Donations help Hanukkah
The Hershorin Schiff Community Day School had a challenge in finding ways to safely enjoy Hanukkah this year. Fortunately, the school has had help: Several local groups donated Hanukkah items and toys for Day School families. Chabad of Sarasota donated menorahs for families a couple days before Hanukkah began while the Sisterhood at Temple Beth Sholom supplied dreidels. “Hannukits” — full of supplies for parents to teach lessons about the significance of Hanukkah – were provided by the Jewish Federation of Sarasota County. The eight days of Hanukkah end Friday.

DIY boat parade sets sail
No holiday-season boat parade? No problem. Sarasota resident Zacko Gerezny and friends last weekend put on their own Killin’ It Boat Parade from City Island to the downtown waterfront. “I had asked around if anyone was putting on a parade this year, and everyone said they canceled,” Gerezny said. “I decided to do a parade myself.” Gerezny and parade volunteers collected toys at the end of the parade to donate to local groups.
