Just take one look at your gym or party playlist – riddled with hits by Ariana, Gaga, Beyoncé, Lizzo, P!nk and Madonna – and you'll believe me. Still, there's another girls club you may not be on a firstname basis with; not yet at least. They hover on the fringe of fame, dropping the occasional anthem, then mysteriously creep back into the crowd until their next big surprise hit. They've not yet earned the title of queen or princess, but they still make you wanna drop everything and treat your treadmill like it's the middle of the dance floor. One of those divas is Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo, and her new album Sunshine Kitty, may just be your next obsession. The 31-year-old singer-songwriter crashed the party back in 2014 with her breakout hit "Habits (Stay High)," an anthem for anyone who likes to deal with their break-ups in the most deliciously unhealthy ways. Then again, who doesn't? It must have worked, because it wasn't long before her follow up "Talking Body," started chatting us up with lyrics like, "If we're talking body, you've got a perfect one, so put it on me." Tove's gift for wordplay and fearless attitude have led her to collaborations with some of Europe's major players, like Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Alesso, Major Lazer, Ellie Goulding, and Zara Larsson. And how can we forget her part in the slow-burning Nick Jonas track "Close?"

I'm vulnerable, but not angry, It's the same emotional honesty – yet happy." Whatever the reason, the result is Tove's best work ever, perfectly tip-toeing the line between relevant pop and rebellious experimentation. ure, Rome hosts a very fab Pride celebration. As usual, Italians, many Europeans and plenty of Americans attend one of the most spectacular Pride festivals in the world. Yes, there is plenty to engage visitors during Rome Pride every year. Add in the appeal of dining in Rome and, well, the appeal of the Italian people and Euro-visitors, and one could have a few days in the center of Western civilization that form memories of a lifetime. It's impossible to explore all Rome has to offer in just a few days. Truly exploring historic Rome would take weeks. However, even with limited time and the delicious attractions of Pride in Rome, or during a short visit at any other time of the year, one shouldn't miss the chance to see the ancient city's top historic attractions. Given a day or two (or three) free to see the sites, you can at least hit the most important ones.

Here are the top five fascinating historic and cultural things to visit, in no particular order. The Colosseum "Do you like gladiator movies?" comedy icon Leslie Nielsen quipped to a young boy in the classic movie Airplane. Then there was the Russell Crowe movie and countless others portraying one of the best known historic sites in Western civilization. Men in skirts fighting it out to the death in front of a cheering audience is about as homoerotic as it gets. If you're unfamiliar think Thunderdome without the bonus of Tina Turner doing playing emcee. Still, pretty butch. When you visit The Colosseum, history comes alive. It's easy to envision the gladiators, the blood-thirsty crowd and one Caesar or another surveying the whole show. It's more palatable than a Dolphins-Jets game. Few sites are as ingrained in the collective consciousness of Euro-centric cultures as is this one. The Pantheon The Pantheon was built as a temple to Rome's pagan gods and is Ancient Rome's best preserved building. It might not have worked out so well for the pagans, but it is still used for its religious purposes and is free to visit. It has a majesty of sorts, even for the irreligious and is a must-see in Rome. Don't waste your money on a tour of this incredible site. Wire Magazine sat down with Hialeah Pride Co-founder DJ Citizen Jane, headliner Julio Iglesias, Jr. and Hialeah Police Department's Officer Erik Martin to preview the upcoming festivities. Check out what they had to say!
DJ CITIZEN JANE Rafa Carvajal: Why did you decide to create a Pride celebration in Hialeah? Citizen Jane: I grew up in Hialeah and when I came out of the closet, I had nowhere to go and be myself because this has always been a very conservative city. Therefore, I had to move and start my life in a new city that would be more accepting. I told myself that one day I would come back to Hialeah and make a difference. A couple of years ago, I approached Karen Larrea about a dream I had for a while, which was to have a Pride in Hialeah. Now being an Internationally known DJ and leader in the community, I was able to go back to the city that I grew up in and make a difference by creating a safe space for the LGBTQ community to celebrate freely, and also take home with them a piece of what this festival has to offer. Karen was fully on board with me to do something to move the community forward. Especially when she found out that the City of Hialeah is the fourth most conservative city in the nation.

