Turkey Bowl Helps Holiday Heroes

As many Willowsford residents know, making a difference can be a fun, low-key neighborhood experience! Over the Thanksgiving holiday, neighbors in the Grove and Greens hosted a Turkey Bowl with 36 kids participating and Holiday Heroes benefitting.

Resident Kate Smith, an organizer of the game, said, “We just opened it up for friends to invite their friends. Attendance doubled this year!” Participants ranged in age from 9-13 and were divided into four teams, with two games playing at once. Dads helped to coach, and referees were assigned to each team.

Every participant brought items to donate to the Holiday Heroes program. “We chose Holiday Heroes because the kids in need are directly in our school communities,” Kate said.

As a result, a variety of gifts were collected for a local 7-year-old boy and a 12-yearold girl, just from a friendly neighborhood game of flag football!
