Impact of DGL: DGL changed me from being an ordinary leader to a global leader. Honestly if DGL didn’t harness my leadership potential and channel it into something more meaningful like servanthood leadership, I would just be there without which that one person who has been impacted positively by my leadership.
Suggestions: Basically mine is challenging the employed DGL alumini graduates to come up with big and long-term money generating projects like animal and crop farming. So that in those projects we may employ some of the DGL alumini graduates who are still unemployed to manage them. Secondly, assign and match the employed DGL alumni with ongoing DGL students whose field of study is related to the one of the correspondent DGL alumni who is already working. That way they will be able to increase higher chances of employment by creating job referrals and giving priorities of these golden opportunities to one of our very own once such posts are out. Lastly: a) Conduct a specific annual national fundraising day for all DGL alumni students clustered in the regions they come from. For example coastal region DGL alumni students to have their own fundraising, Central, western etc. within the same given day. Then we analyse the donations as per the regions by developing graphs, curves, pie charts etc. so as to encourage the regions to donate more and more yearly. b) Open a DGL alumni portal where employed DGL alumni can donate ksh. 300 and above monthly where these funds will create an extra slot for a deserving DGL student to join the program. Disclaimer: It’s not a must the alumni to donate from their salaries, they can engage good friends to help them raise funds from their end. My take is that the logistics department in Kenya to engage us and see this done.

Impact of DGL: I wouldn’t have gotten a degree without the DGL program considering the fact that I came from a disadvantaged family. My family wouldn’t have raised enough money to take me through the University. Am a graduate today because of the DGL program. Through this program I have directly acquired leadership competences like relationship building, persuasive skills, communication skills, mobilisation skills among others and above all my relationship with Christ improved. These I acquired from the various engagement with the Young life staff here in Uganda in meetings, camps mentorship programs and training workshops that I participated in during my days as a DGL student. These skills will stay with me and will take me to greater heights.
Suggestions: I would have allowed the students have direct access to their sponsors. I disturbs my heart that some one raises alot of money üí∞ and pays for my education, I complete successfully and still I don’t have a way to directly say thank you to that person. Secondly, I would have created an avenue for continuous support to the DGL students, including influencing the top leadership in every country to prioritize recruiting the DGL graduates as younglife staffs in their countries

Impact of DGL: I never stop praying and thanking the Lord for this unparalleled favour, this opportunity that many have not had, to leave the world of ignorance and belong to that of sensible and useful people to society. This, thanks to Young Life through the DGL program. It is Yes that I do not yet have a stable social position (financially by that), but I feel in me this pride of being nobly considered by society because I am a university executive. Otherwise, I would be among the neglected people if I hadn’t come across the DGL program. This even earns me a consideration today in my family!
Suggestions: From my personal experience, I can propose to Young Life to create another department (DGL Junoir) which could support or take charge of young volunteers at secondary level unable to go to school because of financial means. Personally, if maybe I didn’t have the state diploma, I shouldn’t be eligible for the program. However, there are several young people engaged in the Ministry who, unfortunately, do not study precisely for lack of support.

Impact of DGL: The DGL program has helped me professionally. First, being involved in Young Life gave me the vital skills and experience necessary for the role that I now serve in for my local church. I am able to connect with different young people and share the Gospel with them because of Young Life. My approach to youth ministry has been strongly inspired by my time in Young Life. The way I lead youth camps, small group discussions, and deliver short sermons have elements that I borrowed from my Young Life training. Also, I have been able to start a youth leaders team because of the leadership skills that Young Life helped me to acquire as a team leader. In order to work effectively, we must be willing to work in a team and teams require good leadership. I follow up my leaders and nurture them in the same way I would approach a YL team. Additionally, I lean toward the delegation style of leadership more because YL clubs were always a joint effort. Second, having a degree has made me employable by my local church. The church has required that every pastor should have at least a first degree. Had I not got a degree, I would have only served the church as a part time volunteer. However, I am able to fully commit to the vision of the church. This role has provided a great platform for me to exercise the gifts that God gave me to expand His Kingdom. Also, having this role has brought stability in life which meant that I could commit to marriage. I have now been married for two and a half years. We have a baby boy of 14 months with one more on the way.

Impact of DGL: I thank God for the Dgl program which came into my life at a time when I had no hopes of furthering my education due to the harsh economic hardships which prevail in my country. If it had not been for the Dgl and Gods grace program I would have been a part of the extreme statistics of the uneducated and unemployed youths in our country, which the majority have resorted to crime and drug abuse to escape the harsh realities of our community. I am grateful to God and the Dgl program for grooming me into the God fearing young man I have become.
Suggestions: The only improvement I feel would be necessary , would be a post Dgl mentorship program on career guidance and entrepreneurship . This is because in harsh economies like my country , it is a struggle to find jobs and if the students do not get guidance on how to look and possible prospects of either jobs or other avenues of making a living through entrepreneurship they can feel neglected or abandoned to fend for themselves after the program.