RC: What can attendees expect at this year's Hialeah Pride? CJ: A full day extravaganza celebrating diversity and community with live entertainment, DJs, a marketplace, food trucks with delicious delights from all over the world, photo ops throughout the park, a family zone, exclusive VIP Areas both indoor and outdoor, Miami Heat's "Heat Nation" interactive zone, a game zone, health zone, lots of dancing and overall fun. RC: Who are the headliners at Hialeah Pride 2019? CJ: This year's headliners are Julio Iglesias, Jr. and me. Legendary Grammy Award-winning Producer Desmond Child is our 2019 Padrino. We are excited to have back our inaugural year Padrino Enrique Santos and Madrina Roxanne Vargas. Other international and local performers will also be on the Hialeah Pride mainstage. RC: What does it take to successfully have an event of this magnitude? CJ: A lot of detailed organization and a huge love for our community. People do not realize the amount of work that goes into an event this large. It truly is a labor of love as we want to achieve equality for every letter that makes up our community. RC: How do you raise the funds to put together Hialeah Pride? CJ: In our inaugural year, we contributed from our personal funds to make this event happen and we were also blessed to have our presenting sponsor, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, believe in us from the minute we spoke to them about Hialeah Pride and come on board. We also had smaller sponsors that made this festival come to life. For year two, AIDS Healthcare Foundation came back as our presenting sponsor, and we have had large companies such as Tito's, Walmart, and the Miami Heat, along with several more, want to be a part of this amazing Pride.

It's saying to the world, "This is who I am, and I'm proud of it." Nobody should ever make you feel ashamed of who you are or what you stand for. RC: What do you think sets Hialeah Pride apart from other gay Pride celebrations in South Florida? CJ: Let's begin by saying that we are a Pride founded by two women which is a rarity. Hialeah Pride is held in the Nation's fourth most conservative city, that alone is mind-blowing as we are only 20 minutes West of Miami. We are a true community with Pride, a Pride where we don't separate any in our community in separate spaces, every representation in our LGBTQ community has their shining moment on the main stage and we all are equal, including local talent. We are a Pride with a purpose more than a party, we want to break barriers for our community and move equality for all. We want you to come to dance and have a great time but also go home with information. Whether it is from our health zone, connecting with a community organization you may have not known about, or learn about community events. There is so much happening in our dierent festival zones. RC: What are you looking forward to the most about this year's Hialeah Pride? CJ: Wow, that's pretty hard as we put so much thought and hard work into each area of Hialeah Pride. We just really felt such a sense of unity in our community and received that compliment over and over from so many people who attended. We had many people attend as far away as Orlando and Tampa, and to know the hard work our committee puts into making Hialeah Pride happen is just overwhelming. But, if we have to choose one thing, it would be when we stand once again on the main stage together as a family and see our community family dancing and just living their true life is amazing. Oh... can we add that we can't wait to see sexy heartthrob Julio Iglesias, Jr. perform? RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? Rafa Carvajal: What are you looking forward to the most about performing at this year's Hialeah Pride? Julio Iglesias, Jr.: I am very much looking forward to performing to a great group of fans who just want to come out and enjoy my music and have a good time.

RC: How do you feel about being this year's Hialeah Pride 2019 headliner? JIJ: It's an honor for me to perform as the headliner for Hialeah Pride 2019. I love performing and it gives me great pleasure to perform for those who enjoy my music.
RC: What do you enjoy the most about being a singer? JIJ: What I enjoy most as a singer is making my fans feel happy for that moment in time when I am on stage. I love my music and nothing feels better than sharing my music with my fans.
RC: Why do you think it is so important to support the LGBTQ community? JIJ: I have many friends in the LGBTQ community who are some of the nicest people in the world. It's hard to hear about the many stories that have plagued their lives from childhood to adulthood. It frustrates me because this is nothing more than ignorance. Everyone is equal and it should be no dierent for those in the LGBTQ community. I will stand up for this community anytime.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? JIJ: I would like to say thank you to your readers for taking the time to read my interview. Rafa Carvajal: Tell us about your involvement with Hialeah Pride 2019 and the LGBTQ community. Erik Martin: I am a board committee member for Hialeah Pride. I'm a proud member of the LGBTQ community and I have been involved with other organizations for equality and the advancement of LGBTQ rights in our community. RC: Why do you think it is so important for the Hialeah Police Department to show their support for the LGBTQ community? EM: Our hope is to show support and understanding so the community knows the Hialeah Police Department is here for each and every one of them. We welcome each member's input and respect them as members of our community. Showing our support will only strengthen our community as a whole with all members of our community.
RC: Tell our readers why they should attend and celebrate Hialeah Pride 2019. EM: Come out and have a great time. Hialeah Pride is a place where you can come as you are and be in an atmosphere of love, equality, and a judgment-free zone. Celebrate yourself, your community, and honor your life.
RC: What are you looking forward to the most about this year's Hialeah Pride? EM: I'm looking forward to being involved wholeheartedly and supporting an event where members of the LGBTQ community and allies can come together and celebrate Pride. We will be working long hours to set up and make sure everything goes great. RC: How do you think the Hialeah Police Department should protect LGBTQ citizens from potential hate crimes and violence based on their sexual orientation? EM: Based on my experience and journey, the LGBTQ Community is an essential part of our community, and as such we each deserve equal protection under the law. No questions about it.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? EM: Let's all be together and enjoy this amazing event. Let's be a little more loving with each other, a little bit more accepting of our dierences. After all, it's our differences that make us such a great community and one of a kind individuals on this earth. Let's work together to make this world a little bit better than we found it. Make our community a better and safer place for all members regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, socioeconomic status, etc. As I learned many years ago from dear and wise friends, love is the message. Live and love your life, love the life you live. We only get one chance to live this life. There are no do-overs or reset button. LIVING, LOVING LIPIDS ho doesn't enjoy a good lipid? Before you go running off to research the science angle, let's make it easy and stick to cooking terms. Think oils. Today there are dozens of different types of oils/ fats used in cooking in various ways (and there seem to be more every day). These aren't your grandparents' days, so options are a lot more varied than cooking with vegetable oil, Crisco, butter or olive oil, back when the latter was considered by many to be exotic. The evolution of food culture and a better understanding of nutrition have led to a surge in oil varieties. In the case of nutrition, which is not the focus today, just keep in mind that all oils have roughly the same calorie count but both the ratio of good fat to bad fat and other health effects (good and bad) vary from oil to oil. The truth is not all of the science is consistent when it comes to food products, and it changes regularly. On any given day, do you know if eggs are good for you, or if dairy is? It's complicated and you should do a little research before starting to use a new oil on a regular basis.

