LOOKING BACK Mindanao Earthquake Response World Vision is grateful for churches such as Union Church of Manila and Victory Fort in supporting the relief response in Mindanao, helping 1,300 families or 7,397 individuals with relief goods, providing 1,925 children with child-friendly spaces, and helping 3,233 children in 10 temporary learning spaces. It was a great opportunity to love like Jesus with actions to Muslim kababayans.

Taal Volcano Eruption Response During the first quarter of 2020, the Taal Volcano Eruption erupted and families in Tagaytay, Batangas, and other neighboring communities were affected. Union Church of Manila supported World Vision’s efforts not only financially, but also by allowing them to set up an art gallery called “Art of Hope” at the church lobby in Makati. “Art of Hope” featured paintings from Addie Cukingnan and masterpieces from inmates in the New Bilibid Prison. This initiative raised a total of Php 38,000, which helped World Vision provide learning kits to children from World Vision’s community in Batangas.

COVID-19 Response

On the first three months of community quarantine in the Philippines, many hearts were anxious and afraid. World Vision gathered Christian influencers such as Joena San Diego, Nate and Pauline Punzalan, Jericho Arceo, and the Perkins Twins to pray for the different concerns of the nation.

Songs of Hope Songs of Hope was a series that featured celebrity ambassadors and influencers who sang to encourage Filipinos to hope during troubled times. To culminate the series, six different churches, namely CCF Exalt, Favor Church, Living Word, Union Church of Manila, Victory Katipunan, and Victory Worship, were gathered for the “Songs of Hope – Worship Night.”

Why We Worship

by Favor Church

“Worship is our gift to the Lord.” We were invited by World Vision to participate in “Songs of Hope”, an online fundraising concert featuring worship teams of other churches. We felt honored and blessed to be among other Christ-believers, sharing that time of remembrance and strengthening everyone who worshiping with us with positive messages of hope, songs of praise, and heartfelt prayers. We believe that there is power in corporate worship, especially as when we do it as one united Church, lifting up the name of God in the middle of our circumstances. World Vision’s efforts in bringing us together remind us that we should not give up on worship, even as we continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our communities. Worshiping with joy and gladness as we work, serve, and as we go about our everyday lives is the best tool, gift, and blessing we can carry with us on this journey. We hope that everyone who had joined us for “Songs of Hope” felt just as refreshed and encouraged as we do.” Full article: https://www.worldvision.org.ph/blog-for-children/why-we-worship/

Faith for the Future – Webinar Series World Vision in the Philippines, in partnership with Barna Group, is now one amongst the 20+ countries to have conducted this forum. It was launched in September 2019 as a free global webcast that tackled the following: Effective Ministry in an Anxious Age—understanding the cultural and demographic context for this generation and to remain connected and relevant to 18-35-year-olds. Spirituality & Church Engagement—discovering what the future of faith looks like and what the connected generation expects to give to and receive from their churches. Empowering the Connected Generation—featuring leadership development pathways and causes that resonate most with today’s Gen Z and Millennials.

World Vision was greatly honoured to have guest speakers, such as Daniel Copeland of Barna, Pastor Paolo Punzalan of Victory Fort, Pastor Mel and Pastor AJ of Living Word Christian Churches, Edric and Joy Mendoza of CCF and Homeschool Global, and Pastor Glenn of By the Word and Ms. Charm of World Vision. For six Saturdays, speakers talked about the connected generation, addressing the youth in the congregation, the importance of discipleship for the next generation, of maximizing social media in the digital age, and of shaping the next generation within the family, and reaching the vulnerable youth in the community. The connected generation doesn’t merely want to be consumers but contributors in church, family, and in society. Not only do the young people want to see that Christianity is true, but out of its abundance, exhibits good.

Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Ulysses Responses World Vision is honored to have different churches join together to help families affected by Typhoon Rolly (international name Goni) and Typhoon Ulysses (international name Vamco). A big thanks is given to Jesus Cornerstone Christian Ministries, Living Word Christian Churches of Cebu International Inc., Living Word Metro North, Victory Fort, and Word for the World Mandaluyong. Together, the partner churches and World Vision join as one to provide hygiene kits that include toothbrush, toothpaste, laundry and bath soaps, malong (traditional tube skirt), sanitary pads, nail cutter, underwear, and non-food items, such as blankets and mosquito nets, which families can use while they are seeking refuge in temporary shelters. World Vision is asking churches to continue praying for the safety and protection of the affected families and children, as well as all the people currently on the ground, who are working tirelessly to assist them. World Vision has also partnered with Philippine Bible Society to distribute Bibles to communities in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon. The organization is hopeful that the combined efforts and prayers can rebuild communities and help them recover from the calamities.

MOVING FORWARD The year 2020 may be one of the most difficult years for Filipinos, from the coronavirus outbreak to the consecutive typhoons. The Songs of Joy will be aired on December 16, 2020 at 7 PM “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…He will be called Wonderful on the official World Vision Facebook and YouTube pages.
