Ms. Jamie Foster will be teaching Honors Algebra 1 and Intermediate Algebra. She is a parent in the Xavier Catholic School System and will be teaching high school math for the first time this year.
We also want to welcome all of the new students and families to Xavier High School. Our community is one of support academically, socially and spiritually. As these new students find their way at their new school, they will be supported by juniors and seniors who have spent the summer preparing for their arrival and by faculty who have designed new ways to build connections and new programs to involve all students more quickly. If you are a new family, please be welcome to reach out if there are any ways we can support you or your student during this transition. If you are an experienced Xavier family, please look for opportunities to introduce yourself and include new parents, and encourage your student to do the same with new classmates. We expect this to be an outstanding year of community building, but that requires dedication from each and every one of us. Let’s be part of growing something special!
Mrs. Lori Dolezal joins the English Department. She has previously taught English at Menasha High School and will be teaching Senior English this year.
Fr. Patrick Costello becomes the second chaplain in modern Xavier history. He succeeds Fr, Adam Bradley, who had been chaplain since the re introduction of the program in 2017. Fr. Patrick will be hosting special sessions in Freshman Theology classes. He celebrated his first Masses as chaplain at Freshman Family Welcome Night and our opening Mass & Eucharistic Procession last week
We are blessed to find such qualified and dedicated professionals in a time when so many other schools are opening without a full staff. It allows us to implement the entire range of programming designed to maximize the opportunities for our young people.
Mr. Rick Duncan is already known by many of the Xavier High School students, as he has been active in the System for several years, as a Care Program staff member and substitute teacher at Xavier Elementary and Xavier Middle Schools. Mr. Duncan returns to the theology classroom after a brief hiatus, teaching Freshman Theology.
Xavier High School is a proud member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System, and has been accredited by AdvanceED (formerly the North Central Association) since 1970. Dear Xavier Family, Please join me in welcoming our newest members of the Xavier faculty:
Mike

Each spring the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) holds a contest where Wisconsin high school students draw designs for the state park sticker for the following year. Visitors are required to have a state park sticker or a day pass to enter any of the 60 state parks in Wisconsin. The students in Xavier's graphic design class, taught by Melanie Balthazor, developed their own individual original designs using prisma markers. The contest limited the designs to four colors and required them to follow an established font and text.

Kenny Power was named as one of the seven artists to receive an Honorable Mention in the 2023 contest. Kenny worked diligently to construct a design which included some of nature's key elements which represent the state of Wisconsin. He drew a field book open to a page with drawings of the state fish, the muskellunge; the state insect, the western honey bee; the state flower, the wood violet: and the state animal, the badger. Congratulations to Kenny for the recognition of his artistic talent.

How do juniors and seniors register for the October 18 ACT?
● Juniors may choose to take the optional PSAT at Xavier. The PSAT is a good predictor for how students might do on the SAT college entrance exam. The PSAT is also the National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
Test Day 2022: Tuesday, Oct 18, 2022 , 8:00am - 11:30am
● Juniors will have the opportunity to take the ACT (no writing) at Xavier High School.
This Fall PSAT NMSQT (Preliminary SAT National Merit Qualifying Test): Saturday, Oct 15, 2022 Who takes the PSAT-NMSQT?
● By September 16, juniors and seniors need to pay the $52 test fee. Payment may be made by cash, check (made out to ‘XCS’), or by emailing Karen Bendel at kbendel@xaviercatholicschools.org to request payment via Smart Tuition. Cash and checks should be delivered to Lisa Hansen at Xavier High School. Test fee waivers are available to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. See your counselor for a waiver.
What happens on Test Day?
Other Tests Offered at Xavier
● Each year about 10 Xavier sophomores choose to take the PSAT to practice the exam before junior year. These sophomores are typically very strong test takers who have potential to be National Merit Scholarship Finalists (which requires a score in the top 1% of test takers).
Xavier is offering this optional ACT so that our juniors have one ACT that is guaranteed to occur on site. Juniors may certainly wait until later in the year to take the ACT. Scores from this October 18 test can be used for college applications. A test prep class will be offered especially for this test date.
News & Notes Page 5
Here is a summary of the standardized tests being administered this fall at Xavier High School. Visit the School Counseling website for descriptions of the tests listed below.
If your student is looking for a tutor, the Xavier Honor Society offers free tutoring services. Please ask the instructor or email Kelli McGreevey, Honor Society Moderator, to request a kmcgreevey@xaviercatholicschools.orgtutor:
● Registration for the PSAT takes place in early September, and emails will be sent to students and parents explaining how to register and pay the $18 test fee
● Seniors may also take the October 18 ACT at Xavier, if they wish. If they do not take the ACT, they should work on other college related activities, such as their applications and essays, that morning and can stay home to do so.
Xavier Honor Society Tutoring
● Freshmen and sophomores will take the preACT a practice ACT designed for 9th and 10th graders. This test will be given at no cost to all freshmen and sophomores. No prep is needed. Details will be provided in the coming weeks.

The TXW (The Xavier Way) Prayer is a special prayer written for our school that we recite each week. MayLord, all that I do this day be rooted in love and mercy, that I might love You and love others as perfectly as You love me. I ask for the courage to act responsibly and honestly in all that I say and do and set an example for others to follow. Give me eyes to see those in need around me and the heart to act in a way that is pleasing to You. I want to be the best version of me that I can and bring honor and glory to You. Amen. All prayers at Xavier end with the leader saying “St. Francis Xavier…” and we respond “PRAY FOR US.”
