LOOKING BACK Student Ambassadorship Program At the beginning of the year, World Vision had a call for applications for the Student Ambassadorship Program. The past year, out of more than 60 students, 23 students from De La Salle-Zobel, Enderun Colleges, Homeschool Global, Singapore School Cebu, and more, have continued to persevere in the program called SEED SAP and have journeyed through the lens of compassion and generosity at the heart of World Vision. With the desire to shape and empower young minds and future leaders of society, World Vision will be opening a call for applications yearly to high school and college students under the Youth Ambassadorship Program. These students will take part in World Vision’s initiatives with the opportunities to volunteer, lead, and influence.

5K Campaign Challenge Students across the Philippines responded to the call to support fellow children and their families affected by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, by actively participating in World Vision’s 5K Campaign Challenge, a fundraising initiative for the benefit of the child-focused organization’s COVID-19 Emergency Response. The 5K Campaign Challenge aimed to encourage students to raise funds for a timely cause, by engaging their peers and relatives to uplift the affected families’ capacity to meet basic needs during the pandemic. Eager students, who joined the challenge accomplished and even exceeded their respective fundraising goals to support at least 5 families. Some were able to assist as many as 50 families. Participating schools, including Singapore School Cebu, Enderun Colleges, De La Salle University of Manila, De La

Salle Zobel, and Noah’s Ark Angel Learning Center, jointly raised a total amount of PHP 280,000 from May 1 to June 30, 2020. All these proceeds will be used to support over 280 COVID-19 affected families. In the Virtual Congratulatory Event, World Vision recognized students who reached the largest contribution to make the initiative a resounding success. The Top Advocates or students, who encouraged others to join the campaign, are Gabbie Ecito (Noah’s Ark Angel Learning Center), Reese San Juan (Singapore School Cebu) and Maegan Yap (Singapore School Cebu). The First Achievers or students, who first achieved the target goal of 5 families and above, are Justine Romero (Singapore School Cebu), Marianne Laciste (De La Salle University of Manila), and Kyle Villapando (De La Salle Zobel).

inspiring everyone to unite and become #OneForChildren especially during this challenging period. Gretchen Ho delightly commended the students for stepping up to give what they have for those in need. “Through this campaign, young people are given an opportunity to bless others,” said Gretchen. Meanwhile, Janina Vela emphasized about what really counts in helping others at a time such as this. “It really does not matter how big your bank account is. What matters is how big your heart is,” shared Janina. The Top Fundraisers of the 5K Campaign Challenge are Chloe Suarez (Singapore School Cebu), Bede Capulong (Singapore School Cebu), and Chelsea Abcede (Enderun Colleges). “I’m extending my gratitude to World Vision for giving young people like us the trust in what we can do. To those who are interested in joining a child-focused advocacy like 5K Campaign Challenge or the other initiatives by World Vision, just try it. You will learn a lot of things from it, you can be better, and help many along the way,” said Chloe Suarez, the Top Fundraiser from Singapore School Cebu who was able to raise PHP 50,000 for the initiative. World Vision Celebrity Ambassadors Gretchen Ho and Janina Vela led the 5K Campaign Challenge, by

Virtual Youth Summit Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, World Vision remained committed to fulfilling its mission of empowering the young generation as over 2,300 attendees joined its yearly youth summit. Held online for the first time, World Vision’s Youth Summit was organized to provide a platform to discuss relevant and critical issues among the Filipino youth that need to be addressed today. The topics and speakers during the summit are “The Effect of the Pandemic to the Mental Health of the Youth” by Dr. Gia Sison of Women’s Wellness Center in Makati Medical Center, “Servant Leadership and Youth Development” by Althea Antonio of 2030 YouthForce, “The Impact of COVID 19 to the Philippine Economy” by JC Punongbayan of UP School of Economics, and “Social Awareness and Youth Empowerment” by World Vision Ambassador Janina Vela. It ended with a message from United Nations Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador, Arom Araullo, who challenged the youth to be strong and fearless, and to take the lead for change. “Thank you to everyone, especially the thousands of youth, who joined our first-ever virtual youth summit,” said Rommel V. Fuerte, National Director of World Vision. “As God encourages the young to set an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity, your World Vision family will pray for you and together with our partners, we will continue to implement programs that will improve the lives of the most vulnerable children.”
