits for the human body. 100 grams of chilli red peppers have hardly 40 Kcal. But, chilli peppers contain the chemical compound capsaicin, which has anti-bacterial, anti-carcinogenic, analgesic and antidiabetic properties. They are also rich in a number of Vitamins A, B, C and many phytonutrients too.

Paneer:

Surgery?

Negative Effects of Cosmetic Surgery

C

osmetic surgery might have emerged as an easy fixing solution to improving your physical attributes, but the reality is not just limited to that. It is crucial to do your homework well and know what to expect when you go in for a surgical procedure like this. Undoubtedly, there are positives too. For example, an accomplished cosmetic surgical process can actually improve your looks a great deal, thus making you much more confident about the way the world perceives you. In addition, such surgical procedures often become mandatory for people working in visual mediums such as the movie business. Actors and actresses are often required to go under the knife in order to improve their screen presence and persona. Despite such apparent advantages however, plastic surgery should ideally be a well contemplated, cautious decision.

Cosmetic Surgery: Negatives To begin with, the costs associated with a cosmetic surgical procedure can be heavy enough to drain your savings. Although, there are numerous service providers willing to extend their services to you at competitive rates, even the most cost effective ones can be pretty expensive. Apart from the costs associated with the operative procedures, you might need to spend more on appointing an anaesthesiologist, hospital charges in case extended stay is required due to post operative complications, post-operative medication and care and quite a few of such unforeseen expenditures. In addition, unless you are opting for reconstructive surgery, the expenses are not covered by insurance. One of the biggest problems could actually be related to finding a suitable surgeon for entrusting this responsibility. Checking on his professional record, medical accreditations, hospital affiliations etc. are mandatory to ensure a good choice. Remember, the fate of the surgery is solely dependent on the quality of surgeon you have chosen Cases of cosmetic surgery jobs gone wrong are often associated with deep rooted psychological repercussions. Sometimes, the physical features might be distorted to such an extent that the patient might sink into permanent depression and might even have to seek medications and treatments for the same. Check out some photographs of “plastic surgery jobs gone wrong” on the web, to understand this better. Cosmetic surgery negative effects can also be related to huge amounts of blood loss during the operative procedure. Plastic surgery might also lead to organ failure in certain cases. Allergic reactions to the medications prescribed during the post-operative phase can also be pretty fatal and can keep you confined to the bed for weeks. A cosmetic surgery procedure will keep you away from work for quite a while. Therefore, you would need to arrange for leaves and replacements, if required. It is extremely important to keep all these disadvantages in perspective when you opt for cosmetic surgery. Remember, if you must go for it, suitable preparation is mandatory. You need to have a complete damage control mechanism in place so that repercussions can be handled without delay. Although, negative effects of cosmetic surgery are many, they shouldn’t be intimidating you into making a compromise

FESTIVAL FESTIVAL FESTIVAL FESTIVAL FESTIVAL FESTIVAL FESTIVAL FESTIVAL

This festival starts at the 1st day of Muharram and lasts for 10 days until 10th of Muharram. Muharram is the first month of Islamic calendar.

The festival commemorates the martyrdom of the prophet Mohammed's grandson- Hazrat Imam Hussein. It is celebrated with great fervour by the Muslims especially the Shia community. Tazias, glittering replicas of the Martyr's tomb, are carried in procession through the streets. The Tazias of Lucknow and Hyderabad are noted for their splendour. In places like Lucknow, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, grand scale processions are held. People beat their chest in mourning to the tune of beating drums and chants 'Ya Hussain'. Devotees beat themselves and inflict wounds on their own bodies. During on this month, while on a journey, Hazrat Imam Hussain, his family members and a number of his followers were surrounded by the forces of Yazid, the Muslim ruler of the time. During the siege, they were deprived of food and water and many of them were put to death. The incident happened at a place called Karbala in Iraq in 61st year after Hijra. This dispute was result of a disagreement among Muslims on the question of succession after the demise of Hazrat Ali, the fourth caliph. Some sects of Muslims hold meetings where speeches are made on the happenings of Karbala and on the lives of martyrs. The Shias, however, observe this festival in a different fashion. As Muharram, the first month ofthe Muslim year, approaches, they put on black clothes, as black is regarded as a colour of mourning. Majalis (assemblies) are held every day during the first nine days where Shia orators relate the incident of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his party in a great detail. On the 10th day of Muharram, large processions are formed and the devoted followers parade the streets holding banners and carrying models of the mausoleum of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his people, who

fell at Karbala. They show their grief and sorrow by inflicting wounds on their own bodies with sharp metal tied to chain with which they scourge themselves. This is done in order to depict the sufferings of the martyrs. It is a sad occasion and everyone in the procession chants “Ya Hussain, with loud wails of lamentation. Generally a white horse beautifully decorated for the occasion, is also included in the procession, to mark the empty mount of Hazrat Imam Husain after his martyrdom. During these first ten days of Muharram, drinking posts are also set up temporarily by the Shia community where water and juices are served to all, free of charge.