Impact of DGL: I see the impact that DGL has had on my personal and professional life daily. Personally; some of the most instrumental relationships I still have were birthed during mY DGL student tenure. The Younglife community which was forged during those years still remains to this day which I am grateful for. It. Being a part of the DGL program also honed my organisational skills which turned out to be critical even in my professional life. Competencies like meeting deadlines, budgeting, planning and scheduling SMART goals, time management, emotional intelligence, and networking, are all things I learned when I was in the program. The DGL program proves to be a good preparatory field for students so that they may be better prepared for the pressures that come with the outside world.
Suggestions: I would say that greater correspondence among donors and other DGL students from around the world would be a good addition to the program. While this has to be done within a well-regulated framework, I believe it would be beneficial for students and donors to share experiences and bounce off ideas from each other on how to be most effective in the program. Students could share challenges and how they overcame those challenges. It would also forge a sense of sub-regional/continental/international community and a cohort of DGL students with the same experiences and aspirations. Ideally, I would suggest that DGL cell groups are formed which meet every month or so to read scripture, pray and share stories of what is happening in their area. All within the confines of relevant oversight.

Impact of DGL: The most profound impact it had was it helped me remain grounded and provided an avenue for me to regularly meet mentors and peers. College life is not easy and being a member of the ministry that time allowed me to shift focus away from studies, which was refreshing for a student. It also helped ease the financial burden off my parents.
Suggestions: I’d probably suggest a better way to monitor the schedules, activities, and journals of the participants. We can also add more touch points and check-ins between staff and volunteers and the participants, so we have clear delineation between professional and personal mentorship meetings.

Impact of DGL: If you allow me, I would rather say that the program transformed my whole life, first I became someone who communicates with God every day through prayer, I also learned to be forgiving, thanks to your prayers, everything I do I invite God, before I didn’t do that. There is also a great man who contributed to what I have become today, without his generous gifts, I would have had to become wanderers and vagabonds. I have never had the opportunity to thank him face to face, but I hope that one day I will, and it is this person who gives me strength, motivation to work with young people in my neighborhood, to pray with them, to study the Bible and to preach to them the good news of Jesus Christ. This person’s name is Mr Joe, I have nothing to offer him for his gratitude to me but I work hard in the club I run with my leaders. Finally.... The program has made a great investment in me, because I will never stop seeking other sheep for God and making the gospel my workhorse according to the Book of Matthew Chapters 28 vs. 19.
Suggestions: I will bring new blood, new ideas, I will allow other young people who before were nobody like me to be able to realize their wildest dreams by selecting more young people, by setting aside one or two special days to pray for donors. Prayer requests: Right now bandits are occupying the space we use to meet with young people, the area where my club is located is impenetrable. I cannot reunite with them in person, almost all the people have abandoned their homes and fled to avoid being kidnapped or raped. In Haiti, the socio-political situation of the country is degrading and it has an impact on my life, I can’t even finish 3 small rooms that I have already started since 2018, and today it’s been 5 years since the work is stopped for lack of means and the place where I live with my family sometimes gives me discouragement and some regrets it’s sad but I continue to put my faith in Jesus Christ because only he can open doors for me. Impact of DGL: The DGL program helped me a lot, because I could combine my study at the university and ministry in YL, so I didn’t need to look for a job in addition. I did not have a choice of ministry God or work. After completing the program,when I started working as a lawyer in a government institution, it was extremely difficult for me to combine work and ministry in YL. Therefore, at that time I had to leave my ministry in YL for a long time.
Suggestions: I would talk about financial literacy with students of DGL program. Cause I understand now, that when I was young, I didn’t know how to use right money that program DGL gave to me.

Anything we can celebrate with you? In 2022 I started service in Young moms minister.

Additional comments: To tell the truth it’s hard to live in period of war in our country. But the support and help that comes from all over the world gives hope that God is with us in these dark times. God supports us through every person who cares about this war and it is very valuable. I am glad that God gave me the opportunity to be a part of this program, where people support me in my endeavors, worry about me, help me develop in life, and give me the opportunity to devote more time to study and service. The program inspired me to develop myself, set goals for myself and go for them. It motivates, when I read 5 books, I understand that I can read more, and I understand that I can do more than I think. Thanks to the goals I set in the program, I became better, my life was bright, I was able to share my victories with friends, to inspire someone. God developed me, gave me self-confidence, taught me to be independent, proactive and responsible. He developed in me those qualities that I studied for a very long time. And I really like it. I am not afraid to start doing something myself, planning something, organizing something. God develops my potential, develops my talents, which were somewhere inside me, and I did not know that I could do this. The program was a great support for me. Thanks to people who worry and pray for me, I have the strength to move on. There is a desire to change, to develop oneself, the church, service. I want to organize class meetings for girls, to develop in mentoring and guardianship. I want to inspire other people to help develop the church, to be a big part of a huge family. The main thing is to act, and I know that God is always with me and will always help me. Without the DGL program, my change process must have been much slower. Impact of DGL: The DGL program has radically changed my life. Taught to manage finances. Choose the right values in life. Help the poor. Live to serve these Others, and the program strengthened you. Then I looked for a job with similar criteria. If I had not been a student of DGL, I would not have appreciated all this and most likely would not have learned how it is. The program gave me the right direction of development in life and set this vector. Therefore, I am very grateful to this program because it influenced me as a person.
Suggestions: I would like to see training for future students. By their place of residence in that country or with departure to another country. It would be cool if the DGL program prepared these people for something big. It would be possible to make 4 courses. 1 course per year. 1 week for training and then on the task site. I think it would be very cool for the future leaders of the program for their lives and society as a whole.
