Omar the Centre. He said that time has come when the people of the State have to rise to the occasion by exposing the elements who divide them on different counts for petty power politics. Omar Abdullah said that National Conference represents the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and has always carried forward its agenda for equitable and inclusive development of the State. “We are committed to march ahead on this agenda seeking prosperity, peace and political stability in the State”, he said and added that the track record of NC and its leadership is full of sacrifices for the larger interests of the State. Taking PDP to the task for extending covert and overt support to BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate in the current Lok Sabha Elections Omar Abdullah said that power hungry PDP leadership is out to barter the interests of the State and its people for obtaining blessings of Narendra Modi and BJP which founded this party in the State to act as its extended arm and “B-team”. He said despite fully knowing the ideology and agenda of BJP against Jammu and Kashmir PDP is openly out to provide tactical support to BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. The Working President National Conference asked the people to beware of the double faced PDP leadership who in one or the other garb attempt at creating confusion in the minds of people by flaring up tension and dividing the society on regional and religious lines. Omar Abdullah said that since its inception in the State PDP is nurturing a propagandist approach and using deceptive politics to be in limelight and grab the power. He asked the people to read between the lines and punish the clandestine alliance between BJP and PDP against Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah said that the best way to scuttle this unholy bonhomie between BJP and PDP is that the people of the State should come out in large number in favour of National Conference-Congress candidates and help in bringing a Jammu and Kashmir friendly government in the Centre that would take equal care for growth and development of all sections and all regions of the Country. He said Rahul Gandhi represents this kind of an approach as he symbolizes communal harmony, commitment to all sections of the society and holistic development of India. He said that in Rahul Gandhi Jammu and Kashmir has found its sincere friend who has been always been there to help the State. The rally was also addressed by the President, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, Provincial President NC, Kashmir, Nasir Aslam Wani and various other senior leaders of National Conference and Congress. Police been arrested by police during nocturnal raids in South Kashmir’s Pulwama town after the eruption of clashes on the Polling day. “There is apprehension that some miscreants may try to disrupt the law and order on the day of polling in different assembly segments of Central Kashmir. “We are vigilant and have launched crackdown against those miscreants,” the police official said. Deputy Inspector General North Kashmir Range Ghulam Hasan Bhat told CNS that all arrangements have been made to conduct the coming Parliament elections in North Kashmir peacefully. “There are few restive places like Palhalan, Pattan, Hajin and Sopore and police is ensuring that no untoward incident occurs during the polling day,” he said adding that police is making all efforts to curb those elements who

are inimical to peace. Station House Officer Chadoora Arshid Ahmed told CNS that some miscreants have become habitual of stone-pelting and we are going to take action against those stone-pelters. “Yesterday, scores of stone-pelters attacked CRPF with stones and in this regard we have arrested few youth and formal cases have been registered against them,” he said and identified some of the arrested youth as Showkat Ahmed and Muhammad Ashraf. Reports said that police has also conducting raids in Old City Srinagar, Baramulla, Hajin and Sopore to apprehend all those stone-pelters who according to police are trouble-makers. Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and North Kashmir’s Hajin area of District Baramulla against the random arrests of youth. Reports said that police arrested at least 12 youth during nocturnal raids in different areas of Pulwama town while in Hajin area, police arrested five youth allegedly involved in stone-pelting incidents. One of the youth arrested by police during nocturnal raid at Hajin is a pellet gun victim who had lost his sight of right eye during clashes with police last month. (CNS)

