The transaction is the fourth investment made by Maven’s UK Regional Buyout Fund, which recently announced its final close, having raised £100 million from a diverse range of investors, including Scottish Enterprise – Scotland’s national economic development agency, family offices, high net-worth syndicates, pension funds, fund of funds and asset managers.

Maven Capital Partners Leads MBO Of CMS Window Systems Maven Capital Partners (“Maven”), one of the UK’s most active private equity houses, has led the management buyout (“MBO”) of CMS Window Systems (“CMS” or “the Company”), a leading end-to-end provider of premium window and door solutions, and one of Scotland’s fastest growing manufacturing businesses. The transaction includes the largest equity cheque written by Maven as well as debt funding from Clydesdale Bank led by its Corporate and Structured Finance team, and additional equity from the Scottish Investment Bank. Exiting investors include mid-market private equity firm, LDC. CMS specialises in designing, manufacturing and installing energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly products, including PVCu and aluminium, windows, doors and curtain walling systems. Established in 2006, CMS operates from its 15-acre, state-of-the-art, headquarters in North Lanarkshire with an additional door manufacturing facility in Fife. The Company undertakes contracts for some of the largest housing investment programmes and 8 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

commercial build projects in the UK and has long-standing relationships with many of Scotland’s local authorities to refurbish their social housing stock, and has recently extended its reach to local authorities in the North of England. CMS commands a strong market position, with the business possessing the capabilities and experience to undertake large and complex projects across all commercial, social, and private housing markets. Its capability to complete client projects across several market channels has led to a record year for CMS. New commercial contracts, such as the flagship Atlantic Square development in Glasgow, and strong recurring revenues from long-standing customer relationships, have contributed to turnover increasing to over £36 million. Maven has taken a majority equity investment in the company which will enable CMS to further pursue its social housing strategy, targeting the larger addressable market in England, as well as capitalising on the increased demand for energy-efficient windows and doors in new-build housing.

Andrew Craig, Partner at Maven, commented: “CMS is one of the leading manufacturers and installers for window and door solutions in the UK, and we are delighted to add this ambitious business to our growing portfolio. The transaction demonstrates our aim to support management buyouts in some of the most impressive and entrepreneurial businesses in the lower-mid market. CMS has experienced year on year growth and is managed by an impressive management team with significant experience of the sector. The company has also invested heavily in its two manufacturing facilities ensuring that there is sufficient spare capacity to fulfil its undoubted growth potential.” David Ritchie, CEO of CMS Window Systems, added: “Partnering with Maven marks the beginning of an exciting new era for CMS and its employees, and will enable, us to create new jobs as we grow. With our established management team continuing to lead the business, it is very much ‘business as usual’ so customers, supply chain partners and other stakeholders will experience no changes in working with us. We will be announcing more detail about our immediate plans soon, which will support our strategy to develop our share of the market for windows and doors in the new build housing, commercial, social housing and trade sectors. We have an excellent team in place to drive the business forward in partnership with Maven, building on the strengths that our customers value and providing high perfor-

CMS is a business we have followed closely in recent years and we have been impressed by the quality of the management team, the strong customer relationships they have developed and consistent delivery in their chosen markets. We have been delighted to work with CMS and Maven to complete this buyout transaction, and look forward to supporting David and his team in achieving CMS’ future growth and development plans.” Kerry Sharp, Director of the Scottish Investment Bank said: “We’ve worked closely with Maven and CMS Window Systems to create a tailored funding package which provides additional monies to allow the company’s plans for a Management Buy Out to become a reality. Being able to participate through both the Maven UK Regional Buy Out Fund and our Scottish Co-Investment Fund demonstrates the innovative ways that we can provide a variety of funding options across multiple sectors, and we look forward to working with the company over the next few years.” Colin Bennet, Investment Director at LDC in Edinburgh, said: “Innovative, forward-thinking companies like CMS are the reason Scotland’s Central Belt is such an exciting and dynamic place to do business. Over the last three years, the business’ ambition and high-quality, modern offering has translated into strong and sustainable growth, both in Scotland, and across the rest of the UK. It’s been very rewarding to support David and the team and we wish them luck on the next step of their growth journey.”

Prompts Trade Counter Launch

ERC Testing, the Leigh based test house providing testing services to companies within the flat glass, window and door industries, recently welcomed members of the Greater Manchester Police Force and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to the Laboratory, to provide assistance with their Method of Entry Training. Mike Hackett, Laboratory Manager at ERC Testing explains: “Working with door hardware on a daily basis, trying to force and manipulate it in order to put it through testing procedures, gives us indepth knowledge of its strengths and weaknesses. We’ve been using some innovative techniques to challenge the hardware and thought that, with fire safety top of the public agenda at present, we would contact our local fire and police stations in Leigh to offer to share our knowledge on the latest door lock manipulation techniques. This offer was well received and we were pleased to welcome Method of Entry Training Instructors from both Greater Manchester Police Force and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to the Lab, where we went through some ex-

amples of lock manipulation. The feedback we received suggested the information we shared with them was useful. “The fenestration industry’s focus on hardware is mainly to deter the opportunist burglar, which means the time taken to manipulate the lock is critical. This is also true for the Emergency Services which is why we decided to contact them.” Bill Keating, Managing Director of ERC Testing concludes: “We are always trying to think outside of the box to improve industry standards and improve safe practices across the board. It’s a big responsibility to make sure a product is fit for purpose and protects homeowners in the way they think they’ll be protected, but equally, as our industry have made locks better and better, there is also a responsibility to allow the right people to gain access under any circumstances, namely the emergency services. We hope that identifying this opportunity to extend our services to our local emergency services it will prove to be of benefit to our local community.” www.erc-testing.com

The Kardashians, Judge Judy And Fireman Sam: FENSA Enlists

A Little Help For Its Members

FENSA has announced further details of the extensive ‘All the Proof You Need’ TV campaign it launched in early March. The campaign is designed to make homeowners aware of the importance of obtaining a FENSA certificate to ensure their windows and doors are compliant as well as emphasising the importance of appointing a FENSA Approved installer to fit them. The advertisement, which will run until the end of 2019, will be shown across the UK on a range of

carefully targeted TV channels that will provide more than 190 million ‘impacts’, the figure that refers to the number of unique viewings of the advertisement. Now FENSA has announced the programmes that its ground-breaking advertisements will be shown against, with a schedule that includes Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Judge Judy and Fireman Sam. Others include Hairy Bikers Best of British, Escape to the Country and The Great British Bake Off in addition to dozens

of other popular special interest programmes. The wide ranging campaign, the first of its kind to hit the UK home improvement market, is designed to reach home improvers at every level and with a diverse range of viewing habits across a TV schedule that runs throughout the day and evening, seven days a week. Screening times vary, again to provide maximum coverage and impact. FENSA Managing Director Anda Gregory, says the campaign is already achieving its goals: ‘Early indications are that the TV campaign is proving to be very effective. Existing members are reporting more homeowners asking for their FENSA certificates, and membership applications from installers has also increased, both key objectives. This is very promising so early on.’ Trade advertising and public relations, a significant presence at the FIT Show, regional roadshows, social media and other industry presentations are reinforcing the TV campaign. ‘FENSA is now far more than a self-certification scheme,’ added Anda. www.fensa.org.uk

Arrival Of 170 Tonne

Machine Signals Fresh Investment In Derbyshire

The new business, Garnalex, already employs 5 full time directors, all of whom are experienced within the industry, to lay the foundations and controls for this exciting new business venture. There is planned further recruitment over the summer as the equipment approaches completion, with employees expected to reach 35 by the end of the year.

