ZANZIBAR LAUNCHES ITS OWN TOURISM AND INVESTMENT SHOW.

The Zanzibar Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, in partnership with the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, proudly announces the inaugural Zanzibar Tourism and Investment Show 2024. Set to be the leading tourism show of its kind in Zanzibar, this landmark event will spotlight Zanzibar's rich tourism and investment opportunities. Under the theme "Promoting Sustainable Tourism, Heritage Preservation, and Investments," the show will take place at the Zanzibar Exhibition Centre - Dimani on October 25th and 26th, 2024. This exciting event will serve as a global stage to showcase Zanzibar's breathtaking beauty, vibrant culture, and immense investment potential, drawing tourists, investors, and industry professionals from around the world.

The Ministry of Tourism and Heritage plans to highlight the event's significance in positioning Zanzibar as a top-tier destination for both visitors and investors in a sustainable manner. The Ministry emphasizes that this show is a pivotal step in placing Zanzibar on the global map as a premier destination and an opportunity for the world to see and invest in the unique offerings of the islands in a sustainable manner.

The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) is emphasizing the dual mission of the event, by celebrating the rich tapestry of Zanzibar’s heritage and culture. The show will unlock not only the treasures of our past but also the boundless opportunities for the future. By fostering a deep appreciation of our history

and traditions, we pave the way for sustainable investment that enriches our local communities and preserves our unique identity. The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism will also showcase the tourism opportunities for visitors and investors as well as indulge in industry seminars and workshops.

The show will feature over 250 high-quality hotels, tour operators, and attractions from Zanzibar, alongside visitors from Tanzania, East Africa, and beyond. Beyond being a spectacular showcase, it will provide fertile ground for investment and offer deep insights into Zanzibar's thriving market through exclusive workshops and seminars. Cruise Ship Arrivals Boost Zanzibar Tourism!

Zanzibar is experiencing a delightful surge in tourism with the recent arrival of several cruise ships, bringing a wave of eager visitors to its beautiful shores.

MS Zuiderdam arrived from USA with 1,099 tourists on board, staying from April 8-9, 2024. These visitors will explore popular sites such as Stone Town, Spice Farms, Jozani Forest, and Prison Island.

Silver Cloud docked at Malindi Port with 200 tourists. Before reaching Malindi, the ship stopped in Mkoani Pemba and Misali Island, allowing tourists to experience various attractions in Pemba before exploring Unguja.

INSIGNIA MAJURO arrived on May 23, 2024, bringing 370 tourists for a one-day visit to Stone Town, the spice farms, and Jozani Forest.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPLORE from USA also docked at Malindi Port, carrying 140 tourists for a one-day adventure. Visitors will explore Stone Town, the Spice Tour, and Jozani Forest.

MICE Tourism Enhances Zanzibar's Appeal!

On April 17, 2024, the ZCT Executive Secretary made a presentation about Zanzibar and Tourism Investment during the opening of the SADCOPAC (Southern Africa Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees) Workshop at the Golden Tulip Airport Hotel in Zanzibar. The guest of honor at the event was the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi. This workshop spanned two days, and on the third day, the Committee embarked on a familiarization trip in Zanzibar.

Zanzibar is witnessing rapid growth in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. The ZCT is actively working to enhance and develop facilities to cater to this burgeoning sector. Efforts are underway to ensure that Zanzibar offers world-class infrastructure and services for conferences, meetings, and events, reinforc ing its position as a premier destination for MICE tourism in the region.

Introducing the Visit Zanzibar Platform

ZCT and ZIC recently organized a stakeholder meeting to gather insights about the "Visit Zanzibar Platform." This platform aims to collect statistical information from tourists, enhancing data accuracy for better tourism management.

The platform will also integrate the mandatory "Inbound Travel Insurance." This integration aims to provide comprehensive travel insurance coverage for visitors to

ZCT EXPLORES OPPORTUNITIES IN THE ASIAN MARKET: ZCT and ZIPA Shine at Seoul International Trade Fair 2024

The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) and Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) participated in the Seoul International Trade Fair (SITF) 2024 in Seoul, Korea, organized by KOTFA from the 9th to 12th of May 2024. The delegation from Zanzibar was led by the Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Hon. Mudrik R. Soraga, the Executive Secretary of ZCT, Mrs. Hafsa H. Mbamba, and the Executive Director from ZIPA, Saleh S. Mohamed.