Mufti what is more important is who represents them in the Parliament to be able to deal with the very serious issues facing J&K,” Sayeed said while addressing a series of election rallies in Budgam Assembly segment of Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary constituency. According to a statement issued to KNS, PDP senior Vice-President Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Moulvi Abid Ansari, Rafiq Ah Mir Moulvi Imran Ansari, Saifuddin Bhat and Muntazir Mohi-ud-Dn, Azad Ah Samad, H Razvi, also addressed these rallies. Sayeed said as NC leaders have nothing to show by way of performance or a vision for 21st century J&K, they have adopted a multilevel scare strategy to mislead the voters. “While the party’s Modi-PDP nexus rhetoric is their substitution for a manifesto, enforced boycott is their ground strategy for manipulating polls,” he said and added that PDP on the other hand transformed the political discourse in J&K by piloting successfully and with conviction the crucial issues concerning the State and its people. Sayeed said PDP has not only put the Kashmir issue in a specific and rational political and economic context, but also laid strong foundations for its peaceful resolution in the emerging scenario of the regional and global political realities. “The remarkable feature of the political transformation that transcended on J&K in the post2002 era was that for the first time the State Government came on the forefront of the resolution process. The PDP-led Government, immediately after the 2002 elections, took the centre-stage and drove the peace process from the front,” he said and added that this political transformation accorded fresh credibility to the mainstream parties and public representatives in the State. Ridiculing NC leaders’ comic utterances on PDP-BJP nexus, Sayeed said a diatribe doesn’t behove a party that discarded Prof Saifuddin Soz for having voted against the then BJP government in 1999. Reiterating that PDP would continue to work handin-hand with the progressive and democratic forces in the country to facilitate dignified resolution of JK’s problems, Sayeed asked PDP cadres to prepare for a significant role ahead as the winds of change have already set in across J&K. Addressing the rallies, PDP senior Vice-President Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari lashed out at the Omar Abdullah-led Government for pushing the people into an anarchic and distressing situation and bringing back a sense of insecurity and uncertainty. He said the people have already started running out of patience with this disastrous Government as their miseries are multiplying with every passing day. “Ironically, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and is father Dr Farooq Abdullah are keeping themselves too busy in making hilarious noises on issues that mostly fall out of their domain,” he said and added that the Chief Minister seems to be resorting to such histrionics only to hide his countless failures on the home turf. Ansari said the contrary innocent killings have become the order of the day, power position in Kashmir has deteriorated to the worst levels ever, drinking water has become scarce, treasuries are running dry, pensioners are being denied pension, contractors are crying for payments, daily-wagers and consolidated workers plead for their wages, people are being kept hostage on roads for hours together due to horrific traffic jams and so on and so forth. “I challenge Omar Abdullah to show one single project anywhere in the State which he can claim was pioneered and accomplished by his Government during the past more than 5 years,” he said. He urged people to vote and support Tariq Hameed Karra, PDP candidate for Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary constituency to send a strong representative voice to the Parliament. (KNS)

Farooq Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that Narendra Modi’s talk of development and progress has been exposed as nothing beyond shallow rhetoric given that the BJP manifesto talks about the same old divisive issues of construction of the Ram Mandir, Abrogation of Article 370 and the imposition of a Uniform Civil Code. “What does the Ram Mandir, Article 370 abrogation and imposition of Uniform Civil Code have to do with progress and development?”, Dr. Farooq Abdullah asked. Stating that the people of South Kashmir had punished PDP for its alignment with and endorsement of Narendra Modi, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that PDP fielded its candidates tactically in Jammu to divide the secular, anti-BJP vote in order to directly help the BJP candidates in the fray. “This is no secret anymore - PDP has done everything Modi had asked of it in Jammu probably in liue of a promise of political patronage by Narendra Modi. However, the people of South Kashmir have aptly punished PDP for its secret dealings with Modi and the party is facing a historic rout from South - a rout that will be replicated in North and Central Kashmir as well in the coming days and months”, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Abdullah asked the people to vote in large numbers for the NC-Congress Coalition so that communal forces and their partners within the State are kept at bay and aren’t allowed to succeed in their designs to dilute Article 370 for their personal political goals. Mehbooba

former heartland of the National Conference influence and hoped that Ganderbal would once again lead the state in liberating itself from the antics and