A state-of-the-art aluminium extrusion press ordered by Garner Aluminium Extrusions, trading as Garnalex, has been making its way down the M1 motorway with a police escort. The route for the specialised heavy haulage took the machinery via Ripley to its new temporary home at The Firs Works in Heage, travelling past the historic Heage Windmill. The photograph shows the striking contrast of old and new technology side by side, in an area already rich with innovation in manufacturing. The total investment in Garnalex is £9m to date, including the delivery of the aluminium press, and is planned to increase further over the summer. The main body of the machine itself has a weight of 170 tons, and the machine is so large it has to be assembled on site by 20 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

technicians from the manufacturer’s facility in Germany. Trading at Garnalex is due to commence when the equipment is commissioned during August. Garnalex has been formed by Roger Hartshorn, who is well known in the industry, having been involved with HL Plastics for over 42 years. He was one of the founders of Eurocell PLC, more recently going on to develop the successful Liniar window system and associated product ranges with his team. Mr Hartshorn retains excellent links with both companies and intends to further develop this relationship by supplying aluminium extrusions to them, amongst others. Remarkably, the companies he has started now employ over 2,000 people in Amber Valley area.

Mr Hartshorn says, “Garnalex is a really exciting new business and this initial investment is just the start of the journey. The aluminium extrusion service will initially supply local companies and then eventually branch out into our own range of products. In 2018 the UK consumed 190,000 tons of aluminium extrusions, but only 110,000 tons of this was produced in the UK. The huge benefit we will have is speed of response to supply customers from a UK source from the highest quality with latest technology SMS low energy plant, into an industry and a customer base that we have supplied for over 30 years. “In line with my continued philosophy, we have exciting plans for further investment in premises, equipment and plant to further develop the new business. “I’m excited with the prospects of Garnalex. The Amber Valley region in particular is already a successful location for innovation and development in manufacturing and we’ve been lucky enough to attract some of the best people in the area to join the team.”

Mackenzie Glass Sees 30% Increase In Demand For Cut-To-Size Laminate

Mackenzie Glass’ has reported a 30% jump in demand for cut to size laminate.

Reporting the year-on-year growth in laminate sales, Mark Herbert, Joint Managing Director, Mackenzie Glass, said demand has been driven by new regulatory requirements under PAS24, as well as the increased specification of larger IGUs.

Mackenzie Glass moved to meet this increase in demand in the summer with the installation of a second laminate cutting table. Its’ new Bottero 515LAMe laminated glass cutting table, delivered in July with an accompanying loading table, gives Mackenzie Glass the capacity to handle 4.5m X 3.2m laminated sheets.

He said: “Taking standard domestic installations first, the requirements introduced under Part Q and through PAS24 in new build have increased demand for laminate in IGU manufacture.

With 90 second heat-up times, compared to the 8-minute heatup of its pre-existing table, it also gives the independent glass merchant far greater flexibility in the supply of cut-to-size laminates.

“Increased end user awareness of SBD has done more or less the same in the replacement market. The net effect has been a very significant jump in demand for laminate product over the last year.”

Running across two-shifts 24hours a day, Mark, said that the investment has allowed Mackenzie Glass to cut delivery times to as little as three-days with ambitions to reduce turnaround times to 48hrs or less.

22 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

“The new Boterro has delivered a step-change in our capacity. It heats 13.5mm laminate glass to splitting temperature in just 90 seconds, compared to 8-minutes on our pre-existing table. It’s also allowed us to bring in more precision to the process, reducing wastage and increasing our capacity to handle larger sheets.” Mackenzie Glass has also recently added 4.5m X 3.2 10.8mm laminate stock sheets to its product range to support its customers in meeting increasing demand from the commercial sector. Mackenzie Glass was formed at the end of last year as standalone business and vehicle for the acquisition of Pilkington Bristol from NSG. Supplying more than one million square metres of flat glass a year with a turnover in excess of £5m, the deal saw assets and employees transferred, with Mackenzie Glass also assuming new status as the first Pilkington Regional Partner. www.mackenzieglass.co.uk

Leads2Trade’s Personal Approach To Lead

Quality Is Helping Customers To Cash In Since launching in 2006, lead generation company Leads2Trade has always placed its emphasis not just on lead volume but, more importantly, lead quality. The Stockport-based business generates 5-6,000 leads per week for companies operating in the home improvement market. These leads are then double qualified by Leads2trade’s in-house call centre. It’s a tried and trusted method that has helped Leads2Trade become one the biggest volume suppliers of leads for the fenestration industry. And, according to Andy Royle, co-founder and Director at Leads2trade, it’s one of the reasons why the company is staying ahead of competitors who are turning their back on the personal approach in favour of technology. “It’s always a challenge in any business to get the balance right of their sales lead generation activities both in-house and outsourced to third party’s like ourselves,” commented Andy. “Recently we have noticed a shift change by a number of our competitors where they have decided to close down their call centre approach and let technology ‘qualify’ their leads by use of digital automation. “They are using things such as SMS verification, telephone validation software, BOT driven on page chat and loaded algorithms to decide whether a lead is genuine or not. “While this obviously allows online lead generation companies to generate increased volumes, we are finding that this comes at a cost of ‘quality’ which our 26 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

own sales team are really capitalising on. “Because we have our own in-house customer service operators that personally speak to and qualify all our leads, it means that quality is guaranteed to the customer. “We don’t send text messages or use automated dialling with computer algorithm generated questions to mimic a leads authenticity.” To provide customers with unrivalled support, Leads2Trade also offer a dedicated appointment booking service and hot key telephone sales lead service for an immediate connection to a customer. “The hot key telephone sales lead service dedicated appointment booking service really are the pinnacle of the premium service we offer that is unrivalled by our competitors,” said Andy. “Each installer also benefits from a dedicated account manager whose job is to assist, support them and help them achieve an acceptable lead to appointment percentage and ultimately an acceptable cost of sale from buying our leads.” Leads2Trade recently completed the acquisition of glazing industry sales-lead aggregator CloudGlaze to provide even better service for customers. Andy added: “Since we formed Leads2Trade back in 2006 the digital lead generation market has changed enormously. However, there are some things that are constant and lead quality is at the top of that list.” leads2trade.co.uk

