MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS August 2014 Update

Dear Friends and Family, What does 56 years of ministry produce? For Alex and Lois Vincent, translators of the Tairora Scriptures it produced a harvest of believers. When the Vincents first arrived in 1958 to translate the Bible into the Tairora language, the people had minimal contact with the outside world and there were no believers or literates. When our Wycliffe GET Global team arrived in June 2014 in two Papua New Guinea (PNG) Tairora villages (Barabuna and Ontabura) to do audio recording of the completed translated Tairora Scriptures and Tairora hymns, we found dozens of Christian churches and hundreds of believers who were using the translated Tairora Bible.

Ready for the trip to Papua New Guinea

In June we lead the GET Global team to PNG to help seven young people learn more about Bible translation work. We also went to do audio recording so that the Tairora people could also hear the Tairora Scriptures and worship songs (http://tiny.cc/getglobal2014) written by the people. These will soon be put on Audio Bibles and distributed to the people. Our GET Global team first spent a few days in Dallas, TX for team orientation. Then we traveled to Ukarumpa, PNG (where we had previously worked for 15 years) and showed the team the various aspects of Bible translation work and the activities that support that effort including the store that Chuck managed and the high school that our children attended and where Barb worked as a librarian. We then learned how to do audio recordings before spending a week living in two separate Tairora villages doing the audio recordings. What a joy to be part of giving the people some of their first Tairora audio Scriptures and hymns.

Praise and Prayer PRAISES  

For safety and health on our trip. While some of our team had some stomach problems, it was short lived! For those who gave money to help us with extra trip expenses. Thank you!

PRAYER 

We are back at Ukarumpa!

For the seven young people who came on the trip with us. Pray that God will direct some of them to consider Bible translation work. For the Tairora people as they are soon to receive the Scriptures in audio form. Pray they will continue to use the translated Scriptures and that the audio Bible and hymns will encourage and strength their faith.

SPECIAL PRAYER NEED 

Chuck & Barb with current Ukarumpa Store staff

We recently had a major church supporter write us to let us know they will be discontinuing their support of our work due to a change of their church’s mission focus. Pray that the Lord will help us find ways to cover that yearly $ 2,700 drop in support. FOR SUPPORTING US FINANCIALLY BY MAIL

We are thankful that while we were at Ukarumpa we are able to visit many Wycliffe co-workers we previously knew. Some were people Chuck helped recruit and some are friends we serve with many years ago.