BALI

The island of Bali has an area of only 5,632 square kilometers (2,175 square miles) and measures just 55 miles (90 kilometers) along the north-south axis and less than about 90 miles (140 kilometers) from East to West. Because of this it's no problem to explore the island on day tours. You can go wherever you want on the island and return to your hotel or villa in the evening. Located only two kilometers east of Jawa, Bali's climate, flora and fauna are quite similar to its much larger neighbour. The island is famous for its beautiful landscape. A chain of six volcanoes, between 1,350 meters and 3,014 meters high, stretches from west to east. There are lush tropical forests, pristine crater lakes, fast flowing rivers and deep ravines, picturesque rice terraces, and fertile vegetable and fruit gardens. The beaches in the South consist of white sand, beaches in other parts of the island are covered with gray or black volcanic sand.

WHAT MAKES BALI SO SPECIAL ???

There is the combination of the friendly people, the natural attractions, the great variety of things to see and do, the year-round pleasant climate, and the absence of security problems. And then there is Bali's special "magic", which is difficult to explain. As soon as you step off the plane you might sense the difference. In the villages you'll notice the quietness and wisdom in old people's faces, and the interest and respect in the young's. Old men sit at the road side caressing their fighting cocks. Beautifully dressed women walk proudly through rice fields and forests carrying offerings on their heads to the next temple. There is the smell of flowers, and in the distance you hear the sound of gamelan music. Gods and spirits have been an important part of Bali's daily life for hundreds of years. Gunung Agung – Bali's holy mountain – is internationally regarded as one of the eight "Chakra" points of the world. This may be more than an coincident. Watch out, the moment you feel the magic of this island, you're addicted for the rest of your life. The island of Bali is part of the Republic of Indonesia and is located 8 to 9 degrees south of the equator between Java in the West and Lombok and the rest of the Lesser Sunda Islands (Sumbawa, Flores, Sumba and Timor) in the East. Flying time to Jakarta is about 1.5 hours, to Singapore and Perth (Australia) 2.5 and 3 hours, to Hong Kong about 4.5 hours, and to Sydney/Melbourne about 5.5 to 6 hours.

BALI FLORA:

The wide variety of tropical plants is surprising. You'll see huge banyan trees in villages and temple grounds, tamarind trees in the North, clove trees in the highlands, acacia trees, flame trees, and mangroves in the South. In Bali grow a dozen species of coconut palms and even more varieties of bamboo. And there are flowers, flowers everywhere. You'll see (and smell the fragrance of) hibiscus, bougainvillea, jasmine, and water lilies. Magnolia, frangipani, and a variety of orchids are found in many front yards and gardens, along roads, and in temple grounds. Flowers are also used as decorations in temples, on statues, as offerings for the gods, and during prayers. Dancers wear blossoms in their crowns, and even the flower behind the ear of your waitress seems natural in Bali

FAUNA:

Elephants and tigers don’t exist any more in Bali since early this century. Wildlife, however, includes various species of monkeys, civets, barking deer and mouse deer, and 300 species of birds including wild fowl, dollar birds, blue kingfishers, sea eagles, sandpipers, white herons and egrets, cuckoos, wood swallows, sparrows, and starlings. You can watch schools of dolphins near Lovina, Candi Dasa, and Padangbai. Divers will see many colorful coral fish and small reef fish, moray eels, and plankton eating whale sharks as well as crustaceans, sponges, and colorful coral along the east coast and around Menjangan Island near Gilimanuk.

CLIMATE:

You can expect pleasant day temperatures between 20 to 33 degrees Celsius or 68 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. From December to March, the West monsoon can bring heavy showers and high humidity, but usually days are sunny and the rains start during the night and pass quickly. From June to September the humidity is low, and it can be quite cool in the evenings. During this time of the year, you’ll have hardly any rain in the coastal areas. Even when it rains in most parts of Bali you can often enjoy sunny days on the “Bukit”, the hill south of Jimbaran Beach. On the other hand, in Ubud and the mountains you must expect cloudy skies and showers throughout the year (this is why the international weather reports for “Denpasar” or “Bali” mention showers and rain storms during all times of the year). In higher regions such as in Bedugul or Kintamani you’ll also need either a sweater or jacket after the sun sets.

But we should also remember the fact that Indians are prone to diabetes and so it is always advisable to keep the intake of sugar and starch to its minimal. It is also advisable to stay away from sweets that use chemical preservatives, because the intake of such preservatives can cause damage to our kidneys and liver. It can also cause asthma attacks and cancer. It is important to avoid sweets that have silver coating. Always wear slippers while dealing with explosives and never try to do anything to a cracker apart from lighting it from a safe distance and when kids are allowed to burn crackers, always make sure that it happens under an adults supervision. It is also not important to not burst crackers in crowded areas or on the roadsides, because that might prove to be dangerous for bystanders or for the passing public. Wear earplugs while exposed to explosive crackers. It might sound a bit fancy, but if we ignore it the excessive noise might damage our ears in the long run.