VBH And SWC: Working Together For Reliable Service

Frame Fast Invests In Further Automation

For Composite Doors Production

Sheffield Window Centre (SWC) manufactures high quality PVC-U windows, doors and conservatory products. It’s a family company, based in Sheffield, trading since 1975, and it has a long-standing relationship with VBH (GB), suppliers of hardware and ancillaries to the trade. SWC has built its reputation on delivering a reliable and trustworthy service, backed up with honest advice and first class customer service. As the MD, Ian Hunter says: “We have the latest machinery, hardware and software to produce the best products, but we still only sell in the old-fashioned way – no hassle, no pressure, just great value for money.” Reliability is a by-word at SWC. Many of its employees have been there for 15+ years, providing a consistent level of service. Over the years, VBH has provided products and support to help SWC maintain its reliable reputation. As well as a great variety of first-class products with dependable deliveries from stock, VBH has helped with technical support for specification and testing. SWC uses a variety of greenteQ door and window hardware, as well as third-party prod-

ucts supplied by VBH. Adrian Gale, VBH’s Regional Sales Manager, comments: “Our VBH24 webshop and product configurator make it easy for SWC to order the correct hardware for even the most complex installation. But in addition we are always happy to help with technical advice – particularly when products, or the regulations governing them, change. We have recently helped them with preparation for PAS24 testing for their windows and doors, by sharing our knowledge of tried and tested components and profiles – many of which SWC was already using – to ensure their testing went smoothly.” Adrian’s contribution is recognised by Ian Hunter: “Adrian’s knowledge and experience mean that he has valuable insights into the industry – which he’s happy to pass on to us. This has helped with our growth over the years. We know we can rely on VBH for dependable products and support, which all goes to help us provide the high level of service we offer our customers.” www.vbhgb.com

New 3D BIM Service Launched By ISO Chemie

Foam tape sealing company ISO CHEMIE has extended the scope of its specialist services with the launch of new 3D BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology.

The move will enable architects and designers to integrate high quality scaled digital information around window and door sealing solutions as part of their 3D visualisations and client presentations. BIM is playing an increasingly significant role in the design and delivery of large and complex fenestration projects and installations in the UK. It can also be used in CAD software such as ‘Autodesk Revit, while an electronic CAD product catalogue will be available as a supplement to this as more products are at the planning stage. The new service will facilitate the planning, delivery and management of window and door design and installations using a common data model for all participants. All the relevant building data is digitally recorded, combined and interlinked in

a model. Andy Swift, ISO CHEMIE’s UK national sales manager, said the scope of 3D BIM is expected to expand as the service gains traction among existing and new customers. He added: “It’s important that clear information is made available to those involved in the fenestration design, specification and supply sectors. Linking this to the 3D visualisation of plans and drawings delivers new levels of accuracy. “If a window needs replacing in the future, it will be clearly identifiable which products were originally used and the affected component connections. Renovation and refurbishment projects can therefore be planned more efficiently and carried out under controlled conditions.” www.iso-chemie.eu/en-GB/home

Deceuninck Congratulates

Connaught On 25 Years Deceuninck says it is pleased to congratulate Bournemouth-based Connaught Windows on its 25 year anniversary. Connaught is a family business which has gone from strength to strength since it started as a trade fabricator in 1994. Connaught’s relationship with Deceuninck – exclusive systems supplier since 2006 – has been, according to Business Manager Natalie Witczak: “More like a partnership than supplier/ customer”. Both companies agree the success of the relationship is due largely to shared values, based on customer care. Natalie comments: “We feel valued by Deceuninck, which has led to a great rapport over the years. We understand the value of such relationships, as some of our customers have been with us since we started. Deceuninck offers us great continuity and the relationship continues to grow.” 30 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

Both companies share their commitment to helping customers. Neither competes with the people they sell to. Connaught has no installation teams and Deceuninck only sells to fabricators. If either company receives a direct enquiry it’s passed on to the customer – and there is no conflict of interest. Customers know where they stand. Commenting on Deceuninck’s products Natalie continued: “They offer a great choice of products – a big benefit. We mostly sell traditional chamfered, vertical sliders, Invisifold and Slider24 patio sliders. Deceuninck’s Heritage Flush Window is selling well and we will soon start fabricating the Heritage Flush Door to compete the heritage family. Colour is also growing – it’s up to 30% and increasing all the time. Our most popular foils are Anthracite Grey, Chartwell Green and Grey 004.”

Benefits pass both ways. Chris Jones, Sales Director at Deceuninck, regularly consults Robbie Witczak on product development. “We want to make sure our products are right for the fabricator, installer and end-user”, says Chris. “We know we can rely on Robbie to give us straightforward feedback. As Rob McGlennon and I are both known for being straight with customers & prospects, we appreciate the reliable and honest opinions we get from Connaught”. Connaught is celebrating the anniversary with a new website, new signage and a redesigned uniform to mark the occasion – and there will be an event organised to thank the staff who help make the company a success. MD Rob McGlennon sums it up: “Deceuninck enjoys a great relationship with Connaught, based on respect and trust. I’m delighted to congratulate them on 25 years of successful trading and wish them many more years of profitable business.” www.deceuninck.com/uk/ www.connaughtwindows.co.uk

seal, and that they follow the IGU manufacturer’s recommendations. No matter which solution is preferred, at Slenderline Glass all of the relevant glazing materials can be purchased alongside supply-only IGU orders.

As someone with over 30 years of experience manufacturing sealed units, I can’t think of another time where the heritage sector has been so firmly in the industry spotlight. Whether it’s best practice, compliance or consolidation, there are a multitude of issues which have ultimately got the industry talking.

It is also vitally important that tradespeople follow the recommended painting times as specified in the glazing methods, to avoid any possible flaking or degradation. Depending on the sealant used, there are different timescales for painting after glazing has been completed. Whilst extenuating circumstances such as temperature and humidity can also extend cure times, even accepted paint types can prolong drying times and must be taken into account. All of this information is available to customers on request.

I fear though, we could be facing another potential issue, with a number of reported unit failures recently due to glazing methods not being followed. In this case, it involves compatibility issues between the paint used and the glazing method chosen, as well as painting heritage units before the putty compound has cured effectively. Either way, this is undoubtedly one of the biggest causes of unit failure, yet it is so easily avoidable.

