I am pleased to welcome back Michael Parham as Co-Clubhouse Manager. Michael was previously employed with Wynlakes for about a year and a half. Michael and his family reside in Montgomery. We are excited to have Michael rejoin our outstanding management team, focusing on training our food and beverage staff. We believe that proper training is essential for you, our members, to have excellent experiences while at the Club. Our team is energized by Michael’s return and we look forward to seeing Michael, Seed, Myriam, Rico, Bernadette, and their entire teams grow and enhance their service for YOU!

I know it’s probably difficult to think about this now, but have you booked your Holiday Party yet? If not, now is the time to do it. Dates are filling up quickly. Call Noel Adamson or Beth Jones at #334-279-0297 to lock in your date!

SERVICE CHARGE: Why do we charge a ‘Service Charge’ on all food and beverage at the Club and where does it go? Wynlakes charges a 20% service charge on all food and beverage purchases at the Club and 22% on all food and beverage at events/banquets. These service charges indirectly go

to the staff. We pay our staff a much higher hourly/salary rate than a normal restaurant would pay. We also use these funds to pay for their benefits; health insurance, vacation/pt/holiday pay, 401k employer contributions and a meal each day they come to work. The average gratuity in Alabama is 20%, however, through compensation and benefits, Wynlakes provides much more for its experienced staff. Our industry, the hospitality industry, was hit extremely hard during Covid and it has not recovered. It has been extremely difficult to recruit and retain staff. Last December, we added a ‘tip’ line to all dining tickets. This was added to help the staff receive a ‘little more’. Please do not feel an obligation on your part to leave a tip. We simply tell our members, if you feel like our staff has gone ‘over and above’ with providing excellent service you may feel the need to leave a ‘tip’. The ‘tip’ goes directly to that employee.

GOLF: I want to thank all of you who have come to me with your positive comments regarding the course. For at least the past 4 months, I have heard multiple compliments on the beauty of every aspect of our golf course. With our outing structure changes, it has allowed Brad (Wynlakes Golf Course Superintendent) and his staff more time to perform the necessary

Steve

proper maintenance that the course deserves. It has been unbelievable to see such quick improvements. Aerification went as planned during July and the greens are getting back to normal faster than expected due to the health of the greens. We appreciate your patience during this closure of the course. It is a necessary process for the overall health of the greens.

Founders Cup is here! August 2425. This has become quite a special weekend of golf, with it being ONLY Wynlakes Members/Teams. If you are not already a part of a golf team, contact our golf staff and they will get you set up with one.

MEMBER/GUEST: Congratulations to our Member/Guest winners Wesley Woolard & Austin Ingram and the many teams in tennis. It was a fun-filled weekend with a LOT of golf, a LOT of tennis matches and simply a wonderful time.

Thank you to all who participated.

We hope it was just as special to you as it was to the Wynlakes team.

2. Portion Control

• Share a Dish: Split an entrée with a friend.

• Order Half Portions: If available, or save half for later.

• Choose Soups or Salads: Start with a broth-based soup or a salad with dressing on the side.

4. Healthier Choices

• Grilled, Not Fried: Opt for grilled, baked, or steamed dishes.

• Load Up on Veggies: Ask for extra vegetables instead of fries or other high-calorie sides.

5. Dressing and Sauces

• On the Side: Request dressings and sauces on the side to control the amount you use.

• Light or Vinaigrette: Choose lighter dressings like vinaigrette over creamy ones.

6. Beverages

• Water First: Drink water before and during your meal.

• Limit Alcohol: Stick to one drink or choose light options like wine or light beer.

BACK PAIN BODYWORK & MASSAGE THERAPY

Next to the common cold, back pain is the most frequent complaint heard by doctors.

Massage kneads away tension in the muscles, as well as relieving discomfort in surrounding areas that are “guarding” in response to the pain. It increases circulation, allowing healing nutrients and oxygen into the tissue.

Dr. Dani,

What is a good tip on returning serve in Pickleball?

Sincerely, Randy Return

Dear Randy,

Return of serve is one of the two most important shots in Pickleball next to serving. Taking control of the net is an important strategy in Pickleball. The more advanced a player becomes, the more the net is their advantage. A good tip on a return of serve is to hit the ball semi- high and deep into the court which will provide time to get to the kitchen line with your partner to set up a tough “third shot” for your opponent to make. The deeper your return, the greater advantage you have getting to the net before your opponent.

Sincerely,

CALLAWAY - APEX FITTING

Friday, August 9th will be the day to get fit for the brand new Callaway APEX irons. These irons will be the hottest club of the later summer and fall so you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to get them early. Wynlakes Head Golf Professional Kyle Sullivan has been a long time Callaway Staff Professional and can attest to the success of the APEX brand. Space is extremely limited and reserved for those interested in fitting sessions so contact the Golf Shop today!!

TIP OF THE MONTH

Watching the golf highlights on social media or tv broadcasts can have us all amazed at the short game displays we see. But just like a lot of things we see, those highlights can turn into bloopers very quickly. Course management is very important for golfers to keep in mind. When the last shot didn’t put us in a good position, sometimes we must admit partial defeat and find a path towards finishing the hole without creating a blooper. Consider taking your medicine by chipping out sideways or playing away from the pin to ensure you aren’t stuck in a bunker or forced to re-drop a ball in play.

FALL MEMBER-MEMBER

Make sure you have November 2-3 marked down on your calendar!! You, the members, have talked and inquired about this event and we have listened. We are excited about this new event for 2024. Check back next month for registration details. For those worried about football – Alabama is off that weekend and Auburn is away playing Vanderbilt so it should be a great weekend here at Wynlakes for the Member-Member!!

2024 MEMBER GUEST GOLF WINNERS

Up – Steve Adams & Jack Perkins, Winners Wesley Woolard & Austin Ingram)

SUPERVIEWS by Brad Barron

Aerification has come and gone and we have had some great results in the healing process the weeks after. I can tell you this year’s before, during and after aerification process has been the best I have had here at Wynlakes. You might ask why or what was the difference in this year vs the previous years. That will be what I will discuss in this months superviews.

So, this year we went in with several changes. We changed some of our agronomic practices and scheduling issues. The agronomic changes we made had to do with topdressing and scheduled fertility and soil management practices. We started lightly topdressing earlier in the year in mid-February. We continued the topdressing weekly once we started.

This has created a much smoother and firmer canopy of turf on the greens. The frequent topdressing also helps with infiltration of water by diluting the organic material in the soil with sand. More frequent topdressing also helps control and discourage algae growth on the greens. The scheduling changes mainly result from the amount of more open Mondays with no outings. Mondays are closed for play to allow me and my crew to complete projects that would otherwise be difficult to accomplish with golfers on the course. This has allowed me to schedule my fertility and soil application more effectively. Timing is a big part in what we do agronomically. Whether it has to do with the time of year, temperature or an event like aerifications. The time

you have to get these products in place sometimes has a small window. Mother nature is something we cannot control so having the open Mondays has helped tremendously with this. Even with a rain out on a Monday we can still schedule it for the following week. I can say that these changes have made a huge difference this year. The greens were so much healthier going into aerification. This also resulted in a much quicker recovery time after aerification. We have already started verticutting and topdressing again ahead of schedule. The play of the greens was great leading up to aerification and with the quick healing we will be right back to that shape soon. Thanks to the members and management during these changes. We all have benefited.
