Far-flung schools in Bohol receive new workbooks from Telus, World Vision
World Vision and Telus International recently turned over workbooks, which will help students in far-flung schools with difficulty or no access to the Internet or communications gadgets, to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division in Bohol.
“[Helping schools] is our social purpose. Our corporate social responsibility is to give where we live—give where it is needed the most,” Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Phoebe Carrera said.
DepEd Bohol’s Schools Division Superintendent Bianito Dagatan received the workbooks and emphasized the need of some schools for printed materials to help children learn, especially when education was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Aggravated because of the pandemic, many of our learners can read yet cannot understand, especially when they were at home for 2 years,” Dagatan expressed.
“World Vision works together with other partners in reaching and helping out struggling learners,” World Vision Operations Managerin Visayas Faith Sy shared, reiterating the organization’s commitment to support DepEd’s Learning Continuity Plan (LCP).
LCP is DepEd’s strategic direction for public and private schools to ensure that students acquire essential learning competencies amid the COVID-19 pandemic. World Vision supports this direction through the Brigada Pagbasa Campaign, a five-year project that promotes the culture of reading and improves functional literacy among children. Brigada Pagbasa is oftentimes implemented in partnership with private companies, key community players and/or parents.
