Welcome new veterinarians Yavapai Humane Society (YHS) welcomed two new veterinarians in 2017 - Dr. Katherine Siens at our YHS Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic and Dr. James Styre at the YHS shelter. Dr. Siens has been practicing veterinary medicine for 3 years and brings with her years of ranch management and animal care experience. Dr. Siens has a strong interest in public health, which lead her to working for YHS. “I look forward to holding educational talks with our community to share my knowledge on topics like heard health and basic animal care including vaccination and spay/neuter,” says Dr. Siens. She currently lives in Chino Valley and has 2 goats, 5 hens, 1 rooster, 4 dogs and 1 cat. Dr. Styre has been practicing veterinary medicine for 24 years and brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. Dr. Styre has lived in the area for six years and recently shifted his focus from private practice to shelter medicine saying, “I felt like I could make a bigger difference in our community working for a nonprofit and caring for homeless pets.” Dr. Styres lives in Chino Valley and has 10 fur friends, including 5 dogs and 5 cats.

Ethan is pain free, thanks to you When little Ethan, a 5 year old Yorkie mix, was brought to Yavapai Humane by a caring and concerned Prescott Valley Animal Control Officer our hearts broke because this little sweetheart was suffering from a large mass in his ear. Our skilled medical team examined the abnormality and discovered it was completely blocking Ethan’s ear canal, causing him excruciating pain. To relieve the pain the noncancerous tumor needed to be removed, but that meant a complicated surgery. The surgery would require removing Ethan’s entire ear canal along with the tumor, which was dangerously close to Ethan’s brain. YHS veterinarian Dr. Katherine Siens collaborated with Dr. Rich Fisher and contracted a specialized surgery suite through Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center for the delicate procedure. Dr. Fisher was kind enough to donate his own time and even helped YHS fund Ethan’s expensive surgery. We are happy to report Ethan did well during the surgery and has made a full recovery. He was recently adopted and is now enjoying a pain free life in a loving home, thanks to your support of pets in need like Ethan.
