Forord Vilmantas Marcinkevičius (f. 1969) afsluttede i 1995 sin uddannelse på Kunstakademiet i Vilnius. Han udstillede første gang i Galleri NB i 1998, og efterfølgende har Vilmantas og Galleri NB arbejdet tæt sammen. Vilmantas kan kort beskrives som en stor og markant kunstnerisk personlighed med et unikt billedsprog og maleteknik. Hans store udstillinger rundt i verden og naturligvis i Litauen og Danmark har skabt stor opmærksomhed. Derfor har han over de sidste 20 år udviklet og befæstet sin position som en af Litauens mest kendte og anerkendte samtidskunstnere. Hans empatiske evner og maleteknikker har desuden gjort ham attraktiv som portrætmaler. Blandt de mest kendte portrætter var portrætterne af HKH Prins Henrik, som han udførte i foråret 2014. Det meste af hans kunst befinder sig i private samlinger, men gennem årene har han også udført flere markante og omfattende udsmykninger for offentlige og private virksomheder. Ikke mindst total udsmykningen af Hedeager Kirke i Herning er bemærkelsesværdig, idet den beskriver hændelserne Skærtorsdag gennem malerier, glasmosaikker i vinduerne og glasmalerier indbygget i prædikestolen med LED baggrundsbeslysning.

Vilmantas arbejder primært med maleri på lærred. Men han har i de seneste år tilføjet billedkunstneriske malerier på store keramiske krukker, keramiske fade og glasarbejder. Grundet en lang periode med begrænsninger i udstillingsmulighederne, har vi valgt, at udstillingen Burning Mind denne gang skal fylde hele galleriet. Den omfattende udstilling præsenterer således Vilmantas nyeste malerier, keramiske krukker, keramiske fade og bemalede glasfade. Denne udstilling er samtidig en manifestering af vore tætte bånd, der består af lige dele respektfuld anerkendelse, professionelt samarbejde og nære venskab.

Foreword
Vilmantas Marcinkevičius (born in 1969) completed his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius in 1995. He exhibited for the first time in Gallery NB in 1998 and subsequently Vilmantas and Gallery NB have worked closely together. Vilmantas can be described briefly as a large and distinctive artistic personality with a unique imagery and painting technique. His major exhibitions around the world and of course in Lithuania and Denmark have created a great deal of attention. Therefore, over the past 20 years, he has developed and consolidated his position as one of Lithuania‘s most famous and recognized contemporary artists. His empathic abilities and painting techniques have also made him attractive as a portrait painter. Among the most famous portraits were the portraits of HRH Prince Henrik of Denmark, which he made in the spring of 2014. Most of his art is in private collections, but over the years he has also made several striking and extensive decorations for public and private companies. Not least the total decoration of Hedeager Church in Herning, Denmark, is remarkable, as it describes the events of Maundy Thursday through paintings, glass mosaics in the windows and glass paintings built into the pulpit with LED backlighting.

Vilmantas works primarily with painting on canvas. But in recent years he has added pictorial paintings on large ceramic jars, ceramic dishes and glasswork. Due to a long period of limitations in the exhibition possibilities, we have chosen that the exhibition Burning Mind this time will fill the entire gallery. The extensive exhibition thus presents Vilmanta‘s latest paintings, ceramic pots, ceramic dishes and painted glass dishes. This exhibition is at the same time a manifestation of our close ties, which consist of equal parts respectful recognition, professional cooperation and close friendship.

