PETRONAS collaborates with YAYASAN SABAH GROUP in providing education sponsorship for secondary school students

PETRONAS and its subsidiary PETRONAS Floating LNG 1 (L) Ltd (PFLNG1 Ltd) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Sponsorship Agreement respectively with Yayasan Sabah Group to collaborate on implementing education sponsorship programme for selected high performing secondary school students in Sabah to study in Peninsula Malaysia.

The agreements signed on 2 November 2022 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) aims to nurture secondary students’ potentials in science and mathematics related academic and curriculum activities, harness their interest in technical and engineering disciplines, and to be the potential feeder to the PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Programme (PESP), the signature programme which awards outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers to pursue tertiary education at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), and other leading local and overseas universities.

The MoU underlines the scopes of collaboration between PETRONAS and Yayasan Sabah Group which includes student selection and school placements for the sponsorship programme, promotion of PESP, knowledge on the oil and gas industry through programmes organised by both parties, and other areas of collaboration, supporting Sabah’s human capital development.

Whereas the Sponsorship Agreement is to formalise the implementation of education sponsorship programme that will see the placement of high performing students from Sabah at selected fully residential schools in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as on student leadership engagement and development programme.

PFLNG1 Ltd will be the corporate sponsor for the programme, leveraging the experience and expertise of Yayasan Sabah Group.

The primary function of Yayasan Sabah Group is to manage PETRONAS sponsorship funds for students sponsored by PETRONAS in terms of student interviews, placement, supervision, value-added programmes, additional classes and other related aspects as stated in the collaboration agreement.

PETRONAS and Yayasan Sabah Group remain committed in line with the role in assisting and enhancing the government’s efforts, especially in improving the quality of education in the State through financial assistance and innovative collaboration with various agencies and corporate bodies for students in need.
