MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS

December 2022 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

We are thankful that this year is ending on a high note. The change of jobs for Chuck has been good for him and he is really enjoying helping Wycliffe members all over the world with issues related to their care. The new Wycliffe team he is on has made him feel very welcomed and the training he has received has been top notch! Barb is also finishing the end of the year strong with many people going out as interns and volunteers.

Thanks to everyone who partners with us in prayer, encouragement and giving. While times have been challenging with higher prices, the Lord has again provided for our needs this year.

We want to take this time to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and pray this new year will be filled with blessings from the Lord as we together declare God’s glory to the nations!!!

Papua New Guinea

While it has been some time since we traveled to Papua New Guinea (PNG), Barb stays in touch with people she is sending as new missionaries there While Chuck is caring for missionaries around the world, he is also providing care for our missionary staff serving in PNG.

Over the years we have continued to stay in touch with people we know from PNG Jonathan and Kathy Wilson are a Bible translation team that we know. They are in their 32nd year of service in PNG and are doing translation work in the Binandere language

Recently the Binandere people hosted the Tainya Dawari, a language group who speak a

dialect of Binandere. Over 100 visitors traveled three days on foot from their villages with gifts of string bags, pots, and sleeping mats to exchange. The ladies in their villages also made gifts to exchange. That’s amazing because the Tainya Dawari and the Binandere people were enemies just 100 years ago. However, the Good News of Jesus has changed that now.

Bible Translation Work

Jonathan and his translation team have been busy at the translation desk hammering out verses in I and II Corinthians and Romans. Previously they had worked on the books of John, Galatians and Hebrews.

Prayer and Praises

• Please pray that the Lord would save Jared and also pray for Jonathan and Kathy Wilson as they work to complete the Binandere New Testament.

• Praise - For time this summer with our son Isaac, his wife Suzanne and son Ambrose who were home on a short break from their work with Wycliffe in Germany. Our daughter Rachel, her husband Chris and their four children also visited us at the same time

• Praise - For time with our grandson Ryan who is attending Taylor University. He spent Thanksgiving weekend with us and we had a great time together!

• Praise - For time this Christmas season attending Christmas programs for our grandchildren Kate and Garrett Struyk.

Partnering With Us

Jonathan and Kathy Wilson in the village house

A highlight of their recent time in the village was selling the Scripture books on market mornings three times a week. Early one morning, Kathy was at the market with Scripture books to sell. While the market was in full swing, Jared, a man from a nearby village, stopped by to purchase a book. Later that day, Jonathan asked Kathy how the day went. She reported the book sold to Jared.

On the following market day Jonathan saw Jared and asked if he had been reading his Binandere Scripture book. Jared replied, “Yes, I’ve been reading the Gospel of John and it’s really good.” Later Jonathan asked a few pastor friends if they knew who Jared was. They replied, “Yes, we know him and he’s a real heathen. Several months ago, we prayed for his son who was very sick and the young man miraculously recovered. But even after that, Jared has never showed up at church.”
