Oh Dam!t, Humanitee donates to World Vision for the Abutin Na10 Campaign Student-run organizations have proven to be beacons of hope for the next generation. As more young people join together for the sake of the most vulnerable, they are able to achieve more. Take Oh Dam!t by St. Jude Catholic School students as examples. They were able to raise educational materials for nearly 80 children through the Abutin Na10 Campaign.

The coronavirus pandemic brought challenges to many of our countrymen. Thus, we initiated Oh, Dam!t, a non-profit project aimed to raise funds for charitable organizations and causes through the selling of reasonably priced apparel. Many Filipino students were not fortunate enough to continue their education when the current academic year began. Recognizing that education is one of humanity’s greatest assets, we unveiled the HumaniTEE Collection and dedicated it to aspiring students. Having attended a youth seminar by World Vision Philippines, one of our members was inspired by the organization’s vision of hope, joy, and justice for all children. She shared her experiences and insights, which compelled us to choose World Vision as the beneficiary of the collection. Organizing charity projects online was definitely a new experience for us. Time management became the largest hurdle all of us had to overcome. Nevertheless, with our unity, vision, and perseverance, we were able to pull it off. Through our collective efforts, we hope to create a community wherein we can uplift one another, together. - Oh, Dam!t Team

Students Raise Funds for World Vision One of World Vision’s joys is witnessing young people step up to be of service to others. World Vision values the importance of the youth today and it commends such students who use their time and resources to give to those in need.

Determined with the cause, I decided to donate 100% of the profits to the needy. My aim was to bring a smile to the face of the person who ate my handcrafted artisan chocolates and the child who would benefit from the proceeds.”

Meet Riyaa Vakharia, a student who dedicated the income of her small business to World Vision children.

The income of her venture was used for good as it was given for the children’s Noche Buena. Her food business resulted to food on the table on Christmas for the most vulnerable children, bringing joy and hope to their homes.

Riyaa, a student of International School Manila, was inspired to use her small business for good. In her article she wrote, “I began to understand the void that I felt and wasted no time to start my venture,“Riyaa’s Chocolates.”

Student Ambassadors 2020 organize an online event: Furthermore

One of the exciting events this quarter was the culminating activity of World Vision’s Student Ambassadors 2020. Their batch single-handedly planned, organized, and implemented their own online event called Furthermore. From start to finish, Bede, Brianna, Chloe, Daniella, Elijah, Elysha, Eonn, Justine, Kyle, Lee, Liam, Maegan, Marianna, Marta, Nathan, Youmin, and Chloe managed the event by inviting speakers, creating publicity materials, learning streaming softwares, and many more. The student ambassadors gathered speakers Daniella Guerrero, Perkins Twins, Adrian Ding, Caroline Veronilla, and Nicole Roraldo to talk about 3 T’s: Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, and Take Action. These young people went beyond themselves, took action, and encouraged others to do the same. World Vision applauds the organizers for an informative and fun live event that was joined by other youth across the country.

Graduates of the STUDENT AMBASSADORSHIP PROGRAM 2020 The student ambassador candidates who organized Furthermore are now official Student Ambassadors of World Vision. 16 students from different schools such as Singapore School Cebu, Homeschool Global, and De La Salle Zobel finished World Vision’s eight-month program. World Vision commends its newest Student Ambassadors for persevering through the steps of the program, learning about World Vision, fundraising, raising awareness and more.

These Student Ambassadors are recoginzed for giving their time, treasure, and talents for the cause of World Vision children and families. Truly, they have proved to be good role models for the emerging generation. World Vision has high hopes for the youth as these student ambassadors represent the organization and schools in being advocates and agents of change. Expect to see more of these ambassadors in the upcoming school engagement related events! Want to know more about the Student Ambassadorship Program? Get in touch with us.

Habitat for Humanity – St. Jude Catholic School fundraise and conduct a virtual storybook reading The Habitat for Humanity chapter in St. Jude Catholic School organized a Storybook Donation Drive in their desire to do a virtual storybook reading with ING World Vision children from Baseco, Manila. The storybook reading was conducted via Messenger Rooms with different age groups from kindergarten to grade 4 kids. The donation money raised by the drive was used to provide prepaid internet connection to students so that they could participate in the virtual program. The storybook reading was filled with games and interactive activities. Although the organization envisioned community programs differently before the pandemic, World Vision recognizes organizations, clubs, and schools that go the extra mile to meet the needs of children during these unprecedented times. Let us continue to work together whether in big or small ways to reach the most vulnerable.

Reedley International School partners with World Vision World Vision’s goal is to be a medium for social awareness and action. Which is why World Vision is honored to partner with Reedley International School (RIS) in their advocacies. Through Reedley’s Social Community Action Program (RSCAP), students of RIS were given the opportunity to help the most vulnerable in different areas of World Vision’s communities. Some students raised funds through bake sales, company sponsorships, and other means. RIS students were free to choose advocacies that assisted campaigns and projects of World Vision namely, the Abutin Na10 Campaign, MRF Facility in Cebu, PPE kits for teachers in Cebu, and FAITH Livelihood Project. Students enrolled in the RSCAP donated a significant amount for each advocacy that will ultimately assist the most vulnerable children and families in their communities.

The Covid-19 pandemic affected almost every aspect of our lives, especially education. Reedley International School’s high school department saw it paramount that our outreach and community programs should continue even through the digital platform. We introduced the five advocacy programs that our JHS 10 students can choose from, namely, Education For All Advocacy Program, Environmental Advocacy Program, Global Infectious Disease Advocacy Program, Massive Step Up in Fight Against Poverty Advocacy Program, and Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Advocacy Program. The students conducted their information campaign to make the Reedley community aware of these global issues, and we are fortunate enough to have World Vision Philippines as our partner in this endeavor. Their programs and communities became the beneficiaries of our students in the fundraising and sponsorship activities they implemented. It is motivating for the students and the Reedley community to know that their hard work will change someone’s life for the better. It is such an extraordinary experience to reach out even from a distance, and through digital means. This only showed us that no matter what the situation is if one’s heart is dedicated to sharing a piece of their effort to people in need, it surely will happen. Reedley, especially our JHS 10 students, are grateful for this partnership with World Vision Philippines. Together, we have made someone’s life better than it was yesterday. - Reedley International School

As schools have shifted online, World Vision is also dedicated to continue its school partnerships to raise social awareness among the youth, albeit virtually. If your school would like to take part in community service, you may get in touch with our school engagement team at lyca_caparros@wvi.org.

World Vision as the beneficiary of Multiple Intelligence International School’s Youth Innovation Challenge The Multiple Intelligence International School organized the Youth Innovation Challenge (YIC) as a platform for innovation among the youth. We believe that no matter your background or experience, students can - with the proper mindset and toolset - start creating a better world. This is why we chose World Vision to be a partnerbeneficiary in YIC 2021. World Vision shares our understanding that the youth are our hope for the future, and their mission to alleviate poverty in our communities is something that we at MIIS are also committed to. - Luigi Conti, Marketing and Business Development Officer

World Vision is grateful to be a part of Multiple Intelligence International School’s (MIIS) YIC 2021, where young minds were not only empowered to be innovators, but also encouraged to be compassionate to the most vulnerable children and families. With gratitude, World Vision remains dedicated to delivering MIIS resources to children’s education. As children all over the Philippines continue to face the challenge of distance and modular education, World Vision and its partners such as MIIS provide means for children to continue their studies. Together, we can make a difference.
