MICHEALS’ MEMOIRS Fall Update August 2020 While the impact of COVID-19 continues to impact our work, we are happy to say that worldwide, 80% of the Bible translation projects are still progressing along. IT technology and ZOOM have made it possible for Bible translators to continue their work, even if they are not physically present in the locations they were before. We praise the Lord that at just the right time, God has made a way for the work of Bible translation to flourish! The biggest way that COVID-19 has impacted our work is not being able to travel. A number of new Wycliffe Members that Chuck has been working with are ready to leave for their field of assignment, but haven’t been able to do so. Restrictions by the countries where they will work, the airlines that fly to these locations and even Wycliffe Health standards have meant that new Members have had to wait to go to the field. This has impacted the Missionary Kid (MK) schools greatly. The 40 MK schools Wycliffe recruits for just have not been able to get new teachers to their schools. The MK school at Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea (PNG) has not been able to get a single new educator to PNG since March! Yet, schooling needs to happen for the MKs still there. So, will you pray that our MK teachers will be able to get to their schools very soon as the school semesters have or will very soon start. Another way COVID-19 has impacted our recruitment work is our inability to get on college campuses to recruit. The spring semester this past school year saw almost every college closed down with classes all online. Thus, it has been
difficult to meet education majors getting ready to start teaching. This has meant that Wycliffe has had to enter the world of recruiting using social media. One of those ways involves online teacher recruitment fairs. Last year we wrote about three recruitment fairs our education recruitment team went to at three different college campuses. This year will be doing those fairs for these same colleges, but using new online technology for our recruitment team called “Career Fair Plus”.

Another online platform we have just started using is called “Handshake.” Our first Handshake online career fair will be at Palm Beach Atlantic University on September 2, 2020. Chuck’s Education Recruiter, Kim Nelson, will be using this system for the first time. Kim will be able to make 3 - 30 minute online presentations and then have 1:1 sessions with students. Each presentation will include a brief Wycliffe overview, an education presentation on staff needs and then a brief Q&A time. Please pray for Kim as she learns this new online platform and makes these presentations and then meets with students using Handshake.