Brændende sind "Brændende sind" betyder et sind, der eksploderer med ideer. Hjernen er vores database, mediet, hvor tanker, ideer, følelser og minder er gemt. Når vi er isoleret fra kontakt med andre mennesker, er der færre nye og dynamiske oplevelser. I sådanne tilfælde er man mere opmærksom på sig selv - man begynder at motivere og genopbygge sig selv og begynder at bruge sin database - sit sind mere intensivt end normalt. Kunstnere har mange øgenavne, fx "skøre kunstnere" Hvori består den skørhed? Hvad er dens natur? Kunstnerens galskab er tilsyneladende en unik slags galskab. Symptomerne? Dyb eksistentiel vision om alle fænomener, uafladelig spørgsmålsstillen og mod til at være sig selv. Og det vigtigste: at tale med kunstneriske virkemidler og at forpligte sig til at legemliggøre alle de nævnte symptomer i objektet, i billedet eller i hverdagen, at gøre dem uadskillelige fra skabelsen af dem. I Vilmantas Marcinkevičius’ værker smelter plottene og fantasierne om den ændrede virkelighed ind i hinanden i udtryksfulde glimt. Marcinkevičius’ skarpe, men tavse værk fremhæver en mands mærkelighed, hans følelser og handlinger og synliggør hele verdens vanvid. Intuitivt, uden at følge litteraturens regelsæt, forvandler Marcinkevičius livssituationer til kompositioner, der fremkalder kollektiv underbevidsthed. Selvbiografien afsløres først, når forfatteren selv fortæller historierne bag malerierne, som hidtil har været slørede. 10
Marcinkevičius ser en parallel mellem kreativitet og videnskab - intet kommer ud af ingenting; kun ved første øjekast dukker en kreativ idé op som om den kom ingen steder fra. Det er mere en sommerfugleeffekt. Årsagen og den primære impuls er der altid der; det eneste, der skal til, er at spore årsagskæden, og så bliver den logiske sekvens synlig. I Marcinkevičius’ arbejde kan kombinationen af gul og blå betragtes som en dobbelthed af overjordiske og jordiske verdener. Sartres filosofi forklarer behovet for at bryde væk fra den materielle verden. Intet er den gule hverdag i Marcinkevičius, som skal ledsages af et højere fænomen - det blå Væren. I sommerfugleeffektens trope kunne Marcinkevičius’ malerier hænge mellem vingernes slag og tornadoen - mellem årsagen og den endelige konsekvens. Marcinkevičius sublimerer ofte egne følelser i sit arbejde. Kunst fungerer som terapi for at forhindre tornadoer i at ske i virkeligheden. Udvanding af det gule daglige liv med en god dosis blå modvægt fungerer således som forebyggelse af daglig inerti.

Burning mind "Burning mind" means a mind exploding with ideas. The brain is our database, the medium where thoughts, ideas, feelings and memories are stored. When we are isolated from contact with other people, new and living experiences are diminished. In such cases, one is more aware of oneself – you start to motivate and replenish yourself and begin to use your database – your mind – more intensively than usual. Artists are often called freaks, even crazy. What is that madness? What is its nature? The madness of the artist is apparently a unique kind of madness. The symptoms? Deep existential vision of all phenomena, incessant questioning and courage to be oneself. And the main thing: speaking through artistic means, and the obligation to embody all the mentioned symptoms in the object, in the picture or in everyday life, inseparable from creation. In Vilmantas Marcinkevičius’ works, the plots and fantasies of the altered reality merge into each other in expressive flashes. The sharp but silent work of Marcinkevičius highlights the strangeness of a man, his feelings and his actions, making visible the madness of the whole world. Intuitively, without following the rule of literature, Marcinkevičius turns life situations into compositions that evoke collective subconscious. Autobiography is revealed only when the author himself tells the stories behind the paintings, hidden like lining.

Marcinkevičius sees a parallel between creativity and science – nothing emerges from nothing; only at first glance, a creative idea emerges as if from nowhere. It is more of a butterfly effect. The reason and primary impulse are always there; the only thing needed is to trace the causal link chain and the logical sequence becomes visible. In Marcinkevičius’ work, the combination of yellow and blue could be treated as a duality of extraterrestrial and earthly worlds. Sartre’s philosophy explains the need to break away from the material world. The Nothing is that yellow everyday life of Marcinkevičius, which must be accompanied by a higher phenomenon – the blue Being. In the trope of the butterfly effect, Marcinkevičius’ paintings would hang between the flutter of the wings and the tornado – between the cause and the final effect. Marcinkevičius often sublimes his own emotions in his work. Art acts as a therapy to prevent tornadoes from happening in reality. Thus, diluting yellow daily life with a good dose of blue antidote acts as a prevention against everyday inertia.