Coconut oil has been a recent darling for its health properties, but not everyone agrees. It works nicely in moderate heat cooking. Olive oil and pumpkin seed oil add flavor in low-heat cooking like a sautée. Remember not to go too high-temp, as they have lower smoking points than highheat oils. Also, don't go to your expensive extra virgin olive oil for cooking – save the top-shelf stuff for finishing dishes and salad dressings. Some oils are versatile, being satisfying with or without being cooked, such as extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil (great in salad dressing) and sesame oil as a finisher, among others.

One thing most food scientists smarter than me seem to agree on is that vegetable oil is a no-no. Other high-heat oils are just as easy to fry with but without the nutritional negatives of vegetable oil. While I know some people who stand by-products like Crisco, particularly for baking, I've never been able to bring myself to use it. Probably childhood trauma. But enough with the health talk. The things to remember with oils are what you are using them for: high, medium or low heat; for heating, finishing or adding to cold dishes; and whether you want the added flavor different ones to apply. I've only touched on a few of the many oils out there. Try some, mix them up, see how you like the taste they impart – or don't impart – and do a little research on what each brings to the table. Personally, I generally keep two types of extra virgin olive oil on hand (one for heated application, and a top shelf one for a finishing oil and salad dressings), canola oil, peanut oil, and sesame oil. I will pick up others for specific dishes or just on a whim, such as ghee for Indian cooking or avocado oil for something different than the olive oil/lemon juice I've applied to my salads for the past 20 years. These oils work for me because of the styles of cooking I do, largely Mediterranean and Asian. HERE'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE EASY STIR-FRY RECIPES: • 1 large boneless chicken breast, patted dry and cut into bite-size cubes • Approximately a cup of sliced bell pepper, snap peas, moderate-thin sliced onion, and half a cup slivered carrots (I quarter those "baby carrots" lengthwise to make bright orange matchsticks) • Two cloves fresh minced garlic (or more if you like, which I often do) and at least a solid teaspoon of fresh minced ginger root • (Optional) fresh Thai basil or cilantro
HERE'S HOW EASY IS TO PUT TOGETHER: • Heat 2 tablespoons high heat oil (I use a mix of canola and peanut oil for this) on high in a wok and toss in cubed chicken. Stir constantly and maintain the high heat until you get color on all sides of the chicken. Remove chicken from oil and set it aside on a paper towel. • Add the tougher vegetables to the wok, cook for a minute and add the rest of the vegetables in order of their hardness. My order is bell pepper and carrot, then onions and ginger, then snap peas and garlic. Cook for a minute or so until you get the consistency you prefer. I tend to like things still fairly crisp and I loathe soft carrots! • Then add your chicken back in, toss in your stir fry sauce and cook another minute or so to bring it all together. If you're using fresh herbs, add those as you remove from the heat. • Serve with rice (that will be a whole other column someday) while it's still hot. I don't generally let stir fry sit and, to me, it rarely works as leftovers, although I know many people who don't mind it the next day.

Yes, they are on the market, but try this one: ¾ cup broth, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, a splash of fish sauce, Other than the chopping and slicing, this is a quick and pretty easy stir fry – and one 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar, one table- of my weekday go-to's. It also demonstrates the use of high-heat oils with the peanut oil spoon sugar or equivalent. Simple whisk adding just a touch of flavor that canola on its own does not. together.