Ultimately, it’s down to our joinery partners to inform their customers of the importance of following these guidelines to ensure the entire supply chain works harmoniously. It also helps to avoid any call-backs, unhappy customers and extended lead times. Many of our customers are now taking advantage of our factory glazing option which gives them peace of mind that our Slenderline units are fitted correctly, no matter which glazing method is specified.

In an effort to encourage best practice and to support our customers, we have spoken at length with our supply partner Hodgson Sealants to determine the best ways to glaze our Slenderline units when different paint types are being used. For those using water-based paint, Hodgson specifies their renowned Heritage Putty for both a timber bead and a putty fronting finish.

We’ve been manufacturing sealed units of all kinds since the 1980s, with the success of our heritage operation necessitating the creation of Slenderline Glass as a standalone business in 2012. We take great pride in delivering something truly unique that combines authentic heritage aesthetics with modern-day thermal performance. With the help of our supply partners along with joiners, builders and installers, we want to make sure that continues.

Are you glazing your heritage units correctly?

For those tradespeople using oil-based alternatives, the team at Hodgson suggests using their popular Multi-Purpose Putty for a putty front fillet, while the Heritage Putty provides the bedding compound for the unit. In every scenario, Hodgson advises tradespeople to ensure all compounds are compatible with the sealant used in the construction of the IGU edge

Or is it something that you see affecting the lives of those around you, and would clearly like to understand it better, and be more proactive in helping deal with it positively?

Absenteeism – it’s easy to see when someone needs time off for a broken leg, or to recover from a heart attack, or even fight cancer. Time off for a mental health issue is less obvious, and much more difficult to truly understand (until now…. More of that later). Presenteeism – what this often means is that for those undergoing mental distress, the difficulty in communicating their situation is fraught with misunderstandings, to the point that they often feel that they should not take that time out. Employees show up physically, but their performance however is severely compromised – commonly known as Presenteeism. Stigma – there is much written about mental health stigma in the workplace. The definition of stigma is: ‘a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, or quality or person.’ A recent poll found that 40% of Scots fear revealing a mental health problem at work would jeopardise their career. 65% of managers fear that taking time off due to physical illness or injury is treated more seriously than taking time off to improve mental health (Mental Health Foundation survey October 2017). So why are businesses so wary of

meeting this issue head on? It is clear that a mentally healthy workforce will have a significant impact on your business. Ignorance – Up until now, our mental health has been wrapped up in the mysterious cloak of medicalised language, and there has been a serious lack of effective solutions to counteract the fallout from this. For example, the general assumption for the cause of depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain. This is completely false. (If you would like to know more about this then I suggest you have a listen to my Mental Health Revolution podcast, which is freely available on both iTunes and Stitcher.) Lack of Solutions – I should add a caveat here of EFFECTIVE solutions. There are many programmes out there promoting workplace wellbeing, but they tend to be box-ticking, lip-service paying check lists to help people feel temporarily better, but don’t dig down deep enough. The Thrive Programme has been building towards a real revolution - a revolution in which everything we thought we knew about mental health is being challenged and changed. The training is moving away from the medical model of mental health (waiting until someone is sick then trying to fix them) towards a health model (giving people the skills and resources to manage their own mental wellbeing). This is the core purpose of our training. Our unique and revolutionary Thrive in Business programme delivers powerful and thought provoking individual and group programmes which optimise performance and wellbeing. Tailored for small, local organisations through to global institutions, our programme enables people to thrive both personally and profes38 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

sionally. We teach individuals to develop a greater sense of power and control over their roles both in work and life as a whole. As they progress through the programme, they start to flourish and grow, boosting performance in a measurable and sustainable way. Thrive in Business teaches everyone excellence in psychological intelligence and self-insight, resolving existing issues, and future-proofing against potential emotional and mental health discord. Thrive in Business creates, develops and clarifies the way your team cognitively processes its working practices for a totally harmonious approach – bringing out the very best individual traits for peak performance both individually, and in your teams. As a result, your business: • develops a workforc e that has the emotional intelligence, knowledge and resources to react to any situation, with true grit and power. • addresses existing mental health issues with knowledge and resources which are incredibly empowering, long lasting, and all pervasive. • Gives your workforce unfathomable depths of psychological power and strength, to help them overcome the most difficult of circumstances, both personal and professional. So we are talking about building foundations – foundations that will ensure you, your workforce, and your business as a whole will be able to stand firm no matter what it goes through. So if we look at the specific areas your business will improve on: Better relationships and improved culture – promoting positive relationships and cooperative

attitudes within organisations and departments. Reduced absenteeism and an elimination of presenteeism. Increased productivity – your workforce will be more engaged and ‘thriving’. Staff retention – with increased cooperation between employees, and a much more engaged and productive workforce, your staff will feel more appreciated, and proud of their roles in the organisation. Change Management – your workforce will develop better coping strategies in the face of changes outside of their own control and environment. I shall be giving a seminar at this year’s FITshow on Wednesay 22nd May, and I hope that I will see many of you there. In the meantime, have a go at this simple online assessment tool. A new stainless-steel casement hinge has been designed for the Invisifold system, helping to bring the ‘outside in’. These bring the total number of finishes across the greenteQ Suite to 12. A full break down of suited products and their relevant finishes can be found

The Coastline stainless-steel range, designed to withstand harsh weather and corrosion with a 25-year guarantee will also be on display. The modular system features a highly innovative click-and-fix stainless steel finishing option, which is supplied as an add-on to the standard anodised finish, giving installers the flexibility to upsell, without tying-up capital in additional stock holding. How to provide the right type of glass to add value and meet the changing needs of your customers will be discussed at a seminar by Saint-Gobain Glass at the FIT Show in May, where the glass manufacturer will also be exhibiting on stand B16 within the Visit Glass arena. Kirsty Pamment, Market Manager – Residential, at SaintGobain Glass says: “The FIT Show, and in particular the Visit Glass exhibition, is the ideal place for us to talk to fabricators and installers about how we can help them to start having different conversations with their customers about choosing the right type of glass. It’s the glass in doors and win46 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

dows that can help to deliver real comfort benefits such as enhanced security, reduced overheating, heat retention, noise reduction and furniture fade protection, but it’s important that the right type of glass is specified for the right situation in order to achieve these benefits for the homeowner. The daily seminar is designed to educate fabricators and installers about the properties of glass and how to select the most appropriate type of glass to suit their customers’ needs. “When it comes to buying windows, it is quite unusual for customers to ask about the choice of glass available, other than to ask for energy efficient or A rated windows. But there

is a huge opportunity for fabricators and installers to differentiate their business and add value by offering more choice to consumers who are very often willing to pay for high-performance windows and doors that help to achieve a more comfortable home.” Saint-Gobain Glass will also be sharing the benefits of joining its Planitherm Network, which provides access to a wide range of advice, training, support and marketing materials including sales literature, social media content and videos designed to educate and help fabricators and installers understand and share the comfort benefits of glass. The Planitherm Network is free to join and is already helping fabricators and installers to win more profitable work. Join The Smart Home Revolution At FIT Show 2019