exploitation of Dr Farooq Abdullah who prefers to describe Kashmiris as ‘maha chors’ before filing nomination papers. “With what face is Farooq sahib asking for votes after such defamation” said Mehbooba. Senior party leader Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Abdul Wahid Dar, Zone president Ghulam Rasool Shaheen and others were also accompanying the party president. She said Ganderbal had once, in 2002, established the power of vote in the state which resulted in the first real change in the governance though it lasted for a few years. Mehbooba said the marginalization of the NC between 2002 and 2005 had opened a new window of hope and opportunity not just for J&K but for the entire region as well. “That change established new standards in the state politics and the politicians for the first time felt accountable to the people and MLAs were compelled by the new situation to identify themselves with the people and solve their problems,” she said and added that it is because of the introduction of credible alternative to NC in the shape of the PDP that the people are now able to make a clear choice of their representatives now. The PDP chief said if the people of Ganderbal had not taken bold and courageous decision in 2002 and voted against Omar Abdullah the state would never had realized that change in government could actually bring change in the lives of people. She said almost overnight the state terror promoted by the NC was demolished by the Mufti government by winding up the Task Force, disciplined security forces, disbanding Ikhwanis, scrapping POTA and restoring the dignity of common man. Political prisoners including top separatist leaders were released and the atmosphere of insecurity and random arrests was replaced with accountability of forces, said Mehbooba. Mehbooba said though the PDP made a government in coalition with Congress, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed introduced a new idiom in the state politics that could appeal even the NDA government at the Centre resulting in the famous Vajpayee initiatives in the Indo-Pak relations. A new chapter of openness and hope was started which culminated with the restoration of traditional routes and introducing travel and trade across the LoC. Normalcy returned to villages and cities, business revived, tourists returned to the valley besides such facilities like mobile telephony which Farooq Abdullah government had failed to get in spite of being part of the NDA. She said the process that was stalled by the change in government in 2008 has to be revived to carry forward the resolution efforts between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. “For this it is necessary that Dr Farooq Abdullah is defeated and the NC is once again sent on leave to let the people of J&K focus on fundamental issues,” said Mehbooba. “Together we would script a new destiny for the state which however cannot be done without active participation of Ganderbal,” she added. She said the ruling party knows it well that they don’t have anything substantial to show in the form of performance over the last five years and now they are raking-up misleading slogans, abusing opponents and making false promises to the people to make itself relevant, but that actually is not the case as people have made up their mind to change the political scenario in the state. Protest The doctors at SDH referred her to Lal Ded Hospital Srinagar,” her husband Mehraj-ud-Din Malla told GNS. The protesters alleged that the woman died due to medical negligence and demanded action against the accused doctors. A police team headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Ganderbal, Liyaqat Ahmad, reached the spot and pacified them after which they dispersed. Talking to GNS, the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Shabir Ahmad said that there is no medical negligence in Shameema’s death. Ganderbal represents betrayal of NC: Engineer Rashid Srinagar, April 26: Awami Ittihaad Party President (AIP) and MLA Langate Engineer Rashid has criticized the National Conference, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress for badly exploiting people in the name of farcical slogans of Autonomy and Self-rule. Engineer Rashid expressed concern that the mainstream leadership put unnecessary burden on state coffer for their personal luxuries while common masses continue to suffer on account of lack of basic facilities. Pertinently, Engineer Rashid participated in number of road shows in the Ganderbal District while campaigning for Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) Candidate from Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency Rashid Rahil, an eminent Journalist of Kashmir. “The Jammu & Kashmir State especially the Valley of Kashmir has suffered a lot on account of political uncertainty. Mainstream leaders have adopted a step-motherly attitude when it comes to development of Kashmir while today during my visit to Ganderbal District I can realize that despite always supporting National Conference the Ganderbal District is presenting bleak outlook in terms of the overall development. Ganderbal Township despite being District Headquarter is in shambles and represents the ungrateful and betrayal of National Conference. The cancer of VIP Culture promoted by majority of mainstream leaders has proven a costly affair for common people,” stated Engineer Rashid. Engineer Rashid made it clear that Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA’s) while seeking vote from people ignore the very people by acting as ‘White elephants’ and spending lavish life. “ While the elected representatives spend huge amount on personal luxuries and security the state coffer remains empty and no amount is thus available for development.NC has always tried to hoodwink people by autonomy from several decades and also now PDP by showing the green pastures of autonomy is misleading the people and Congress is also doing nothing,” observed Engineer Rashid. Engineer Rashid made it clear that the day of accountability of selfish politicians by people of Kashmir is very near. (GNS)
