MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS October 2022 Hurricane/Earthquake Update
Dear Friends and Family, We normally report on our work with Wycliffe Bible Translators, but we thought it appropriate to give you an update on the impact that Hurricane Ian had on our work, house and lives. We are happy to report the Lord was gracious and while we had lots of wind and rain, all is well and we sustained no damage to our home or had no harm to us or our family living in the area.

Wycliffe gave us time to prepare for the hurricane and so we got sandbags and with the help of our daughter Jenny, boarded up our back door and sandbagged two doors. That kept the water out!!! After the hurricane, Wycliffe gave us time to clean up. Again, our daughter Jenny and her husband Kevin and their three children came to help us, take down the boarded door, store the sandbags for next time and do yard cleanup. That gave us time to help a single older neighbor repair two sections of his fence that were blown down, a single mom with two kids repair her fence and an elderly neighbor couple clean up their yard. 1|Page

The Hurricane Impact You may be wondering how others in our area did as you probably have seen photos from the news. Our immediate area did see some flooding and just a few blocks away roads were flooded from sidewalk to sidewalk. While we had power throughout the storm, others, including our daughter and her husband’s house went without power for several days. A number of people in Wycliffe and our church haven’t had power for almost a week now and a few families have had significant flooding and have had to move out of their homes.
Papua New Guinea Earthquake A few weeks before the Florida hurricane, the Ukarumpa mission center we worked at for 15 years experienced the strongest earthquake recorded there! There was some damage in this 7.6 level earthquake, but no loss of life. In all our years in PNG we had earthquakes, but nothing like this!

Please pray for those impacted by the hurricane and earthquake and for those who have lost loved ones as both storms resulted in people in the area dying! Please also pray that those Wycliffe members who did sustain some damage will be able to clean up soon. Thank you to everyone who has stood with us in prayer and continued financial support.
