Whisper partners with World Vision for Presko School Caravan

Celebrating the Women’s Month, Whisper has brought young girls even closer together through the PRESKO Campus Caravan. With World Vision Philippines, the caravan has kicked off in President Corazon High School (Baseco), Sauyo High School (Quezon City) and Catmon Integrated High School (Malabon City). Apart from interactive talks and educational games on period, the event also encouraged

students to freely share their questions, struggles, and stories about menstruation and normalize period conversations.

Setting another milestone for the brand’s advocacy on menstrual hygiene and girl empowerment, Whisper’s PRESKO squad has now grown to include school communities in what was dubbed as the PRESKOmmunity. Newly officiated Campus Ambassadors proudly embraced their new role in leading their school in the sharing of PRESKOnfidence, breaking the stigma around menstruation, and putting a period to #PeriodDistancing by sharing more information on menstrual hygiene and confidence.

World Vision believes all women and girls have the right to menstruate with confidence, with dignity and with support. Its programs address all aspects of menstrual health and hygiene including policy and advocacy, timely and accurate knowledge about menstruation, social norms around menstruation, access to safe and affordable menstrual hygiene materials, and access to sanitation and washing facilities.

Malabon kids explore wonders of science. Thirty-seven World Vision-supported children from Malabon had an educational tour of the Mind Museum in Taguig recently. The event was organized by World Vision with the support of Bank of America Philippines. During the trip, the children who are in Grade 6 in school, learned several facts about science, and participated in fun-filled experiments together with Bank of America employees, who served as their “ates” and “kuyas” that day. “This [educational tour] is a great area where we can learn outside the four corners of a classroom,” Bank of America Philippines country president Vince Valdepenas said. The tour was the culminating activity of Bank of America and World Vision’s Brigada Pagbasa Learning in Times of Emergencies (LITE) bag project, which provides reading intervention activities through virtual platforms. Under this project, a school is provided a digital education toolbox — consisting of laptops for teachers and tablets for students. (Katrina

TELUS International Philippines supports Brigada Pagbasa

As children from Malabon return to face-to-face reading remedial classes, World Vision and TELUS International Philippines has commenced the Brigada Pagbasa remedial reading classes program, with 16 Saturdays from March to June 2023 and 30 elementary student attendees. TELUS previously conducted 16 Brigada Pagbasa sessions with students in Manila, but the sessions were held via Zoom.

“We will be with you throughout your remedial sessions. We are very excited to see your progress in these classes,” TELUS International Philippines Corporate Social Responsibility Senior Manager Phoebe Carrera shared. “We hope that from the first to the last sessions, you will carry the same energy and passion in learning.”

Brigada Pagbasa is an after-school reading program that aims to enhance the culture of reading among Filipinos, as well as improving children’s literacy and reading comprehension. The Department of Education and World Vision serve as the co-lead convenor.

JP Morgan Chase provides employment opportunities to high school graduates

On March 29, 2023, senior high school graduates from Mandaue and Sogod, Cebu participated in JPMorgan Chase & Co’s Uplift Program, a bridgeto-employment initiative that seeks to improve employability of high school graduates aged 18 years old and above with no corporate experience.

Through partnerships with non-government organizations like World Vision, JPMorgan Chase & Co aims to tap into the potential of K-12 graduates by assessing their skills, enhancing their employability and providing trainings on communications, customer service, problem solving and analytical thinking. Once the trainings are concluded, graduates will receive endorsements that they could use when they apply for employement.

The Uplift Program supports the Department of Education’s goal to produce high school graduates, who are not only qualified to pursue higher education, but also capable to join the workforce by using the skills they have acquired through the K-12 program. In the past, World Vision and JPMorgan Chase & Co have worked together to provide online workshops to students under the DepEd’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) and volunteer opportunities for their employees.
