LOOKING BACK Students nationwide participate in World Vision’s Virtual Youth Summit 2.0 Over 300 students representing schools in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao converged online to participate in the World Visioninitiated Virtual Youth Summit 2.0 dubbed “Finding meaning in school, family, and society during the pandemic”. The summit aimed to raise awareness about trending social issues affecting the young generation, especially the students’ mental health (MH) during the pandemic, as well as discuss about positive solutions to cope and address MH-related problems at various degrees from personal, family, and even institutional level such as in the school. During the forum online, the youth participants were given the opportunity to both listen and express themselves about the tackled topics, to encourage their voice as change-makers of society. Participants also heard from resource speakers and influencers, namely Dr. RJ Naguit, Jennel Reyes, Janina Vela, Catherine Green, Shawntel Nieto, Patrick Manuel, and Monci Hinay, who all offered valuable perspectives and motivation among participants to find meaning in school, family, and society even in the midst of the lingering COVID-19 crisis. World Vision hoped that through this youth-focused virtual event, the young people of today become more informed and inspired to be well-rounded students, and individuals.

Riyaa’s Chocolates bring joy to children for Noche Buena International School Manila’s Riyaa Vakharia continues to spread hope and bring joy to children. Through her business Riyaa’s Chocolate, she shared her earnings to provide Noche Buena meals to bring joy and smiles to children and their families last Christmas. Like Riyaa, World Vision encourages the youth to strive and reap from hard work, and they can also share their blessings and experience the joy of doing good for others.

Brent International School of Manila, International School of Manila, and Student Ambassador Candidates of 2021 join the Global 6K Run Schools, students, and even the school faculty joined thousands of others around the

globe, to run and walk in solidarity for children and women who have been deprived of a basic need - clean and safe water!

In the Philippines, students and teachers from Brent International School of Manila, International School of Manila, and a number of World Vision Student Ambassador candidates of 2021 joined the massive Global 6K Run to promote clean water and handwashing for the protection against water-borne and viral diseases like COVID-19. World Vision’s Global 6K for Water has been a growing movement of people from all over the world walking and running six kilometers (3.73 miles), which is believed to be the average distance that women and children in most developing countries walk every day for water that is sometimes even unsafe to drink. Through the Global 6K Run and other water-focused interventions, World Vision reaches one new person with clean water every 10 seconds and one new person with handwashing promotion. Every child deserves clean water to drink — and clean water for handwashing, to help keep most children healthy.

More Student Ambassadors come forward to champion World Vision’s cause in 2021 onwards In 2021, students across the country joined World Vision’s Student Ambassadorship Program which aimed to encourage the youth to advocate for vulnerable children and their families. The 8-month program raised social awareness and trained young minds to become the voice for the Filipino children of today. Among the steps required to be a Student Ambassador, are to actively participate in the 5K Campaign Challenge and join the SAP 2021 Online Event “Bigkis”, which showcased the skills, creativity, and dedication of the candidates. 67 student ambassador candidates also supported the ongoing Abutin Na10 education program, as they collectively raised Php 315,000, as of June 30,2021, aiming to provide gadgets and modules to support at least 3,150 children. The Abutin Na10 Campaign has been a partnership between World Vision and the Department of Education (DepEd) to help ensure that more students in the country, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, are equipped and can cope with the learning modalities implemented in their areas. The Student Ambassadorship Program 2021 was also highlighted by the joint effort of all participating ambassadors when they organized the event dubbed “Bahagian.” Through “Bahagian”, the Student Ambassadors had the opportunity to present the various issues faced by the Filipino youth. The student ambassadors also pledged their commitment to do their share in building a better world for the underprivileged youth in the Philippines. In response, World Vision organizers commended the new batch of Student Ambassadors for using their voice for the voiceless of today’s society. World Vision also acknowledged its 5K Campaign Challenge 2021 sponsors Promate, Urbanize, and U|Elements for recognizing and celebrating the outstanding efforts made by the participating youth candidates.
