MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS Special Edition 30 Years Ago We Joined Wycliffe (1985 – 2015)

When we arrived in 1985 there were already over 50 New Testament projects completed and in the 15 years we served there that number increased to 125! Today we are happy to report that the Gospel continues its advance in PNG and almost 200 New Testaments have been completed. That means that over two million people now have access to the Word of God in their own heart language!!!

Work continues in PNG on over 100 Bible translation projects. However, the sad reality is that still over 280 language communities in PNG are waiting for a Bible translation project to be started. To reach all of these language communities we not only need hundreds of Bible translators, but we also need hundreds of support workers to carry on the work. We need many teachers for the missionary children, pilots, accountants, managers and a host of other workers.

1985 - Our First Wycliffe Introduce Card

Please pray for success in our recruiting work so that we would see all of these languages reached with the Gospel.

It was January 13, 1985 when we first arrived at Ukarumpa in Papua New Guinea (PNG), ready to take up missionary work with Wycliffe. We arrived ready to serve the Lord with four small children and a dozen suitcases. Our crates and barrels with personal effects arrived soon afterwards. Only 30 years earlier the area had been a place of tribal warfare and cannibalism. However, we found that by 1985 the Gospel had already begun its work in the hearts of the people. We also found Ukarumpa a great place to work, raise a family and host a Bible translation training center. Today it is the largest Bible translation center in the world.

A Needed Partnership Development Trip Planned For Late Spring or Summer 2015 We are planning a month long visit to the Michigan area and surrounding states sometime in late spring or early summer to meet with our current supporters and churches and express our thanks and to seek out new opportunities to share the vision of our ministry with Wycliffe. 1985 - Our family visiting Tanggu village

We would love to visit your church to report on our work as well as meet with you who are receiving this newsletter. We know we can’t visit everyone, but we do hope to see as many of you as possible who desire to do so. Perhaps your church would love to hear about the work of Bible translation. If you would like us to come and speak about the ministry of Bible translation and our work at your church, small group, youth group, Bible study or for a home meeting with your circle of friends please let us know. Our contact information is found below.