ZCT explored opportunities to expand into the Asian market, recognizing it as a potential avenue to diversify the Zanzibar tourism market. With a population where 80% express a keen interest in traveling abroad, the Asian market presents promising prospects for Zanzibar's tourism sector.

Minister Soraga Highlights Zanzibar's Commitment to Sustainable Tourism at WTIC2024

On the 10th of May 2024, the Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Hon. Mudrik R. Soraga, delivered a keynote speech during the World Tourism International Conference (WTIC2024 Tourism Leader Summit) at the SIFT-2024 on Gastronomy Tourism organized by UNWTO.

The event was attended by various tourism ministers and tourism board delegates, including representatives from Malaysia, Philippines, and Cambodia. The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism demonstrated its commitment to making Zanzibar a sustainable tourism destination, emphasizing the Greener Zanzibar campaign.

ZCT Won the Best PR Booth Award at 39th SITF - 2024

ZTC is thrilled to announce that it has won the Best PR Booth Award during the 39th SITF2024, held from May 9th to 12th, 2024, in Seoul, South Korea. The award was presented to Hon. Mudrik R. Soraga, the Minister of Tourism and Heritage in Zanzibar; Hon. Togolani Mavura, the Ambassador of Tanzania in South Korea; Mrs. Hafsa H. Mbamba, Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism; Mr. Saleh S. Mohamed, Executive Director of ZIPA, and the ZCT Public Relations Officer.

Zanzibar and COEX Forge Strategic Partnership

The Ministry of Tourism and Heritage and ZCT recently met with the CEO and management of COEX Convention and Exhibition Centre from South Korea for a knowledge exchange and training session on MICE Tourism, Convention Bureaus, and Customer Relationship Management.

The meeting provided ZCT with plans on how to establish its own Convention Bureau and strategically advance into MICE Tourism. As Zanzibar continues to grow in MICE Tourism and COEX offers extensive expertise in Convention Bureaus, this collaboration marked a pivotal step toward enhancing Zanzibar's position in the global MICE market.

ZCT and JTO Establish Partnership to Boost Tourism: Signing of MOU

On May 13, 2024, during an official visit to South Korea, the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) and the Jeju Tourism Organization (JTO) signed a momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement aims to bolster tourism cooperation between Zanzibar and Jeju, focusing on marketing, exchange programs, and information sharing for mutual benefit. This landmark collaboration promises to enhance the tourism landscapes of both regions, paving the way for exciting new opportunities and cultural exchanges.

"Amazing Tanzania" Film Launched

with Great Fanfare in Beijing, China

The "Amazing Tanzania" film, crafted with great expertise, has been launched with great fanfare in Beijing, China. This film introduces the United Republic of Tanzania to the tourism market in China.

The launch took place on May 15, 2023, at the Opera House and was attended by various dignitaries, including the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Angellah Kairuki (MP), the Minister of Culture and Sports, Hon. Damas Numbaro (MP), and the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Sports, Hon. Tabia Maulid Mwita (MP) -Zanzibar.

Promoting Tanzania in China: 'Amazing Tanzania' Film Launch and Tourism

Mr. Adil Fauz George, Director of Management and Coordination of Tourism Activities at ZCT, attended the launch of the 'Amazing Tanzania' short film on May 15, 2024, in Beijing, China. This event commemorated 60 years of diplomatic relations between Tanzania and China.

The launch also featured the 'BEST FRIENDS: Travelling to Africa with Stars' reality show, which will showcase Tanzania (Zanzibar and Mainland), Ethiopia, and Djibouti. The show aims to highlight Tanzania’s beaches, heritage, and culture to attract Chinese tourists.

In addition, the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism participated in the Tanzania Tourism Roadshow in Shanghai. This initiative is part of efforts to introduce Zanzibar and Tanzania to the Chinese market, emphasizing the pristine beaches of Zanzibar and the iconic Serengeti migration.

Zanzibar is excited to announce its inaugural Light Upon Light event, which will take place from the 11th to the 13th of October 2024, featuring renowned speaker Mufti Menk. This event, organized by Eman Channel, will delve into fostering peace, respect, and unity within the Ummah.

Zanzibar sees a promising opportunity in halal tourism, aiming to diversify its market.

With its rich Islamic heritage and scenic beaches, the island is poised to attract Muslim travellers seeking authentic cultural experiences.