Demos And Previews For

BM Aluminium Customers At FIT

Avantis International is bringing the smart home revolution to FIT Show 2019. The leading hardware manufacturer is launching its latest innovation, Kubu, to the trade show in May. “The Kubu Smart Lock is a clever product that combines the mechanical lock with an electronic sensor, which will help bring the glazing industry into the smart home revolution,” says Mark Bromley, Managing Director of Avantis. In the glazing industry, Avantis is known for its hardware, but outside it’s also a leading manufacturer of electronic indicators and sensors. Mechatronics is the technology that combines electronics and mechanical engineering and this is going to play a big part in the smart home revolution, something Mark will be speaking about at his FIT Show seminar. Kubu locks use mechatronics technology. Kubu is the first smart lock that can be fitted in volume and as standard with every door and window that fabricators and installers sell, says the company.

The lock is fitted to doors and then connected to the Kubu app, where homeowners can check on the lock status of their door. “Homeowners will no longer have the ‘Did I lock the door?’ panic while out and about, as they can simply log into the app and see for themselves. They can also receive real-time notifications, set schedules and check back through door locking history,” continues Mark. “The most beneficial part of the Kubu app is the WIFI perimeter feature. When homeowners leave their property and their phone automatically disconnects from the home WIFI to 4G, Kubu will send them a notification to tell them if they have left their door unlocked. So you’ll never get far away from your home with your door unlocked again! “We’re really looking forward to showing visitors to our FIT Show stand how easy and exciting the new Kubu lock is to use.” Visitors to the FIT Show can find Avantis and join the smart home revolution on Stand 125, right at the centre of the exhibition, in the Smart Zone, and hear more about the future of connected homes from Mark on Tuesday at 12:15.

BM Aluminium will be giving aluminium fabricators a sneak preview at FIT of what they can expect from its LogiKal v12 software when it officially launches later in 2019. Visitors to the show will be able to see some of the new features and shortcuts in LogiKal v12 which BM Aluminium says are set to make it even better. Dean Hodges, BM Aluminium’s Managing Director, said: “As the exclusive UK distributors of LogiKal, we’ve already had chance to review v12 and it’s got lots of new innovations which we know our customers will really appreciate. We’re making our stand more interactive this time around and we’ll have touch screens set up where customers can select videos for themselves and see all of these innovations in action.” The BM Aluminium team will also be giving their own demonstrations at FIT of how they can customise LogiKal to give fabricators their own bespoke software set up. This is currently the fastest growing area of BM Aluminium’s business, with aluminium companies increasingly looking to create tailored installations which take into account all of their third party suppliers. Emmegi (UK) At FIT Oakland Glass Ltd will once again be exhibiting at the FIT Show this year to catch up with friends and colleagues away from the office, and to promote best practice in glass with an exciting new launch.

FIT Show 2019 promises to be Emmegi (UK)’s biggest and best exhibition yet. The machinery specialist has been at every FIT Show so far and its stands have grown in size and scale every single time.

“We do things a little differently at Oakland Glass,” explains Tina Moorhouse, Managing Director of Oakland Glass Ltd. “Although we are a sizeable sealed unit manufacturer producing an average of 14,000 units a week, we continue to offer a personal service to our customers. This means staying in constant contact with them and continuously working together to make sure we’re doing everything we can to make their lives as easy as possible. It also means investing in best practice across the business – in people, machinery, logistics and training – to make sure we have the infrastructure to allow us to build and maintain these long-lasting relationships. We’re putting even more of a focus on people in 2019 with the launch of a new initiative at this year’s FIT Show.

Managing Director Ian Latimer said: “We know the FIT Show is just about the perfect platform for us to demo our products to fabricators who are in the market for new machinery.

Infinity is the newest brand to enter the fenestration software market and will be making quite a splash at FIT with three brand new products promising ‘endless possibilities’ for both fabricators and installers. All are designed specifically for this industry and all are said to deliver advanced technology in a user friendly, cost effective package.

The first product, which is already available to order via the website at: www.infinitylogo.co.uk, is Capture. This is a clever website plugin for retail companies which lets them add a personalised ‘design your own window or door’ function to their sites. Visitors can go online and play around with bespoke product types, designs, sizes, colours and hardware choices and then submit a ‘warm’ enquiry for that product instantly from the

ing managing director said: “As a forward-thinking business, it is our responsibility to make sure we are always on the forefront of innovations in our industry. What is great about the FIT Show is that a lot of manufacturers and component suppliers now schedule their product development cycles around it, so you’re always guaranteed to see some really exciting advances in products and technology.” Morley Glass & Glazing will be appearing on stand H35 of the 2019 FIT Show 2019 when the doors to Birmingham’s NEC open from 21st to 23rd May. www.morleyglass.co.uk website at the click of a button. Showroom, a lead generation app, sits alongside Capture and enables Infinity customers to create their very own virtual showroom packed with their own marketing content – from brochures and videos to installation photos and galleries. It works on and offline so sales teams can use it face to face in the sales process even when they have no access to the internet, and homeowners can download it and access it for themselves. The third product is Register, which Infinity are calling ‘the first commercially available standard platform for manufactured product registration’. Full details of this product will be revealed at the show along with an upcoming CRM system being branded Rapport. A spokesperson for Infinity said: “We’re bringing something fresh and new to the software market but combining that with many years’ experience and expertise. We’re excited about FIT and think our customers will be too.” WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019 51

When you think of student life many clichés may come to mind, such as drinking copious amounts of alcohol, stealing traffic cones and watching Countdown. While these may be unfair to most young academics, clichés have to start somewhere. Another common one is of students smoking a sneaky cigarette out of the window of their accommodation. The British Standard requirement of 100mm opening span for a window with restrictors fitted will be a major inconvenience to a student smoker and the obvious temptation would be to circumnavigate this by unlocking them. Some keyed restrictors can be opened with common flat bladed instruments, such as a knife or screwdriver, often breaking the locking mechanism in the process, resulting in the restrictor failing open. For a landlord of student accommodation, the cost to repair or replace restrictors can soon mount up. The simple solution to this would be to fit a restrictor that is not only strong enough to prevent the window being forced open but is also robust and complex to be unlocked by anything other than the correct key.

