In a world saturated with information and social media, we often find ourselves overwhelmed by stress and anxiety. Throughout my life and all the situations I have faced, I have learned that, even in the most difficult moments, there is always an opportunity to grow and to start anew. My dream was to pursue a master's degree in clinical social work, and today I am achieving that goal. Three key recommendations to succeed in European low-context environments: 1. Communicate directly and precisely.

Present facts, timelines, and guarantees upfront. Emotional intelligence is an asset, but clarity is the currency.

2. Formalize expectations. Use written agreements, meeting agendas, and follow-up summaries. Informality may be perceived as disorganization or lack of commitment.

3. Honor time and systems. Punctuality and consistent follow-through signal professionalism and elevate credibility.

You can change or improve what you're doing. You can start that project, those studies, that diet—whatever you've decided you should do right now. We're used to waiting for the new year to promise changes or improvements that we almost never keep, but the sun rises every day, and every day is a good day to make a change. We're in autumn, when we see the harvest of what we've planted, and we can give thanks and review or change the seed for a new harvest or result. In this season of celebrations and thanksgiving for Thanksgiving or Christmas, be grateful and appreciate what you've reaped or sown this year, but analyze the necessary changes so you can plant a different seed. Only then will you have different results. And when spring arrives, when that seed begins to sprout, you will have had enough time to start seeing the fruits, the result of a new strategy, a new plan or project that you started from now on.

Tú puedes cambiar o mejorar lo que estás haciendo. Puedes empezar ese proyecto, esos estudios, esa dieta, lo que te has propuesto que deberías hacer desde ahora. Estamos acostumbrados a esperar al nuevo año para prometer hacer cambios o mejoras que casi nunca cumplimos, pero el sol sale todos los días y todos los días es un buen día para hacer un cambio. Estamos en otoño en que vemos la cosecha de lo que hemos plantado y podemos agradecer y revisar o cambiar la semilla para una nueva cosecha o resultado. En esta época de celebraciones de agradecimiento por día de gracias o por festejos de navidad agradece y aprecia lo que has recogido o sembrado este año pero analiza los cambios necesarios para lo que debes plantar con una semilla diferente. Solamente así tendrás diferentes resultados.

Y cuando llegue la primavera, en que esa semilla empieza a retoñar, habrás tenido tiempo suficiente para empezar a ver los frutos, el resultado de una nueva estrategia, de un nuevo plan o proyecto que empezaste desde ahora.

INTRODUCTION: WHEN SUCCESS OVERSHADOWS CONSCIENCE ÉTICA EMPRESARIAL: LA CLAVE DEL ÉXITO O FRACASO DE UN NEGOCIO SOSTENIBLE INTRODUCCIÓN: CUANDO EL ÉXITO ECLIPSA LA CONCIENCIA

In the age of immediacy and global competition, businesses are increasingly facing a troubling phenomenon: the rise of unethical behavior in commercial relationships. Organizational psychologists describe this as the “success at any cost syndrome”—a moral distortion that justifies questionable decisions in the name of profitability or survival (Treviño & Nelson, 2021).

Divisive relationship culture: organizations dominated by internal factions, favoritism, or rivalry between partners and departments.

The Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI, 2023) has reported a significant increase in unethical practices such as conflicts of interest, data manipulation, and repeated contract breaches. These behaviors may provide short-term advantages but ultimately erode the trust, reputation, and psychological well-being upon which long-term success depends (Kaptein, 2019).

Absence of shared values: when the ethical principles and business vision of both parties do not converge toward a common purpose.

RED FLAGS BEFORE SIGNING AN AGREEMENT Before finalizing any contract or strategic alliance, leaders and entrepreneurs must carefully identify the “red flags” that may signal potential ethical or financial risks. Key warning signs include: Contractual ambiguity: clauses written with vague or interpretive language that enable future breaches.

Pressure to decide quickly: when one party insists on closing the deal without adequate time for review or consultation.

History of noncompliance: individuals or companies with a record of broken contracts, late payments, or recurring disputes.

Attachment to transactional conflict: a tendency to resolve disagreements through legal threats or emotional manipulation instead of ethical dialogue.

Lack of consistency between words and actions: when a company’s declared values do not align with its daily behavior, especially regarding corporate responsibility or fiscal compliance.

As Linda Treviño (2021) reminds us, “Organizational ethics are not measured by the values written on the wall, but by the behaviors tolerated in everyday practice.”

WHEN WARNING SIGNS EMERGE AFTER THE CONTRACT Sometimes, unethical behavior becomes evident after the contract has been formalized. When that happens, the key is to act with calmness, integrity, and sound judgment. Effective strategies include: Document all evidence of misconduct or lack of transparency to preserve legal protection.

Review the contract for clauses related to mediation, arbitration, or early termination.

Avoid impulsive reactions, maintaining professionalism and ethical consistency.

Exiting a crisis of conscience in business is not merely a matter of strategy—it is an act of integrity. Handling it with dignity strengthens leadership credibility and transforms experience into ethical wisdom (Ciulla, 2020).