The Reopening of the Peace Memorial and Natural History Museums

On May 29, 2024, the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, in collaboration with the Department of Museums and Antiquities Zanzibar, officially reopened the Peace Memorial Museum and the Natural History Museum, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. As one of the oldest museums in Africa, with nearly a century of history, we warmly welcome everybody to visit these museums and explore Zanzibar's rich heritage. Heritage tourism is among ZCT's priority areas in promoting Zanzibar's cultural legacy.

KARIBU KiliFair 2024 Zanzibar's Tourism Initiatives at Karibu KiliFair

Hon. Mudrik R. Soraga, Minister of Tourism and Heritage, attended the official opening of Karibu KiliFair in Arusha from June 7th to 9th, 2024. He also played a pivotal role in launching the Zanzibar Tourism and Investment Show alongside stakeholders from Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.

Zanzibar is actively diversifying its tourism market, focusing on regional tourism partnerships to enhance its appeal as a versatile destination.

Zanzibar Welcomes "The Mora" A New Era in Luxury Tourism

On June 13, 2024, Zanzibar made history with the grand opening of "The Mora" brand by TUI Group, a significant milestone set to elevate the island's status on the global tourism map. The launch, officiated by H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, marked the beginning of a new chapter aimed at attracting high-end tourists to the region. The Mora promises to redefine luxury travel in Zanzibar, offering world-class amenities and experiences that highlight the island's unique charm and beauty. This initiative is poised to transform Zanzibar into a premier destination for discerning travellers worldwide.

ZCT Public Relations Unit

Enhances Expertise at National Information Sector Conference

The Public Relations Unit for Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) attended The Development Conference for the Information Sector and the Workshop for Government Information, Public Relations, and Communications Officers organized by Idara Habari Maelezo SMZ and SMT. The conference, held from the 18th to 22nd of June 2024 at Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam, aimed to ensure the unit stays up-to-date in providing timely,

accurate, and engaging information to the public and stakeholders. ZCT management is committed to making sure all units stay current with the latest information in their working environment, benefiting from the latest communication strategies, tools for effective public engagement, and best practices for managing government information in the digital age.

12.7% Increase in International Visitors in May 2024

Zanzibar recorded 29,995 international visitors in May 2024, marking a 12.7 percent increase compared with 26,620 visitors in May 2023, and a 3.4 percent increase compared with 28,995 visitors in the preceding month, April 2024. Tourists from Europe continued to dominate the market, accounting for 57.7 percent of the total visitors in May 2024. Germany led the tourism market, accounting for 17.5 percent of all visitors, followed by France at 10.3 percent, while New Zealand recorded less than one percent, the least among all.

A total of 779,216 bed-spaces were available in May 2024. Out of these, an estimated 241,207 beds were sold during May 2024, representing a bed occupancy rate of 31.0 percent.

Zanzibar to Attend ITOP Forum on Sustainable Community-Bas ed Tourism in August

PSG Star Achraf Hakimi Explored Zanzibar

Zanzibar has become a destination for famous celebrities. Morocco international player and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) club member, Achraf Hakimi, visited Zanzibar, arriving on the 26th of June. He was welcomed by Hon. Mudrik R. Soraga, the Minister of Tourism and Heritage. During his stay, he visited various attractions and explored the beauty of Zanzibar with his  family.

In August, Zanzibar will participate in the ITOP (Inter-Islands Tourism Policy) Forum on Sustainable Community-Based Tourism as an official member for the second time, following its attendance last year. The ITOP Forum brings together islands that share cultural affinities and have similar tourism structures and policies to collectively explore the global tourism market. With the inclusion of Zanzibar, the forum now comprises 10 member countries and 3 observer countries. The forum's objectives include developing various common tourism products for islands, promoting tourism to boost island economies, conducting studies and research

for improved management, and creating concrete action plans to fully utilize tourism resources. Additionally, the forum aims to enhance the general living standards of member islands through economic development and globalization, contribute to inter-island exchanges through continuous tourism development, and establish cooperative strategies to address issues related to tourism and the environment, such as temperature increases and climate change.

First World2fly Flight Brings 400 Tourists to Zanzibar

On June 29, 2024, World2fly made its inaugural landing in Zanzibar, bringing over 400 tourists from Madrid, Spain. Organized by Safina Tours and Travel, this flight marks the beginning of a new weekly route between Madrid and Zanzibar, operating every Saturday. This new route is expected to boost the number of visitors from Southern Europe, particularly Spain and Portugal, by providing reliable travel options to Zanzibar.