Cubelock’s Triple Lock window restrictor has been designed to meet all these requirements and with a high security mechanism that provides extra student protection from attack by non-key holders, it provides the ultimate in safety and security, claims the company. Cubelock keys have been designed with three teeth, making it almost impossible to ‘pick’ the Safe Lock Action restrictor with an alternative instrument. Plus, if the lock is tampered with to the point of breaking, it will fail in the locked position. Landlords have a moral responsibility to ensure that tenants are safe and window restrictors are key to this. Cliché or not, when in a party mood, we all have that air of invincibility and take unnecessary risks. Intoxication can make students vulnerable and put them at risk of an accidental fall. “The importance of window restrictors cannot be underestimated,” says Toby Staff, Managing Director of Newstar Door Controls. “The Triple Lock window restrictor, with Safe Lock Action, helps landlords provide top levels of student friendly safety and security for their tenants.” www.cubelockrestrictor.com

Installers Get ‘The Wow

Factor’ With Designer Triple-Track

Doors From Fenster

Success For PatioMaster

South East

PatioMaster South East was the first PatioMaster dealer to fabricate the new Triple-track sliding door system when it launched last year. The system features two or four sliding sashes that stack neatly behind each other and the PatioMaster South East team has seen demand surge, with doors of up to 4.5 metres wide being ordered.

Simon Spiers, manager of the dealership, sums up the appeal of the system: “The Triple-track patio gives homeowners the on-trend look they want. And when it’s fabricated in grey 7016 – which has almost become the default option – they get the sleek look of aluminium with the practicality of PVC-U sliding doors.” The Triple-track system offers up to 25% more open space than a conventional patio door, delivering the open-house feel homeowners are looking for, even with smaller frame sizes. It offers several key advantages over the bi-fold alternative. There are no panes of glass encroaching on inside or outside space when they’re open. And when they’re closed, they offer a greater uninterrupted view of the outside world because the panels can be up to 1,500mm wide, much wider than on a bi-fold. www.patiomaster.co.uk 56 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

Fenster Fabrications has added Designer Doors from Smart Systems to its comprehensive aluminium range, to help installers offer the wow-factor to their customers. The aluminium entrance door is available with an extensive number of design, style, colour and hardware options so that installers can offer more choices for homeowners. Plus, the range is available in larger door sizes – perfect for discerning homeowners looking for a ‘Grand Designs’ style door. Brian Webb, Business Development Manager at Fenster Fabrications says: “With more and more homeowners choosing to upgrade their homes rather than move, aluminium windows and doors are only growing in popularity. “As well as stunning design options, larger doors are in high-demand and introducing Designer Doors to the Fenster range gives installers the opportunity to offer homeowners exactly what they want, at an affordable price.”

The Designer Door range from Fenster Fabrications have a custom aluminium moulding to create a range of door styles to suit any home. As well as 28 modern designs with design features you would expect from an aluminium door range, there is also a selection of six traditional styles and five cottage style doors for homeowners to choose from. Designer Doors are fully insulated, feature thermal break technology, an integrated weather bar and double-rebated EPDM centre gaskets to offer superb thermal efficiency and keep the elements out. A super-secure 10-point locking system provides the best security and extra peace of mind for homeowners. Brian adds: “We’ve made the Designer Door collection really simple for installers to add to their range. As well as being easy to fit, there is a complete range of sales and marketing support available and doors come with the usual top Fenster service.” www.fensteruk.net

Completely Customised Software From BM Aluminium

Kestrel ‘App-Date’ Boosts

It’s ‘appy’ days for the BDMs at Kestrel with the roofline brand turning to technology to drive customer service. The Kestrel app has been updated so that BDMs can add customer notes when meeting with distributors, saving administration time end ensuring comments are followed up swiftly. “The update to the app will help the team work more efficiently,” Kestrel sales and marketing director Owen Thorogood explained. “As the notes are made at or soon after a meeting, it means that any actions can be dealt with quickly and smoothly, improving our service to distributors.” The Kestrel app was initially rolled out last year, containing all of the brand’s technical and product literature in one place. The app also allows Kestrel Approved Installers to instantly issue homeowners with guarantees for products when they finish a project. “The installer simply fills in the information about a job, plus the customers details and the guarantee is instantly emailed to them,” Owen added. www.kbp.co.uk 58 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

Since it was established six years ago, Farnborough based Complete Aluminium has grown rapidly to become one of the UK’s leading fabricators in AluK. It has built a reputation for quality products, fast lead times and competitive prices and has assembled a highly skilled team who are continually looking to improve the business’ performance still further. One of the areas currently under the spotlight is software, with General Manager Peter Burke now working closely with LogiKal providers BM Aluminium, to create a customised software installation specifically for Complete. Previously, Complete had just been using the standard AluK datasets within LogiKal and adding hand written additions for its two different glass suppliers and all additional products such as third party hardware elements. What BM Aluminium has been able to do is import all of these elements directly into LogiKal for Complete so that product processing can be carried out more quickly and with a guarantee of even greater accuracy. Peter Burke said: “We have recognised that we are not using LogiKal to anything like its full potential yet and we’re now actively looking at

ways in which we can get more benefits from the system. “Perry Mace at BM Aluminium has been excellent in reviewing how we are working at the moment and suggesting ways in which we could use LogiKal to become more efficient, while at the same getting better value from our license. “This includes things like setting up new machine links to our new Emmegi machining centre and incorporating estimating and stock control into our software set up.” Perry added: “Complete Aluminium is typical of lots of fabricators who are simply too busy to carry out this kind of software review for themselves. They start off doing things a certain way using LogiKal and because that works well enough for them, they carry on doing it that way, even in the face of major change within the business. “We love getting these kinds of invitations though because it gives us the chance to demonstrate efficiencies, shortcuts and innovations which we know will bring real value to these businesses. Complete Aluminium has really embraced what we can offer and is already seeing a return on its investment.” More details at: www.bmaluminium.co.uk

CDW Systems Extends SAPA Offering With

The Crown Sliding Folding Door CDW Systems has once again extended their range of high-specification glazing products with the introduction of the Sapa Crown Sliding Folding Door. The aluminium bi-folding door is a highly-versatile, high-performance solution which has been designed to suit both residential and commercial settings. Available in multiple configurations with up to seven panes, the Crown Sliding Folding Door features a unique shootbolt and ‘D’ Handle with continuous hinges. The hardware arrangement means the door utilises hardware specifically designed for

doors – rather than the window furniture used by other bifolds in its class. This means the Sliding Folding Door can be locked with a multi-point locking system and can be used for entry and exit with locking from both sides of the door. The innovative continuous hinge not only adds security, but removes bulky hinges which disrupt the contemporary sightlines. “At CDW, we proudly boast a fantastic partnership with Sapa, as evidenced by us extending our range once again with their Sliding Folding Door,” comments Richard Smith, Technical Director at CDW Systems. “Not only is it a great addition to

