National Lifeguard
REQUIRED
The National Lifeguard Pool certification is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgement, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The National Lifeguard course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principals and practices and decision making processes which will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. 100% attendance is required. Must be able to swim 400m in 10 minutes by the end of the course. Prerequisites: 15 years old (by last day of course), Bronze Cross (need not be current), Standard First Aid (need not be current), *AMOA is taught within the NL Pool full course. Includes: Alert Manual and whistle. Must bring pocket mask. Total training Hours: 44 Hours, classroom and water sessions Location: SEAPARC Leisure Complex
Successful completion of this course will certify you to teach Lifesaving Swim for Life lessons. The course includes practice teaching time which will be set up individually with the Aquatic Program Assistant Trevor Smith tmsmith@crd.bc.ca. British Columbia and Yukon High School students can use Lifesaving Society certifications for credit toward high school graduation as follows: • Bronze Cross is worth 2 credits for Grade 11. • Bronze Cross and Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) are worth 3 credits for Grade 11. • National Lifeguard Pool option (NL) is worth 2 credits for Grade 12.
