World Vision Newsletter for Church Partnerships
October- December 2021
LOOKING BACK Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao join Faith for the Future 2.0 In September 2021, World Vision hosted another Faith for the Future Webinar, with the vision to minister to church leaders, millennials, and first-time attendees in the digital era. By gathering digital ministries, Christian organizations, senior leaders of churches, and millennials to tackle the issues and advantages of digital ministry, World Vision hoped to help each attendee to navigate and persevere in the new blended realm of church. Participants had the opportinity to gain a deeper understanding of the role of the body of Christ in these challenging times, through different sessions and panel discussions on faith among millennials and the next generation, the church and its engagements with online, its relevance in society, utilizing media for ministry, Christian organizations’ role in the church, and discipleship in the digital age. The webinar is sponsored by OMF Literature and the Philippine Bible Society, who send books and tracts to attendees.
Christians unite in prayer
To conclude 2021 and welcome 2022, World Vision gathered individuals from different churches and denominations to unite in prayer. The organization invited Pastor Carlo Rosacay of Lighthouse Community Church to share an exhortation and Pastor Benjie Panganiban of Salt & Light Church from Baseco, Manila, to share his church’s testimony in the midst of the pandemic. Together, attendees prayed for different concerns of the church and the nation. They prayed for the churches represented in the call, World Vision’s partner churches in the field, families affected by Typhoon Odette, the upcoming elections, and the healing and protection of children and families.
Churches unite for the Typhoon Odette Emergency Response When one of the most devastating typhoons, Typhoon Odette, hit the Philippines right before Christmas, churches joined together to help bring relief to families most affected. Churches like Victory Fort, Favor Church, Word for the World Mandaluyong, and JCCM Caloocan heeded the call to be a blessing to Filipinos, who suffered greatly from the typhoon. A month after Typhoon Odette (international name Rai) entered Philippine shores and left billions worth of agriculture and infrastructure damages, child-focused and relief aid organization World Vision supported more than 9,000 families, including 10,912 children, with life-saving relief aid in the provinces of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Surigao del Norte. World Vision distributed more than 2,000 food packs, 2,200 hygiene kits, 1,600 kitchen kits, 2,200 non-food items, 1,000 shelter kits, and 900 water purification kits to families who were left without electricity, homes, water, and communications signal for weeks. Praise God for His provision and strength, which enabled the organization, with the help of our generous church partners and donors, to bring the necessary goods to affected communities.
LOOKING FORWARD Be the first church to be Chosen in the Philippines! What does it mean to be Chosen™? In John 15:16, Jesus said, “You did not choose me but I chose you.” For decades, Child Sponsorship has always been about the sponsors choosing a child to support. This time, World Vision reverses the narrative by giving children the opportunity to choose their sponsor/s. Churches all over the world have been taking the step to be chosen and we hope you could be part of this experience. World Vision believes the church is the institution God has established to transform lives. As Jesus has chosen us, we believe that He has also chosen us to minister to the lives of children. When we share our blessings to children in need, we are also transformed.
Join World Vision’s Faith for the Future Mini-Series Although Faith for the Future has been running for the past two years, there is still much to explore and discover about the next generation and the effective ways to minister to them. World Vision is organizing a panel discussion with Christian influencers, pastors, and leaders to dive deeper into this topic and answer questions that churches have on faith and digital ministry. Stay tuned for more information on the dates and speakers!
Global Youth Study launch with Barna Group In relation to Faith for the Future, World Vision has partnered with Barna, Biblica and Alpha to produce a global study on teenagers and their receptiveness to Jesus, the Bible and fighting poverty and injustice. This research will include surveys of teens in selected countries around the world, producing a first-of-its-kind crosscultural examination of a generation that many church leaders and parachurch ministries are struggling to connect with. It will also position partners in equipping Christian leaders, who are struggling to make deep and meaningful inroads with teens given this cultural shift, especially in making the claim that the ancient text of the Bible has authoritative, immersive relevance—and that it should matter to teenagers. The study will survey youth across more than 25 countries, including the Philippines, and include the voices of vulnerable youth connected to World Vision’s field work. It will be released in October 2022, through published journals, global website, digital engagements and country-level events.
