Home Attendants: Plan for Retirement with an Online Pension Estimate from the Fund As an 1199SEIU Home Attendant, you are eligible for a defined benefit pension when you retire*—something that fewer and fewer workers today receive. When you retire, you may earn this benefit, which is based on the pension credits you’ve earned during your years as a member working for a contributing employer.** You don’t make any out-of-pocket contributions to receive this pension benefit. To be sure that you receive all that you’re entitled to once you’re ready to retire, it’s important that the Fund has the most up-to-date work history for you. And now that you can request a pension estimate online, updating your personal information is easier than ever. Just visit our website, www.1199SEIUBenefits.org, log on to “My Account” (or create an account if you don’t have one) and from the “My Pension” tab, choose “Request & Review Pension Estimate” from the dropdown menu. You will be able to view all your personal data and update it, if necessary. Then click the “Request New Pension Estimate” button, follow the steps shown and you’re done! You’ll receive a pop-up message telling you that your request has been received, and in 48 hours you will be able to log on to “My Account” to view your estimate. Six months before you’re ready to retire, call the Pension Department at (646) 473-8666 to make an appointment with a Pension Counselor, who will guide you through the retirement process, help you fill out your application, and explain your retirement and payment options. *1199SEIU Home Health Aides are not eligible for the pension benefit. **If you have accumulated five pension credits, you are eligible to receive a pension from the 1199SEIU Home Care Employees Pension Fund. Pension credits are based on how many hours you work per calendar year. Generally, if you work 1,000 hours or more in a calendar year, you will earn one pension credit and one year of vesting service.