the Crown line-up – providing the perfect pairing for the new Crown Flush Window, it also presents a valuable opportunity for installers to offer a highly-desirable sliding door that doesn’t compromise on design to deliver exceptional quality and security.” Much like the Crown Flush Window, the Sliding Folding Door is available in over 300 different premium colours – with dual-colour options also possible. With safety and security at the heart of the Crown Sliding Folding Door, PAS 24 enhanced security options are available following extensive independent testing through the British Standards Institution (BSI). Roger Bisby who tested the Korniche earlier in the year commented: “The first thing I saw was the packaging. Every builder knows the frustration of having items arrive on site with damage. It slows the job down and causes hassle for the manufacturer - and the customer. Often there is a knock-on effect because other trades are unable to get on. With the Korniche Roof Lantern, everything arrived in perfect condition. The next thing is the instruction booklet, which deserves as award on its own. A huge amount of thought and design has gone into this. Every stage is clearly shown with intelligent use of colours to show you the relevant components. Then there is the engineering. It all fits perfectly, and, when I say fits, I mean no gaps or misalignment, and no need for packers, shims or sealant. The whole installation process went like a dream and I said at the time that I couldn’t wait until I had the chance to fit another. It didn’t take long. Without the slightest rush I fitted three on a roof in less than a morning and each one was perfect. More importantly, the customer was delighted”. Made For Trade are delighted to have received this award, one that stands by the very values on which the Korniche was conceived - to deliver to builders and installers a product that makes life on site easier and more cost effective, whilst providing a beautiful, architectural lantern look that is contemporary whilst holding on to traditional timber style fitting any home. FITTED IN MINUTES, GLAZED IN SECONDS, STRONGER than any other lantern on the market with WARMER construction and SLIMMER profiles.

Curtain Walling And Windows Used On The UK’s First Proton

Beam Therapy Centre Architectural glazing systems from UK manufacturer Kawneer feature on a pioneering healthcare buildingwith so many strings to its bow it is difficult to know where to start. The new Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) centre at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester is not only the first to be built in the UK, it is also the first PBT centre in the world to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating. It has also won multiple awards for its design (around the equipment it houses and the patient experience) by 64 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

architects HKS. One of the most complex and precise projects in the history of the NHS, it was delivered on budget and completed ahead of programme by main contractor Interserve who, due to the lack of previous UK PBT examples, travelled more than 20,000 miles around the world to visit 10 such centres and equipment vendors to learn best practice. The Kawneer systems which feature on its five storeys are the

manufacturer’s traditional stickframe AA®100 zone-drained curtain walling, which has 50mm sightlines, and thermally advanced AA°720 top-hung casement windows which feature a BRE Green Guide ‘A’ rated frame. Funded by a £250 million Government investment in conjunction with a second PBT centre at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Manchester site will treat annually up to 750 patients with complex cancers who would previously have had to

ON SITE go abroad for treatment, to typically Switzerland and America. Conventional radiotherapy uses lower-energy photon radiation to destroy cancerous cells but surrounding tissue can also be damaged. In higher-energy proton therapy, the beam stops once it hits the cancerous cells, resulting in less damage to surrounding tissue – particularly important for children. However, the particle accelerator used to deliver the Proton Beams is as energy-hungry as its sounds and requires a significant amount of power to generate the high-energy beam. This demanded a dedicated electricity sub-station which provides the same amount of power needed to run the nearby Trafford Industrial Park. The power generated results in similar levels of waste heat but reclaiming this has made a significant contribution to the BREEAM rating. Modelled using 3D technology and BIM, which is believed to have created theoretical savings of around £1.95 million through early clash detection, the 15,000m2 future-proofed building features three 360° rotating gantry rooms as well as a research room, CT and MRI imaging facilities, patient reception and public space, and planning and support accommodation. Its list of technical features is almost as extraordinary as PBT itself. To contain the radiation, the concrete walls are up to six metres thick. The building incorporates 20,000m3 of concrete and 1,700 tonnes of reinforcement, including steel bars up to 100mm diameter. Through this, 10km of services pipework has been threaded. The concrete itself weighed 48,000 tonnes, the same as two aircraft carriers, with the biggest single pour in a day being 648m3, the same as 105 concrete wagons.

All of this was conducted in a suburban residential area, on a restricted site, and adjoining live hospital buildings at the UK’s busiest cancer hospital creating immunosuppressed patients. HKS said: “From the outset, the design approach was to focus on patient experience. Various measures were applied to create a warm and inviting space, aimed to reduce fear and anxiety. Natural daylighting and landscaping were given high priority, as well as a sense of community amongst the building’s users. The waiting spaces were positioned on external walls and courtyards, and the main waiting area designed as a winter garden, integrating light, vegetation and social interactivity.

“Given the shallow bedrock and water table, the large three-storey concrete structure of the treatment block was placed at grade and is situated in a dominant position near the hospital main entrance. This provided an opportunity to announce the facility’s importance to passers-by, so signage, feature lighting and quality cladding materials were used to showcase the building.” Manchester’s new PBT centre won Best Procure project in the BBH Building Better Healthcare awards, Building of the Year by Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and North West Building Project of the Year in the Constructing Excellence awards delivered with the BRE. by Derwen Cymru (part of the Pobl Group) who provide housing and services specifically for the over 55s, with partial funding from the Welsh government’s social housing grant. It comprises a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and communal facilities. All of the apartments have balconies which overlook the landscaped gardens so slim sightlines on the windows and doors were another important consideration. The main contractors for the entire build were WRW Construction. More details on the curtain walling are at: www.aluk.co.uk

Spectus Vertical Sliders Help Revamp Stunning 1866 Residence

should offer. We also enjoy working with Mercury Glazing because their fabrication expertise and superb attention to detail adds value to our operation.”

54 Spectus white vertical sliding windows with through horn detailing, including 14 arched vertical sliders, have been installed in a prestigious refurbishment project at Foxhill House, Chester.

Installation of the 54 vertical sliders including 14 arches took three weeks, with works carefully planned to minimise disruption to the day-to-day activities of the centre.

