Bible Translation Work in Peru God presented us both a wonderful opportunity in January to visit SIL’s work in Peru. SIL is Wycliffe’s sister organization that actually oversees the Bible translation work Wycliffe is involved in. Chuck went to represent Wycliffe USA at SIL Peru’s annual branch conference held at Huampani, Peru. Chuck gave a presentation about Wycliffe’s USA work and later met with Wycliffe USA members informally to gather their input about Wycliffe’s work. The work in Peru is special to us since it was Barb’s sister and husband (Willie & Kay Gesch) who served in Peru for many years who introduced us to Wycliffe. As we began to support them and read their letters we began to understand God wanted us to become involved. We thought in 1985 that we might serve with them in Peru, but God directed us instead to Papua New Guinea.

Now after 20 years we were greatly encouraged to actually see the progress being made in the Bible translation task in Peru. Out of the 93 living languages in Peru, only eight languages remain that need Bible translation work started. All of the other languages are either finished, in progress or the people are bilingual in a language that has adequate Scripture. We praise God that plans are being made to finish the task in Peru thanks to many Peruvian partners and 60 years of faithful service by Wycliffe Bible Translator members!

ORLANDO UPDATE In our last newsletter we told you about Barb’s job with Mission Next. However, the development of that web site has taken us much longer than anticipated. Therefore I asked Barb to consider being a trip coordinator for our Get Global program.

• Get Global is our short term mission program that provides high school and college students an opportunity to experience translation work firsthand. This year we have trips going to Honduras, Mexico, Kenya and Papua New Guinea. Barb is responsible for the coordination of the first two trips. She will not be going on these trips, but will help make sure the trips are adequately prepared for and the participants are well looked after on the trip.
MOBILIZATION CONVENTION
For safety in travel to Peru and for a full recovery for Chuck after he got a bacterial infection the last two days we were in Peru which landed him in the ER room in Lima! For Emily Brooks and Sandy Claypool (whom we helped recruit in Chicago) as they continue their Bible translation studies at our GIAL school in Dallas, TX! They are just two of more than 80 people who recently began to formally investigate service with Wycliffe. Please pray for Josh & Maria as they continue with their plans to move to Germany to serve with SIL’s office there.

Pray for our monthly financial support. Since coming to Orlando our support level continues to decrease slightly each month. As supporters retire or stop for a variety of reasons we need new people to join our financial team. Currently we are at a 92% support level and need $ 370 a month to bring us up to 100% support. Please pray for 8 people who will support us for $ 50 a month or any other combination. Pray for God to supply our need!
Since the 150 Mobilizers Chuck supervises had never gotten together as a team, Chuck hosted the first Mobilization convention in January. We gathered at a church camp in Florida to be refreshed by devotions, prayer, workshops and other training events. Mobilizers came away better trained and equipped to do their recruiting work. Our goal is to recruit 7000 new members by 2014. Our theme was “Together in Unity” from Psalm 133:1. Can you spot us? You’ll need to look closely!!!
