MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS November 2018 Update

The Baruga Bible Dedication The Baruga people of Papua New Guinea (PNG) have much to be thankful for this year. That is because the New Testament in their language was recently dedicated. (Watch The Baruga Bible Dedication https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbZds5TaP0)

The Baruga people had a huge celebration on this occasion because for centuries their language was only an oral one and so whenever anyone told them about Jesus, once that person left, the message left with them. Now, Jesus walks with them and speaks their language!!! At the Baruga Bible dedication

The Baruga language is located in the Oro Province of PNG

Bible Translation Progress! Each year we give an update on the progress of Bible translation and this year, as in the past, the number of languages with access to all or some of the Bible continues to increase significantly. The importance of your partnership with us in this work as you pray, give and support with words of encouragement cannot be overstated. It really does take a team of workers and for that we give thanks!!!

As we prayed and discussed the various options, we have decided to continue on in our work with Wycliffe for a number of more years. We still see the fruit of new workers entering into our work as Wycliffe members, we are still in good health and also know the Bible translation task is far from over.

Gift and Estate Planning One practical question we face as we continue on has to do with our finances. Recently Wycliffe put on a workshop to help us with this. In this meeting we learned how Wycliffe can help people with gift and estate planning as they steward their finances as well as begin or continue to support Wycliffe missionaries. The planned giving options presented were many and varied and tailor-made for each individual. In the workshop they shared a number of stories of how people were able to meet their own financial needs, decrease their taxes and increase their giving to their charitable causes, including Wycliffe missionaries. So, we are writing to ask if you be interested in exploring these options? If so, Wycliffe has financial staff people who work with the Wycliffe Foundation office that will assist you in discussing what options would be best for you now or in the future. This service is free and has no obligation. You can contact us for details or the Wycliffe Foundation:

Our Work Continues This past year we had to do some soul searching about our work. Should we continue on working with Wycliffe as we near what would be a normal retirement age, or should we retire? As we began to think and pray about this, we sought advice from our children and their spouses and it has been good to have them speak into our lives at this point. We sought advice from Wycliffe’s Senior Service team who are there to guide Wycliffe members at this stage of life and we also sought help from people who have devoted their lives to working with Wycliffe staff as they deal with issues related to finances for people our age. All have been helpful to us and we thank God for each one!