Foxhill House is a substantial Italianate house originally built for the Archdeacon of Chester. It is set in 70 acres of Cheshire woodland, which incorporates an arboretum containing several species of rare plants and trees. In the 1960s Foxhill House became a diocesan retreat and conference centre and it will mark 50 years as Chester Diocesan Retreat House in July 2019. The new vertical sliders were chosen to replace ageing timber sliding sash windows, that were single glaze and not as thermally efficient as they could be. The decision was made to upgrade the windows, replacing 68 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

them with architecturally sensitive double-glazed versions. The Spectus Vertical Slider was identified as the window that would deliver the solution required. In this case, the windows were manufactured in white with run through horns to replicate the heritage aesthetics and enhance the building’s appearance. The windows were manufactured by Spectus Vertical Slider specialists Mercury Glazing of Gloucester. They were installed by Droylsden Glass, a family run business that is one of the leading window companies in Manchester. The two companies have worked together on previous projects and Kevin Thackeray, Director at Droylsden Glass said: “The Spectus Vertical Slider is a design-classic which sympathetically captures many, if not all, of the key features of traditional design combined with all the benefits that a modern replacement window

Revd Jonathon Green, Director of Foxhill said: “We are delighted with the finished result, the team who carried out the works were exceptional, courteous and accommodating to the needs of the day to day operation at the centre. I would have no reservations in recommending Droylsden Glass.” The finished result has upgraded the appearance of Foxhill, restoring its stunning heritage looks. It has also improved the thermal efficiency of the building and reduced maintenance requirements too. www.spectus.co.uk www.mercuryglazing.co.uk www.droylsdenglass.co.uk

Tradesmith’s #SayNoToNoise Video Tackles Noise Pollution Tradesmith, the Hailsham based trade fabricator, offers three levels of Bluesky-certified acoustic rated windows from Deceuninck, VEKA Halo & Warmcore to combat the growing problem of noise pollution. With the expansion of Heathrow airport’s third runway, public awareness of noise pollution is rising because it’s going to affect huge numbers of homeowners across a large part of London and the South. Finding a solution to unwanted noise is crucial to convincing the protestors, media and Government to allow it to go ahead. That’s why it’s going to the FIT Show. Reports from the World Health Organisation show that noise pollution can have a severely detrimental impact on health and well-being. Recent studies link excessive noise to cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and poor performance at work and school from interrupted sleep. 70 WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019

Tradesmith says it was the first PVC-U fabricator to achieve Bluesky’s acoustic certification with a range that includes A++, A and B noise rated windows. The windows, which are suitable for domestic and commercial projects, can protect properties in high noise pollution areas – near busy roads, airports, train lines, noisy neighbours, night clubs and schools. In total, Tradesmith supplies 14 different windows that are guaranteed to reduce noise within the home.

Tradesmith has produced a video, with statistics from the World Health Organisation and a powerful message about the hidden problem of noise and its impact on health, to get this story across. Many homeowners suffering from prolonged noise pollution sell their house to escape, but it’s easier and cheaper to stop noise coming in! Noise mainly enters through windows and doors, so to prevent it Tradesmith offers four A++, A,

B certified windows that can be shown to work. “The video communicates how important and effective acoustic windows are,” says Mark Hutchinson, MD Tradesmith. “Years ago, overclaiming and underperforming acoustic solutions made people think double glazed windows weren’t up to the job of preventing noise pollution, but our range of acoustic windows are engineered to block excessive sound. Deceuninck for example tests its windows at Sheffield University, one of the leading UK acoustic centres. And our windows have been independently certified by Bluesky to verify that the manufactured product is in line with the original tested specification. Provided they’re installed correctly, the windows make a dramatic difference to the volume of unwanted sound people are exposed to. Installers can now #SayNoToNoise and sell effective acoustic window solutions to their customers.” Tradesmith is sharing the video on social media and it’s on www.tradesmith.co.uk.

Deceuninck Tops Google Search For Flush Sash And

Heritage Windows

profine Becomes Record

Main Sponsor Of 1.

FSV Mainz 05 Deceuninck now tops organic Google searches for heritage windows. Search engines are dynamic, so absolute rankings change frequently, but Deceuninck ranks top for ‘flush sash windows’ and appears on the first page for people looking for ‘heritage windows’. Deceuninck says sales of its Heritage Flush Window have skyrocketed since its launch, and now account for over 22% of total Deceuninck sales. Part of the Heritage Window Collection, the Flush Window combines beautiful, heritage-style looks with top energy, security and weather performance, and comes in 26 colourways from stock (soon to be 30). In stock means that fabricators can confidently sell colour to their customers because they can make what installers order. Earlier this year Deceuninck launched the Heritage Flush Door to complete the heritage family of windows and doors.

profine Group, with its KÖMMERLING brand have already been a sponsorship partner for five years of Bundesliga football club 1. FSV Mainz 05 and since 2015 as the shirt sponsor of the team. Now they have extended this commitment for another four years until 2023.

Deceuninck MD Rob McGlennon comments: “When people think flush sash, they think Deceuninck and these organic Google search results prove it. Being on the first page of Google helps them and their customers sell, and we don’t need to pay Google to be in the rankings. Homeowners love our award-winning #BestInClass Heritage Flush Window for its stunning looks and performance, and our customers love selling it! Sales are going through the roof and we’re investing in additional tooling and machinery to keep up with growing demand.” heritagewindowcollection.co.uk

The contract had originally run until the end of the season in 2019. But both partners have signed the new contract on 18th March 2019 as part of the visit of the Mainz 05 professional team at profine’s plant in Pirmasens, Germany. This is the longest commitment of a partner as main and shirt sponsor in the history of professional football at Mainz 05. Dr. Peter Mrosik, owner and CEO of profine Group: “We have made important strategic decisions in recent years. We have decided to actively build up the KÖMMERLING name, position it as a premium window brand and invest in end customer communication to support our partners in the market. Our partnership with Mainz 05 is a very important element and is very successful”. www.kommerling.co.uk WINDOW NEWS APRIL 2019 73

Epwin Window Systems’ Gerald Allen Joins GM Fundraising’s

From Russia With Hope Team Challenge Epwin Window Systems’ Marketing Manager Gerald Allen will be one of a team of 18 men taking part in the From Russia With Hope challenge organised by GM Fundraising. The challenge will raise funds for Hope House Children’s Hospices and will involve cycling 2,730 miles through 10 countries in 12 days in June 2019. Gerald says: “I was motivated to take part because of the Hope House cause. It’s very humbling and emotional to see the work they do, and taking 12 days out, seeing countries I’ve never visited is just a bonus.” The team will be covering over 280 miles each day as they cycle from St Petersburg, Russia, through Finland, into the Arctic Circle, through Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, England and Wales, before returning into England and their final destination of Hope House in Oswestry. While Gerald is a keen runner and

regularly runs 30 miles in a weekend, cycling is a relatively new sport for him. He says: “I’ve never done anything like this before and would say I was a casual cyclist at best. I’ve been getting out on the bike regularly in preparation, though, and getting some miles in.” Gerald concludes: “I’ve been fortunate enough to have been involved in a few GM Fundraising events before and they are always great fun. I’m looking forward to a life changing experience with a great group of committed people from within the industry to raise a lot of money for a cause that is very close to us at Epwin Window Systems.” GM Fundraising raises around £130,000 every year for Hope House Children’s Hospices in Oswestry and Conwy through a variety of events including sporting challenges and gala dinners.