THE VALUE OF ETHICS FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND TRANSACTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Ethics safeguard not only the business but also the mental health of those who lead it. Working in environments marked by manipulation, deceit, or mistrust creates chronic stress, insomnia, and cognitive dissonance (Skarlicki et al., 2021). Conversely, organizations that cultivate ethical climates promote psychological well-being, loyalty, and a deep sense of purpose among their employees.

Ethics should therefore not be seen as a restriction but as the moral and emotional engine that drives sustainable success. Ethical businesses build long-term partnerships because they operate from trust, not fear.

CLOSING WITH PURPOSE: NON-NEGOTIABLE ETHICS Every negotiation involves three forces: reason, emotion, and conscience.

Reason seeks profit, emotion provides motivation, but only conscience guarantees lasting success. Commercial ethics are not a marketing strategy or a public-relations tool—they are the foundation upon which reputation and sustainability are built.

Seek ethical and legal counsel simultaneously to manage the situation without damaging your reputation.

Communicate assertively and respectfully, prioritizing truth, accountability, and learning from the experience.

INTRODUCCIÓN: CUANDO EL ÉXITOECLIPSA LA CONCIENCIA En la era de la inmediatez y la competencia global, muchas empresas enfrentan un fenómeno cada vez más frecuente: el incremento de conductas poco éticas en las relaciones comerciales. Este patrón ha sido descrito por los psicólogos organizacionales como el “síndrome del éxito a cualquier precio”, un trastorno moral que lleva a justificar decisiones cuestionables en nombre de la rentabilidad o la supervivencia empresarial (Treviño & Nelson, 2021).

El Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI, 2023) advierte que las conductas no éticas —como el conflicto de intereses, la manipulación de información o los incumplimientos reiterados— han crecido significativamente en entornos empresariales altamente competitivos.

Estas acciones, aunque puedan ofrecer ventajas inmediatas, erosionan la confianza, el capital reputacional y el bienestar psicológico de quienes las practican (Kaptein, 2019).

BANDERAS ROJAS ANTES DE FIRMAR UN ACUERDO Antes de cerrar un contrato o alianza estratégica, los líderes y emprendedores responsables deben observar atentamente las “banderas rojas” que pueden anticipar futuras crisis éticas o financieras. Entre las más relevantes destacan: Ambigüedad contractual: cláusulas redactadas con términos confusos o interpretables que facilitan incumplimientos futuros.

Presión para decidir rápidamente: cuando una de las partes insiste en acelerar el proceso sin permitir revisión o asesoría.

Historial de incumplimientos: empresas o personas con antecedentes de contratos rotos, pagos tardíos o litigios frecuentes.

Apego a conflictos transaccionales: tendencia a resolver desacuerdos mediante amenazas legales o manipulación emocional en lugar del diálogo ético.

Cultura de relaciones divididas: organizaciones donde predominan las alianzas internas, favoritismos o rivalidades entre socios y departamentos.

Falta de coherencia entre discurso y práctica: decir una cosa y actuar de otra, especialmente en temas de responsabilidad social o cumplimiento fiscal.

Ausencia de valores compartidos: cuando los principios éticos y la visión de negocio no convergen en un propósito común.

Como afirma Linda Treviño (2021), “la ética organizacional no se mide por los valores escritos en la pared, sino por los comportamientos tolerados en la práctica cotidiana”.

Cuando las señales aparecen después del contrato No siempre las señales de alerta se detectan a tiempo. Cuando las irregularidades éticas emergen después de formalizar el acuerdo, es vital actuar con serenidad, prudencia y rectitud.

Algunas estrategias eficaces incluyen: Registrar evidencias de incumplimiento o falta de transparencia, preservando pruebas que protejan la integridad legal.

Revisar el contrato para identificar cláusulas de mediación, arbitraje o rescisión anticipada.

Evitar respuestas impulsivas o reactivas, manteniendo la postura profesional y la coherencia ética.

Buscar asesoría especializada, tanto jurídica como ética, para resolver la situación sin deteriorar la reputación.

Comunicar de manera asertiva y respetuosa, priorizando la verdad, la responsabilidad y el aprendizaje del error.

Salir “sano y salvo” de una crisis de conciencia empresarial no es solo un asunto de estrategia, sino de integridad. Resolverla con dignidad fortalece el liderazgo y convierte la experiencia en una fuente de sabiduría ética (Ciulla, 2020).

EL VALOR DE LA ÉTICA PARA LA SALUD MENTAL Y LAS RELACIONES TRANSACCIONALES

(Skarlicki et al., 2021). Por el contrario, los entornos éticos fomentan bienestar psicológico, compromiso y sentido de propósito entre los colaboradores.

La ética, entonces, no debe verse como una restricción, sino como el motor emocional y moral que impulsa la sostenibilidad empresarial y humana. Las empresas éticas construyen relaciones de largo plazo porque operan desde la confianza, no desde el miedo.

UN CIERRE CON PROPÓSITO: LA ÉTICA INNEGOCIABLE En toda negociación intervienen tres fuerzas: la razón, la emoción y la conciencia. La razón busca el beneficio, la emoción da impulso, pero solo la conciencia asegura la permanencia del éxito. La ética comercial no es un adorno ni una estrategia de imagen: es el cimiento sobre el cual se edifica la reputación y la sostenibilidad.
